After a whole day of traveling we were hungry and looking for Mexican food. Looked this one up and so happy we chose it. To start we had a very friendly gentleman be our server. Our margaritas were delicious. DH had the frozen strawberry and I enjoyed the mango margarita on the rocks. Nice size menu with a good selection of choices. Enjoyed that you could select the type of sauce for you enchiladas and we really liked the spicy sauce. Overall a good tex-mex restaurant with friendly staff and really quick service. In town for a family wedding and dropped in for lunch, it was delicious! Service was fast, chips and salsa were plentiful and refilled before empty, and my chicken chimichanga was super fulling. Went for the first time last night...this place is GREAT! The service was awesome! The waiter was attentive and so sweet with our little girl, and he was kicking ass taking care of the entire restaurant. Table salsa was amazing, so good you just wanna keep eating it. We were in Canyon last week and stumbled upon this gem. Our waitress was awesome! Happy, cheerful, polite! You don't see that much anymore. I didn't catch her name but she said she was from Colorado. She was the best. We all loved her. The food was very good. I had carne asada and it was perfect. Everyone else at my table were pleased with their meals. I just loved the place, and I will return as soon as I get back to Canyon, which I hope is sooner at her than later. The food is always top tier, super flavorful and delicious. The staff are always friendly and helpful, warning you if the dishes might be on the spicy side (warnings that I didn't always heed). And the atmosphere is calm and welcoming. I would recommend a visit anytime you're in Canyon. read more

The place was clean and the chips and salsa were fresh and good, but don't order the brisket tacos! They're not brisket, they're slices of roast that's full of fat. Huge chunks of fat!! Happened upon this restaurant in Canyon after touring the Plains Panhandle Museum. Food was very good, service was great, nice people. I love this place! I've been coming to Pepito's since I was a young kid I'm in my 40s now. This is mine and my husbands favorite Mexican restaurant to go to on our Friday night dates. The employees are always nice and the owners are wonderful! We love the food I always get Mexican flag enchiladas and my husband get the Chile Rellenos with toco meat. apparently, the online menu is not correct. There is no longer a 2 Chile Relleno meal for 15.99 (even though it's posted on the online menu.) And then when you call to ask about it, you get told that that's not how it's ordered and they argue with you. Wonder what happened to the customer is always right? Manager asked for proof of what we ordered from. We complied and sent text pictures of the menu. And even 30 minutes later no reply. Staff taking order even verified the order. Sadly for 15.99 the one small pepper was not very tasty or much for dinner with the small servings of rice and beans and tablespoon of side salad that was included with the meal. The chicken fajita nachos were ordered with the extra topping special and then no guacamole or sour cream and very little cheese. However they used almost a bag of salad topping to it. Over all not impressed with the restaurant and the quality of food for a to go order of 40+ dollars. Good luck with your online orders. read more

Just wasn't for me. I had the Chile Relleno. Definitely nothing to recommend. It was a small sad Pepper with a lot of batter. And even then it looked small. I also tried some queso that you could tell was rushed when being prepared. I asked the waiter (on a Friday night) if there were any drink specials. He said no quickly and that was it. After the food came out I noticed a small drink menu tucked away with specials listed. As well as seeing a sign up front showing the days drink specials.... I would suggest somewhere else. read more

This place was very close to our hotel so we gave it a shot for lunch. Everything was just fine, but it didn't wow us at all. It wasn't terrible. The tortillas were very good. We're here visiting and have been to Pepito's twice this week. Each time we had Ricky as our server and he was great! Despite being extremely busy with a packed restaurant, he was able to provide great service and was warm and friendly. The food is fantastic! I loved the posole and enchiladas. About what you should expect from a combination used car lot and tex-mex restaurant. Stuffed jalapenos were overly breaded with cold cheese inside and something green that looked like it might be a jalapeno, but didn't taste like much. The chile relleno was pretty much the same. The "iced tea" tasted like it was from a can. They asked us how the food was when we left and acted very offended when I told them and insisted that I must be from back east and that I wasn't used to their kind of food. The fact is, this is more what I would expect from a place back east than from Texas. To be fair, the agua fresca was pretty good and fajitas are supposed to be their specialty. read more

Pepitos is an average Mexican food place. We love chips and salsa. Pepitos is about average. Not great but not bad at all. We enjoy the chimichanga. The beef and the chicken with queso sauce is good. The fajitas are not to die for. I usually stay away as the beef was tough and chicken bland. The taco plates are good. The chicken tacos are better than beef unless you enjoy the grease. The atmosphere is tight and loud. It is also been difficult to catch them when they are open. If you can catch them open its worth a try but keep expectations middle of the road. read more

My wife and I had dinner at Pepito's recently while on a trip to Palo Duro Canyon from our home in Austin. Even before ordering our food, we were struck by the welcoming atmosphere and attention to detail in the decor. The walls were adorned with lovely hand-painted mosaics which, the owner informed us, had been commissioned from an artist in Mexico. As to the food: the fajitas we ordered compared favorably to our favorites at home in Austin. But the most outstanding part of the meal was the avocado margarita. Huge, pale-green, and creamy--it was absolutely delicious! (And luckily, it was big enough that I didn't begrudge my wife several sips). We highly recommend Pepito's and hope to return one day. read more

Excellent look & feel as you enter and sit. Nice pueblo style art/paintings. Good service too. No lunch specials but prices are low though. Traditional chips & salsa were gratis while waited. Clean, friendly, prompt. Food was about average, had the stuffed advocado. It is a fried advocado with your choice of chicken or beef topped with queso. Added a little salt and Cholula Hot Sauce and it was good to go. Chicken enchilada with Sour Cream sauce was 9.85 on a 10 scale. Service was excellent and judging by how fast it filled by 6pm they will have a great Thursday night. Seems to be a Canyon favorite. read more

Great experience. Super friendly staff. It's West Texas style Mexican food so if you're from east it south Texas it's not what you're used to... It's better. The sauces are based on ground chili peppers not meat/chili/tomato sauces. I ordered El Grande which came with a chili relleno (hatch/green chili not poblano), an enchilada, a tamale, a beef taco, and a bean chalupa/tostada plus rice and beans. Everything was excellent and fresh. Tons of food. I could only eat about half of it. There's a few reviews on her saying that the price was expensive and the portions were small. But this was way more than I could eat and it was only $11. The only problem I had was that my stomach wasn't big enough to allow me to enjoy everything on my plate! read more

Amazing food. Fajita's were what you would expect from your mom or grandmother if she were from Mexico. The extra hot salsa was perfectly balanced with heat and flavor. The home tortillas for the fajitas left us wanting more. The place does not serve alcohol as it is a dry county but if you bring your own alcohol they will serve you. I am from Cali and have lived all over the US and this is a great jem in a hole in the wall city. Give it a try and you will come away satisfied. read more

For the last 6 years while I was attending WT, Pepitos was my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in the area. Now that I moved to California I still haven't found any place as good as this one.
