I'm pretty sure I won't find another salon as good as this one as long as I'm living in a place like OKC. I'm sure my awesome experiences had almost everything to do with the stylist I saw for years. He is absolutely the best, and really knows how to cut and color in order to flatter the client's features. He is a natural artist in this genre and he's a down to earth nice person. I dislike forced, fake conversation, and my appointments with him never felt that way. I think the price is great for what you get. You can't go to a nice salon for any less than this. I've never had hair cuts that actually made my hair look longer until I grew my hair out with my stylist here. He's amazing with long hair cuts and style, and he can do a great blow-dry so you don't have to go home and "fix" things first. You can go here for services directly before an important event. In fact, I'd recommend it. In a pinch I've seen other stylists there who were very good, too, but I don't recall their names.. I've tried finding something, anything on par with Max in my new location, but so far no luck. Oh, I'm chemically sensitive, too, so I loved the fact that there was no fake nail section in this salon. * I went back and removed the name of the stylist who I love so much, even though I only know his first name. This is the hair I had on Saturday, the haircut I asked for, the haircut I got, and how much hair I have left. If I could give zero stars I would. I saw a senior director. He wouldn't watch the video I brought about gray blending and the color is not at all what I wanted - he assured me his way was better. It looks like a bad frost job from the 60s. RUINED the beautiful silver I'd been growing out for a year. This cut though, pure trash - I cried for hours. I look AWFUL!!! He was also extremely rough, pulling my hair, wiping the color aggressively, it felt like he was angry to be there. It was painful, not relaxing. Also the salon is dirty. Not the Penzones experience I remember. Hire a cleaning person for the love. And for this trash I paid $400. I was too upset to say anything. I burst into tears the moment I left. read more

If you have any respect for your hair or yourself - don't book here or see Lainey. First, being late is normal - not acknowledging your late is rude. I booked a full highlight and cut and realized as she was almost done foiling that the entire bottom row of my hair wasn't foiled in the back. I asked her if I booked a full or partial and she said full. So I inquired about this full row of hair not being weaved - her response? "I can just charge you for a partial." Okay, I'm not concerned about prices but would just like what I asked for. She then rudely and unprofessionally told me that she was going to be cutting most of the back anyways and you won't be able to see that part of my hair AND if wanted those parts foiled that was a different service and would take her longer and finished off my telling me that if I was dissatisfied once she was done we would "go from there." My hair doesn't even touch my shoulders. I declined to let her cut it due to her vibe and that she couldn't handle a round brush to even give me a good blow out. She maybe said two things to me while I was there, not inviting or kind but had no problem chatting it up with coworkers. Clearly Lainey didn't want to be at work too late or find new clients with her attitude. I've had my hair this length for 3 years and have been getting fulls and partials the entire time and have never had someone completely not do underneath for a full - if it is truly a different service would have been happy to pay, but truly just felt like I was treated poorly and trying to get money out of me. Recently had my first appt here. I chose my stylist based on reviews that mentioned his name. I FRIED my hair last year and have struggled to make it look good since then. I've had several haircuts since but the last one was really bad. Why do I mention that? Because, while I didn't have a specific description for what I wanted, I did say that I like a shaggy look but I didn't want my hair to look like a mullet or a mushroom (big, rounded top, straight bottom) which is what my last haircut was like. After we talked, he washed my hair very quickly then did my hair. Sadly, when he was done, my hair looked just like the mushroom haircut that I had previously gotten. I almost laughed out loud when I saw it because it was an exact replica. I was literally thinking "How TF did he even do that?!" To me, it seemed that he could tell that's how my last haircut was and just redid it. I guess I should've also said I HATED MY LAST HAIRCUT. But I didnt, so I guess that's partially my own fault. He was a nice guy. He was on time and very professional. It was apparent that he's got skills & I do appreciate all of that. I didn't complain and tipped for the level of service that I felt I recieved (which was great). I always hold any final decision until I wash and do my own hair after a cut. It's been several days. Upon arriving for my haircut appointment, I was informed that my stylist was "let go" the day before. No offer was made to get me in with another stylist at the GV location, and my call to customer service left me with several excuses for their error. This location does not offer all services and is extremely small. I would call ahead before scheduling a service online to make sure they are able to accommodate. I have seen so many reviews stating you will be charged for a cancellation without proper notification, even in emergent situations. read more

I've always been a big fan of Penzone. Everyone here does SUCH a great job and is incredibly friendly and accommodating. Today I saw Antonieta and she did an AMAZING job brightening and blending my blonde for me. And she was so sweet! I've had highlights for the past ~2 years, and I went in and asked to go back to my natural hair color (medium brown). Unfortunately, Laney dyed my hair so dark that it's practically black. When I told her that this was not what I wanted, she told me that the lighting was really bad in the salon and that, since my hair previously had highlights, I probably just didn't know what color my hair naturally was. I went back in a few days later to try to get it fixed, and after multiple attempts there was no difference. When this didn't work, she told me that it was my fault for being late, but I was 10 minutes early based on the time she told me. Ultimately, she was incredibly rude and my hair looks terrible, I would not recommend this place. read more

I recently moved to the area from out of state. It had been 10 weeks since my last cut...and I have been an Aveda girl for 2+ decades. But I wasn't seeing stellar reviews for local salons. And, I also wasn't seeing anyone with haircuts I just adored. (I am all about the cut). So I took a chance (heck hair grows right?) and made an appt with Kat. WOWZA! what a wonderful cut, she really took her time making sure it was just perfect. I have already scheduled my next appt with her in 7 weeks. It's been four months since my appointment and I still have to go to monthly appointments at another salon to get my hair toned to remove the brass color out of my hair. My hair was very damaged from this appointment and I was told I should not balayage or color my hair for atleast 6 months. This has been a nightmare. I reached out to the salon for a refund or some sort of compensation, but I never heard back from manangement. I've been coming to this location for years. I tried two others but this is my favorite. It's a small shop and the stylists, designers, and directors are all good in their own right, but I go for Aaron. He's the best, most friendly and down to earth person. He does excellent work and you are his focus when you're in his chair. I usually give him free reign to make me look lovely... And he always does. No matter what mood I'm in when I sit down in his chair, I'm certainly in wonderful mood when I walk out. I highly recommend him and this location. I wn't go back to a business that makes it so difficult to schedule. I was on hold twice for ten minutes each attempting to schedule haircut with Tim in German Village. You can't just call the German Village site, the only number available is the main unanswered number. gave up, tried the website. Apparently you have to work for them to be able to schedule using their screwed up website. Got to "schedule haircut", had to pick what role the beautician had in the company (stylist, director, etc.) and I didn't know. So I had to go thru all of them. Then I got to pick dates and see if Tim showed up, no he didn't, oh well. Love Tim but I have better things to do than jump thru Penzone's hoops. I saw Josie about a month ago and got an absolutely HORRENDOUS haircut. She got everything wrong, was rude, and distracted. I went in with thick, long hair asking for 2 inches off and some long layers. She proceeded to cut 5+ inches off the length and gave me layers starting around my chin all the way throughout. She started "softening' the layers using a technique I have seen before and I asked her if she was thinning my hair (I had a bad haircut about 5 years ago where they thinned my hair and wanted to avoid the trauma again). She assured me she wasn't thinning it and to "trust her". Well, I left with less than half of my hair, INCREDIBLY thin and terrible looking. The layers are choppy and stringy and she has entirely ruined the shape, texture, and nature of my hair. She made a comment at the end that if I didn't like my hair length she could always "glue some back on", and to "not be afraid of all the hair on the floor" when it was obvious that she destroyed my hair. I don't understand how she has a job as a hairstylist at all. I have been to Penzone before and seen other people but can assure you I will NEVER be returning. Incredibly dissatisfied, angry, and disappointed. I have spent the last month wishing I could undo this, so all I can do is hope no one else has to go through this. Great location for me as a local. Cute trendy atmosphere. Poppy is a gem. I really felt like we collaborated with what I wanted and her expertise. She took he time talking through the cut and color with me and I never felt silly or rushed. She even got me a cup of coffee while I waited on my color because I was a little tired. Make an appointment with a rookie stylist who did an awesome job on your challenging head of hair last time. Get switched to a "senior " stylist without warning because yours called off. Wait 20 minutes past your appointment time on a day when you really are crunched for time. Get a mediocre haircut from the senior stylist, and then notice that the salon tries to charge you twenty bucks more than the original rate. Audacity. They didn't get away with it. Angry and disappointed with my less than excellent cut, and surprised, considering Penzone's reputation. Only going back if Michael cuts it. If not, forget it. Congratulations, you found the best damn salon in Columbus. This is the only place I will get my hair done! I dye my hair (bright red) and have very light colored roots so I frequent this salon averaging about once every month or so. I've been going to this salon at this location for almost 2 years and as long as my stylist doesn't change locations, I imagine I will be a customer here forever! Michael is my go to-- he's the best! When I started booking with him he was a stylist and now has advanced to a designer and his talent is unmatched. He is always suggesting new colors for me and I never fail to leave feeling satisfied and looking like a bad ass bitch. I love that you can book online, very convenient. They keep a very good schedule, I've never had to wait more than a couple minutes to be seated. They have drinks: water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, which are nice because sometimes it gets a little chilly in there! They also sell prestige hair products and tools that you will get hooked on! The only drawback is that the building is small and could probably use a little bit of an interior remodel. However, small quarters makes for an intimate and personable environment! The outside is very cute-- fits right in with the village. I love walking in to my appointment passing flowers and plants, makes me happy :) You have to book now! the worst and ironically most expensive color jobs i've ever had, with two different stylists

I have been seeing Kat for hair services since she moved there form the Short North location a few years ago. She is so good she was worth going to back when parking was impossible and but now that she's in German Village parking is a cinch!! I love this small salon, which always has just enough activity to keep things interesting, but it's pretty mellow. Charles Penzone salons categorizes their professions by experience and charges accordingly; Kat is a "Senior Director" and she is 100% deserving. You know someone is an expert in their field when you have no idea what they're talking about half the time because it's so over your head, but at the same time they are capable of making it all make sense before making a move. Honestly, I have never had a bad haircut from her. I swear she works magic. I am busy with two little kiddos and I can't always get my hair the attention I used to, so she cuts it in such a way I can wake up, run a brush through it (or not!) and go on with my day. It always makes me laugh when I get a compliment on my hair knowing very well that I did nothing to earn such praise. It's all her and I'd recommend her to anyone! read more

I've been going to Max the Salon for years to see Tim Sante, and he's amazing at cutting my hair perfectly. I've got thin straight hair, but lots of it, and he knows how to cut it symmetrically. I have been going here for almost three years and it has been a delightful experience. I am a big fan of all the Charles Penzone salons. My stylist Lila was seriously the best stylist I have ever had. She was attentive, great conversationalist, and was very good at understanding what I wanted with my haircut. Also everyone who works there is super chill and its fun atmosphere. Unfortunately both my stylists since I have been there have quit. I recently went in for a different haircut with someone who was pretty expensive. She was also friendly, but she gave me one of the worst haircuts I have ever received. In her defense, it was her first time doing my hair and you can't get too bent out of shape about a haircut because it will eventually grow back. I guess my only complaint would be the amount of turnover here. I am hoping I can eventually find another stylist in either the Short North or German Village locations because I like it there so much. But at the end of the day, I am more loyal to the stylist than I am to the spa. read more
