"Authentic Southern-Fried Seafood Done Just Right" 08-04-2025…read more A huge shoutout to the cooks at Baffin Bay Seafood! These guys seriously know how to throw down in the kitchen. If you're craving fresh, authentic southern fried seafood, look no further; this is the spot. My husband and I stumbled across Baffin Bay on our way back to Houston from Edinburg, Texas. We were starving, craving some good ol' fried seafood, and after scouring the web, this baby popped up about an hour's drive away from Edinburg. By the time we arrived, our appetites were in high gear, and let me tell you, the wait was worth every mile. From the very first bite, we knew we'd hit the jackpot. Hubby and I were beyond satisfied that we chose this place over all the other options that Yelp had to offer. The rave reviews are well-deserved, and those food photos online? They don't lie. I could practically smell and taste the fried black drum fillets through the screen, and the real thing delivered even more flavor than I imagined. The atmosphere had that warm, small-town vibe where everyone knows everyone, reminded me a little of that series, "Dawson's Creek." We were greeted by the nicest woman (wish I had gotten her name), and right away we felt at home. Now, don't be fooled by the outside of the building, it might not look like much, but we all know the saying, "Looks can be deceiving." Inside, it's cozy but not cramped, with patio seating option that overlooks the bay. The view is calm and peaceful, the perfect backdrop for good food and drinks. Sadly, we didn't have time to sit and linger, but believe me, I was eyeing that bar! They had some of my favorites stocked on the shelf, Tito's Vodka, Apple Crown Royal, and 1800 Silver. Next time, I'm planting myself on a barstool and unwinding with a cocktail or two. Food Ratings: Fried Red Fish- 5/5 - Fried to Crispy-Golden-Brown Perfection! Fried Shrimp - 5/5 - Fried to Crispy-Golden-Brown Perfection! Redfish Po'Boy - 5/5: Fully loaded, fresh veggies, golden-brown toasted hoagie: mouthwatering. Fried Onion Rings - 5/5: Authentic and hand-cut, not the frozen stuff. Fried Okra- 5/5 - Tasted super fresh like they had been picked straight from the garden. Steamed Broccoli- 5/5: Perfectly cooked, tender but still with a crunch. Tartar Sauce- 5/5: Tangy, bold, and packed with flavor (a little strong on the onion, which I loved). Hubby went with the fried redfish Po'Boy and fried okra. He originally wanted black drum, but since they were out, he settled for the red, and he swears it was the BEST Po'Boy he's ever had. We both agreed that they are very generous with their portion sizes. I ordered the Take Two Fried Platter which comes with shrimp and your choice of fish (red, cat, or black drum), accompanied by two sides; I opted our for steamed broccoli and fried onion rings with the red fish. Everything came out hot, fresh, and fried to absolute perfection. Not a single bite disappointed. Bottom line: this place is the real deal. If you're near the Gulf of Mexico and want authentic, down-in-the-Valley, southern fried seafood, make Baffin Bay Seafood your go-to because this is the place to get it! I'm already planning my return visit. Highly, highly recommended; you will not be disappointed! Guaranteed.

I was very disappointed with my experience…read more I ordered the ribeye with a baked potato and a house salad. The first issue was that my house salad didn't arrive until after my entrée was served. I ordered my steak medium, but when I cut into it, it was completely overcooked. The meat was gray throughout, with no pink at all, and it was so tough that I couldn't enjoy it. I almost never send food back, but this was one of those rare times. The waitress was very apologetic and confirmed she had entered the order correctly as medium, so she had the kitchen prepare another steak. While waiting, I started eating my salad. When the replacement steak arrived, it looked better from the outside, but once I cut into it, I found it was just as overcooked as the first one--gray all the way through and again with no hint of pink. On top of that the baked potato was cold and seemed to maybe be reheated in the microwave as it was chewy. The "fresh rolls" had to be 1-2 days old. Stale and flavorless. At that point, I couldn't help but question the quality of the steaks. For a steakhouse, I expected a much higher standard. Based on my experience, the meat seemed to be of poor quality and certainly didn't meet expectations for a properly cooked ribeye. The waitress did her best to make things right, and I appreciate her effort, but unfortunately the kitchen failed twice. I left very disappointed and wouldn't return based on the quality of the food.

They offer lunch specials everyday, as well as all day breakfast, homemade pies and cakes, and homemade soups. They offer mostly American food, but there are some Mexican dishes thrown in for good measure. Their menu is a good size and has several good sounding options, like King Ranch chicken, but I came for the chicken fried steak mainly since it was recommended by others. I chose fried okra and mac and cheese for my sides. Chicken fried steak - this is a good thick chicken fried steak that doesn't quite extend to the breading on 2 sides, but it does on the other 2 sides. There is an obscene amount of country gravy on it, not sure why. Mac n cheese - decent version made with processed cheese. It really sticks to your mouth though. Fried okra - this was pretty good actually and lightly salted and crunchy. Not uniform in size and I'd venture to say they were even fresh okra. Dessert - since they have homemade desserts, I had to order something. They have a wide selection of pies, cakes and tiger bars. Tiger bars are similar to the pies, but in the shape of a bar and with an additional reeces like topping. I just stuck with a simple banana cream pie. Ambiance here was actually fairly quiet during the weekday lunch hour for their 2 dining rooms they have. Only 1 customer other than myself in the front room with the register and cold case, and about half of the rear room was filled with customers. Banana cream pie - I don't eat many of these since they're not exactly healthy, but I do love bananas. I thought their banana cream tasted mostly artificial though. There were no chunks of bananas. The crust saa just okay too. Overall, a decent experience with decent friendly service. I would probably try something else next time...and a different dessert too.

I was thankful the AC was working really well, as today the temperature outside was over 100°! I was impressed with the facility. It is pleasant, and apparently a local hangout. It's only three short blocks off the main highway (281) and has good parking. The menu is fairly simple: hamburgers, chicken burgers, chicken or steak finger baskets, tacos, and frozen desserts: soft serve ice cream, shakes, etc. See more at their website. The employees were friendly and helpful. The food was as expected or better. The food took a bit longer than other fast food restaurants I've been, but it arrived served to my table nice and hot. The steak fingers are mostly breading, but tastes good, especially with the gravy. The (American style) tacos were generously filled (though I do prefer the seasoning at Taco Bell. By the time I finished my meal I realized I ate too much to get a dessert... :-( Normally I would have ordered a Blizzard, but I was too full. If you like DQ you will love this one!
