First time to this Navy Exchange store!!! Has an abundant amount of Navy clothing items, souvenirs, hats, water bottles, keychains, lanyards, mouse pads, pens, etc. Good selection, prices are kind of pricey, which is expected. Sizes are limited for certain types of clothes, though. Like the Navy emblems, logos and signs. Good customer service representatives working there. Parking can be a hassle, though. And it can get pretty crowded in there as well. So, please be aware of that. read more

Came to see my little brother graduate boot camp and had to pick up the graduation tickets here. We had gotten there a bit early before ticket pickup time, so we decided to browse a bit. I was thoroughly impressed by the selection of items, from electronics to food to home to clothing. Prices were amazing on most things too! I ended up picking up snacks, a shirt for my mom, and some stomach pills for the flight home. My husband is a navy vet and had always told me the Navy Exchanges were pretty great. I'm glad this was my first one because I now agree. read more

I can't believe I'm back inside this exact Navy Exchange, I came to see my niece graduate from boot camp and it's crazy to see everything in a visitor perspective. This Naval Exchange is similar to a Walmart it has your clothing both military and civilian, home goods, make-up, ect.. I don't recall seeing food their but I really wasn't looking. I love this place.. it just brings back good memories.. I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't set foot in a place like this. read more

My father served in the Army and I spent countless weekends during my childhood at the Navy Exchange (we called it the PX) and the Commissary for groceries. And, wow, let me tell you. The quality and selection of goods at the Navy Exchange has changed significantly over the years and they've really upped their game. I definitely say that shopping at the base has its advantages. You can get great name brands - KitchenAid, Keurig, Nike, Clinique and Coach for a lot less than you will find at department stores. And, you don't have to pay sales tax which is always great. They also have various sales and deals if you have their credit card. I particularly enjoy Thanksgiving time - they have Coach for 25% off their sale prices. I've seen women fill up their carts with Coach goodies. The only downside is that the store is kind of small and the areas for clothing are kind of tight and everything is packed in there. And, the service is OK, but not the best. Then again, I personally am there for the deals anyway. Unfortunately, I'm past the age where I can shop there, but my mother always shops there and can get me what I need so overall, it's worth it. Oh, they also have a separate store for furniture and even a gas station where you can save a bit too so that's nice. read more

Super good store we were greeted at the door a group of us were not sure where to go to pick up our tickets but a man there rounded us up and asked who was here for tickets so we all gathered he explained the whole process and we got in line, very good stuff in this store! read more

It's good to have brand-name clothes, but it will be good to have affordable clothes as well. The BX used to be a place to go for an expensive products that were a good quality. Now, it's cheaper to go to the outlet mall. read more

Not the largest Exchange I've been to, but then, Great Lakes isn't the biggest, most extensive base, either, and all things in proportion. Great Lakes has two NEX locations. One is inside the gates of the base itself, and serves predominantly students just out of boot camp and attending A-school (technical training) who largely don't have vehicle privileges to get off base to shop for sundries. It features a uniform shop and a small food court-ish cluster of fast food kiosks in addition to the standard "one-stop shopping" stuff. Those who stay on base and instruct there use it. The other location, Burkey Mall, is located off the base, near Green Bay Road, and is more commonly used by spouses/families, retired personnel, those living in family housing who have Commissary and Exchange privileges, but don't have any need to access the base. NEX also runs two gas stations, which allow for a bit of savings, but Illinois/Chicago area gas prices are high, anyway, so while it's cheaper than surrounding gas stations, it's still probably pretty high, depending on where your last duty station was. Each is a little different, suiting their target demographic correspondingly differently. The one on base has more of a convenience/prepared foods section, since the Commissary is at Burkey Mall. The one at Burkey Mall has more by way of housewares/home goods, since it serves people living in housing, versus people just there for short-term training, staying temporarily in barracks or efficiencies. There are also more clothes, gift items, luxury items, etc., accordingly. It's a nice store, reasonably well-stocked, and they run good deals. Although the days of places like the Exchange and Commissary representing massive discounts are gone, they are still tax-free, and you still will typically spend less than at comparable big box stores, drugstores, department stores, etc. for name brand goods. The catch is that you can sometimes do better going the house brand/generic route at your standard big box stores...Exchange and Commissary deal mainly in name brand merchandise, so Target's Up and Up brand, etc. on some things may be the better deal. Still, if what you want/need is name brand stuff, you're probably going to find an alright deal, and it's ultra-convenient...people living in the housing at Great Lakes have to drive a bit to get to do most shopping, otherwise. read more

Everything that the shopping centers in the area can be found at the NEX. The NEX is a government store for service members. It does not tax and everything is usually discounted 20% on top of the no tax. Food restaurants such as Taco Bell and Subway can be found inside the NEX. Alterations, Travel, and a Barber shop are also available for shoppers. Pump gas and you can save a few bucks. read more

It seems that this NEX has been forsaken. All exchanges I've been to all over the world have been remodeled and upgraded but not this one. The selection is minimum, they didn't even have ironing boards! I guess I have been spoiled coming from Jax and Hampton Roads where the NEX's are big and beautiful. read more

I love going here because they have damn near everything even if you just need something for a quick fix. One night I ran out of formula for my daughter and girl that was working that shift was nice enough to let me in and get a can of formula for my baby until I get to the commissary the next morning because I didn't want to go to Walmart. read more
