I will never get tired of the apple juice base with peach and mango smoothie. It is by far the best smoothie I have ever had, ever. The consistency is so spot on, it is not even funny. Also, if you ever feel the need to indulge in some baked goods, you can munch on some what I consider healthy baked yummies. There is a supper buttery scone that lasted me a good 2 days, and there is a mixed nut bar that provides not only your quota (or at least a quarter) of protein and sweetness provided by coconut. read more

Love this place! I've never gotten prescriptions from here, but order food from the deli frequently. They are always pretty quick (usually about 5-10minutes). I've ordered sandwiches, tacos, soup and salads. All have been really good and a little pricey, but you can't get better ingredients anywhere else. Everything is very fresh and organic. One time I needed something fast, and I couldn't wait to order it online, and there it was...at of course, a premium (their one fault...which of course is understandable for a small local business). I know this a cool, trendy, very Austin kind of place, but I don't like it. I only come here for the compounded medication that I can't get elsewhere in Austin. Everything else seems overpriced, the staff are snooty and condescending and they don't know half as much about wellness and wellness products as they would like you to think they do. The store is so crowded and congested, that you can barely get around. Maybe they should think about expanding their space. I went in here for the first time last week and they will have all the business I can give them in the future. I was coming from the doctor's office suffering a migraine and could hardly see or even think straight. Immediately upon walking in the door, I was pleasantly greeted by a woman who offered to take my prescription up to the counter and help me navigate the store. They immediately checked to make sure my prescription was in stock so I wouldn't be waiting with a headache. I couldn't find my insurance card, so the pharmacist kindly offered to call Blue Cross for me to get my information and then jumped right on the phone. I was in and out within ~10 minutes, and all of the employees were fantastic: nice, courteous, and quick to help me out. LOVE this place! read more

This People's Pharmacy is really friendly, and they also have a deli. So I got my cat some medicine, and a delicious hummus sandwich. They have a wide variety of wellness products that I perused while waiting for the medicine, but I'm not too well-versed in those things. The sandwich was delicious, made exactly how I wanted (so I didn't have to feel bad specifying any special ingredients I wanted) and accompanied by a side of pasta salad that was also great. read more

This is a horrible pharmacy for compounding. The price they quoted on the phone was not the same as when I picked up my medication. Then I waited for 20 minutes at the counter and NOBODY greeted me. I had to speak up and say something. Then after 2 weeks they didn't have my medication ready after I called asked about when it would be ready. The people were not friendly, knowledgeable, or responsive. And they didn't seem to care. If you need to have any compounding medication, go to Apothecary Shop on Angus Road. read more

I really like this place. The people are nice, the store has great stuff: Food is YUMMY! Gotta try their egg salad, and Straight From the Vine Sauerkraut, Dill and Lemon. PERFECTION! I received a diagnosis of bronchitis verging on pneumonia. I have the prescription for my Z-Pak and my cough syrup sent to Peoples RX on So Lamar and am told that they do not have enough hydro codeine to make my cough syrup so I could wait until they order it or have my doctor send it to another pharmacy. Now think about that, they didn't say they had it on order, they would have to order it. What kind of pharmacy lets their stock get down to practically zero before re-ordering. They obviously have a lousy inventory control system. I try to shop local but People's has lost my business. read more

I LOVE coming here! Knowing that I can get a delicious Paleo lunch made with organic, pastured meats makes me so happy. I actually have started getting my salads here before heading to work because their food is of better quality than many of the larger natural markets by my job. I also like being able to run in for pantry essentials like ghee or olive oil and their frozen local meats are a great price. The staff are always attentive and happy to help. I once had a question about what was in their Maple Balsamic dressing and someone called the chef and read me the ingredients! If I could give 0 stars I would. (And I hope this doesn't get 'filtered' again because it is a relevant review for any parent getting compounded medicine for their child) A little back story: My infant son was born with reflux. Any reflux parent knows this is a tough journey. Figuring out what medicine works, what best to feed your baby, up all night holding and rocking to control the pain in your baby. Well, we did find a medicine that worked and it was one that People's pharmacy would have to compound. It worked wonderfully at first but by day 15 we were noticing it wasn't as effective. The pharmacist agreed to fill my RX every 10 days which worked---at first. I started noticing I'd pick up a refill and my son seemed worse on a 'new batch of medicine'. After calling, I found out I was being given a compounded medicine made 9+ days before I called in to refill it. I politely explained that my son needed a fresh batch made. When the medicine was old, he'd have a horrible acid flare up (screaming, in pain, arching his back and not able to sleep--essentially his esophagus is getting damaged). The pharmacist agreed to remix it even though she guaranteed it would be a waste of money, claiming the PH balance was just fine. I paid out of pocket for the fresh batch to be mixed and it was just as I suspected---my son was 100% better. He needed his medicine to be compounded fresh to be effective. I thought everything was fine, since she had agreed to compound it fresh. Until I needed it filled again. This time she said no. (?!) I begged them to compound it for me fresh and after going back and forth she agreed but to come back in a few days (so two days of severe pain for my son). The next time I called to have it refilled, she said no again. I brought in my son so she could see this is a 5 month old BABY we are talking about. She seemed to enjoy holding the power in her hands to make the decision to compound the medicine fresh. She insisted she couldn't, that she had to move the product on the shelf before mixing a new batch. When I reminded her that she had done it before, she said this time she couldn't. Never mind that my son was in severe pain and all it took to make a baby feel better was to compound the medicine for him fresh. She told me it could possibly be me nursing him (I don't feel like it was her business or right to give me advice on that--but when I told her I already switched him to a sensitive formula, she then said perhaps I should seek alternative medicine. I don't understand why she thought it necessary to give me medical advice when we already see a pediatrician and a pediatric gi for my son's condition--all we needed was his medicine compounded when I needed a refill). Reluctantly, she agreed to fill it if I came back again the next day. I thought we finally ended the drama and she'd be willing to do this for my baby. Until the next refill. This time when I called the person who answered the phone said the pharmacist said no. Sigh. Again. I begged. I pleaded. She checked again with the pharmacist and she came back with this response: "She said she'd mix it fresh for you but you'll have to pay extra". WHAT?!?!?!?! I couldn't believe my ears. Pay extra? To refill a medicine that I was already having to pay out of pocket for because of the frequent refills? I've never heard of a pharmacist demanding extra money to refill a prescription. Was she going to pocket it? It felt like extortion. She knew I needed this medicine desperately and was willing to pay anything. I've never ever seen such an ego in one person. Apparently the power of mixing medicine that a little baby is in need of went to her head. So sad. To the pharmacist who made my life miserable and my baby suffer: "When a medication is compounded, the PPI granules/beads are suspended in a buffer solution (generally a neutralizing bicarbonate) to help prevent stomach acid degradation. However, many pharmacies do not add enough buffer to protect the PPI. Furthermore, the medications do not handle being in such an altered state and can degrade much more quickly. The active ingredient then becomes inactive and ineffective in a short time period than the dispensed thirty day bottle (typically 5-7 days according to studies done by the Midwest Acid Reflux Children's Institution). Our suggestion is to find a pharmacy that specializes in compounding custom medications and have them fill the script for you." I know you think you know everything. But sometimes, just sometimes, you need to listen to your customers and have a heart for the baby you are supposed to be helping, not hurting. People's pharmacy stopped getting my business that day. read more

Staff is super friendly, and I generally eat here three times a day during finals- my school is right down the road. I have been going to People's for many, many years. I always like to support local stores, and even better that they are healthy/holistically minded. However, their pharmacy staff and customer service has gotten so bad, that the time has come to move on. I have had several not-so-great experiences over the recent couple of years, but I always wrote it off and fell back on their good track record. Most recently, I had 5 different staff members give me a different answer each time to a prescription issue I was having (related to a change in laws). Several of the staff were so rude and indignant, that I was left speechless in dealing with them. Once the issue was resolved for the "final" time, they changed their mind - neglecting to fill the prescription and neglecting to tell me that. I am astonished at the lack of knowledge, professionalism, follow thru, and customer service at this store. It is a shame that it has gone so downhill, because I used to really like this place. read more

This is not the place to go to get a conventional prescription filled. I wanted to give this place my business, I really did. Now I drive a bit further down the road to the drive through Walgreen's. I always felt uncomfortable waiting at the counter to pick up my prescription. I'd be the only person there, and there would be pharmacists and assistants standing behind the counter up on their platform staring at me, but no one to come to the counter to help me. Then, I got a letter in the mail saying they stopped taking my insurance. What??? Never heard of a pharmacy not taking an insurance. It was a common one. My insurance has changed since, but I will not be bringing my prescriptions here again. That being said, I do buy my locally made 2,000 IU Vitamin D drops here. This place does seem to be a good place to buy supplements. read more

Worst customer service. If you do not have to use this pharmacy don't. They seem annoyed by customers. Refuse to answer questions and are just rude. I dropped off a prescription they grabbed it and told me it would be 24 to 48 hours. Seemed clueless that I was requesting a flavor for the prescription and sent me on my way. Then called 10 minutes late to confirm the flavor (that they refused to acknowledge while I was there) and confirm it would actually be ready by 6pm that day! I arrive, no one has a clue what I'm talking about. They put the prescription under a different name, when I asked the girl who took the prescription if she could help the other girl find it, she said she didn't know anything she just takes the prescriptions and then said "next" to the person behind me. Needless to say I'm still waiting on that prescription. Worst customer service ever. read more

Picked up my LAST rx from people's today. I was told 3 years ago they wouldn't fill a specific brand for me anymore so I asked my doc for another brand . Today I was told the same story. People's will not be filling this prescription for me anymore. Rather than changing my prescription again, I will go somewhere else for all future prescriptions. read more
