I literally do construction inspection for a living. I spent 2 months doing research and picking a roofer, I educated myself on all the different products: GAF versus CertainTeed versus Owens Corning... drip edge, starter strips, ice and water shield, underlayment, different types of shingles, ridge caps / vents, can vents, talked a lot about ventilation! I ended up cold calling 8 places to get 6 quotes, 4 of which were all great. I could have went with any of the 4. Made an excel spreadsheet... But C.H.I. just stood apart. Excellent customer service, and Jim took care of us every step of the way. From the moment we met Jim, we could tell he was our guy. Very nice, not pushy at all. Jim quickly responded to any questions I had from my "research" phase, answering all my questions about the different products, all the way through "roof install day". I called him when I had a question the morning my roof was being installed. He answered right away and gave a great answer to my question. Chris the Foreman was great, too. As the roof was being installed, Chris answered all my questions and forwarded my messages to his workers and, another thing that set them apart was that they didn't follow the exact same "design" of my roof from the 1990's: Chris and his crew went above and beyond to add a few vents and things to do it the right way, because he (in his expertise) thought it looked better and would be better if the roof was installed "that" way instead of the original way from 30 years ago. I totally agreed, glad they decided to add a few things to my roof. Customer Service was top-notch! I learned when it comes to roofing, you'll read different things about the material companies. Some people swear by GAF, some people swear by CertainTeed. The material is what it is - it's the INSTALLATION that counts. If the roof SYSTEM is not installed correctly, that's when you'll have problems, regardless of material. In the end, that's why we picked C.H.I. - someone we can TRUST to do it right. I've always heard "time, money, quality: pick 2". This is my first time doing a project on the house where I honestly believe a contractor gave me all three: quick responses, quick installation (time), VERY high quality products and installation all the way through, and a VERY good price. C.H.I. gave me time, money, AND quality. Take it from me - an engineer who dug deep into way too much unnecessary detail. If you're reading this --- I've done the work for you, already: go with Certified Home Improvement.

Follow-up does not happen as promised. One morning prior to 7 a.m., I was awakened to the sound of my dogs barking insistently, only to find a truck full of building materials, and three strange men walking around my lawn. The owners son had forgotten to tell me materials would be delivered. The actual workers get 5 stars. The owner and son have earned one star. Thus, the average of 3 stars for this review. They were polite, timely, meticulously clean. They worked from sun up to sun down, barely taking any break. I have nothing but good things to say about them. I found the owners son to be quite difficult. This includes a remark that the son made about his (Mexican) workers that was quite derogatory and I was offended. After the work was completed, I had a gusher of a leak in the sunroom late one evening after the first rain. I called the next morning and was told they would come to repair the damages mid morning the following day. They failed to call or show up. I got up on a ladder and took photos, shocked by the sloppy workmanship I discovered. When I called the following day to inquire, I was rudely treated. I told the owner NOT to send the son back to my property. The following day the son arrived. I am now told that they have corrected the deficiencies, however I have zero confidence in these folks. I am considering paying a second company to do a full inspection to provide assurance that there are no more leaks and I will not have trouble down the road. Photos will be posted.

I called and they came out for free estimate on time and promptly after contacting them. Brought color samples, provided design guidance, answered all of my many questions, and provide estimate same day. No pressure, no BS. Super nice and very professional. Price was in the ballpark of what I was expecting, not cheap but fair. I feel you get what you pay for, and this family owned company company did not disappoint. They started job about three weeks after making deposit. Showed up on time and got it done. Each day they worked hard, and then cleaned up before they left. Took four days total to complete the project. No complaints, no adjustments needed, no returns to fix anything. Everything was perfect. We originally had shutters around the windows but I wasn't convinced I liked them. So Andy (owner) offer idea for custom aluminum trim. Showed me pictures of what he's done before. I requested a slight change in design (wider trim along bottom of windows) and his team delivered exactly what I requested. House looks great, and we couldn't be happier. I recommend JK Home Improvement to do your home makeover.

We had a previous tear off, meaning we have single layer roofing. I was told by rep that double layer roofing is no longer acceptable In Michigan. So we had to do another tear off. I just checked with Michigan roofing codes and there is no such change in layers. Double layer is acceptable in all Michigan cities. I also checked Go To Roofing for verbiage. Posted on their site shows they do double layer roofing. I don't like being conned. I believed rep as being trustworthy. I did have an option but it wasn't given to me. Additionally, the salesman was cantankerous when I requested a detailed quote with the scope of service. After I informed the agent who called me that I would not use their service, I received a combative phone call from the same salesman trying to understand why I would not use their service. Frankly, I'm willing to go with a vendor that charges a little more and have peace of mind. The process felt slimey and manipulative.
