Peninsula Park has a very nice rose garden. It's also a full park with picnic tables in various place, grass to play in or sit on. Today, it was pretty busy. Some summer programming takes place at the park as well. There is also an outside, in ground pool near the Albina st. side of the park. Fabulous place for a stroll, lunch, or just to enjoy the nice weather.
Peninsula Park Rose Garden is stunning! I had the pleasure of going there, while on a trip to Portland and will definitely be coming back next time I'm in Portand. The roses, not only looked beautiful, but they smelled fantastic too. There were several places, in the grass walking paths, where people could sit and relax. Several people were having picnics within the space or reading books. It felt like such a magical place.
We were flying out of PDX on a Tuesday afternoon and were looking for a park relatively close to the airport where we could take our dog. We headed over to Peninsula Park and boy did we get lucky. This park was stunning! Peninsula Park has original historic features like old-timey light fixtures, a sunken rose garden and fountain that are both over 100 years old and a gazebo overlooking them. The stone brickwork around the rose garden is breathtaking. They just don't build things like this anymore and it's really a shame. We got to the park at around 10am on a weekday and found free street parking near the basketball court and community building. What a lovely park! In the grassy area near the baseball field young children were warming up for their little tykes soccer class, people from the neighborhood were out for morning jogs and walks and there were plenty of people out with their dogs walking, playing frisbee or just sitting on benches under the shade of the beautiful large trees enjoying the cool weather. While walking around the park we did spot a banner advertising an upcoming concert in the park and another sign that was inviting people to join the gardening club. There is a city bus that stops right near the park.
(From September, 2024) Had the pleasure of visiting this park during my Portland visit in Aug-Sept. My sister took me here to play with my nephew. While I was keeping my eye on him, I took the time to admire the many rose gardens at this venue. There's a variety of colors for each rose bush in this garden with explanations on each one. With so many rows, you will lose track of time venturing through all of the beautiful floral patterns here. They keep the park clean and there is plenty of festivity here with the fountain sprinkling and an area for photos and picnics. I hope Portland citizens keep maintaining this wonderful destination. Very glad I got to explore here!
Go here in June to see all the flowers blooming. I didn't have to pay for parking on the street next to the park.
Portlands original rose garden! Peninsula park is awesome. Two playgrounds, an old and beautiful community center. Lots of classes for kids and adults, summer camps, a baseball field, tennis courts and basketball courts, there's even a horse shoe pit. You can rent the large covered picnic area for large events or a room in the community center for parties. The rose garden is maintained by the help of volunteers and is absolutely stunning. There's also a splash pad and outdoor pool in the summer and a beautiful fountain in the rose garden that runs in warmer months. The pool has the best water aerobics classes! Great place to jog or walk your dog (on leash).
Discovered this park on the way home from dinner in Portland. I'm not sure how I ever missed it. It's like a beautiful piece of Paris was brought to the US. The rose garden is expansive and beautiful and all the roses are in bloom during summer. The fountain and people strolling down the walkways helps give a lovely vibe. I can only imagine what this place feels like during the daytime
Photogenic Peninsula. As a local you want to reinvigorate your love for the city but do not want to sit in the trafficked tourist line for Washington park. Stop and smell the roses here. A surprisingly well sized layout of roses and various bushes & trees. The overall park itself is a haven for families, dog walkers and picnics. Well maintained all seasons. The easy access to the park is nice exhale moment or spend hours resting the soul.
This place is a continual favorite for my family. We don't live inside Portland anymore, however we make the drive to this park at least 4 times a summer. It's so peaceful and relaxing and beautiful. We live to sit under one of the four shade tree areas surrounded by flowers, feeling like we've stepped out of a book. This time the fountain was under repair, which is a bummer, it's beautiful.

We'd never heard of the park, but stumbled into it while out and about. Fabulous surprise! Gorgeous big trees and the most amazing rose garden. We were so impressed with the garden area, colors and more colors complimented by adorable ornamental trees and a lovely fountain. Peninsula has a little something for everyone: green space, pavilions, courts, the gardens, walking paths, and a fabulous shaded playground. Lots of people on their bikes and even more wandering with their pups. Unfortunately the perimeter streets had a decent amount of litter, but outside of the one abandoned diaper we passed, the park's interior was quite clean. Definitely a must-see for flower lovers, and overall a very nice park.
I went to visit my brother a week ago, and after we had a delicious brunch, we decided to take a walk at Peninsula Park. It was beautiful and relaxing, and there were a lot of things to see. I really encourage you to check it out if you are ever visiting Portland. Unfortunately, when we went, the roses were not in bloom. We went during the weekend. Therefore, there were a lot of people, but it was not crowded. I can't wait to visit the park to see and smell the roses when they are blooming. .
I was in Portland volunteering for a LPGA tournament when I decided to go visit some of the parks in the area on my day off. I started out with Peninsula Park which was a park not too far from where I was staying at the time. It's a park about a block square and has a large collection of various rose plants and a fountain in the center. There also was a gazebo structure on one side of the park. There was also a lot of tall trees surrounding the park. It is definitely a neighbourhood gem and people around the neighbourhood can be found wandering through it. The sweet smell of the roses is quite prevalent and I did enjoy myself wandering through it.

I was looking for a nearby park to my Airbnb to take my pup to and came upon this gem. This park is truly BEAUTIFUL. The roses are a sight to see. Pictures don't do them justice. I liked that there was a path to walk on as well so my pup can get his steps in and sniffs out. There were signs around the park talking about its history which was really cool. I also loved that all the roses were labeled by name. They have beautiful names. It is located in a residential area and there was a lot of children during the time I was there in some type of program having a blast. I'd definitely come back again and I loved that it was pup friendly as I know not all parks are. read more
I can't believe I hadn't been to this park till now! Portland is famously known as the city of roses, and most folks head up to the International Rose Garden, but Peninsula Parks Rose Garden actually came first. This park was acquired by the city in 1909 and built out in 1913. It wasn't until 1917 that most of the rose activities were moved to Washington Park. Peninsula Park still has a gorgeous and large rose garden, surrounding a beautiful ornamental fountain. It has brick walkways, an ornate music pavilion/gazebo, and old-school Portland style street lamps. Besides the roses, the park also has a large open soccer field, playgrounds, splash pad, courts, plenty of tall trees, a covered dining area, and a circuitous walking or jogging path. read more
There are over 50 varieties and 5000 plants, which bloom from May to October. Even without the roses, Peninsula Park built in 1912 is a beautifully designed park. Peninsula Park in NE Portland reminds me of a park in Europe, from the fountain to the trees. What a treat to have a beautiful park like this in Portland. Street parking in the residential neighborhood. Weekends are busy here. read more

Beautiful park filled with gorgeous Roses! So much more accessible than the larger, more famous Rose Garden at Washington Park and with lots of street parking. If you are there during peak season, which is actually several times a year, it's magnificent! So many varieties and color combinations. And the fragrance! I love to wander around, take pics of the roses, then enjoy a picnic. There is a lot of open hard space where people rollerblade; lots of green space for walking and picnicking; a playground for the kids; a fountain and water creatures for soothing sounds and photo ops; tennis courts; and a recreation center. On the north side is Peninsula Park Pool where I often swim laps in the summer. Unfortunately all Portland public pools were closed for the 2020 season due to Covid. Hoping they can open in 2021! We have had a mild winter (2021) so the roses will probably be in all of their glory end of May, early June. Don't miss it! The park is free and since we are in Pandemic times, it's the perfect outdoor place to meet friends and enjoy fresh air, nature and roses! read more

One of my favorite parks in Portland. There's a beautiful rose garden with a grand water feature on one end of the park that always seem to draw me in. The park has something for each person, from relaxing to playing. There's always something going on at this park. Concerts, naked bike rides, markets and more. read more

Not the newest or nicest park, but it's pretty big and will keep your kid busy. There are three separate play structures. 2 sets of swings. 3 teeter totters. A huge loop around the park which loops through the rose garden which has its own fun little pathways to get lost on. The rose garden also has a little water fountain. Tennis courts. Water splash pad fir the summer. I haven't run into too many obnoxious people and this park is definitely in our repertoire. read more
Designed by Emanuel T. Mische (a champion of National Parks) in 1912 this is the only sunken rose garden in Oregon. It includes a fountain, public garden, rose garden, and wedding site - reservable. There were many signs posted throughout the park offering tours and classes. I absolutely love that this Park is such an active part of the community. We took thousands of pictures here and will definitely return. read more

The roses here were so beautiful; I can't believe how well it was maintained and not trampled or anything like people would do in many East coast cities, they were very respectful. I enjoyed reading on a bench overlooking the roses, saw lots of dogs on walks, and the playground looked like a great place for kids. read more
Absolutely beautiful park! The fountain is wonderfully relaxing to hear while strolling through the roses. A wedding was taking place during our visit. Luckily we came during peak rose season! Highly recommend to anyone visiting the Rose City! read more

I envy these small towns. I feel like they have these hidden destinations whether it's a waterfall, hiking trail, or a park with beauty like no other. We stumbled upon this park coming from a Starbucks nearby. I was trying to avoid a busy intersection when I turned into the street Peninsula Park stood. The first thing that drew my attention was the amazing rose bush. This beauty easily serves it community with the likes of birthday parties, weddings, or just a lazy day laying at the park enjoying the scenery. They have a gazebo, a circular water fountain, and of course a huge rose bush garden. And at the farthest part of the park, exist a playground area with swings and slides and tater tot. Brings you back to simplicity and leaves you with good thoughts. read more
We stumbled on this park one day after we picked up some takeout lunch. We're from San Diego so I didn't know anything about this park. Are used my Yelp app to find an Indian place for takeout and then I also looked searched for a part to go eat it at Peninsula Park is nearby the restaurant so we came here. This park is a total score it has a gorgeous rose garden with plenty of place for people to hang around and just enjoy it it has pavilions tennis courts playgrounds open space and a lot of people are taking advantage of it. There were live jazz musicians hanging out I love jazz and this just made my day. There were ladies rollerskating,kids on bikes, And friends and family is just enjoying the day together. Parking was no problem but the neighborhood was wonderful seemed very safe this is my favorite park in Portland read more
The City of Roses. Everyone knows about the International Rose Test Garden. One of Portland's top visitor attractions with thousands of rose bushes and its classic view of the Portland skyline. But Peninsula Park with over 9,000 rose plantings is no slouch. It is also the city's first rose garden and in some ways I prefer this quiet little park in the heart of North Portland to its more famous counterpart. We were there in early July and it felt like the end of the season, so I can only imagine how beautiful it would be in full, robust bloom. The Rose Garden is sunken so when you approach from above there is a lovely view of the fountain surrounded by manicured rows of roses and hedges. The joy of discovery in Portland is not just the grand places, but those smaller neighborhood spots that are less known and less traveled. Add this one to your picnic list. read more

Stopped here briefly before heading out of Portland. This park was close to our Air B&B. I didn't have time to go to the International Japanese Rose Garden when I was in Portland, but I did want to check out a rose garden before leaving. The rose garden in this park is absolutely beautiful. I really enjoyed walking around and smelling all of the gorgeous flowers and taking in their beauty. This park also has a picture worthy fountain and gazebo, as well as playgrounds and basketball courts. You folks in Portland are incredibly lucky to have parks this gorgeous in your neighborhoods! read more

This park is what I would describe as the little sister to the International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park. It's well maintained and the roses and garden are beautiful the fountains were not on yet when we visited, but I will be back to see them when they come on later this year. The park has everything to be entertained from the outdoor pool during summer or the year round indoor activities in the hall. You will not be bored here. My favorite spot is the benches overlooking the rose garden and if I lived closer I would be a regular found every morning the sunshine's reading a book and sipping tea. Come for the flowers stay for the games.. They have 2 baseball field, 4 horseshoe pits, a tennis court and large playground with splash pad. read more

This park is beautiful. Not only is the park beautiful it's a great spot if you have kids as the playground portion of this park has a lot going on. If you don't have kids, this is still a great place to walk the dog, have a picnic, swim at the municipal pool, join a kickball league or stroll through a seriously awesome rose garden. Walking through the rose garden when the flowers are in bloom makes you feel like you're in a private, European flower garden. It's no wonder that there's always wedding pictures or engagement pictures being taken each time I've been to the park. It's a great spot and is worth the visit read more
