By December 31, his assistant, Laura, wrote us to say there wasn't interest in our house. We immediately called another property manager who genuinely couldn't understand why the house hadn't been rented. She had a signed rental contract 8 days later. Read that last sentence again. This is why I'm writing this review. During the almost 6 month period we had the house with SCPR, I received a few emails from Laura: The prospective renter wanted $ off the rent, or had some other ask. We always compromised with the request, but nothing ever happened. The house was furnished when we signed the contract with Chris. At the time he said that it added a challenge, but that they would get it done. At some point Laura indicated that, because the house was furnished, they were having a hard time finding renters. When the house was still unrented in November, my wife and I went up, packed up the furnishings and asked them to take new photos. Then came a couple more of the same asks: Would we take $ off the rent, etc., etc.? Nothing happened with the home. Then the "nobody's interested in your property" email. I'll leave it at this: Our experience was that our house sat empty for almost 6 months, immediately followed by the next property manager raising the asking rent by $200/month (from the asking price that SCPR set) and it was rented in 8 days! Though all property management (and HOA!) business moves a little slower than I would like, that's just par for the course and not indicative of Steward Property. Do we have unhappy homeowners? I would not recommend this company for managing your rental property. They do a poor job screening…read moretenants and then pass the cost of tenant-caused damages back to the landlord. In my case, the security deposit was partially returned to the tenants even though damages they caused were either poorly repaired or, in some cases, not repaired at all despite being listed on the work order receipt. The company demonstrated an amateur understanding of their fiduciary responsibilities, even expecting me, as the landlord, to follow up with contractors to complete work that had already been paid for. Overall, the experience was frustrating and unprofessional.
