A kind of cramped place so it always has a crowd. The prices aren't that bad for the quality and service. A lack of fancier restaurants around here in a town that mostly has chains. It's more of a kind of classier sports bar and grill. The atmosphere is pretty good because it's one of the few happening places around here. A place where one can watch a game and get craft cocktails as well as well cooked burgers. There's also plenty of meal sized salads for healthier options. It's about $12 for a basic cocktail. They have a pretty okay amount of spirits including whiskeys. It's about $10 for an Impossible Burger. We got these and had to choose our toppings. Also these come with a side such as fries. Pretty good amount of food for an okay price. Among the other items on the menu is fish. They have plenty of burgers as well as Po Boy sandwiches. On our cross-country road trip Diane and I ate here for lunch, meeting her best friend while a student at McArthur High School in Decatur many years ago. It was our second time at Coney McKane's. Known for its Chili that is only served in a cup size, I ordered two. It was uncharacteristically Pinto Bean centric, very heat hot, and very good. Then I shifted to a cool, very good Medium Chicken Pecan Salad with pieces of tomato, cubes of chicken, and small bits of pecan. My tablemates ordered Coney's Lunch Combo of a Lindy (half-Monte Cristo sandwich), Homemade Potato Chips, and a cup of Potato Soup; and a Lonely Horseshoe. The Horseshoe was invented in Springfield, Illinois and is an open-faced sandwich that usually consists of toasted slices of bread covered by a beef patty, French Fries, and Cheese Sauce. Have wanted to try this restaurant for some time. Finally got the chance yesterday. The lunch special was Fish and Chips, so I quit looking at the menu! Food came out quickly and was piping hot! I travel for out-state to Decatur for work several times a year and I always eat a meal at Coney McKane's. Today I had the El Paso salad which was excellent. The freshly made avocado ranch was especially good. The large size salad was almost too much but of course I ate every bite. The peanut butter pie was the perfect finish. Only reason not 5 stars? I'm particular about iced tea. Every time I forget that the tea is not good. Too bitter and not smooth; strong in all the wrong ways. We truly enjoyed our lunch here. The waitress explained the lunch specials and they sounded great so we each ate a special. I had the fruit plate, the fruit was ripe and delicious and served with chicken salad and crackers. One of the other specials was a taco plate. My hubby enjoyed that. Bosco sticks were good but the sauce was not special. Probably Ragu. Budweiser adequate, but not the coldest ever. French Dip sandwich good. others were impressed with their Gluten Free roll. Green beans had probably sat in the cauldron all day and we got the mush- though they did try with those- had chopped up some onions and had a bit of fat. Sweet tea was good. Worked in the kitchen and can say that they keep the place immaculately clean. I'd recommend the food to anyone wanting a good hearty meal.

We ate here on the recommendation of a local. Apparently they are known for their pies. We got takeout. The process was simple and easy, unfortunately there's no where to eat outside so we made our way to the park. Hubby ordered a Cuban sandwich with sweet potato fries, and I had a pork tenderloin sandwich with regular fries. We both got pieces of pie lemon for him and apple for me. The fries on both ends were a disappointment, clearly frozen and soggy. That may have been a function of take-out, but they were not hand cut, which I would expect from a restaurant that offers up this menu. The sandwiches were both decent. The Cuban sandwich had abundant meat with good flavor. My pork tenderloin was lightly breaded, crunchy and very fresh tasting. I appreciated that it was on toasted Texas toast, which is not always the case. The pies were a disappointment as well. The lemon pie was too sweet - - lemon pie should be sweet and tart, it's lemon after all. On the apple pie, the crust was under done though tasty, but the apple filling consisted mainly of gloppy thickener rather than apples. This also tended to far to the sweet for my palate. Overall we give the sandwiches that we had a thumbs up but we're disappointed in the pies and the sides. read more

The ambiance is always lovely at Coney's. Nice music, a small bar, and beautiful brick walls. It has a diner-feel but with high quality food. Their staff are amazing and very accommodating to everyone, no matter if you have an allergy or not. Overall, the restaurant is a local love, and they have plenty of choices in their menu from vegan, to gluten free, to just a regular burger. I really don't get all the bad reviews when this place is fantastic at everything.
