Foods pretty good depending on whos working. The manager there is the best he really cares about his customers and ensures top not h service. The blonde over night gal is something else though. Took forever for toast and hashbrowns. On top of the wait the encounter was extremely akward, the staring and just plain lack of customer service. There is literally nowhere in this town to eat. Luckily this is right by the hotel I was staying at. They even had online ordering. I got a really good bacon cheeseburger. The cheese was good and melty and the bacon was crispy af which I love. The veggies were fresh and crisp. I also got Chili cheese fries. The chili was a little watery and not that meaty. Then again chili in Nebraska was probably never gonna be that good. The fries were crispy and there was a load of good cheese. There is a reason there are no cars in the parking lot. We should have taken that as our clue to go somewhere else. Paid $25 for two people to eat breakfast. Our food was served to us raw. The egg whites were still clear and runny. We were only able to eat a few bites of toast. The hash browns were served warm but not cooked through. We left hungry and had to go somewhere else for breakfast. I am completely disgusted and WILL NOT go back to this establishment again. read more

We've been on a road trip for almost 2 weeks from California. Stopped here on our way from SD to Denver. Not many options for breakfast. There was ONE guy working. Taking orders, cooking, waiting on tables, etc. For it being short staffed it actually wasn't bad. The food was good, and we thought the price was right (about $50) considering our party of 4 is usually $80-$100 when eating out. The building itself could use some deep cleaning in the bathrooms and around the restaurant wall decor. The table/eating area was clean though (which is what really matters). read more

Penny's is a nice spot for breakfast. We were cruising through from Torrington to Scottsbluff on Saturday around 8am. It wasn't super busy and the staff was friendly. I had just a basic eggs and sausage breakfast w/toast and hash browns. I don't usually care for eggs that are scrambled on a flat top, but these were ok. Hubby had the chicken fried steak. It wasn't the best he ever had, but it also wasn't the worst. I think it's a fine place to stop for breakfast, but nothing really stands out as excellent. read more

Cute diner with a great location next to our Travelodge motel but the service was pretty awful. Only one individual running the show at 6am and we were the only customers, but still had to ask for silverware, napkins, coffee fixins' and everything came slow. The overall experience was horrible! The service was poor, we had someone that had just started two weeks prior and she looked like she literally rolled out of bed wearing her diner t-shirt. She was unkept and her t-shirt all dirty. We arrived at 8:30 am and looked to be the one of two parties there and it took forever to get our food! Once the food came, it was all cold and not good at all. The biscuits in my biscuits & gravy were so hard, I could have broken a tooth!! There was a waffle smeared on the floor and all the staff kept walking by it without cleaning it up. Even the soda didn't taste right. Travel Lodge should either close place this or make MAJOR changes since this operates under their name. What an embarrassment to a brand! Keep driving! read more

It's all shiny and clean inside. But, don't let the glitz fool you. This place has extremely poor service, and the food isn't that great. I arrived and sat at a table that had some coffee spilled on it. Instead of wiping that off, my waitress sat my water glass in it. I and another couple waited over an hour to get our orders. We were not offered a booster seat or high chair for my small son. 3. The portions were very small. Not worth $8 a plate. 5. We recently moved to the area and, given the unique appearance and business hours of Penny's, thought we would stop in here for dinner one night. It was just after 8 p.m. when we arrived, which is fairly late for this sleepy little corner of Nebraska; Penny's was likely the only establishment open from Morrill to Scottsbluff. I was immediately struck by the aging decor -- peeling paint and an overall dingy feel -- in stark contrast with the attractive exterior. Trying not to rush to judgment -- because who doesn't love a good dive? -- I reluctantly ordered a couple of a la carte items off of their rather meager menu. (Mind you, this was after ten minutes of waiting for our sever to finish socializing with his co-worker and take our order). Fast forward twenty minutes. We are still waiting for our food. The place isn't hopping even by Morrill standards, but the employees were so chatty with the couple of older gentlemen who came in that they can't seem to do their jobs with any great speed. A combination of boredom and eagerness to receive my order had me clocking the cook, which was a huge error in judgment. I watched in horror as he used his bare hands to dip my french toast in the egg batter -- all the while clinging to a dim hope that he practices good sanitation habits and will wash his hands afterward. Once the slices were sizzling on the grill, I watched as he wiped his egg-saturated fingers on the denim jeans -- the same jeans that were sagging halfway down his rear. The cook then took his filthy, eggy hands and collected a stack of dinner plates for our food. Yay cross-contamination! Needless to say, my intestines are experiencing relative discomfort in the wake of my dining experience at Penny's. I won't be returning. read more

My first time at a Penny's Diner. The staff was amazing! Had a cheese omelet bacon and hash browns. Husband had a cheeseburger, tater tots and a strawberry milkshake that went into 2 cups! We stopped at Penny's on the way to Denver after visiting South Dakota attractions (Mt. Rushmore, etc.) I ordered the fried chicken special offered Sunday evening. The chicken was an odd gray/tan color and managed to be both dry and soggy. After tasting the mashed potatoes, I asked our waitress if they were instant. She cheerfully replied that they were (and tasted it). The meal came with carrots that had been cooked so long they were easily reduced to puree with a gentle press of the fork. Since I ended up eating very little of anything, I asked about the "fresh baked" pies. Well, not made on site, but received frozen, although they are baked in house. I passed. You should too, just drive past, even though alternative choices in Morrill are few. read more

On a road trip to the middle of no where, hunger hit and we found Penny's. Having been to a couple in the past, we stopped. I can't refuse a breakfast menu in the middle of the day. I figure most places are only as good as the cook. This is a typical diner. I ordered one of the breakfast combos and my friend got a burger. No disappointment by either of us. The breakfast almost seemed like too much food. The "side" of pancakes that came with it were as big as the plate. The burger was fresh. The fries were good. The coffee was good. The portions will leave you stuffed ! They have very affordable senior options and if you stay at the Oak Tree Inn.... you eat breakfast for free or get a great discount applied to your bill. Place is disgusting. I got sick 3 times eating there. The only cook that was very clean and exceptional is gone. I found that they serve old food and that there is nothing but cross contamination all the time. I would never eat there again. Options for eating out in Morrill are pretty slim. Very occaisionally we'll stop in and grab a bite at Penny's. It is consistently horrible. I won't eat there anymore. The service is good sometimes, the food is very poor quality and none of the cooks are capable of handling something as simple as scrambled eggs without ruining them. The bacon has a funky taste to it. In the past we complained about it and were treated very rudely by the manger and told that no one else had a problem with it. (5 of us were eating breakfast there that day and all 5 of us had bacon which we could not eat.) We've gotten plates with chips in them, that's a health code violation. The cooks don't use gloves, most of them don't look like they have very good hygiene either. Eating here ensures that you'll have a major stomach ache afterwards. I'm over it. They don't care about quality at all. I think they think they can do whatever they want because there are so few other options. It's just NASTY. read more
