From the moment I walked in, the energy in the office felt tense. Dr. Peppard was visibly rude to his staff, which made the environment uncomfortable and unsettling. During my root canal, he didn't wear a mask--yes, in 2025--and his overall hygiene practices left me questioning how this office is still operating. The procedure itself was rushed and rough, with little regard for my comfort or consent. I left feeling shaken, not cared for. I've had dental work done in many settings, and I've never encountered such disregard for basic professionalism, safety, or human decency. I didn't feel comfortable and would not trust him for a treatment. Plus, he just asked the dental assistant (who is NOT a dentist) "did you see something?" instead of examining my mouth himself as dentists are supposed to do. Another patient said that he just looked really fast. None of that is a proper dental evaluation! The office is not inviting at all and there are messy cables in the "room" where patients are treated. The X-ray area has a pile of dirt and mess, including an open food box with leftovers in it. Those are not health and safety standards! ***ESPAÑOL*** No recomiendo este consultorio! I wish I could give this place 1 star! I went in for what was supped to be a wisdom tooth removal. He could not remove the tooth he got extremely frustrated and left me half way through the procedure he was so mad he didn't say a word he just dropped his instruments and walked upstairs the nurses wore in shock I was crying. I had some extreme sensitivity to hot and cold in one of my teeth, and I was scheduled with a local "higher-end" dental practice to receive a root canal. I came to Jeff on a friends recommendation for a second opinion. He noticed something that they hadn't: the crown that THEY had put on was uneven, causing perpetual force on that tooth and the accompanying nerve. He fixed it super quickly and saved my a**. WORST PLACE EVER! He is so unhygienic that he reuses his gloves by flipping them inside out doesn't wear a mouth guard so when he speaks his spit lands in your mouth and breaths heavily into your mouth. My little brother got sick from a visit and also got an infection because of his poor job at filling a cavity which resulted in his tooth breaking in half thus the infection. I worked in the dental profession for many, many yhears and he is so professional and goes over and above in the hygiene of his office.l Every is sterile and immaculate. I was in town visiting family and unfortunately had a bad tooth ache. So I decided to walk into this dental office for treatment. The first thing I noticed was the friendly staff but then I also witnessed a very rude bad tempered over weight "dentist" Dr Peppard who was so rude to his dental assistants, especially this young lady. I couldn't believe how unprofessional he was. I felt so bad for that girl and his entire staff to have to deal with this "dentist". Great Work, No Mumbo Jumbo First off, I have been going to Jeff for many years and can write confidently about the pros/cons. You need to set your exceptions or you will be just another polarized reviewer. Dental care is not like reviewing a burrito. Frankly, I came across this review as I was getting the address for a friend who asked for a dental recommendation for an urgent tooth problem. In was searching for the exact address (they are off Milpas on one of this small streets so I lost the street years ago)... I ran across the wide ranging Yelp reviews and thought I would add my 2cents.... Dr. Peppard serves the community he works in... East Side Milpas... so set your expectations- no valet parking. I am sure Monticeto or Hope Ranch have great dentist (and I used to go to one) with plush waiting room and nice exam facilities. However, for me, I was finding that increasingly I wanted my face fixed and I want it fixed now and it was simply taking too long, costing too much and required too much up sell of aftercare products and services. That is not this Dentist. Peppard is Now, Right Now, Inexpensive and correct. HE IS NOT: Feel good, preventive sealers and feng shui. Dr. Peppard is safe and efficient. Here are the facts: - I have never (10 years now)... waited more than 5 minutes in lobby. - I have always been given options with any work done and been shown exactly what is wrong and each option priced. When I chose the non-recommended approach, he did it without complaint. - Frank (at the front) has always efficiently took my money with zero delay. I have never been asked to wait either coming or going... - My head has been grabbed is he dug into a really difficult part of my tooth... but the job got done and it was way in my head for goodness sake. - One or two of the reviewers are commenting about hygiene. I have never seen anything but good hygiene ... I have watched him put on a new pair of gloves each time he works on me and remove them as he leaves. I doubt he reuses them after he talks them off as a reviewer commented. It possible, but I just doubt it. Its easy to mistake lack of good music, or nice carpet or antique furniture for hygiene. Now the other stuff - I have never made small talk in the office and don't care if Dr. Peppard is large and looks like Ethyl Merman or talks only through magic wind-chimes (I making some of this up). For me it is not part of the service delivery. -If you bring your kids, make sure they know that he and his staff are working and not responsible to provide amusement. If that doesn't work, you would be better served by someone else. -For those that are not scared off by this review, you are rewarded with reasonable prices (way cheap by SB standards) and quick turn arounds. Yelp is great for picking burritos, but it is clear that Dr. Peppard has a certain flavor that will not appeal to every person. There is a tree outside for patients to hug. If you squeeze real hard, unicorns will shower you with rainbows. I am going to go eat lunch now because my teeth work perfectly. read more

Ok so where do I start! First off I want to say that his staff is awesome! Frank in the front is great and very professional. As for the Dr he needs to retire! He is so unprofessional I can't believe he still is in business! It's apparent he hates what he does. I took my 5 year old son in for an exam and you could hear him talking and yelling at his staff in a very disrespectful manner. I was there all of 15 minutes and walked out. Stay far away from Dr Peppard!! I repeat DO NOT go to him. He was filling a cavity on my then 4 year old son and dropped filling down his throat and my son started choking and the mother fu@ker wouldn't stop and let my son up, he kept on working. I was telling him my son was choking and he ignored me, so I started yelling at him to stop. He finally stopped the drill and yanked the mettle brace that was in my sons mouth that was holding it open and threw it across the room and it hit the wall. We had to leave half way through his filling and ended up going to a dentist out in Oxnard. I later heard he's a quack dentist and a Coke head. So that's my little story on why you shouldn't go to him. This happened a few years ago, but I wasn't a yelper back then and I was recently asked for a referral to a good dentist and it reminded me of this situation and I felt I needed to tell other parents my story to warn them. read more

Made my appt for 12 noon and walk in on time only to be informed by the receptionist that he had just left for the day even though I was in their appointment book. I called a week in advance to schedule an appointment for my 3 year old daughter. I specifically asked if they specialize in children this young and they assured me it wouldn't be a problem. When they finally got my daughter in the chair, I immediately noticed that the place was FILTHY. Dust covering everything! It is bad enough that there is virtually no privacy in the office but to have the dental equipment ancient and covered in dust, does not leave a good taste in your mouth (pun intended). They then attempted to take x-rays of my daughter's mouth. She was excellent for the front top and bottom but when it came to taking the side x-rays, she said it hurt too much and they weren't able to complete it. Being an adult, I myself know that the side x-rays hurt, so I certainty couldn't blame my 3 year old for not being comfortable! After about 20 more minutes of waiting, my daughter was no longer sitting in the chair, the doctor finally arrived, aggravated, sweaty and absolutely no bedside manner. He very gruffly instructed my daughter to sit in the chair, which by this point, she was hiding behind me! He asked her 2 more times in the same manor to sit, but she clearly didn't trust him and wanted nothing to do with him. He then tells me, very rudely, that she will need to see a specialist (I'm sorry, didn't you claim to be a specialist?!) and will probably have to be sedated! He then gets up and walks away! I don't understand why he would claim to specialize in children if he clearly can not even have the decency to treat them like an actual person! If I had somebody directing me in the manor in which he spoke to her, I would be hiding too! In other words, stay as far away as you can from this man! I have been cared for by Dr Peppard for the past 12 years and I have had numerous root canals and fillings performed by him. I'm a physician in Santa Barbara and I have good dental insurance. I'd like to think my standards are pretty high and Dr Peppard is the finest dentist I've ever had. He's great at numbing the area fully and his repair work and root canals is excellent. I find his demeanor to be very pleasant. I truly would not let anyone else work on my teeth. His Hygienist Rosa is also excellent, as is his friendly staff. They really care about their patients there, and I think it shows. read more

The entire office staff are nice, but for a simple dental work, you will be sitting in a dental chair for hours because Dr. Peppard try to see and take care of as many patients as possible at one time! He jump from one patient to another, back and forth, and with a a half-fast job and poor quality work at the end. I went to Dr. Peppard for simple filling and didn't had a major dental problem as I take good care of my teeth. But I ended up having 4 fillings including one crown work that costed me over $1600, and now I am in extreme pain and I am told I need a root canal on a teeth he carelessly did my crown. As a new patient I went here because they were able to fit me in within a couple days. Frank at the front desk was very courteous and went out of his way to accommodate my schedule. Once there I was brought back on time and just placed in a chair and a lead vest put on me (must be x-ray time), but not even told what they were going to be doing. I then went to the hygienist who had me slide down in my chair to where it was uncomfortable and turn my head way to the right rather than adjusting her position for the duration of the cleaning. She walked away for 5 minutes at a time a couple times to talk to random friends that stopped by to see her. Then after waiting a while for the dentist he popped in for about a minute (he was very sweaty) and just repeated what the hygienist told me and quickly answered my question as he walked away to get to his next patient. Overall the service was ok, but definitely won't be going back for any further work based on my experience. Frank at the front desk is a great person to deal with though! read more

I'm mystified by the negative reviews as they don't gibe with our experiences at all. My wife and I have been going to Dr Peppard now for well over 20 years. And we travel 50 miles each way to do so. We've found Dr Peppard to be a no nonsense kind of guy who has taken good care of us and at a very decent price. Not only are his prices lower than others I've tried, but he never tries to "sell" us on some expensive procedure and doesn't try to fix a tooth that can't be fixed. He'll tell us the options and let us choose. For example, on several occasions Peppard has simply said "That tooth is shot - no use to fill, root canal, etc. because it will still be trouble in a month or so." And here's the great part: Most dentists refer you to an oral surgeon for $1000 [or more?] extraction. Instead Peppard will do the extraction himself right then and there -- for a fraction of the cost. We're sticking with Dr Peppard. read more

WORST DOCTOR EVER! I took my little sister there and the place is small,cramped, looks untidy and unhygienic. On top of that they have the employees kids running around and hanging on the staircase. My sister had her X-rays taken and appeared to have cavities. She then got her teeth cleaned by someone who wasn't even a doctor! She was rude and wasn't suctioning my sister mouth so my sister had to keep the saliva and blood in her mouth until the lady was halfway done when she finally let her spit and at the end when she allowed her to spit for the second time during the whole procedure. After her teeth were cleaned I scheduled another appointment to get her cavities filled. My mom took her to her next appointment and had an awful experience. The doctor had to keep giving my sister numbing shots because he didn't give her enough the first 2 times. Then some of the dust from the filling went into my sisters throat and she started choking and the doctor would not let her get up spit it out. My sister started freaking out because she was choking and the doctor got up very angry and said,"I can't work like this!!" Then he left abruptly. The nurse was very nice and friendly but other than that this place and this doctor have been the worst we have ever encountered!!
