We have ordered from Penny's several times before. Never have been disappointed. Strongly recommend the 5 star sauce. this time was over the top. We ordered 2 calzones, pickle ranch bread( heaven on earth) if you know who sniffles the dog is, it was like that. If you don't, google him. That will tell you how good the food was. So...this visit to Penny's has been 13 years in the making...literally. Let me explain.... I live, now, in NM. Having grown up in the Detroit area however, I've been blessed to have lived near some of the best pizza joints in the USA...subjective, yes, but come to Detroit and see for yourself. After moving to NM in 2009, we've had to endure the local pizza houses...lol...not all horrible, but definitely not up to level Detroit and/or other markets offer. It is what it is and yes, we definitely have our local favorites here now. One day when i was wrapping up a local MTB ride, i road into a small group of roadies finishing up there road ride. I met a young gal in that group with whom I quckly became friends with, and her Husband...who, ironically, grew up in Michigan....Lake Odessa, MI to be exact. For the next 13 years...all we heard about was this great pizza place he grew up with, back in Michigan...Penny's. Every time we went out for pizza here in ABQ...Penny's was always brought up, compared to and, I was always told that one day, i will need to try this pie. Well, our friends have retired and moved back to Michigan...and yep, you guessed it...they're living back in "Lake-O", as they call it, enjoying thier VERY early retirement. Last weekend, it finally happened. While back visiting our friends in "Lake-O", MI....I finally had my moment, to try this epic/almost mythical pizza for the very first time!! Walking up to Penny's for the first time, although it was cold outside, my palms were sweaty, my forehead was showing similar signs of perspiration...I was very nervous. Supposed this pizza sucked? What on earth was going to tell my close friends after hearing about how gret this pizza was, for the past 13 years?!?!?!??? Could i hide it? Nope! The jig was up and now it was time to give it a shot!! So, we ordered...and we waited, and then the pizza came. Oh and to add to the pressure...Penny herself came out and took time to meet me....AGH!!! I was so screwed. lol. The pizza came out, and of course, the spatula was handed to me. Everyone, and i mean everyone...all had their eyeballs pointed down the table towards me...I've felt less pressure standing over a 3' putt on the 18th at Spyglass...just saying. The bite? America - this is excellent pie!! I couldn't have been more delighted. It was as good as I was hoping...and then some. It's your quintessential small town, "up-north-esk", Midwest pizza house and nothing shy of it! From the dough to the sauce, to the generous toppings, everything resonated over 40 years of seasoned, time-tested experience of excellence. If i could clone this recipe, it would ruin many "Albuquerquen's" pizza eating experience...trust me. Is there better pizza out there? Maybe...but if this pizza place was located here in Albuquerque, it's would be my new hands-down favorite! I'd drive across town for it...no brainer. Really good pizza in Lake Odessa! Family owned, kind servers, fun Retro feel. We drove an hour to eat here and weren't disappointed.

The Pizza tasted very fresh and was on time! The thin crust is definitely a medium crust and the sauce and cheese were very heavy. This made the center fall apart a bit. I would have liked it a bit more crisp and structure to the pie. We were very happy with our decision overall. read more

One of two competing pizza joints in this little town, and this one is spectacular if you're looking for a family owned atmosphere with a bigger variety of cuisine, such as wet burritos, nachos, and spaghetti. Their spaghetti could come with more than one meatball but their meat sauce used in spaghetti is fantastic. The meat sauce is what I also use to dip my cheese sticks. The ranch tastes house made, and their dining area is cozy. When ordering pizza, however, I always choose the Penny's sauce. Service could use a bit of a tune up. They're never rude, but it doesn't really feel inviting or friendly when up to the counter all the time. A great place if you're looking for a place to sit and chat with family and friends over a good pizza. read more

Pizza is over priced, the staff is very snake like and you could get a better pizza quality from your local supermarket's frozen section. Do yourself a favor and avoid this restaurant. Thank goodness pizza is not hard to come by. read more

Food is good but was surprised to see extra credit card charge for using credit card I did not see that printed on menu.

Good, not great pizza, and its expensive. In town visiting my brother and his family we decided to have some zza for dinner. I love supporting local businesses and there are some awesome local pizza joints out there. This one is good. The food quality very good, the pizza sauce is amazing, crust was ok, topping quality was good, cheese was standard for pizza. Where the stars starting falling off. Cost, this is not a low cost option but the cost was too high for the quality in my opinion. Customer service was not good at all. We did a pickup order and waited at the service counter for 5 min before anyone acknowledged our existence, despite making eye contact with employees while we waited. I would absolutely order from Penny's again, but will be looking for a coupon next time. read more

The thin crust pizza was great. The sweet red sauce hit the spot. The pricing was reasonable. I ordered takeout so I'm not sure about the service. If they served beer I'd have eaten there. I'd definitely go back. read more
