Pepe's has good, cheap Tex-Mex. The portions are large, and the salsa is excellent. The atmosphere is not too impressive, but there are other places that fulfill that criteria. The service was very friendly, and we were helped by the man that voices the commercials. Overall, a fast, cheap place for good Mexican food. read more

I live super close to Pepe's and honestly I was skeptical to try it, but thank god I did. There queso is fantastic and its always served piping hot. They have cheese quesadillas that if you dip in the queso are out of this world tasty. Several times I too have experienced issues with their drive through however, if you pull up to the window they will help you out. read more

First time I heard about this place was when I was just passing it one day. I then started seeing commercials about it and thought I should try it out. I got the steak fajita burrito, rice, and queso. I wouldn't have known what to get if it wasn't for the worker behind the register to help me (she made a great choice by the way). It is fast food so it was super quick but also super delicious at the same time! What topped it off was who I think was the manager who stopped by our table to make sure everything was going good with us. He was such a nice person and even offered us some of their hot sauce to make our experience that much better. Definitely recommend and will go back soon. read more

This is a go to cheap place to eat. I found a piece of something I couldn't identify in my taco so after that 2nd bite I was DONE! The dining area is really dirty & the bathrooms look like they need hazmat. Have been eating at Pepe's since they open in '69. The tacos are still as good as they were back then when they were 25 cents. They still sell them for 99 cents. The food is good at a very low price. Where else in town can you have lunch for $5 bucks and feel stuffed. Granted it is not gourmet food and the place could use a good fixing up, the food is always tasty and they always do well on their health inspections. The staff is very friendly and are happy to have your business. They have got to be doing something right to have been in business for over 45 years. read more

Pepe's is great for the price. Have eaten there for years and will continue doing so. The lunch combos are VERY affordable and the selection is great. Topped off with that fresh fried Apple Burrito (tried the other flavors but this is my favorite) sprinkled with powdered sugar and the meal is complete and way under $5.00. The Dr. Pepper is right on spot - my husband likes the sweet tea there. My sister always goes there for the beef burrito. Love Pepe's for a fast, cheap lunch. But the burritos seem to be MUCH better at dinner time, flavorful and filling, while at lunch there's not much flavor and more tortilla than beans. You have to try the new Pepe's Papas (fried diced potatos with queso and chili on top), have to be horrible for you but man they are awesome. read more

Update: We tried to take the manager up on his offer to replace our meal and try them in person. He wasn't there but when the cashier called to confirm he asked to speak with us on the phone. He then started questioning my bf about our review. Instead of trying to change my mind about the food and business practices, he set them in stone! I LOVE Pepes! It's cheap, the hot sauce is amazing, and its good food. I grew up on it, but you guys REALLY need to do some remodeling! I can't even go through the drive thru anymore without fearing I'm going to tear up my car with the pot holes. The drive thru menu doesn't even work anymore! The food is unique and good, but the consistency isn't there. The restaurant itself is an absolute dump. The owner really needs to spend some money fixing the place up, inside and out. Driving through Bryan, we decided to stop and check this place out. Before ordering, I went to the women's restroom to wash my hands. The trash bin was pulled out away from the wall and just glancing around I noticed an abundance of rat feces - not mouse, RAT - all along the baseboards and especially behind the trash bin. (This alone nixed the idea of ordering food from this place). Making my way to the front area to gather up the group I came in with, I noticed the roof leak which was dripping into a dirty dish tub with what looked like greasy, gray water. I noticed that most of the chairs and all of the booth seats didn't look as though they had been wiped out from previous customers. (No wonder they have a rat problem!). The floor was filthy, the counters were sticky and the air quality would have been better at a nascar race or a landfill. I don't understand how places such as this continue to do steady business. I begged the people with me to get their money back and we left. We will stay FAR, FAR away from this establishment. You know it's bad when a person who is passing through calls the health department in that city to make a formal complaint. Well worth the time and money for the phone call. read more

The food tastes old and the ingredients are of low quality. They received some health code violations a few months ago for having bugs near the food. I have found hairs in my meal before, and the employees don't use gloves when they handle your food! They make you pay for tap water and drinks are highly overpriced. The customer service is absolutely terrible, none of the employees have work ethic or a good attitude. I will not be returning to this place again, the food is gross!! read more

Keep this in mind when you go to Pepe's. If you're not really accustomed to the food, you WILL be on the toilet very soon after taking your first bite. So always allot time and facilities for it. Now to the food itself. I got your typical enchilada, taco, rice/bean mix plus some chips and queso. Overall... think Taco Bell, but legitimate. They really do cook the food, and I personally think that its the real stuff. Having said that, it still isn't great quality. But definitely a tasty treat when you're going to spend the night at home (and on the toilet.) read more

I agree with the yelper below who said you get what you pay for and we shouldn't have expected much. Previous experiences with hole-in-the-wall type establishments have always been favorable, so we were hoping this was another hidden gem for great Mexican food. It wasn't. My friend and I both ordered the enchilada dinner. What we got was essentially prison slop - a pile of chili and semi-melted cheese. We had to dig around for the enchiladas and weren't super convinced we would find anything under the heap of mush. My tortilla enchilada was super burned to the point where I couldn't use my flimsy plastic knife to cut it. Rice was dry and bland. It was our first time and maybe we just ordered the wrong item, but either way neither of us will be returning anytime soon. read more

This place looks awful, but like most hole in the wall places it's great. Two words: GOLDEN TACO. This taco beats Taco Bell or Taco C, easily. We love Mexican food, but were deeply disappointed in the food at Pepe's. The cheese enchiladas were mushy and had very little cheese but lots of chili gravy. The queso was runny and guacamole was brown on top. There were dead flies on the window sill by our table, hanging serapes were coated with dust, and the place looked like it hadn't had any maintenance in 20 years. We won't be going back. read more

I have lived in B/CS since the 60's, have eaten @ Pepe's forever. In the last year or so, however, the quality of food has severely taken a dive. I drove through tonight, ordered a reg burrito (no onions) & soft taco. First, who decided to start folding both ends of burritos in? HATE that. Second, reg burrito USED to be a bean burrito, w/ a little meat sauce & some cheese. I got almost no beans on my burrito tonight, & very little cheese. It was a tortilla w/ meat sauce. Third, my soft taco...on which I expected taco meat, was a tortilla with lettuce. Once, a soft taco was so full of meat that the cheese melted, & I filled up on it. Tonight, it was a total disappointment!! I threw it all away. I don't know who is in charge there now, but must say I am getting to the point where I don't want to eat there anymore. I work with a man that moved here from up north...he said he'd never go back there because the only time he ate there, the tortillas were hard enough to play frisbee with.
