If you are familiar with the brand, Princess Auto sells all kinds of car maintenance products, and shelving and other items to outfit your garage to do the repairs and maintenance required. They have things to fix your car: wheels and tires (after all, it's winter now... are your snow tires on?); doodads to check the pressure of your tires; trailer hitches; and all and sundry for the DIY car enthusiast. So why do *I* like it when I don't know the right side of a wrench? Because they are Canadian owned and operated, and they sell work gloves and those heating things to keep your hands and feet warm in the winter. I go there maybe every 3-4 months to check out what is on display. It's different than a hardware store, but also good and useful.

They have a limited amount of inventory that they display in the store. The rest of their items are in their warehouse. You look through their catalog using their on-site computers and it will tell you if the item you want is on display (if that's the case, you just find it and get it and check out) or in their warehouse. If it's in their warehouse, you jot down the item number and bring it to the staff and they will get it for you from the warehouse. I am totally going to date myself by saying this, but the set up is a little bit like the now defunct Consumers Distributing. Does anyone remember that store? Lol. They were much more low tech back then of course, you'd have to look through an actual paper catalog to find the item number, lol. Staff here are always very pleasant. They genuinely seem like they enjoy being there. They are easy-going and have a calm demeanor. The vast majority of them are in their golden years and it appears to me like it's their post-retirement gig to get out of the house and make some extra money, lol. I could be wrong, but this is my perception. The prices are on the higher end, but I find the quality of their products are also high and they have unique items that are hard to find elsewhere. They have lots of free parking on-site in their private parking lot. If you love innovative gadgets or tools that are a bit nicer than the ones you'd find at your average hardware store, give Lee Valley a look-see.

Anyways..the repair man tells me after replacing the main control board,that the motor is rusted out!!!Are you kidding me??? I have been waiting 3 weeks for repairs to be completed&was told that they're still waiting for a motor!!! Thats right!!no washer for over 2 months!!! Seems fishy to me that a brand new WHIRL POOL washing machine's control panel&motor both were garbage!!!i In less than 4 months!!?? Apparently Lowes re stocks with returned merchandise! I was working on a home project building a self watering above ground planter. I was installing a…read moremetal frame on one side that would be against the house and would not be accessible once installed. This would be used to attach a fence for plants to crawl up on. However I needed to drill some holes in the metal to connect the pieces. The drill bits I had worked great with wood but would not pierce through this metal and was in fact dulling the bits after I had recently sharpened them. Doing some research on the internet I learned that the best bits for metal were cobalt drill bits. I checked my local stores like Canadian Tire and Rona but they did not have them. I found some on Amazon but it would take a few days for delivery. Then I found Lowes had them in stock in their store. So I ordered some for pickup around 5 PM. The next day by 9AM I received an email saying they were ready for pickup. I shot down there right away and received very pleasant service from the Pick up clerk/cashier and left a very happy customer. Arriving home I was very anxious to use these bits to see if they could perform. They cut through the metal like butter and gave me a great sense of accomplishment in both the job I was doing and using a good high quality product made by DeWalt. Beach Hardware is a very local level hardware store. It used to be a Home Hardware until last year,…read morebut the owners want to retire, and there is stiff competition for hardware stores - even in this relatively small town. When the Home Hardware sign was taken down, the Beach Hardware store went up. This place has been a hardware store since 1980, so they were well established. However, the building this company is housed in has been sold, and this company is liquidating everything in the store. In the spring of 2023, they hope to open Beach Small Engine and Repair in its place. Unfortunately, this Rona is a small store and it only has a very small selection of basic tools. I decided to look around and see what other products were for sale. I did eventually find some construction glue, tape and a few other items to buy. With my purchases in hand, I walked over to the cash register. The male cashier was looking at me with a weird (bizarre) expression on his face. Abruptly the cashier said, "You have to pay. You have to pay for the merchandise." Looking at the products being held in my hands I exclaimed, "Everything I'm buying is right here." The cashier rudely said, "How are you paying?" I replied, "With my credit card." Next, the cashier demanded that I show him a piece of photo ID. My planned purchases were for about $60.00. Feeling disgusted, I immediately placed the items onto the counter and walked straight out of the door. While I did briefly look around in this store, the cashier jumped to the totally false conclusion that I was trying to steal something. This store has only a small floor space and a very limited selection of tools and materials for sale, which are used in construction. Given my treatment I will never go back to Rona Manotick on Bankfield Road. Having such a poor shopping experience, I can't in any way recommend this Rona to anyone. I would have rated this Rona with no stars, but you have to give a least one star when writing a review.

Had a fantastic Saturday afternoon visit at Vicki's adorable little shop. She had a big selection…read moreof succulents in her DIY Succulent Bar to choose from and helped me build a beautiful arrangement in my terrarium. If you don't bring your own she ever has a small selection of jars, pots, tons and bowls to build your own arrangement, if you don't bring one. Or you can just buy your succulents to arrange at home. She's helpful, creative and really helped me to understand how to maintain my lovely new arrangement afterwards. Looking forward to another adventure - perhaps a girls afternoon!
