I have been a long time customer of Performance Automotive and when I purchased my latest vehicle in November of 2021 the engine quickly gave me issues. I took it there and they quoted $3500 to resolve the issue. $4200 and 6 weeks later I got my truck back and it worked. Two months later the same issue happened. I took it in and they warranty replaced some of the parts but they also replaced another part. They only charged me $800 and it took 2 months for that repair. 600 miles later my engine went up again but this time way out of town. The dealership I took the vehicle to noticed they never replaced 1 sensor in the engine and also replaced that in their repair. No issues since the dealer resolved it and I have driven it over 5,000 miles since. I feel that Performance does great work on tires, alignments, and oil changes but that's as far as I would go with them. read more

I would give them 6 stars if I could. Was returning from military training at Ft Moore and my alternator gave out while driving. Within an hour and a half of calling for a tow, they had towed my car and completely replaced my alternator! And at a reasonable price, especially for frontloading service for me on a Friday afternoon. Staff were very friendly as well!! Thirty Dollar Oil Change to a $918.00 Oil Pan Replacement I purchased a use vehicle at the beginning of 2020. I decided to take the vehicle for servicing where the previous owner had taken the car, even though it was an hour drive one way from my home. I had my oil changed 3/2/20, 5/5/20, 7/23/20, and 11/4/20. 7/23/20 Oil Change A few weeks after the 7/23/20 oil was changed I noticed oil leaking from under my car. In checking the oil level I was 1 1/2 quarts low in oil. I added oil immediately and drove to Performance Auto-Gaffney SC thinking that a screw or something was loose. The owner's son came over to look at leak and advised that it appeared to be the oil pressure sender or something similar. I scheduled a time to bring the car in to get it checked out. On 8/25/20 I dropped the car off, and received a call that I needed an oil pressure sender/switch. Repair was completed on 8/26/20. 11/4/2020 Oil Change I noticed oil leaking from under my car on Monday 11/9/2020 when I got to work. I called Performance Auto and advised them that I got my oil changed the week before, and I had oil leaking from under my car. I immediately went to Performance when I got off work. The owner's son came to look at the issue. He advised me that I had a crack in my oil pan. I was trying to figure out how that happened, since I had not hit anything. I shared with him that I was sitting in my car during the oil change, and noticed that the young man used extra force to untighten, whatever under my car. I could actual hear him working under the car trying to get something loose. The owner's son advised me that nothing the young man did caused that problem. He advised me that I would need a new oil pan. I advised him that I could run to the nearest auto parts/Honda and pick one up. He advised me that it would take a few hours to replace and it was a costly repair. He told me that he would look around for a used one before looking at a new part. He added a sealant to the crack to stop the leak, and advised me to make sure I kept checking the oil level. He called me on 11/11/20 and left a message for me to call him. I called back and spoke to one of the female office workers, who advised me that he had provided her with information to give me. She advised me that the cost of the repair would be $600.00. I advised her to let the owner's son know that I would get repair completed at the beginning of new year (2021), due to finances. I decided in 2021 to take my car to Honda to get repair completed (2/23/21), instead of Performance Auto, since Honda made the car. I shared with them regarding when I noticed and oil leaking from under the car. They assessed the issue and found the following: "Drain Plug Stripped and Pan is cracked". I was advised that this occurs when oil pan screw is over tightened. I did not realize that the pan was cracked around the screw area. I assumed I had a crack down the middle of my oil pan. I advised them to complete repair, and return parts to me and reference their findings on receipt. After repair was completed I drove immediately to Performance Auto and spoke with the owner. He advised me that he would not reimburse me for the full cost, because I should have brought this issue to him. I advised him that I brought the car back and his son, who never completed any of the oil changes, was called over to access the issue, and he never mentioned anything about this being something caused by over tightening a screw. However, he told me what needed to be repaired and called regarding the cost of the repair. The owner gave me the cost of the part, but not labor. He stated that he was only giving me the cost of the part back because I was a repeat customer, and I had always been such a nice lady. He stated I should have come to him. He stated that if I have any issue/concern in the future to only speak with him. If you choose to use Performance Auto and you have an issue. Go to the owner and not anyone else. Everyone was always nice and friendly. I'm questioning the integrity of the workers, if they make a mistake. read more

Requested an alignment and nothing else. Asked if they knew what could be wrong with a/c while there. Requested that no other work be done without consulting with me for cost. After 2 hours they had apparently began ordering parts, worked on the a/c, and said they couldn't do an alignment without the parts. Said they could do it next week when the parts came in. No communication was given within the 2 hours I sat there waiting. About five minutes after they told me they couldn't do an alignment without the parts, I paid almost $200 and then got told they did do an alignment. Not sure what the truth was. A/c still runs the same as before I went in as well. Never been to a shop run with so little customer communication. The lady in the office was super nice though and did communicate with them. She seems to have been ignored as well. When I got home I was reminded they had previously been asked to look a tire with a slow leak for me. This was a few months ago. I had originally gone in for brakes. They did not come back to ask to patch the tire. All of my tires were covered under warranty and would have been replaced for a small hole but once they plugged that tire my warranty was voided. To make it worse the plug was in the sidewall and not the tread which is extremely dangerous and a place you just do not plug a tire. So I had to immediately pay for an unexpected tire cost at my usual spot. read more

I had an emergency 700 miles into my trip, another 200 to go and they bent over backwards to fix my Sport Trac (injured while towing my first camper *sigh*). I can't recommend Performance Auto highly enough; just honest, hardworking and plain good folks. Warren and his staff saved my day this past Saturday. I was traveling down towards Landrum SC on 85 South when my Yukon died. I knew it was the alternator. Warren came and picked me up himself, towed me back to his shop, I was in and out in less than 2 hours. These guys are more than fair, a lot of places would have gouged you due to your emergency situation, not these guys. I cannot recommend Warren and Performance Automotive of Gaffney enough.
