Another visit to this NEX store! Picked up our Navy Boot Camp Graduation Tickets for 11/14/24. Didn't wait long to get them as there were no people in line, so we were in and out of that section quickly. We then browsed around the consumer section to see if they had anything new compared to the last 2 visits.... Didn't really see much inventory that stood out. Same ol' hoodies, Sweatshirts, t-shirts, keychains and water bottles. Saw some Navy UA Hats, but were the fitted sizes. Prices were still a little high. This time around, purchased 2 water bottles and a leather wallet. First two times, we bought a whole bunch of souvenirs, so we mainly looked around this time for anything new in store. read more

The Navy version of the PX for us Army Vets. You can purchase all of your navy paraphernalia to support your graduate from tshirts to hoodies. They also sell other goods such as snacks, water, decorations, jewelry and even alcohol but make sure you have a military ID. That is the only way you can purchase alcohol. read more

This NEX is a great environment and very busy during recruit graduation week but after that this place is a ghost town. It's just a basic place during the week. It has a great deal on liquor. So try it out if your in the area. read more

Meh is sorta right. The prices are rather outrageous in my opinion and it reminds me of a JC Penny's. The selection of not clothes is pathetic, I guess I was spoiled by the BX I used to shop at. The styles of clothes aren't my thing and I find they're either Walmart quality or overpriced like at the mall. (why not go to Gurnee Mills at that point?) The cashiers are kinda rude and the people stocking shelves aren't much better. I got more help out of an elderly veteran who was shopping there than I did an employee. (he was a nice fellow too!) Anyways there isn't much else to be said about this place. I'd recommend the NEX on base over this one, but even that one has it's downfalls. read more

OK, they had put a whole new line of clothing and merchandise in Burkey Mall. I don't know if they're trying to make the prices lower for the young military families, or they just took a "shot on the dark," but the selection and display is ridiculous. It Kinda reminds me of Goodwill and Dollar Tree meets T.J. Maxx and Marshall's. Not only are the prices cheaper, but so is the clothing in itself. They now carry a line of clothing and accessories called "Below Deck".....way below! I hope they don't cut back on the Commissary's section of "name brand" foods! Their selection of meats is second to none! I'll drive 40 minutes just to shop there for groceries. Like the old adage says..."If it's not broke...don't fix it!" read more

This was always kind of a crappy exchange. Clothes were ugly. They had a liquor store right there where you could buy cigarettes. The store is very popular among for the new recruits. They can put what they want on store credit. Whats weird is that they had many gift items there that were way out of price range for a new recruit. Like fancy figurines for $200. Jewelry was majorly over priced and substandard quality and style. The Burkey Mall is the biggest of the Exchange stores on this base. Pharmacy is here also. Located right next to Commissary. We were here to pick up graduation tickets, and stayed and shopped for a bit. There was a great selection of most items, except in the shoe department (but I do have very large feet). The manager on duty was very knowledgable, gracious, and helpful. read more

I've been coming to the NEX since I was a child. Now, as a professional student studying on the west coast, returning to shop here has been a tradition I've made sure to fulfill whenever I visit family. Much to my surprise and dismay, I walk into the mall this holiday season to see the entire layout of the clothing section changed to look like a discount store (much like Gary G. mentioned in his review. I couldn't help but throw my hands up when I saw he wrote exactly what I came here to say in my review.) I'm not sure if this is the doing of a new management team or what, but this concept is so disappointing. The wide open concept is disorienting with racks of clothes smashed together. There are no longer any displays, which really make a shopping experience better, I've come to find out. The shoe department was never super lucrative but you could find a few QUALITY items here and there. Now it is completely lacking. I had to tell myself that people who have low/no expectations don't find themselves disappointed... but I realize that I should expect at least decent quality merchandise, regardless of whether the mall decides to FOLLOW the trend of other low quality discount stores. Now, early 2000s Gap and Old Navy style clothing make up about 60% of what is hanging on the racks. I don't shop at Old Navy for a reason... please go back to what worked, NEX. read more

Been coming here since we moved to west subs of Chicago.. we always make a trip at least once a week. But this past 2 weeks I observed something at the check out that you guys probably didn't observe. I bought few things and when the cashier scanned my items the price didn't match of how much was the price. Let say I bought a lipstick on the shelf it says 6.09 but it was scanned as 8+. Then the Halloween candy it was on sale for 8.99 still scanned as 12.99. The cashier was like come show me.. so I have to walk with the cashier so show him Im not lying... And then just yesterday I bought a Clinique on the box it says 42.50 but it was scanned as 44.50... so we've been coming here and shop not sure how many time we got ripped off. so now I have to check look at the screen while your cashier is scanning your item... make sure every item has the right prices. We came here to shop and to save money but then at the end you'll get rip off is not cool at all. The 3 stars are for the employees they are always nice people. read more

Great NEX for the area, but doesn't offer everything. It's more targeted towards the retired families, but still has enough. The staff is friendly and they are helpful. The place is usually very clean. read more

I cannot understand the negative reviews. First of all, the employees here are very nice and helpful. I have never encountered employees that were so nice as this store. Also, the prices are amazing and they have the best products. I wish I lived closer. I would be at this great store more often. Thank you for providing such a great store for us. read more

This review is based on the navy exchange jewelry selection. I placed two special orders on two different occasions and both of the orders were not completed to satisfaction. For instance, the first ordered that I placed with the NEX jewelry was with the pandora charm. I ordered a few charms for my daughter for Christmas back in November 2016 the lady stated that the charms will arrive along with a Disney bracelet that I had ordered. A month later I receive a phone call stating that the jewelry had arrived. I go to pick up the jewelry and it took them an hour to find the jewelry. Finally they find one charm out of 3 and no bracelet. They inform me that the jewelry that was placed for special order they could not place it because it was Disney pandora. When I originally placed the order there were no issues but now there is one, the jewelry is not in, and all I got was an I'm sorry. The second time the jewelry store has failed us, happened recently. My husband placed some earrings on layaway for a special occasion Valentine's Day back in December 2016 at the time the earring were not in so they had to do a special order on them and they would let him know once they arrived. The jewelry store never contacted him that they had arrived. My husband went to go check on them and they stated that the earrings had arrived but they were sold. He mentioned to them how could they do that when he had them on layaway they stated that they had to put them back in inventory for their records and forgot to put them on layaway therefore someone came and purchased them. Again all they said was I'm sorry nothing we can do about it. Twice this jewelry store has made a mistake and they have not owned up to their mistake. I have never had any issues with the Navy Exchange, in fact, I always praise how good they are and I'm not the one to write a negative review but they have let me down that I felt obligated to point out their incompetence. read more

This place is a little nicer since it's minor renovations. The selection of clothes is pretty weak compared to the student store/uniform shop that's on base. Sometimes I don't even know why I waste my time looking around the store for anything when I know it's not there. If you find what you're looking for, you're probably gonna get pretty good prices compared to retail prices, especially on outerwear, sunglasses, shoes, movies, basic home goods, fragrances, and handbags. When you get here, feel free to navigate the store completely to scope everything out. Unless you're buying shoes (where they're pretty helpful and nice), good luck on getting any kind of real customer service. Sometimes you have to hunt someone down just to get help finding something you might have seen in an advertisement. They'll almost NEVER ask you if you need help. Unless it's black friday, you can only expect ONE register to be open. It seems like every 5 minutes, you hear the announcement for "All available associates to the front line for customer checkout". Then you look around and see them scrambling to get out of having to go up and help get people out. And when they finally get up there, they open up one or two registers for a few minutes to get rid of the line and then close up. It seems like nobody really wants to be working there, but they're happy to have the job and a paycheck. (Maybe they deal with really horrible customers all the time, but if you work in retail, who doesn't?) I don't think that's an excuse to be that bitter. I'm not talking about everyone there, because there are some SUPER nice ladies who love helping those who serve. It's just a few that are always there and always have the same attitude (ESPECIALLY that tall scrawny teenage looking kid that works in electronics and is always on facebook or checking his email on the Mac computer) Yeah, you'll know who you are when you read this. I've always hated the way the Exchange is set up here in Great Lakes. I wonder how long before it's torn down and completely redone like they did in San Diego. (Oh how I miss San Diego). This is probably one of the SMALLEST exchange/commissaries (stateside) and also the most ghetto. Luckily, Wal-Mart is just up the road. read more
