Went here multiple times for lunch when I made the unfortunate mistake of believing Bryan/Collie Station would be a good place to live. This place has good quality fast Mexican food with very good prices. I had some comical experiences ordering from the drive thru. One time when Pepe's was trying to compete with one of Freebird's giant burritos, I was convinced by the order taker to try the "bandito burrito." They were worried my car may not be able to handle the weight of the burrito. In a most proud aggie/collie station/southern farmer accent I was asked; "Howz ur suspenshun in that thar vhickle"? I answered that I would take a chance and the burrito was good but too big and messy. Overall, this place has good Mexican fast food for really good prices. I have been going to Pepe's since they opened in '69. The tacos are still very good and a great value. You can't find a better, inexpensive meal anywhere in town to match Pepe's. Great fast food despite the dumpy building. Recommendations: Queso pie (like frito pie but with queso, meat, lettuce, mmmm. Add lotsa sauce), crispy tacos (add lotsa sauce), beef burritos (add lotsa sauce). The sauce is addictive but I guess you gathered that. Pepe's beats Taco Bell with a stick. I grew up here and every time I come home I go to good ol' Pepe's. It didn't disappoint today. I got three beef soft tacos with that yummy sauce. They weren't greasy and they're slightly smaller than your standard soft taco. It was messy because it was overstuffed, but there are worse problems to have. Their food is wonderful. The service is great. The combo burritos are my favorite but all their food is good. The building, not so much. The roof in the dining room has leaked for years when it rains. The carpet in the dining room is black with filth and sticks to your shoes when you walk on it. If you go there to eat at night you will notice that the only lights on the outside that work is the sign attached to the building. The concrete in the drive thru is all cracked and broken up. The wood that is holding up the drive thru cano is rotting. I can't dine inside any longer without losing my appetite. Please put some money into your building. Home town taste that you keep.coming back for. The food is always fresh and delicious. When I lived in Bryan, I ate at Pepe's about once a week for about 25 years. Now that I'm in Austin, I miss it. What a horrible place! It's dirty and it's falling apart - the ceilings and the walls and the furniture. The food is pure garbage. I guess you get what you pay for -- it's a really cheap place. However, you have to pay for water! Even if you have ordered two "entrées". Don't ever go there! I'd give it negative stars if I could. read more

I came here a couple times in the late 90's, and was not impressed, but being there recently, I thought I'd see if they were any different, as an acquaintance had recommended it recently. Sorry people, it was pretty much like I remembered it. I had a steak fajita burrito, since their taco options were limited, a tamale, and chips & salsa. The burrito was every bit as bad as at Taco Bell. Nay, as their Burrito Supreme. Eech! I didn't ask for sour cream, and warm, cheap, watery sour cream really annoys me. An then there's the refried beans. They too were cheap, and old, and like I remembered, on or in everything they can pile it onto or cram it into. I really had to dig around to find the meat in this tube of goo. The tamale was the same Sysco/U.S. Foods/Wal-Mart & Sam's Club crap I find at non-Mexican joints. They are puny, the size of my middle finger, disgustingly greasy, and beneath the pasty corn dough dwells a pork paste seasoned like that revolting cheap breakfast chorizo. But at least the burrito didn't have that funky Taco Bell taste & smell: Pepe's meat did taste like beef, not something frozen, reconstituted, and then stewed for hours on the steam table like Taco Hell. read more

Pepes is the best kept secret in BCS. I've grown up in CS and been a regular since high school. Pepes isn't a competitor of Abuelos, Ninfas, on the border etc. Although I would rather have Pepes than any of them, don't go there expecting to sit down and have free chips and salsa brought to your table (see reviews below), as they are more aligned with the likes of Taco Bell, Taco Cabana or Taco Casa. They are not mass produced or corporate and the effect of that is evident in the food. Items are fresh, cooked daily and cheap. Both of the salsas are better than anywhere else in town. The Breakdown... Steak Fajita Bandido Burrito: This big burrito was so big that it exploded on me. The steak was very tender, but had some chewy, tendon pieces. Overall it was a good mix of flavors, and the hot sauce (in containers) was good too. Not sure what business the lettuce had in my burrito. Frito Pie ($2.59 before tax): Decent, but got soggy quick. A bit disappointed by the size for the price. I prob wouldn't get it again. Steak fajita burrito ($4.29 before tax): Not a very well constructed burrito & had an unwanted surprise of lettuce. Talk about local staple. My husband grew up here and though we had never lived here he kept talking about this place all the time I just had to come when we first visited Bryan. Still down home atmosphere and super affordable and yummy food. Try golden taco and tortilla soup! I just tried the soup for the first time and I'm hooked! Oh and don't forget the red sauce! You get what you pay for. The food is more tex mex than mexican food but my expectations were not high based on the prices. I got chips and queso, a burrito, and an enchilada all for around five bucks. Food was okay, not great but not bad either. Decent customer service, not over the top but not rude either. They were having some technical difficulties with the speaker in the drive thru, so i didn't get a good chance to look over the menu before i was asked to pull up to the window to order. Gross! The "fajita" meat was a disgrace to Fajitas! The restrooms were disgusting and the ceiling was leaking mildew water. I completely got sick eating here. This is NOT Mexican food! My kids loved the fruit burritos which is the only thing, in my opinion keeping this place open. read more

SO and I were just driving down the road looking for a place to eat at around 10am and we decided to go into Pepe's. I was pretty excited because they had burritos and I've been looking for a go to place for burritos for a while. I ordered a combo burrito and SO got the beef burrito and two beef soft tacos. All in all we won't be returning and this place doesn't have good burritos. Basically, a local Taco Bell or Del Taco. I came by the other night. The open sign was on, it was before closing time, they were still helping another customer. I pull up to the speaker, wait a few minutes to be waited on, the guy comes over the speaker and says we're closed. The open sign was still on as I left the parking lot. Pepe's WAS my favorite restaurant of all time. I can't say that anymore, every time I go there the restaurant is failing apart, most of the time the employees aren't helpful, the food is old and the portions are small. read more

Pepe's is as good as it gets for Mexican fast food. I'd liken it to a gourmet taco bueno/taco bell. Price are just as cheap, service is just as fast, but the quality and flavor are WAY better. Plus you get warm friendly service with a smile. Pepe's is a total hole in the wall and the exterior facade of the facility might deter some from giving it a chance, but I assure you if you give Pepe's a try you won't be disappointed. Yes I am a fan just dont tell anybody. Just kidding, this is a greasty taco shack that makes some pretty good mexican fast food. It is better than taco bell and is more authentic than taco bell. This is not a place to go if you are looking for something to knock your socks off but it is a good alternative to taco bell if that is what you are in the mood for.
