I had such an awesome experience, and it's all thanks to Joe (the manager) and Shay (our server). Joe is one of those managers who's always around, always helping, and always checking in. You can tell he genuinely cares. He made us feel welcome the moment we walked in -- and you could feel the good energy from the whole staff. Shay was incredible! Super friendly, on point with everything, and just the kind of server who makes your day better. Drinks refilled before we even asked, food came out fast and perfect, and she had a smile the whole time. Total pro. The food was -- I had the pancakes and steak & eggs. 3.5 stars When we went we discovered there was free pie on Mondays with a purchase of an entree! What our luck. I think the staff was new as they seemed not to have all the information, but they were friendly and more than happy to figure things out. They also were out of a few different menu items but that's to be expected in our current times of backlog and short staff situations, so it didn't bother me. What I got: Bbq Tangler Burger with fries - 4 stars. I loved all the toppings and the amount of fries was perfect, they weren't overflowing and I was able to enjoy them without feeling disgusting afterwards. Wildberry pie - 4 stars. I am referring to the one on Bismarck Expressway. I've been there twice and was so disappointed, as I remembered Perkins to be one of my favorite mid-west restaurants. The service was terrible! The manager (or who appears to be) was friendly enough, but our server seemed put-off when we asked him for things HE had forgotten. We waited for over an hour for our food and what came out was rubbery eggs that had been sitting under a lamp for some time and overcooked pancakes. I normally wouldn't complain, but this is twice. There were only four tables, so there wasn't a rush or a situation of being understaffed. The waiter clearly didn't want to be there, which is true for many people with their jobs, but in the service industry... fake it. read more

Ok,here is my honest opinion on perkins. Perkins is a great restaurant when it comes to service, and it pains me to say that coming here in the morning is guaranteed great service. However, in the night, it's a hit or miss (although it has improved from my first night visit). The food always comes out hot, meaning the food never sits and gets dry. My favorite thing about perkins is how I see the employees genuinely treat each other like family,even myself has grown close to the server that serves me. I arrived at the restaurant at 12:20 when they close at 2am . They said the food would take a long time and would be a pain, the waitress sitting us was visibly under the influence of drugs and couldn't create a full thought. It was ok. The server was very kind and tentative. We were the only ones in the restaurant and the food took awhile but I get it sometimes food takes while. When we got the food it was kinda cold, I ordered eggs over easy and my eggs were over hard. The bacon was so thin and over cooked, the pancakes were not cooked all the way through and were bland. When I arrived, I was greeted very warm and friendly. My server was also the person who's greeted me. My burger was done perfectly. Hashbrowns where very oily and soggy, sausage links where ok, but didn't appear browned, bacon was ok, toast was soggy, eggs where oily. Manager removed meal from my bill, I ordered pie instead and it was barely cold as it should for a cream pie, looked old and was ok at best. The restaurant it's self was dead. If I could give this Perkins a 0 star rating I would. When I say I have never been more uncomfortable in my whole life I am being dead serious. The server was horribly rude and scared the poop out of me, which is exactly what this food will be doing to me as well. Quite frankly, after my last visit to the Bismarck Perkins location, I'm stunned it's still open. It has to be one of the most poorly managed restaurants I've been to in recent memory. There's no one there to seat you and then once you get to your seat, you have to deal with stench of the unsightly tables around you that still have dirty dishes from previous guests on them, along with condiments all over the floor. One of the people I sat with actually found a long, stringy blonde hair in her breakfast entree. The ND Department of Health needs to pay this place a visit before someone ends up in the hospital. read more

I literally just showed up to the restaurant. Just eat some food on the way home and they locked the doors right before we walked up. Six people walked out and they were perfectly fine with locking the doors right in front of us. This is Perkins and it's not a bar. I understand that but why. I usually really love Perkins but this one is not doing so good. I love the menu but the staff doesn't seem to like or appreciate their jobs. The morning/noon waitresses aren't fast or friendly. My family and I decided to come in last minute here. We were greeted right away. Our waiter was amazing and the manager came up and to make sure we were doing fine and if we needed anything. Tonight was peaceful there was no yelling or anything. Everyone was working together as a team. Please keep up the good work. I was going to write about the one 'Up North' to get the cool 'blue, first prize' looking ribbon announcing 'First Review'...aw well. *disclaimer (I'm writing in the past tense) So, the reason I write, I love Perkins. I have great memories of this place. I was born and raised in Bismarck, but, I'm 'Bostonian', wow more than 9 years--(yes, we are very mean people) BUT I haven't forgotten my roots! During my formative 'high school' years; there wasn't much to do (has this changed at all!??). So, I tell people, we" -go to/or rent a movie, - party (I was a nerd,- so, nope ), - drag 'Main' (did people? do they still?) -GO TO PERKINS! they were open 24 hours. The food was main stream, but solid, and it was a place to hang out. They had incredible strawberry pie, which was seasonal, the best banana nut muffins (served w/ warm butter if you ate 'in house') and my father, a connoisseur of 'pecan pie'; we'd order the pie from 'The 'Perk' During non-crazy, busy hours, I'd do homework at a booth. The servers were attentive, refilling my soda, respecting my space, and could tell I needed something (like pie). But they didn't kick me out. As a tennis player, there were days where I needed to 'carbo' load for an important match; the antedote! A warm, soft DELICIOUS bread bowl with honey mustard on the side....... ****I will tell you, I would bathe in that honey mustard! That honey mustard is the standard of all honey mustards! Well, my memories are now just memories, they don't have bread bowls any more (BLASPHEMY!), and they discontinued my favorite sandwhich...the 'Deli Hop'. Please note, the baked goods are DELISH! I was looking for a new place to eat lunch when I found Perkins Family Restaurant. The place is so nice, stylish and very good ambiance. The waiter was so friendly and fast in serving me. He also helped me with the menu. So I tried first their BBQ Bacon Supreme Burger, it have smoked bacon, American cheese, tangy BBQ sauce, lettuce, tomato and pickles. It was the best bbq burger for me! I loved it!! I also ordered for desserts. I tried Banana Cream, it's loaded with hand-sliced bananas and topped with real whipped cream and chopped walnuts. Dayuuuuum I loved it!! I think of bringing my niece and nephews here for my next visit because I saw their kid's menu, and it looks like the kids would love it here in Perkins Family Restaurant. Perkins is for us in the South, like a Dennys/IHOP..but the customer service here and this entire city seems like the best in the USA!! That is the biggest reason they get five stars! We had breakfast and everyone enjoyed their meals..I had the country biscuit breakfast, usual fare. There was a Granny's omelet that was enjoyed by another person in our party. Three scenarios to consider when thinking of Perkins: 1) Are you craving good breakfast food? 2) Is it 2 am and you're pretty far into that bottle? 3) Are you just bored and kinda hungry? If you answered yes to any of the above 3 scenarios, you should probably head to Perkins. I've been to this Perkins more times than I can count and I've never had a bad experience. This is mostly because I don't come to Perkins during a scenario that will set it up for failure. Perkins knows what it is, it knows what it does, and it fills those roles incredibly well. If you follow the same plan, you'll love this place as much as I do. If you don't, you'll probably come away with a 3 star impression. This place is 5 star worthy, but you just have to remember to follow the above scenarios as a guide. And remember to tip well (drunk or sober)! read more

My friend and I went to this restaurant and waited 5 minutes to be seated. Not to mention there hand sanitizer smells like like chocolate mixed with hand sanitizer and made me gag. Then when we were seated I waited another 5 minutes for them to ask us what drinks we would like. We both ordered waters and it took them 10 minutes, 10 MINUTES, to get WATER. We started drinking our water and we're quiet fed up with the wait and we knew what we were going to order before our water came.
