I do not recommend that you waste your time with the cybersecurity program, I still havent found a tech job with 3 certifications.

I do not recommend this organization and its courses!!! Stay away and think with who you spend your time!! I attended this organizations' courses in 2022 and 2023 and can say that donors waist their money!! This organization doesn't worth your time! I had problem with a computer they provided, and informed an instructor. He promised me 3 weeks that someone will re-install Windows and fix the issues. I tried use another computer since the call wasn't fulfilled by attendants. And this computer doesn't work also. 3 weeks I cannot normally perform task because they cannot fix problems with computer. All time they talk only about money. They promise if you finish their course you will get 6 figure salary. And they will talk you indirect way that you have to pay them. They will discriminate you based your background, ethnicity and any believes that doesn't match with its life philosophy. They instructors are proud that they not graduated any college and advertise it around clients. It sounds like: "You don't need to go to the college, just finish our course and you will get 6 figures job" Lol They will promise a lot, filter it and don't trust because in the reality it's fake. read more

When I first read about PerScholas I was really excited. A "dual" certification for free? Who wouldn't go for it if they could? I completed my A+ Certification but they didn't have time to actually teach the Net+ part of the course. They wanted you to cram for it yourself and not really understand the material to make themselves look good. I'm not knocking anyone who did it, but I don't study like that. UPDATE 4/22/14: I taught MYSELF the NET+ and got certified! Scored high too. I did it MY WAY, not the "it's ok if you fail" way like PerScholas tried to tell me. They got upset because people who were trying to study for the 2nd part of their A+ certification and their Net+ didn't want to take any of the LIMITED time left to go to a MOCK interview to a company whose funding they almost lost. (I wonder why?) Basically, they didn't care about us passing our second certification & actually retaining the information. All they wanted us to do was make them look good and as a result, they changed the testing date to make sure we didn't have time to cram to pass, because that is all it would have been. You receive a certification but you do not feel comfortable telling an employer that you're certified. What kind of sense does that make? The job developers try to push you to applying for jobs they want you to apply for such as cable installers, etc. I wouldn't ever go back there. They're a bunch of unprofessional, policy changing day to day, "do what I say or else" funny acting people. I am so glad I am done with them! Good luck to whoever gives it a try! read more

SERIOUSLY AWESOME SCHOOL! If you want to change careers, could not afford college, or just looking for work in the tech industry, this is the place to go. They teach you everything you need to know to survive in the tech world, whether novice or 15+ year expert. I received my A+ and Network+ certifications from here, it helped me get a great internship as a Junior System Admin right away! The staff and teachers are awesome! They help those that put forth the effort to help themselves first. Please don't go thinking they will just give you certifications and give you a $40k job. Per Scholas appear to be the place to receive free IT education especially if you belong to the lower working class residing within the 5 boroughs in New York City. Maybe it's not Per Scholas full responsibility how their computer system randomly selects who can or not study at their campus but it certainly does filter certain type of people. Even if you meet all the requirements you can be left out of the selection process and have to wait 3 years before being admitted without further test, interviews and computer selection process (so they say). In 3 years time anything can happen, you can get married, have children, change sex, move out of the state, change careers, get an excellent job, die, get handicapped, an so on an so forth. Waiting 3 whole years in kind of ridiculous. I don't see as a fair practice that if you fill in the requirements you don't get the chance of taking advantage of a full scholarship that can make a big difference in your life and that of others. The way I see it the computer is biased in some way. If you don't live in the projects, are white and have an excellent educational background don't even bother in taking 10th grader tests and getting interviewed so at the end the computer tell you that you're not fitting to attend Per Scholas. I also think that the tie and long sleeve shirt kind of uniform or dressing code as they call it is over rated, IT guys don't dress like that, only the owners or highly paid top executives making six figures dress in suits. What I do hope is that Per Scholas training include some human relations courses because most IT people are D-Bags and almost no one can stand them, they think too high of themselves at the level of geniuses. I would like to see them discussing quantum physics, history, sociology, philosophy and humanities and hear what comes from their mouths. The reviewer below this one appears to be new in the work force and that never had a job in an industry where people have to work shoulder to shoulder with IT personnel, I have been in a few companies and I ratify that most of them are full of themselves. I have never seen one of them wearing long sleeve shirt and tie, IT people belongs to one of the most laid back professionals I know. And, yes, you have to submit yourself to a 10th grader test and an interview, but the final pick comes from their computer program which now I can say for sure is biased because appears that this guy didn't have to go thru this final step. Buddy, you probably belong to a minority group and live in the projects to have missed it or you simply belong to the PerScholas staff and were ordered to reply my review. The mention of quantum physics come from the fact that today standard educated kids in middle school can discuss to a certain degree this subject as well as general relativity and gravitation, maybe you on't even have a clue about these subjects but I can bet that my next door 10th grader neighbor can have an opinion about it. read more

Quite disappointed that they built up my hopes and dreams but just ended up crushing them and wasting my time. I applied for the codebridge program. I took the tabe test in the Bronx, I passed it. Then about 2 weeks later I did the 1 on 1 interview in Brooklyn where I took the typing test and lightbot game, completed those with flying colors. Then 2 weeks after that I took the panel interview with about 30 other people. During this panel interview they just asked us about 4 different questions and everyone had only 1 minute to answer it. In my opinion I thought I did pretty well, much better than other people during the panel. I also felt like I was more qualified and yet I wasn't chosen. Maybe a case of reversed racism, not sure. Or maybe they considered me slightly overqualified since I taught myself how to code a little bit, not exactly sure what they were looking for. UItimately it just comes down to who the 3 people on the panel like better, qualifications don't really matter. If you're brilliant with great coding potential but a quiet introvert my guess is this type of interview process will eliminate you, as it favors someone that is more naturally extroverted and does well with public speaking. The panel interviews seemed pretty unfair, having so many people in one room at the same time and only asking 4 questions, not to mention that 2 of the panel members didn't even make eye contact with me while I was speaking throughout the whole process. I think the interview process should be condensed into one day instead of dragging it out to multiple days, wasting people's time. I thought this program was gonna change my life but all it ended up doing was making me depressed. If you do decide to go through this whole ordeal and apply, don't hold your hopes up too high. I remember reading an article that stated that only about 20% of applicants get in out of 2000. The Brooklyn location is in the old Pfizer factory building, on the 6th floor, building looks pretty run down on the inside, you enter through the parking lot. In this modern society there is a life principle that I hope and thrust that future , current and past students of Per Scholas embrace and practice daily it goes like this, "whatever you invest into, that's what you'll get out of it." It's unfortunate that several individuals have relegated their experience as one that has been unsatisfactory and useless...I wonder if they actually invested themselves totally into the program at Per Scholas...obviously not. No, the institute is not perfect or at times the most proficient in providing EACH student with the precise educational need, then again part of that responsibility falls on...the student. What I can verifiable share with anyone that cares to read with an unbiased spirit, is that Per Scholas most definitely will equip you with the academic and hands on experience that you must have in order to "BREAK INTO" the I.T. industry. Yes , if you feel that you have the acumen, you can download the Comptia A+/Net+ study material but what you will forfeit is sitting under experienced professional instructors that can impart not only knowledge ( what you are doing) but more importantly understanding (why you are doing what you're doing). This is one of the major advantages and selling points that favor Per Scholas. Taking and passing the exams only make you "paper certified", it will not give you the understanding of , "why a computer keeps rebooting itself into safe mode during a clean install" Anything worth anything comes with a price tag in life, the price tag that a student at Per Scholas has to pay is learning not just computers and networking but also professional self-discipline especially when things are not going the way they want or thought. As a current Alumni of the school. I can say that there is no school that prepares its student's better for the IT field than Per Scholas. I want to clarify three things that were stated above which for one are untrue. The admission process for Per Scholas isn't based on a computer. It's based on a set of factors which helps to highlight and draw in candidates with a desire to learn IT. The TAB test is a test administered as an entry exam into the school. Now to be frank the test isn't hard. In fact the TAB test an individual on things that are essential for everyday for life such as finding percentages and understanding the syntax of paragraphs. It isn't hard. Clearly if you can do basic math and reading than you already are ahead of the game. Second of all. The concept of having to wear ties and dress up isn't "over rated" Many Information Technology professionals wear shirt and ties. Per Scholas doesn't enforce it's students to wear ties. Rather it enforces that students look presentable. That isn't a hard thing to follow. In any industry I can almost wager that a professional look will be required. Is it any different in IT? No. It's not a hard uniform to follow. Look the part and you will get the part. Third stating that Information technology professionals are D-Bags is disrespectful and I feel the need to clarify something in regards to that. That is a general statement which utters a group of people. Which isn't the case at Per Scholas. Many students including myself have engaged in volunteer hours helping teach and assist our communities in technical support. When I am in the field I don't think of myself as a god, but rather as a human helping another human out. It's what we do at Per Scholas. We help people out. We don't take credit for being something were not. In fact at my graduation ceremony a idea that was stressed was never stop listening to people. Because I am no smarter than the next person. Everyone at Per Scholas are humble and I can testify to that first hand. Lastly what does knowing Quantum physics, sociology or physics have to do with anything. We aren't in the field of physics. Per Scholas is an excellent program and one that I can personally vouch for. It's life skills training portion was especially important for me and was the difference between working a hard physical labor job and getting to a more professional work environment. The thing about Per Scholas is you get what you put into it. If you are truly passionate about technology and listen to all their advice and put up with all the hardships, you will succeed. The certifications are there to give you a sense of accomplishment and also confidence. As a former alumni, I can not thank Per Scholas enough for its help. The hardware training they gave was instrumental in helping me land a job with a huge financial organization. Though the job was very entry level, it helped me get my feet wet in the corporate world and learn the dos and donts that are involved. It has improved my social skills and my communication skills and interpersonal skills tremendously. Sometimes people forget about how important these skills are. Technical skills are not everything. Personality is. You get the basics when you first get into Per Scholas. Later on, if you land a job and they think you have potential, they can train you further. But you have to examine your own faults and look at what you can do better. Good luck to anyone who decides to pursue an IT career. Terrible school. Waste of time. They don't have any real connections to employers. Whenever is something wrong with their job website they try to make it your fault when it's not. How is a server error my fault? They build up your hopes and dreams but when you go out there no one will hire you without prior experience, unless you have a strong connection. I highly advise people to stay away from this school unless they have time and money to spare. It seems very hit or miss. Half the people in my class didn't could find jobs yet and it's been almost a year. What a joke. They need to pull their heads out of their asses (they seriously just tell each other every day how great they are) and actually get to work. DuWaiter has it WRONG! There is NO fee for this course. It is completely FREE. There is NO secondary location and they NEVER make you sign anything except that you commit to attend- and recycle your trash. Even punks that forgot they signed this- they didn't hold it against them but still let them re-enroll. If you want to know the truth, if you took this course at any community college- it would cost you hundreds of dollars and take a YEAR to complete!! Per Scholas crams it all into 15 weeks of information packed hands-on training and ITS FREEEE!! They don't even make you pay for the A+ test itself. Also, at most colleges- they couldn't care less if you got an actual JOB after you graduate (once they have your money- it's over). At Per Scholas they ACTUALLY FOLLOW THROUGH. They make you THINK about what you want to do with your life- that's the POINT of the Life-Skills class. You could do four years at any college- and never get a clue as to how to write a resume. They even have Job-developers that will call you and say, "Ok, where have you applied? Can I look over your resume? Have you thought of this place? I put in a good word for you at this business... You can put me down as a reference. etc". Who wants to talk to you when you're broke and unemployed? NOT MANY, only a few in the entire borough of the Bronx actually. I went to this school in May 2011 and not only I learned a lot about basic troubleshooting . I also learned how to interview, resume, cover letter and most of all how to dress appropiate for an interview. I practiced my 60 second pitch daily to make sure when I do get that interview I ace it. I graduated in August 2011 and I got a non paid internship which was a great experience for me. Then I landed with Insight Global which is staffing company. They may pay low but the best advantage I had is gained experience. I got little side basic PC move jobs here and there. Then landed a 4 month contract with Unisys with MTA. Then landed a month job with CompuCom with NBC Studios. Then landed an 8 month contract with NYU for the EPIC deployment project. Then March 2013 I got a contract back with Unisys with MTA. Then in November 2014 we got news that MTA will ne taking over IT operations as of June 2015. I applied for the position and I got hired as a Computer Support Analyst 1 at the MTA IT Service Desk. June 1st 2015 my life change I work for the MTA this is really happening. Then I miss being in the field so in March 2016 I applied for the Computer Support Analyst 2 position for Desktop Support. I got interviewed in May 2016 my year probation was up June 1 2016. I got news that I got the position and now here I am today back in the field I support all Brooklyn and a few spots in Queens. I enjoy what I do and I make good money and my future is set in stone. I couldn't have done it without Per Scholas for teaching me the fundamentals. I came there with nothing and unemployed 4 years later I became permanently employed and financially secure. I highly recommend for anyone to go to Per Scholas for a career. If you commited to the 2 to 4 year plan for being new in IT this is the place to go. read more

I am an Alumni of the program. And I have read some of the comment's of former students. I can only say ; You get out of it, what you put into it. Yes, you can read the books, look at a few video's, and you may get lucky and pass your exam's. But what if you have question's on a part of the exam you are stuck on? who can answer that question? who has the knowledge you need? I have seen programs that take your money, give you the books, tell you to study, then you are on your own. At Per Scholas, you have someone to take you through the process. You can ask those question's, and get answer's. If you had the choice between a public education, and being home schooled, unless you have teacher's as parent's, which one give's you a better chance of getting into a collage. I'am thinking; Public School. If you have a choice of self study, or classroom instruction, which one work's better? For me it was the IT Program at Per Scholas. I worked with Xerox copier's at one time in life. I needed a change. In 2004 the Program was it. But you have got to want it. If you push yourself, you can go far in the field. But don't expect the school to give it to you. They can only give you the tools you need. How you use them is up to you. I will be testing soon for the ITIL exam, and plan on passing it. It was 5 week's well spent, an investment in my future. The school gave me the tools. It is up to me use them. Yes the school is free to go to; after you pass a TABE test to show you can understand the work. Even when I went there, there were people that could not read the text books. they tried, they just could not understand the work. It is a small price to pay. The threat of being charged anything for the class in anyway is utter and complete BULLS#$T!!!!!!!! I got my computer and was charged not at thing for it. The rules for bringing your ass to class are kind of strict but....it is no different than what you would experience if you were a new hire at a new job. Its called the (PROBATIONERY PERIOD!) My instructer is "THE MAN" He gave us far and beyond what was expected even by thier standards.
