Don't skip this place! Homemade food, large portions and tastes great. I had the smothered chopped steak: large portion comes with a side salad and potato, very yummy. Husband had the hot beef, soooo much food and the brown gravy was awesome. To top it off we both had the homemade pies, peach and chocolate cream, both amazing! read more

Homemade Pie...stop, re-read that! I do not even care if everything on the menu was average (which it was not), do you understand how hard it is in today's society to find truly authentic homemade pies?! I ordered two slices of pie after our server explained to me that every pie in their glass cooler was made by her aunt daily; yes please! I ate a slice of Lemon Pie for starters, then I had the Mexican Skillet for my dinner and I took home a slice of Blueberry Pie for good measure. The standout to me was the Lemon. The skillet was amazing and so big I took home half for dinner the next day. The Blueberry was delicious as well, but just a notch under the Lemon. This used to be a favorite restaurant of mine years ago. It still is now. I had not been to the restaurant since it changed to Country Kitchen (which was a long time ago!), but I recently stopped there twice. It was nice and cozy as always. The food portions were good-sized and the staff are courteous and friendly. Dining in was just as expected, and the take-out took quite of bit of time to prepare, but the food was hot and well done. Recommended for a small-town diner. read more

This WAS a pretty nice place I could go eat, and work on school work before class for 2-3 hours. That's as until today... I went to pay my bill and it was HIGHLY suggested to me by the person who served me that I should "find a library or something to do your home work at". I was shocked; never have I been asked to "go else where" to do my studies. I get you have a certain number of tables, BUT there were tables that were not filled ALL THROUGH the restaurant (even "my" section). I can assure you that server just cost this establishment a good paying customer. I will not be back there. read more

In town visiting again and got dragged here, so I was fearing the worst again, but I was surprised. They updated & renovated the interior since my last visit. Gone are the brown dirty carpets and ripped booths. Looks & tastes like the food got a major upgrade too. The beef noodle soup was excellent, and I would come back for the homemade onion rings alone. My walleye was perfectly fried, and my wife's chicken gyro was delicious. I ordered a "twice baked potato" and got a cup of mashed potatoes topped with canned cheese sauce, idk what that was all about, but the meal was enjoyable. A big turnaround from last time! read more

First time we tried your restaurant. We're from Pana & met friends from Springfield. The owner/manager refused to serve us a glass of water for my husband's service dog. These were 2 Veterans with their wives & a service dog. We don't feed her from the table & she's quiet when working. You don't deserve our business & we won't return! read more

Ordered beef tips. Suppose to "melt in your mouth". Waitress said they were excellent. The serving size was very small. Probably less than 6 oz. Understandable if cut from a filet but nothing better than sirloin. Tuff and overcooked. A total disappointment. The baked potato was small, cold and dried out. I couldn't even eat it. The waitress said it looked overcooked. She said she would tell the manager. No apology or reduction in the bill. Nothing, just the check. Im sitting in the parking lot wondering where i should go to satisfy my hunger now. One positive- the waitress was friendly, thats it. Find another place to eat. Note to manager - learn how to address your customers concerns when there is a complaint or dissatisfaction from your customers. read more

The other review is right. They do have ripped booths and the carpet is kind of gross looking this restaurant can use a makeover. However I will disagree with the 2 star rating, not sure how you can rate a restaurant by its biscuits and gravy. I will tell you that If you are in town on Sundays go try their baked chicken.
