While not a big town, Chugwater is big enough to have beautiful rock outcrops near I-25 as you exit, and also the the oldest soda fountain in Wyoming and the Stampede Saloon and its bison burgers. Okay... who knew there is this awesome place to eat in Chugwater?! We were on our way to Estes Park and didn't want to wait to eat until we got to Loveland so we pulled into Chugwater on a whim because we are like that! This quaint, historic little gem is just full of charm. So down home friendly, with delicious food. They even had the cutest little country band playing old time country music and it just took me back to my younger days of country dances! The buffet leaves a lot to be desired. If you want something that doesn't have animal products then all you can get is homemade chips, which are decent. I took my parents and they were both unimpressed by the food. The atmosphere is really nice. The live music is wonderful and the staff is really nice. read more

Fun family owned business featuring comfort food and friendly atmosphere. Located a shorty distance from the travel center and just down the street from the Chugwater Chili store. The spicy rattlesnake eyes (jalapeño cheese deep fried) were tasty. Cheeseburger made fresh and flavorful- much better than chain hamburgers. We finished the meal off with "duff" a type of cobbler that we had served hot with ice cream. Nice relaxed atmosphere. We definitely will stop by again. read more

Let's start by remembering you are in Chugwater and should be grateful not to be eating a gas station hot dog. But despite that, this place is good. We had a burger and bowl of chili for lunch. Food is good - diner type menu. The building and atmosphere are very authentic and fun. The service was friendly - even these out-of-towners were made to feel welcome. Worth a stop! read more

I like to support small town business, but this place severely under performs. Menu is very limited, not sure what was homemade, everything my party of 8 ordered tasted like it was out of a freezer section box. Burgers way overcooked, cant be done to order as per server. Beer poured at least two inches below rim. Server was extremely pushy for our table to wrap up. Only 1 other 2 top had customers, not like we were taking up space. There was live music so they should expect for people to stick around after eating for a bit. Live music, Don Wilson, was good. Only upside of visit. My advice: not worth the visit. This place by far was the most amazing restaurant I've ever eaten at and I ate all across every states, I'm glad I drove 2 hours out my way to dine here and I would do it again even if I have to drive double the time. Annual birthday trip to Deadwood from Denver and wanted to stop and try the chili. The friendliest staff you could ever imagine. Seriously. Just stopping for lunch at this place had me pulling up Zillow. Husband and I shared a bowl of chili and we each had a cheeseburger. Food was great, the decor and atmosphere was darling. Stopped here for lunch on our way from Denver to Mount Rushmore and it did not disappoint. My husband had the Cowboy Burger and thought it was juicy and quite tasty. My youngest kids got the taquito appetizer instead of a kids meal and it was a great deal- 8 of them for $5.95. My teenage boys and I got burgers and tater tots and it filled us up nicely. I tried the chili because it was highly recommended by another reviewer and it was the only less than awesome item - go figure. I can see how many would enjoy it but it wasn't my preferred flavor. My husband and 8 year old ate it for me and thought it was really good, but it was a big helping on top of their regular meal so we took some with us in a to go container. Service was swift and the waitress was polite and helpful. In the unlikely event of ever being in Chugwater again, we would definitely return here. read more

The worst $20 lunch I think I've ever had. The special was fish-and-chips.... The chips were burnt and inedible and the "fish" was way overcooked fish sticks. The coleslaw was ok. I had ice tea to drink, which was much closer to water than tea. read more

Stopped here after reading about the town in a book and my hubby finding this place online. It was a great stop and even better meal. The ambiance is worth a stop alone, as the place is adorned with various brands of local ranchers. There is also a stage for the live entertainment, a bar area, and a small gift shop. It truly is like stepping into time. I had the chicken fried steak and it was some of the best I ever had. The steak was tender and the breading was minimal, highlighting the flavor and even under the gravy it was crispy. Hubby had the Cowboy burger and it was cooked perfectly, juicy and the BBQ sauce used was very nice. He ordered his with tater-tots and they were super crispy and seasoned. We loved this place! One of the most enjoyable evenings of our trip. What a treat to be there for live music on Friday. We had a buffet dinner of tasty comfort food and drinks from the bar followed by Dakota Country, an amazing country music band. We couldn't believe our good fortune to happen on this family-run bar/restaurant. We enjoyed the opportunity to talk to the owner and learn about some of the history of the restaurant. Now that we know about the Stampede Saloon and Eatery, we'd make plans to visit this part of the country just to be able to go to the Saloon again, especially when there's live music.
