DUCTZ of Greater Atlanta - DUCTZ leaving the property

    DUCTZ of Greater Atlanta

    (10 reviews)

I'd like to give a few shout-outs here:…read more 1. To Chadwick F, owner of Innovative Mechanical (https://www.yelp.com/biz/innovative-mechanical-atlanta-2), for quickly responding to my duct cleaning inquiry on Yelp and referring me to DUCTZ of Greater Atlanta. I searched Yelp for a good duct cleaner and Innovative Mechanical popped up as one of the top results. I used Yelp's "Request a Quote" feature and sent inquiries to three different companies including Innovative Mechnical. Chadwick of Innovative Mechnical was the first to respond and said, "Unfortunately, we don't clean air ducts. We recommend Ductz." 2. To Daniel of DUCTZ for calling me quickly. After filling out the short form on DUCTZ's website, Daniel called me the same day and we scheduled a time for him to come out. Daniel was a good communicator and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. He was honest, straightforward, and professional and I really appreciate that. 3. To Rhonda of DUCTZ for emailing me a quote quickly. Long story short, I was quoted $687.50 for this particular property: one HVAC unit (to clean the coil and blower), up to 10 vents (remove, wash, and reinstall each vent), and all associated ductwork cleaned with a compressed air sweep. Additional vents and bathroom exhausts were quoted at $25 each. Dryer vents $75. There was more, but this should give you a good idea. I've uploaded with this review some helpful info Rhonda sent me with my quote. It gives you additional background on DUCTZ and their vent-cleaning process. This is an independently owned and operated company with NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaners Association) trained and certified technicians. As for my experience with DUCTZ, my tenants reported a "rotten egg" smell coming from the ventilation system. I contacted DUCTZ because I wanted their professional and expert opinion. Daniel met with my tenants and inspected the property's vents and HVAC return / air handler. He suggested a quick, easy, and cheap solution which was to use a foam spray (the foam spray cost only $6.26 on Amazon) to seal an exposed pipe going underground, beneath the air handler, to see if that would stop the smell. The theory behind this was the HVAC system was sucking up bad odors from the pipe and into the ventilation system. There was no charge for Daniel's visit. His visit was for a free estimate. I appreciated his advice and again, not trying to sell me something I didn't need. My tenants also told me that Daniel said that HVAC systems can occasionally get what is known as "dirty sock syndrome" and that it can be difficult and expensive to diagnose. I'm pretty sure I've smelled that in my own old car's ventilation system at one point and it went away on its own (or perhaps when I had the heater core replaced, but I digress). In the end, my experience with DUCTZ of Greater Atlanta was A+ and I recommend these guys if you need a quick, honest opinion about your ductwork/ventilation. This seems like a dependable business.

Our experience with Penco Restoration was a nightmare…read more We were displaced from our home for nearly a year after a water loss, only to deal with repeated construction issues, inconsistent communication, questionable workmanship, and ongoing concerns about the quality of repairs being performed. We repeatedly raised concerns about subfloor materials, missing structural repairs, uneven floors, gaps, and visible workmanship defects -- many in writing. Instead of resolving issues properly the first time, floors had to be pulled back up after installation for attempted corrections. We were told work matched scope and billing, yet what was physically installed often did not align with what we were being told. As a pregnant person with young children, this process was emotionally, physically and financially exhausting. Multiple moves, constant project delays, lack of accountability, and feeling like we had to monitor every step of the work ourselves created an overwhelming amount of stress. Homeowners should document EVERYTHING, independently verify materials/workmanship, and never assume the scope being billed is the work actually being performed. Based on our experience, I would not trust this company with another restoration project If I could leave 0 stars, I absolutely would. I worked directly with Jeff Halus who assured me I'd see that 3/4" t&g subfloor I never did see. After more than 50 email correspondence I was eventually passed off to Sean Liverman and then again to Andrew Howard, all as helpful as the last. After nearly a year of displacement, it is now taking an entirely different contractor to come in and complete the ORIGINAL scope of work that should have been done correctly from the beginning. Penco decided on their own to deviate from the approved scope and install a double-layered subfloor system using materials of their choosing. They installed our brand-new flooring, later ripped it back up, poured self-leveler throughout the home, and then reinstalled the flooring. As if that wasn't enough, Andrew Howard later suggested pulling the floors up AGAIN to add a THIRD layer of subfloor and install the flooring for a THIRD time in an attempt to solve a problem we didn't have prior- floating door jams. Thank you for nothing Penco. That's the level of workmanship and decision-making we experienced with Penco Restoration. This company cost our family nearly a year of stability, repeated displacement, constant stress, and extensive additional corrective work that should never have been necessary in the first place. I would never recommend them to anyone.
