I visited this location recently right after the lunch crowd was over. I ordered a small sandwich to go and the cashier tried charging my sales tax. I explained that since my order was to go there should not be any tax. He claimed they always do that. I indicated to him that it was illegal to charge me a tax that they were not paying to the state. I asked if they had a manager and he responded that "we have several". When I requested the manager on site she came over she said they always charge tax on pop but I indicated I hadn't even ordered a drink. She then yelled out to her employees to "don't charge tax on orders to go since some customers might bitch". Totally unprofessional and unnecessary. I cannot comment on the recent change of ownership at this Penn Station East Coast Subs restaurant. All I can say is that the service at each store can differ. I have never had an issue. Penn Station has a nice variety of hot and cold subs. Their bread is always fresh and delicious. I enjoy their Philly Cheese Steaks which are perfectly grilled and never charred or greasy. The cheese is gooey and flavorful. Really tasty sandwiches. Rate my Philly today a "B+." The fries can be a little hit or miss. They tend to be a bit soft and not crispy. I like them however and rate the fries a solid "B." Overall dining experience at Penn Station...a small, casual sub shop...about Three and a Half Stars....meaning above average for a fast food type place. But, the food is good and rates higher than that. Good food, no complaints. I worked here on and off two years. I hated being there. I loved working with my co workers but I was told I was starting off at fifty cents hire than I was actual making per hour. I have text messages still to prove this. We woke up to foul messages every morning about how awful our closing was. We all worked every night about 30-60 minutes off the clock every single night due to being afraid of the gm screaming at us about things. We could go above and beyond but it was never appreciated. I took time to actually make sure things were properly cleaned and swept and mopped floors correctly and it didn't matter it was still gone unnoticed or appreciated. I'm just glad to be gone there's so much more I can't even speak on in a review it's just an awful place to be. Reviews go uncared for anyway the gm lies so good that it don't matter and tells everyone that nothing will become of it anyway so just letting people know they can write til blue in the face. Nobody cares. nothing will be done and that's just reality. I wish everyone there the best and pray things get better for the employees and customers soon. Great pizza sub that I would eat again and again. The fries are fresh cut and perfectly salted, as always. My only negative is that the dining area itself is...well...cozy. We had three of us and our quarters were close. Plus, it relly bothered me to watch one of the staff riding and spinning on a ladder like it was a skateboard. In all fairness, I oversee safety at a very large corporation for a living, so I was never going to be OK with this particular employee's theatrics. And sandwich looked like the tray at the bottom of the grill that holds the stuff you scrape off. Stopped in for lunch today. This is another east coast chain we don't have in Texas. Much better sandwich shop than the other usual suspects. Had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich, fries, and lemonade. Lemonade is fresh squeezed and similar to Chick-Fil-A. Fries are fresh cut and the sandwich was delicious. A worker even walked through the dining hall and gave a way cookie samples (also delicious). I waited an hour and never even received my food. I had to cancel it and be refunded. I only ordered 2 ordinary cheesesteak sandwiches and a large fry. I understand that places get busy on a Friday night so I waited. I thought maybe they didn't have enough steak ready or maybe it was the fries, I don't know. So around 40 minutes into waiting I asked "if there was an ETA on my order." To which the girl whose name I didn't get rudely replied "I don't know" and then walked away like I was the biggest inconvenience to ever have happened to her. So then I sat for another 20 minutes, meanwhile other customers again are ordering and receiving their orders before me. So after I hit the 1 hour mark I politely asked "If I'm not able to get an ETA or let alone receive my $31 order, can I please cancel it and be refunded." Which they were able to do. If I would have known that it would take that long. I could have went to Kroger down the street buy skirt steak, banana peppers, mushrooms, provolone cheese, sub sandwich bread and potatoes. Literally prep and cook it all faster in the amount of time I waited. Quicker than a restaurant that specializes in sub sandwiches. All and all that's probably what I'll do from now on. I had to go home and cook anyways. I don't want to blame the staff, it could have been them or they are just severely understaffed/undertrained.
