Just received a call from Jason to discuss a potential quote. He flatly declined and told me to go to the other company that ended up installing our shingle roof a couple years ago, then hung up. Other company that did install our roof retired so no longer available. Nonetheless were impressed by Penfolds (at the time), who were the runner up. Rude and disappointed by Jason's lack of professionalism. I had Penfolds and two other companies quote on replacing and repairing my roof. I was already aware that there were some structural issues that would require some carpentry work. The quote from Penfolds was on the higher side of the average, but we went with them because the quote was detailed and they were realistic about the unknowns (especially the carpentry work, since most of the issues were covered up and couldn't be assessed until the roof came off). The carpentry team was very thorough, communicative, and ended up getting the work done for far less than they originally told me it would cost. The roofing team was also excellent - polite and tidy, with good attention to detail. Everything was done on or ahead of schedule, and ended up being completed for *less* than the quoted price. Recently I had the entire roof replaced for over $50k (commercial flat roof). Unfortunately after the work was completed I still have standing water at almost 2 inches right at the spot where it was leaking into the top floor. The comment back from my project lead (HR) is that I should have paid for the $7k slope package. At no point while the old roof was removed was I kept up to date nor was I notified that a small part of the roof would not drain properly. I find the large standing pool of water. And all that (HR) said is well we offered a slope package that you declined. Is it my fault or is it Penfolds? Penfolds Roofing and Solar charges higher price than others, yet the service they provide do not meet up to the expectation. Ground level of our home is approx. 1500 sq. ft. and this company charged $27,195.00. We chose "Cedartwin Classic Laminated Roof System" for the project and signed a contract with their ­­Sales Consultant - Hamish. We knew we paid premium to use Penfolds and expected their services and materials used would better than other companies in the industry. To our surprise, they subcontracted to third parties. We were told that all projects would be done by professionals of their company. Therefore, while they were disposing the old asphalt shingle, the falling debris left at least 20 stains in various sizes on the exterior walls. We asked the roofers to clean up the larger stains right away, they tried to scrub them with brushes and cleaners. Yet at the end the stains remained, and they never even put in any effort to clean them up since then. Once the whole project had been completed, we found the roof flashing were poorly done, screws were drilled in from various angles and we are not sure if this bad job will cause any water damages or further issues down the road. Additionally, a piece of the concrete slap on my front drive way was damaged by their subcontractor-junk bin disposal company. We informed all the damages listed above to the Hamish - Sales Rep and Project Manager - Jeff. We waited for more than 2 months since all these incidents accrued and Penfolds did not make any effort to clean the stains on the walls and say anything about the concrete slap on the drive way. For the poorly installed roof flashing, the project manager agreed to get Penfold's worker to fix/replace the some of the flashing by "bending the flashing in a different angle" to leave less gap in between the flashing and the fascia board. However, they sent a worker in a very rainy day on Oct 31, my wife asked Micheal, the worker if the wet weather will make any difference for the work, he said, yes, if we can wait the work to be done in the dry day is better than the raining day like this, as the fascia board won't get wet during the installation, plus it's not safe to have him on the roof in the rain day. Then my wife decided to book another appointment with Penfolds. Right after the worker left our house, the project manager Jeff called my wife and yelled at her for sending his guy back... and cut her line after the yelling! I reported this incident to WCB. Starting from Nov 7, 2018, the sales agent - Hamish keep sending emails to ask us to pay the last installment as soon as possible via email: " you want Michael our flashing installer to go back (with 2 days notice as requested), we require another payment of $9,000 first. We have long completed your roof except for the few pieces of flashing you are not satisfied with. But this roof has been done for 2 1/2 months, so we're not going back until we get 90% payment." He only mentioned once payment has been received, then they will arrange someone to fix the flashing, not a word for our other issues caused by them. I think to myself "Would Penfolds Roofing and Solar still going to do anything after we have paid the last installment?" Recently, we had a professional painting company assessment done for fixing the stains on the exterior walls. They told us that if all the stains that cannot be washed off, the whole walls need to be repainted and it will cost about $7000. In other word, we need to pay extra money to fix mistakes that Penfolds made? These actions proved that they do not care about their clients' properties, all they care is money. We definitely lost trust in this company and right now we are moving forward with legal actions. read more

These are words that I thought I would never think of when it came to this industry, and yet here I am writing them due to the wonderful experience, that I had with the Penfolds family. I had become weary of trying to find a contractor that could assist me with my home roofing project. I had interviewed a number of roofing contractors prior to contacting Penfolds, and had become very uncomfortable with the vagueness of their approach, over pricing and lack of knowledge towards my general questions. With Penfolds, they had redefined what every homeowner wants to experience with a roofing company . This company exhibited true value in the quality and competitive pricing in the variety of their product line. Not only is their workmanship and products guaranteed with a transferable warranty if my home was sold, but they stand behind each home project with integrity. The company is well organized and had displayed professionalism at every level of the process I went through from initial interview, product review, quote, contract review, signing, pre inspection, starting my roof job, daily clean up, daily field supervisor inspection, final job review and closure. I had initially contacted their company online and was contacted within a few days by Chris McCready, Technical Advisor. He met with me promptly at my home, went over all of my roofing concerns and took the time to photograph and to document my home in detail. Chris was able to study my project and to recommend product options that suited my needs, for the specific area of the city that I live in of Coquitlam. What I found absolutely stunning about this company is the depth of what they can do for problem areas of my roof. I had explained to Chris that I had an overhang that was too short in the face of my home, and 3 other areas that had water overflow problems that damaged my sub fascia and face fascia. Chris has an intimate knowledge of roofing designs and explained to me their ability to correct problem areas of my roof as they have a professional carpenter team that works on site. No other company that I had interviewed had this kind of depth and was willing to address any of these roofing issues or to offer me options. Others were willing to let the problems continue as long as they got the roofing contract. The workmanship that I personally observed the carpenter(Thomas Klattenhoff), perform on my house was beyond breathtaking and best of all affordable. There are no words to describe the value, safety and peace of mind that has now been awarded to me. It took over a week to complete my roof and I had the pleasure of meeting and observing my team of 3 roofers go through their daily ritual of clearing the old tiles off my roof, preparing the roof and installing my Twin Ultra Rubberized Asphalt shingles. The crew was respectful to me, my home and showed great care in completing my roof project. Very unimpressed and would not recommend. I would speak to the quality of the roof but they still haven't even started the project even though I initially contacting them to do the job a year ago. (I will update the review when the work actually gets done.) It took a lot of persistence on my behalf to actually get a quote and confirm the contract. Their quote appeared professional which is why I chose them. They told me they couldn't give an exact time on the job being completed but implied it would be done this summer. I have never been contacted by them since I signed the contract and every time I inquire, the time estimate is pushed back by months. Currently they estimate to start my roofing project in late October/early November (but I'm not holding me breath), so my house will be opened and exposed during some of our rainiest weather seasons. They said they will tarp my roof if I get a leak in the mean time but the whole point in getting the roof re-done is to precent any house damage in the first place. read more

Martin I had Penfolds come to our home for an estimate for a complete re-roof including re-sheathing. When John arrived I went over all the details and concerns. He went onto the roof, measured everything and said he would get back to me in a few days with a quote. A couple of weeks went by. I called him a number of times leaving messages with no reply. I finally called the office and spoke with the receptionist. She relayed to me that John would not be providing an estimate. There was no explanation given. I used Penfolds for my roofing needs when I built my last house 10 years ago. I was very pleased with the quality of their torched on roof membrane work. When I did a major renovation work to my new house recently, I again retained their roofing service. This time was for metal roof. Again, I was happy with their work. In both instances, their staffs were punctual, courteous and professional in the execution of the work. Very good overall. Started off with a racoon hole in the roof which they fixed the next day. This led on to a quote for a full reroof and after a lot of driving around and humming and hawing we finally settled on the ecoroof rubber slate. It's more expensive but it looks great. Penfolds sold me their Cedar Twin Plus roofing shingles. The salesman promoted it with a 30 years warranty and touting an insurance policy to back up their claim. Their Cedar Twin shingles is actually manufactured by IKO and only has a warranty of (10 years) ten years. Penfolds re-wrappes the IKO shingles with their Cedar Twin label and sells them as their own claiming a warranty period of 30 years. My warranty certificate is a 10 years one. This is a violation of the "Consumers Protection Law of BC, a deceptive act or practice". read more

Penfolds created a DISASTER in our Strata building by failing to adequately tarp the roof while they were replacing it. And, they had managed to block all our roof drains while removing the gravel. End result, rained on all 5 floors (including the basement/garage) of our building. 47 out of 75 units damaged 20 of those 47 uninhabitable Not only did they cost everyone an assessment to pay for the roof, each unit owner is out of pocket for their insurance deductible (if they had insurance), people are out for several months for some of the repairs, and in and out of the building several times for others. read more

Not worth the money... As a previous poster mentioned - they subcontract out much if not all of their work. The sales guy is very quick to lock you up, and comes with a very polished proposal. The finished product that we received was an old mopped tar system that most roofers wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. The flashings were poorly done, and the membrane did not cover the parapet causing leaks within three years. We paid a premium to use Penfolds - thinking that it would help with resale value, but it has cost us far more in building envelope repairs. read more

Good Company and I'm sure they do good work and stand behind there Warranty's but they subcontract most of there work out. This usually means they cost more and when I got a competitive quote they were over by more than 2 thousand for the same tile. The roofer I did use did great work and 2 years later I'm very happy I keep the 2 thousand in my jeans! read more

Sean and his team are outstanding. I had my roof done by Penfolds about three years ago. The work was great. The team that did the work were conscientious and respectful. About a month ago, we had a minor issue with a soffit - which I called Sean to look into. I am not sure this was even an issue with Penfolds but Sean was willing to send someone out to have a look. They fixed the problem with no question. What amazed me was how quickly they looked into it and resolved it. This is after three years. I highly recommend Penfolds. read more

Penfolds installation of a Ziplok metal roof resulted in: Unsatisfactory installation and service (leaks, rust, improper use of flashing and caulking) ; Misleading advertising; Non-delivery of negotiated merchandise (snow stops, vent savers, etc as per our "BBB" negotiation); Unfulfilled written contract (did not design specifically for our home - resulting in $28000 damages to home) Penfolds continues to deceive customers. Twice now people from this company come into my back yard to hang a flyer on my door. I live in a 3 story Coop and my front door opens to a hallway, my patio door has no handle on it... So both times, they have just hung this door-handle flyer on something else on my property... WTF. I don't even have a roof, I'm on the ground floor! I have no clue if their roofing practices are up to code, but your advertising department has deplorable practices. read more

I have had to call them back 3 times in 3 years because of their shoddy workmanship. They even had the gall to charge me for the last visit and this after spending $16,000 for a roof. I had my last roof for over 20 years from another company and not once did I have to call them back. I have spent $3000 to have my chimney repaired because they didn't install the flashing correctly. I had a roof installed by Penfolds about 9 years ago, a small issue came up so I contacted them to see if we could resolve the problem. I dealt with Silvio who is the service manager, he was very understanding and between the two of us came up with a resolution that worked for both of us. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly Silvio had the issue handled and dealt with I can't say enough about Penfolds, price is important but after service is far more "valuable ". I have used Penfolds Roofing for 2 homes, one was a torch on roof and the other was a job to remove the cedar shingle roof and replace it with asphalt shingles. I was a very big job. They aren't the cheapest, but they are the best. We had a small problem after the job was completed and when I called up, they came the same day and looked after it to my complete satisfaction. I would never use anybody else. A cheap job gets you cheap results and if you have a problem it could cost many thousands of dollars to fix. I would recommend Penfolds Roofing to anyone that wants a proper, professional, no worry job done. read more

They did a good job replacing my roof. Seemed to follow professional standards for things like adding more vents and extra strapping where needed. Worked quickly and efficiently, protected property, cleaned up afterwards. No significant complaints. Their price quote was a little higher initially, but still competitive, and negotiable. They probably spend more money than others on advertising, but at least you know they care about their reputation. Can't really comment on their warranty service - hope I never have to use it! read more

I decided to go with Penfold because I thought they would be more reliable then other companies. So far I've been disappointed because they keep moving back there start date. I was told I would get my pre felt done by Friday or Monday at the very latest. Then it was Tuesday, then it was pushed to the following Friday. Now I received a call saying it will be next Monday. Every time they delay, I have to call all my subtrades and delay them as well and it cost me money. So frustrating so far. I'm sure I'll get a good product in the end but so far I'm not impressed and wouldn't pick them again. read more

The bill for an inspection and quick repair of our skylight (which Penfolds had originally installed) was over $300 and took less than an hour. The service was fine but very much overpriced. If I have another leak, I will seek out another company. read more
