I am submitting this complaint to document serious issues with communication, reliability, and service from Penny-wise Fuel Inc., located at 219 Shine Hill Rd, Henryville, PA 18332. I placed an order for heating oil with Penny-wise Fuel Inc. that has already been paid for through a government assistance program. Despite payment being issued, delivery was not completed. I was later informed that the driver could not make the delivery because my driveway was allegedly not cleared. This statement is inaccurate. The driveway was fully accessible, and no attempt was made to contact me at the time to address or resolve any concern. Since that missed delivery, my household has now been without heat for four days. During this time, I have repeatedly contacted Penny-wise Fuel Inc., explained the urgency of the situation, and made them aware that there are four young children living in the home. On multiple occasions, I was assured that delivery would occur "the next day." Despite these assurances, no delivery has been made, and there has been no proactive follow-up, no clear explanation, and no meaningful communication. At a minimum, I would expect timely and honest communication--especially when an essential service such as home heating is involved and payment has already been made. Instead, I have experienced broken promises, inaccurate claims, and inaction, which has caused significant stress and hardship for my household. I am requesting that this matter be addressed immediately, either by completing the prepaid delivery without further delay or by providing clear, honest communication regarding why the service cannot be fulfilled. I am submitting this complaint so that appropriate action can be taken and so others are aware of the service issues I have experienced. read more

They are good. Remember that we always need a backup to every thing life related. They are good and the possibilities exist that we forget to read the gauge and realize "we need it now" - they are reliable and honest about their ability to send fuel. The best thing is when there is a gauge that lets the companies know the client is running low and start calculating delivery time. read more

Avoid this company at all costs. If I could give them zero stars I would. We have used them for two years and recently started their automatic delivery. The other day we noticed that the heat wasn't working in our home while we were away. Look at the tank and it is at 0%. Despite auto refills they failed to come to the house for over two weeks. It was below 50 in our house and we have radiated propane heat, so the pipes are all through the walls. Tried to contact them by phone and email with no response. The owner and this company are so unprofessional and do not take accountability for their mistakes. Never use them. read more

I'm so freezing cold! Last Thursday was my delivery day. My driveway is steep. So my husband and neighbor worked on the driveway the day before and had it completely cleared. Right before Pennywise got here, unfortunately a snow squall blew snow back onto the driveway. Im disabled right now and was home alone. I called Pennywise. I told them we had no heat and could they send the truck back because by 1:00 in the afternoon the driveway was clear. The woman i spoke with was rude. And she told me that she was having a bad day. And then said i couldn't get heat until Monday. They could have come back. We are in an artic chill. And tonight we are going down to 9 degrees. I have one small electric heater. The customer service is horrible. every time I've called I'm been met with an attitude and no real help. They scheduled a tech to come to my house without my permission then wanted to charge me $125. No one in upper management ever calls back as promised. And when i did call finally to make a service run they stated I had one already scheduled so I asked when they would arrive and the had no eta, if it was going to be mornin, afternoon, or evening. It's 3 degrees outside and they are no help!!! read more

A 12 yr. customer -- Pennywise used card on file & charged my BANK CARD, UNAUTHORIZED, WITHOUT MY PERMISSION, OR PRIOR NOTIFICATION -- to pay a bill from only 2 1/2 week ago delivery. My BANK ACCOUNT EMPTIED, and checks are bouncing. I asked Pennywise for an explanation of WHO did this & was told "they don't give out names." I ask for a supervisor or manager -- told no one was available and refused to give me THEIR name too, but I'd get a call back." ---- TWO DAYS PASS, NO CALL. I call Pennywise again, & get same individual. I Identify myself, say no manager ever called me back, and AGAIN request speaking to a manager. She says "I thought the matter was resolved," and again I get answered, "no one is available, but would you like to pay your bill." ....... PAY MY BILL??? ---- I just reminded you Pennywise ALREADY helped themselves to my money 4 days ago & emptying my bank account WITHOUT any prior AUTHORIZATION, & now destroying my credit! I then tell her I called the bank & a CLAIM has been filed for an investigation on their transaction. NOW she suddenly recalls a manager's first name (allegedly) but of course they're "gone for the day." I left a voice mail message on a generic machine, doubting its legit or if "she" will erase it. So, current status: I am waiting on day 5 for a response and / or credit back to my now messed up bank account, and for the bank to contact & investigate Pennywise. I'm thoroughly disgusted from being stonewalled, probably by the perpetrator who used my bank card, I'm not sure but "she" was privy to when my bank card was previously used by me for payment. Take heed if you are using this service because THEY CHARGE YOUR CARD & DON'T TELL YOU!! This post remains until a satisfactory resolution is reached. My husband and I love this company! This is the first company that delivers heating oil and services our furnace that we have not had an issue with. I would definitely recommend them ! If you ever run out of oil they will come same or next day! read more

RIP OFF of the Century!!!Called Pennywise today for a delivery. They have a $1,000 credit of mine and used $473.40 for my first delivery (which my tank was completely empty at the time.) When I called them for a second delivery they lied to me and told me they already came 35 days after initial delivery to fill my tank again & used up ALL MY MONEY!!! Are you kidding me? NO ONE DELIVERED ANYTHING TO MY APT. NO ONE CALLED THEM FOR A DELIVERY & they have no proof of delivery!!!! Not to mention I could never use a full tank 175.40 gallons of oil in 35 days!!!! Be aware!!! Started service for propane on 09/2014, bought a propane stove and needed to run a line. I agreed to pay an additional $200 for a larger line to later add a fireplace, supposedly it would be cheaper. On 10/2017, I asked for an estimate to add the fireplace. STUNNED by the cost, I asked for an itemized/detailed estimate. I was met with great hostility and annoyance, apparently I was wrong to want details. This made me very concerned and I decided to wait for other estimates. My jaw dropped...they over estimated me $400 MORE than everyone else. I switched companies immediately! Meanwhile I received a bill for demurrage fees. When I called about the error, she stated it would be removed. The tank was still pretty full, as I had it filled 3 months prior, when I asked her about a partial refund, she was rude and stated it would only be a few dollars and that it wouldn't be worth the hassle of a refund. That agitated me, it wasn't about the money, it was about principle. Since then, the tank has sat in my yard, they finally picked it up last month 01/2018. Shortly after, I was billed again for demurrage fees plus interest to boot. I sent an email to remind her to have it removed from my account and her response to me was to send another bill with even more interest added. Let's be clear, this is not a bill about fees, this is a bill about harassment. Luckily I have an attorney who will be looking into it free of charge...most people don't, something I'm sure they count on. Save your money and headaches. This is a crooked company, not to mention spiteful and extremely rude. They have no shame!!! Complaint will be filed with BBB - Better Business Bureau. read more

Terrible customer service!! I just spoke to a customer service representative who refused to schedule a maintenance service for my home unless i agreed to buy oil from them several times. I agreed to buy oil initially and then to set-up the maintenance service, I was still refused the service because I wasn't a regular customer. I am shocked at the level of customer service, apparently this business does not want any additional customers, I would never suggest this company. read more

I've used Pennywise Fuel since moving to Pa back in 1999. Service has been great. When ever I needed an emergency delivery of oil Pennywise wS always there to get me some oil until I could get a full delivery. Pennywise will not leave you out in the cold. read more

Don't even think about using this company! The customer service has been nothing but horrible! The first time they came to the house Jim the technician wanted to change all my pipes for over $500. That was NOT necessary so we opted not to. Then he said he cant install the tank because he was missing something. He was going to make me have to call the office again to make another appointment for the following weekend. Once I insisted to make time for the following saturday, he then called somebody and had another technician come out with what he needed. He installed everything and he was ready to leave. He almost got in the car when my husband noticed gas smell in one of the rooms. Jim was pissed off and made me feel like it was our fault, but he got his stuff out of the car again and fixed it. I had 100 gallon tank installed which was used up in 10 days with 3 burners. It seemed a little odd to me, but what did I know, I trusted the experts so I had them come out to the house again to check for leaks (knowing that Jim almost left with a leak on). I asked them to not fill up the tank since I wasn't sure what was going on and using up so my gas. We had also smelled gas just before we called them so one more time I thought it was leaking. Jim came checked everything and found nothing. $45 bill. When I signed up for the service with them and also when you are on hold with this company they pride in not having to call them for refills. That was not the case - December 26th I had a full house of guests and NO propane. I called them and they told me they would try to come out that day but if not they will definitely come on Monday. I don't remember the guy's name that I spoke with but he told me about his mother getting had a stroke (or a heart attack) the previous week. Tuesday morning I checked the tank and it was empty. I called and the person I spoke with said they were not in my area that day and would have to wait until Thursday again to have a delivery. When I insisted he said he could try to have them come that day but it would be a $30 charge. Not once did he apologize or felt sorry that they messed up and didn't deliver as promised. How is this possible? To charge me for fuel delivery because they messed up? I had people in the house sleeping in a freezing room (50F) for the holidays. After again me insisting they had Jim come by again and switched the tanks with another one that had some gas in it to last until Thursday when they'd come to fill it up. He did that. On Thursday - Jan 2 - I got a bill for 94.5 gallons, however the meter showed 20% only. I called right away and emailed a picture to Christina. She said she was going to look into it and call me back. Today - Friday at 1pm I had not received any calls or voicemails so I called again. When I asked about it the lady who answered the phone was talking to me like I should be able to know what is going on, and to shake the tank and see what is going on with the meter, or that the meter was faulty. I told her that that is why I pay them and that they are the experts and they should be maintaining their tanks and meters. Then she told me that whatever I was charged is correct because they their (I forget what she called it) other truck gauge was accurate. Once I asked when the weights and measurements last certified/audited them her answer was "I will pick up my tank and sue you if you don't pay it". I expect them to pick it with what they say it is a full tank and leave me stuck with the 94.5 gallons bill. SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND DO NO USE THEM! read more

Their lack of service to the clients warranted an immediate change of company. As a new client, and unaware of the usage of the tanks, I contacted them on Friday, when we were 30%. Although we were on their "list" for delivery on Monday they did not deliver and the next delivery would be Thursday. My family cannot be without heat for the next three days. I contacted a competitor with lower price, and next day installation. Our new company will commence tomorrow and our home will be warm again - No thanks to Pennywise. read more

I have to make it know how wonderful this company has treated us this past month. As a customer for 13 years now, we discovered a leak in our tank. When we called they had someone out in just a few hours and by morning we had it fixed (no charge) and a fill on the way. AND though we didn't know when the leak started...they gave us a nice discount on the fill. Very much appreciated. Highly recommend. read more

Best price of fuel in town but cannot speak for the repair services as far as I know I will only use penny wise to fill my propane.

My experience with this company has been horrible. Their customer and answering service needs to learn people skills. Based on the good reviews I wonder if it has to do with race. Ever since I started doing business with them it's been horrible trying to communicate with them. Other than that, their technicians are very skilled in dealing with customers. They are very good in explaining everything one needs to know about safety and using propane units. read more

We just received a swimming pool heater tank and fill-ups, but service has been excellent so far. We need the pool for aerobic exercise that is easy on joints and free of heavy chlorine odors associated with public pools. But the surrounding woods limits our sunlight exposure so occasional heating is essential. read more

I've been a customer of Pennywise for 14 years. I must say, after a recent repair experience I had involving my oil furnace (with whom I purchased and had install three of over the past 9 years), I am VERY disappointed with this company. To all Pennywise customers: Make CERTAIN the techs completely diagnose the problem with your heating system BEFORE you commit to any repair work. Otherwise, they will replace random parts that may or may not solve the problem, leading to expensive and (quite possibly) unnecessary repair bills. In my situation, had the smoke test been done first, the actual problem would have been resolved the first time (failed heat exchanger), which just so happens to be covered under my manufacturer warranty. The other parts that were replaced (which didn't even need replacing) were NOT under warranty. The owner of Pennywise would not work with me on the prior repairs (sticking me with the bills). This shows you the character of that company, and their customer loyalty appreciation. read more

This place never showed up to deliver a scheduled delivery.. next day i called was told I don't have a delivery scheduled.. was told I have to pay extra 75$ dollars to deliver. Spoke with owner made new appointment for 3 days. Got call back that they would be comming today.. Great i said.. until I was told they would be charging me 40cents more a gallon than when I made first appointment I was told 2.29 a gallon. This has got to be "The WORST" company I have ever dealt with. Over the last 10 months, there have been 3-4 different "dispatch managers", and all of them, with the exception of one, were awful anyway. Being on an automatic delivery system, they have managed to let me run out of gas 3 -4 times already, and refuse to come to fill it, until 48 hours later. (even though it was their neglect). They have no control of their billing, and neglect to update invoices correctly and then refuse to fill because of some nonexistent amount to be paid. Overall, they SUCK!!!!!!!!!!! Don't make the mistake of wasting your time with these unprofessional and incompetent people. Doubt they will be around for much longer!!!!!!!! read more

I ordered a delivery of heating oil with the cleaning additive as I usually do. I have been a customer for several years and never have had a problem. When they filled my tank this year there was a terrible smell coming from the heating vents, like kerosene, causing all the inhabitants headaches and breathing discomfort. We called them and told them about the issue immediately when we turned on the heat for the first time after they filled it. My husband called to complain and spoke to a guy who answered the phone was giving us a hard time looking for ways to blame us for the issue. I asked if there was a change in the cleaning additive they used or a brand change, and they told me "No". When they agreed to send a technician, we were never told there was going to be a service charge for checking where the smell was coming from for a product they provided.They could not come immediately and came later in the day leaving my entire to suffer with the smell and leaving us no other choice but to open windows during frosty weather conditions, (in essence wasting money because our furnace had to work harder to heat our home). When Penny wise finally sent a technician to check the furnace and the tank,they spent less than 20 min in our home and asked my husband sign a paper verifying that he checked everything. The paper my husband signed did not have a cost total on it and did not have an arrival or departure time. Several weeks later I receive a bill for $165.00 and received another $192.48 after I called them to dispute the charge. I called again to dispute the second bill and I said someone is not being truthful here and the female customer representative said it was probably my husband. I explained that if we were clearly made aware of the charges we would have called another technician we know who charges less. And I also told her that her this is her companies product and this is the reason I called her. I was upset and shocked that neither her boss,Phil,or her cared if they lost loyal client. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. I tried to rent a propane tank from them for our new generator, a tank they would install, and they reneged on their WRITTEN agreement ON THE DAY OF INSTALL. A few weeks prior to install Pennywise gave me their rental price, and one week before the install date I had them write up our agreement with date of install, which tank, at what price. At no time was a substitution of tanks discussed or agreed upon, and I was very specific about only wanting that type of tank. A half hour into my install arrival time window I got a call from the tech telling me THE OWNER CHANGED HIS MIND and he no longer wants to rent me that tank at that price - they were bringing me another type of tank instead. I told the tech that's too bad, I have a written agreement. He said speak to the manager or owner. When the owner wouldn't take my call I got the manager who could care less and said he wouldn't honor a written agreement. Later I spoke to their "attorney" who gave me the reason the owner changed his mind as her defense as to why they won't honor a written agreement, and then some nonsense about the tech during our estimate several weeks ago discussing tank options as another defense. ??? I have never seen such complete disregard for customers or for a written agreement. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. read more
