When I tried to go in the settings it required a passcode. Crystal Air was the company that installed the system so I reached out to see if there is a master code the system starts with in order to set the schedule. Instead of letting me know the typical master codes to test they sent TWO people out to input the original code the system came with. I received a charge of $330. This was a feature I could have lived without. I just wanted to see if they had a code I could put in so I could put the schedule in myself. When I called to ask about the bill, the woman at the front desk told me the owner would give me a call (never heard from him). I'm beyond frustrated being stuck with a bill like this. I figured since they installed the system they would know the original code and be able to help without sending two people and charge a bunch.

He also said they were installed improperly. The lady in the office was very nice. Not her fault. He ripped us off for quite a bit to just keep coming and putting Freon in. That was three years ago. I had to call for a second visit, and because they came out twice, I was charged a service fee both times, even though the heating system was never repaired. I had no heat in the house, and when I spoke with the owner, Bob, to explain that I should not be charged twice for a problem that should have been identified during the first visit, he was unpleasant and not helpful. He compared my situation to taking a car in for repairs and still having to pay even if they don't know what's wrong -- a comparison that made no sense in this context. He also insisted that my husband call him, even after I repeatedly explained that he is my ex, then hang up the phone on me. He was insensitive and rude. I would absolutely not recommend this company to anyone. My ex‑husband and my brother both used their services in the past and recommended them to me, but it's clear that customer loyalty and family referrals mean nothing to this owner.

After a brief discussion, and texting a photo of the issue (kitchen sink leak) he provided an estimate, confirmed when he'd be here, and that was that. A short time later he arrived, repaired the issue, confirmed all was working, explained it all to me, charged me the low end of the estimate, and wished me a good day. After carefully researching and meeting with several HVAC companies, I was extremely impressed by Coastal Air Conditioning, specifically Mike Cerchia, who is their Comfort Advisor. Mike is also a tech and still goes out in the field, as needed. He has outstanding knowledge in the HVAC space. He looked at my current set up and provided us with the best fit for our house, which turned out to be forced hot air. He went over the pros and cons of forced hot air versus baseboard, which I also considered. However, my wife and I decided that forced hot air would be the least invasive option with respect to the post installation repairs that would be required, i.e, painting, sheetrock replacement, etc. As promised, Mike provided me with an estimate same day. I should point out that Mike called me periodically to see if we made a decision and if we had any questions. I informed him that we were still reviewing some of the other estimates/proposals that we have received. What we truly liked about Mike was that he never employed high pressure sales tactics. Whenever I texted him or called him, he replied immediately. If he wasn't available, he would return calls promptly. My wife and I unanimously decided that Coastal distinguished themselves from their competitors and, as such, we awarded them with our business. One of Coastal's Service Coordinators, called me to set up an appointment for a walk through, prior to the installation. Brian Mazzatenta, who is Coastal's Residential Installation Manager, performed the walkthrough and measured out what was needed. Bryan was exceptionally thorough and also has outstanding HVAC acumen. He did an excellent job of setting expectations and delivering against them. He followed up and was always available to address any questions that we had. This past Wednesday the installation began. The two techs who performed the installation were Pat and Riley. Both were outstanding. Very communicative with in depth knowledge. They worked as a cohesive team. As we have a dog we were concerned about her getting loose. Both Pat and Riley were very mindful and eased our concerns. Not only were both Pat and Riley outstanding at their jobs and incredibly reliable, they were both extremely respectful of our property. At one point Pat said that he treats a client's house as if it was his own, which was evident throughout the entire installation process. Both Pat and Riley were also very neat and cleaned up any debris that resulted from the installation. I am pleased to state that the installation has been successfully completed, which also included a new hot water heater. Our new HVAC system - both heat and air - is working fine. Overall, we are exceptionally pleased by the level of technical expertise, service and professionalism that was provided by Coastal. While more and more and more of these companies are being sold to Private Equity groups, Coastal prides itself in still being a mom and pop shop - and they are in the best possible way. Everyone from management to the techs to sales to the office are pleasant, professional and knowledgeable in their respective jobs. If you truly want to support a mom and pop business, Coastal is the place for one stop shopping for all of your HVAC needs. Yes - they are that good! I highly recommend this business.

I'll share a couple of positive notes about Irons Heating & Cooling as my experience wasn't all bad…read morebefore I get to why I did not use them in the end. I called at 8am to make a service appointment to check my boiler as my house was without heat and hot water. The representative on the phone was able to give me a same day appointment (between 12pm-2pm), which was a welcome relief. She then followed up with a call when the tech was dispatched and provided an updated arrival time. The tech, Kevin, arrived a little early and went straight to work confirming my diagnosis of a faulty blower motor (the error code was pretty clear as to what the problem was). He was courteous and efficient and I have nothing bad to say about the interaction to this point. I told Kevin that I had called Atlantic Plumbing Supply in West Long Branch to see if they had the part in stock, which they did, just in case his company had a hard time sourcing it. Kevin went back to his van to call in and work up a quote. This is where things took a turn for the worse. Atlantic Plumbing Supply was selling this replacement part (Weil-McLain 383-500-035) for $534 retail. General Plumbing Supply was sellling it for $653. Kevin came back into the house and told me the cost of the part would be $1200. I totally get that companies need to make money, and I was fine paying the $125 Service Call fee, the $40/15 min emergency service labor rate, and would have been fine paying for the part with a reasonable markup, but over 100% above retail and likely around 300% over wholesale was just way too much. Maybe they don't need new customers, so fair play to them on that, but imagine the loyalty they could have had if they had been fair on the cost of parts. Hell, I would have paid double the labor rate as long as they had been reasonable on the parts cost, but alas. I wish them well, but I do think customers should be aware of these unfortunate practices.
