I visited this restaurant since I had a job site in this town, a town in which I had never even heard of before. They offer lunch specials everyday, as well as all day breakfast, homemade pies and cakes, and homemade soups. They offer mostly American food, but there are some Mexican dishes thrown in for good measure. Their menu is a good size and has several good sounding options, like King Ranch chicken, but I came for the chicken fried steak mainly since it was recommended by others. I chose fried okra and mac and cheese for my sides. Chicken fried steak - this is a good thick chicken fried steak that doesn't quite extend to the breading on 2 sides, but it does on the other 2 sides. There is an obscene amount of country gravy on it, not sure why. Mac n cheese - decent version made with processed cheese. It really sticks to your mouth though. Fried okra - this was pretty good actually and lightly salted and crunchy. Not uniform in size and I'd venture to say they were even fresh okra. Dessert - since they have homemade desserts, I had to order something. They have a wide selection of pies, cakes and tiger bars. Tiger bars are similar to the pies, but in the shape of a bar and with an additional reeces like topping. I just stuck with a simple banana cream pie. Ambiance here was actually fairly quiet during the weekday lunch hour for their 2 dining rooms they have. Only 1 customer other than myself in the front room with the register and cold case, and about half of the rear room was filled with customers. Banana cream pie - I don't eat many of these since they're not exactly healthy, but I do love bananas. I thought their banana cream tasted mostly artificial though. There were no chunks of bananas. The crust saa just okay too. Overall, a decent experience with decent friendly service. I would probably try something else next time...and a different dessert too. read more

We have dined in and we have picked up at the drive thru window. During our dine in we had the chicken fried steak which was pretty good, good size as well. The sides are can sides but the chicken fried steak will make up for that deficiency. We have had the breakfast tacos which are a bit pricey but are of good size and well made. They offer homemade pies as well which that takes your visit to the next level. read more

The porkchop and eggs were good. I thought it needed a little salt though. The tomatoes in the Picadillo were too cooked therefore mushy but not too bad in flavor. The egg over enchiladas was really good and the homemade green sauce was excellent. The homemade shredded hashbrowns were really good too. The desserts were excellent! FYI: The waitress wasn't excellent but not bad either and the menudo doesn't come with patas. I'm returning to taste the rest of the menu. read more

A jewel in the middle of a dusty road in a small town, worth the 30-minute drive through rolling ranch land. Our party of four adults ordered chicken fried steaks, chicken and dumplings, enchiladas all with two of the many sides: tater tots, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, green beans, okra, Mac and cheese, pinto beans, Spanish rice, French fries, onion rings, broccoli/cheese casserole. Too many choices! Everything was hot, fresh and served simply in a battered, worn building. Service was decent and we had to get a slice of the many pies available for dessert. i'd hear good things about Michael and mom's homestyle food so I wanted to come try myself. Saturday night night I got here around eight and I was the third table. Options were King Ranch chicken or fried pork chops. I heard that king ranch chickenis a good meal generally,so I decided to order it, not knowing what it was. The waitress seem to think it was more like a chicken fried chicken so I ordered mashed potatoes, gravy, and, broccoli cheese casserole. Well it's more of a cheesy chicken thing and unfortunately it was too salty for me to really enjoy, but the mashed potatoes help even out the saltiness. Mashed potatoes and broccoli casserole were very good, I think I'll try the pork chops next time I'm here on a Saturday. We stopped here for breakfast on our way back from visiting Lake Corpus Christie State Park. This place is a must stop! I ordered the Cowboy Breakfast, and my husband got the Huevos Rancheros. The eggs were perfect, and they had delicious homemade tortillas. These meals hit all those comfort spots on a cold and rainy day. They also have an array of homemade pies and deserts. We took a slice of Buttermilk Pie and a piece of a chocolate mouse with cream cheese (not sure what it is called) with us to enjoy later. Looking at their display cases of desserts was so visually appealing that we couldn't help ourselves. Don't skip on this little gem! I first ate here with a dear friend after helping her at her lake house. The food was memorable and the desserts were better than any I have ever had. I have since returned several times and have never been disappointed. The last time I had the King Ranch Chicken. I recommend it. And when they first open up it was so good, but years pass it has down graded, things won't change if the owners can set rules for the employees. Cuz The food isn't fresh, I received brown lettuce on my hamburger. Fries under cook. The store bought cakes an pies are over priced for one slice. Some of the servers are rude. Also we have notice the cooks in and out the building a lot smoking which I believe that's why the food takes so long. I'm pretty sure too they do not wash there hands neither. This is the first time I have ever left a review of any restaurant I have ever been to. I am a truck driver and have eaten in restaurants all over the country. If you are looking for good, home style food - THIS IS THE PLACE!!!!!!!!!! I have been on the road for a couple months now, and this was the best meal I have had since I left home. I had the #3 breakfast for dinner. Breakfast meals are traditionally smaller than say a meal from the dinner menu. Stayed at lake Corpus Christi for the weekend and decided to check this place out for breakfast, and we are sure glad we did! I had the homemade pancake breakfast and my boyfriend enjoyed a simple egg/bacon/hash brown plate. The pancakes were to die for and you could definitely tell they were homemade, there's no faking that flavor. Came from Alice for my grandmother's birthday. The place is visibly clean. It started off ok with the service of our drinks. The waitress took are order down, there are six of us, and then took the ticket to the kitchen. 4 plates came out and two were cold. She then placed the ticket on the table so we asked where the other 2 plates were. She looked like a deer in headlights. Appears that the cook didn't prepare the whole order. So about 15 minutes after the 4 of us finished our food, the other plates came out. Waitress had to be called to refill our coffee. Food was bland with a somewhat frozen taste. The King Ranch casserole was not what we expected. The Angus burger was actually very delicious!I really expected more from this place based on what people have stated about it. This place is less than stellar in the cleanliness department, and it took quite a while to get served, but the food is tasty. And it appears that they are hand making it, so more stars for that! The chicken fried chicken had a lot of batter on it and not so much chicken, but it was tasty. My hubs got the special, blackened catfish. It had no semblance of blackened seasoning, but it was delicious! I had food envy. The mashed potatoes were good and the green beans were too. The side salad was lackluster. All in all, a good meal.
