I seen the Ground Round while driving to our hotel in Bismarck. I couldn't resist trying it, as I remembered eating at GR many times when I was a kid. We got in late, so we wanted something light. Their menu has all kinds of choices and we found just what we wanted. Soup and salad. I had the Tortilla Soup and one of their salads. The soup was outstanding. Piping hot and full of flavor. The salad was also very good. Fresh, crisp, quality greens, and served in a chilled bowl. The other guys had similar meals and we were all impressed. I would definitely go here again. read more

We had an excellent experience dining here this evening, mainly due to our amazing server Simon. He was awesome and was handling quite a few tables at the same time and we were amazed how he was making sure everyone had refills without asking for them and getting all food out quickly so it's hot and fresh. The service here was okay. Our server was nice, but not as attentive as I am used to. For our table of 6, when we ran out of water we had to ask for more. The burger was an okay basic burger. Mine came with avocado, but I feel as though the avocado wasn't the freshest, as it was brown. And there wasn't much on the burger itself. I ordered the fried cinnamon bread for dessert with ice cream. The picture had an actual scoop, but they give out soft serve. The other people in my group seemed to like their food. Good burgers! I got the Mexi Burger & hubs got the Haystack Burger. We got their corn salsa with chips which was really good. They bring you a basket of popcorn when you're seated. Nice atmosphere, casual bar & grill. Hostess and waitress were very pleasant. We did have to wait over 20 min for our food but we were here during the lunch rush. When I get back to ND Ground Round is a must stop. From the soup to the popcorn- five stars! The reason I gave a 3 star review is the horrible smell and the bad service. Starting out we had great service. After receiving our drinks, we got a new waitress. She was completely clueless to anything and everything. In regards to the horrible smell. Love the popcorn they serve with unending love. Hate the fact they serve a Caesar salad with bacon bits and black olives on it. Bar area was bit of a mess, but the bartender knew her customers and kept servers' drinks coming - and quickly. Just like Applebee's, you can't give The Ground Round more than 3 stars, because if you do, something's wrong with your culinary tastes. Just finished supper at teh Ground Round Bismarck, ND. The wife ordered an Oriental Chicken Salad ($14) and when it arrived it was extremely small, like a lunch portion! The manager refused to add any vegetables to it so she sent it back and ordered something else. The manager didn't even have the courtesy, or the courage, to come to our table to talk with her about that extremely small portion and why he would not get her more vegetables! Ordered two nachos and sliders waited 45 minutes for the worst nachos ever. We did get a 15 dollar reduction due to wait time. Meal with tip was still 35 and not even worth that. Nothing bad to say about Ground Round. I love that their salads are so big! Most of the time, my husband and I just stop into the bar and have some appetizers and a beer (when I'm not pregnant of course!) The food is generally pretty good and the staff is friendly. We were driving and recalled that we hadn't been at Ground Round since our local neighborhood one closed 20 years ago! Darn you nostalgia! Yes we remembered the free popcorn.... Given the limited amount of locally-owned, quality eateries in Bismarck, this place is pretty good. I'm a fan of the popcorn - who isn't? And they really do keep it comin'. I'm also a fan of the chicken tortilla soup, and I get it every single time I'm there. Their other food? Meh. The salads are drenched in too much dressing and served with iceberg lettuce (ick). I suppose you could stop in for a burger or chicken sandwich and it would be pretty good. Oh, I almost forgot...The Ground Round's claim to fame is long island tea night on Wednesdays. This place KILLED IT!! From the atmospheric dark lighting to the to the confusing seat patterns, it's a must stop! I got the chicken wings and they seemed like they were dipped in creamy, buttery queso... just like the garlic Parmesan wings I asked for. I've been waiting over an hour for my food. I've seen people that got seated after me get their food. I would only come here if you had an extremely long airport layover. Not only did the manager blame me for ordering a burger she then tried to say it's because they were so busy. I asked why the table next to us was seated twice and finished before we even got our food if that was the case. No answer. Then they forgot to bring out our soup and still charged me for it. Mediocre burgers, mediocre service. I hate chain restaurants for the most part, but for some reason my customer I'm working with decided we come here anyway. My burger was not prepared the way I requested and the waitress didn't bother to check, but I ate it anyway. The fries were lukewarm. My client said "that was good" as we were leaving so maybe that's what I should expect from North Dakota with my presumably high Los Angeles standards, but I've had much better in places more rural than this. read more

Okay first of all the popcorn here that they give you to munch on is sooo good! It's like crack! However the service here was not good at all! We had a male server who was the least bit interested in helping keep the glasses full as well as the popcorn. We ordered 3 appetizers because it was 3pm and we just needed some snacks after some holiday shopping. The restaurant wasn't busy by no means but he was too busy yacking his mouth to earn a tip. My family and I have been going to this Ground Round for a couple of decades, so needless to say I have had the gauntlet of experiences. If you are unfamiliar with what a Ground Round is, just think Applebees but way less in-your-face preppy. Their chicken alfredo with broccoli is a standout menu item, and their side of broccoli is a worthwhile substitute for the unhealthier side item options if you are watching your girlish (or man-ish... no one's judging) figure. This used to be our favorite food place but think recently they need to find a new bunch of cooks.. I ordered french onion soup and it was sludge at best, the croutons were soggy and melted into what little juice there was in the bowl, when did they start putting croutons in instead of french bread? Most of it was just a slimy mess, I also ordered the chicken breast with buffalo sauce on it, told them to cook it well done and brown and it came pale, was well done but very tasteless...hubby ordered the hamburger sliders and they were burnt so he was able to eat two and left the other ones..I noticed the rest of our party left more on their plates than they actually ate..that should be a clue to the waitresses that things aren't great but there isn't much she could do anyway...another wasted 100 dollars plus... read more
