This place is the absolute worst place to eat. The service is terrible and slow. And when they finally bring the food out, it's mediocre at best. They sit you down at a table and leave you there for 20 minutes before taking your order, even when it's not busy. Waitresses have no initiative or competence. I received a burnt 4 oz P.O.S. and a thin egg-veiled composition of old burnt onions and bacon, all completely covered in what they call hollandaise sauce. Cost ...50 bucks. I visited family in February and we ate at Perkins twice for breakfast. I had a BLT on one visit and the other visit was bacon, toast, hash brown and fruit. Disappointed no grits we available (only instant). I also got a variety of muffins to go on my way back home to Bama. A great surprise......buy three muffins, get three free. My lucky day!! The food and service was awesome. Bacon was prepared as ordered, crisp. Our food only took ten minutes to be served. Coffee was outstanding and I'm a coffee snob. We like the food at Perkins -- their muffins and pies are wonderful. Their service yesterday was beyond awful. It took 45 minutes to get our breakfast with no apologies from the waiter. To add insult to injury, people who were seated and ordered after us got their food first. When the food finally arrived, our bacon (ordered extra crisp) was very greasy and barely crisp. The hash browns had been on the griddle just long enough to get hot; they were hardly browned. I had to remind the waiter twice that I had also ordered a muffin. We had been waiting so long and were so hungry, we just ate what we could rather than send the plates back. I've been here twice. The food is good and I like the establishment. The first time I came here we waited quite awhile and they forgot several parts of our order. After waiting so long, I didn't find it worth it to ask them to remake it although I specifically asked for certain things. Also, my order said it contained bacon, but it came with no bacon, so that was on the cook. Second time I came, we were asked if we wanted drinks twice, but then we waited 45 minutes for them to come back to ask if we wanted to order food. I just looked at the other reviews about the service. So it wasn't just me. Service does not seem to be a priority but the food i have ordered there was good. Staff is friendly but not rushed. That could be a good thing....but when its slow its very slow. I have been there about 20 times on my days off. I would not stop in if i had to be somewhere for an appointment. Today was a terrible experience and a waste of $35 on a meal that was not hot and service that was beyond slow with no concern or apology. The manager on duty was not apologetic and was more concerned with paying out the table than anything. I watched several people complain, leave or become frustrated and disappointed in the service that was given today. I'm not sure if the waiter was new but she definitely needs additional training and the manager needs to be back on table duty because she was no help at all. read more

If I could give this place a zero star, I would. My mother has been going here for forty years, and we went here today. It was awful, the food was sloppily placed on the all of our plates, after us waiting forty five minutes, the pineapple was rotten on our burgers, and we complained to the waitress and she was very nice. The food is just ok, asked for extra crispy hash browns, they were not extra crispy, sausage and eggs were fine, one piece of my toast was somewhat burnt. Great place to have breakfast any time of day. When they have the seasonal menu, I would recommend ordering asparagus in an omelet along with whatever else you like. It is fantastic. Every time we have been there, the eggs and whatever ordered with them have been fantastic. The exception to that is the hash browns have continually tasted like they have been fried in old grease. Every time I have gone there in the last year, they have tasted that way. A real disappointment since this is one of my favorite things to have with breakfast. The coffee is good. The cheese sticks are not worth the price and are served with a not so good marinara sauce. read more

BIL reports the french toast was perfect, good enough to eat at every meal. Thick, eggy all the way through but somehow not dry, dense, or runny, exterior crispy and fluffy, and only lightly sweetened. Perfect. Fresh pies and muffins, all baked on site. Hot damn. Old-fashioned coffee, not great, but plenty of it. If Jeff's your server, you will have a good time, he's amazingly friendly, patient, and attentive. Every time we visit Decatur we find ourselves here for breakfast/lunch and every time it's the same thing...slow to non existant service and not that good food. The only thing that keeps bringing me back are the blueberry muffins, which they ran out of at our last visit! This used to be an excellent restaurant. I remember when I was younger how many people were waiting to be seated- lines most of the time ran outside. The food used to be fast and very good and the place was very family friendly. The last three times that I have been there, we waited over an hour for our food, everyone that worked there were rude and in bad moods and were complaining about the other people working there to the customers. Terrible and I thought they remodeled and stuff it was dirty, not busy and the staff was few and far between and the dessert I wanted could not be made because they were out of chocolate chip cookies. No drink refills, and the waitress hid in the back and goofed off while I was attending a work christmas gathering. I have seen restaurants go out of their way not this one and the dessert I had was old and terrible and not good. NEVER EVER AGAIN will I set foot in this place. SLOW service, waitress did not write down orders, therefore 2 out of our 3 orders were wrong, some food never came. I specifically ordered a Belgian waffle and got an eye roll when she brought pancakes. She handed me a bill for $5.56. I mistakenly ignored the other reviews on the "new" Perkins. My husband and I went in at 5 on Christmas evening. We realized that it would be busy, but have eaten out on other Christmases. Our first clue should have been 3 employees standing behind the counter talking with each other who took not one second to look up to greet us in any way. There were quite a few booths empty, but it seemed to be a problem seating us. The waitress wrote nothing down for our order. She had to come back to ask my husband what he had ordered for sides -- and then brought the wrong ones and argued with another waitress across the room about having grabbed the wrong plate. My meatloaf must have been baked several days ago and re-warmed each day. I could not cut it even with a knife. The waitress never came back to see if we needed anything. There was a considerable wait for them to bring the corrected items to my husband. There was no gravy on my potatoes, which I then asked for and it was not brought until I was finished with my meal (meaning that I could no longer even TRY to eat what was on my plate.) When I attempted to talk with the manager about the meal and the attitude given to my husband, the 2 stood in front of other customers yelling at us, telling us that we had been rude. There was no possibility of our being rude to them since neither one had given us any service. Needless to say, this place has been written off our list of eateries once again. read more
