I brought in 3 dresses and each returned to me in worse condition than they'd started. 2 were still much too large (he seems to be a bit lax about properly pinning garments, assuming he'll remember later, yet he doesn't). He refused to fix one, did say he'd "fix" the other strapless one (that was still so large it actually fell down). When I came back, the dress was only fitted at the top but nothing had been done to the waist like we'd originally discussed. I decided it wasn't worth letting him try a third time. As for the third dress, I asked for it to be hemmed and was charged to hem the dress itself + 1 layer of lining. When I returned, the inner lining had not been shortened enough (or possibly at all) and was bunching up and showing all along the bottom of the dress. TLDR; none of the items I took to Perry Tailoring were done properly and all items needed to be taken elsewhere to be fixed. His pricing is inexpensive, but in the end I'm paying far more than I would have to have all of the items fixed. read more

I came in to tailor a bridesmaid dress and initially requested a simple strap shortening, just to adjust the fit without changing the length of the dress. I specifically did not want the dress hemmed. However, Perry encouraged me to also shorten the dress. I was hesitant and even suggested we start with the straps first, then decide on hemming later if needed. He insisted that he might not have availability later to do the hem, which pressured me into agreeing. Before moving forward, I clearly stated that I still wanted the dress to touch the floor and not end up too short. Unfortunately, when I tried on the dress, it was far too short. So in the end, I paid extra for an alteration I didn't originally want, based on his recommendation, and it made the dress worse. Not only that but when I picked it up, Perry mentioned he hadn't realized the dress had three layers and tried to charge me an extra $20- which I didn't pay. Extremely unprofessional. I started using his services because it was near my apartment but has become extremely inconvenient the number of times I have asked for a specific pickup time and arrived to have Perry tell me it's not ready. There have been multiple occasions when I have gone to pick my item up on a time crunch and Perry is no where to be found and is not answering his number. Asked him to hem a dress for me 7 days in advance because I was traveling for an event and he was not at his office during the requested pickup time so I am now scrambling to find a new outfit and frustrated that my dress is being held hostage until he decides to call back. So I have to agree with some of the other reviews. I dropped off fabric to have stitched for a simple panel curtain. Perry never completed the job when he stated, I went back 3 times and when I asked him for a discount for the inconvenience, he yelled at me and stated pay what you want. I did you a favor I don't even do curtains. Well than he should have told me from the beginning. I paid a lot of money for the fabric and after installing them they are all short and crooked, except for 1 panel which he probably did first. He also saved me when I was recently in a sticky situation. I had a bridesmaid dress that was too tight in my rib cage area and I was worried I wouldn't be able to be in the wedding since there wasn't enough time to order a new one. I have used Perry a few times over the years and was happy to find someone who didn't charge crazy amounts and did a suitable job. I recently had him hem and taper a jumpsuit for $35 which had uneven pant legs and pins left in them. I let it go. Now I just had him hem the length of my dress about an inch and he charges me $50. I called to see why such the big price difference and he suddenly got angry and defensive and asked me "why the hell don't you hem it yourself then?!" As well as stated he indeed does have inconsistent pricing and justified it with "workmanship". Perry's a great guy, it's true. But all of the pants I've done with him have opened at the seams that he sewn. It is embarrassing to walk around with a hole under your crotch, but it's unacceptable when that hole opens up more than once on multiple articles your tailor does for you. In addition, whenever his seams opened up, he still charged me to patch them up. My shirts did not fare better either. Went back many times, started to realize that my pant legs were of uneven width. Found other unevenness in my alterations. Confirmed by similar experience of fellow coworkers who frequented Pervez. Pervez touts how expensive his other clients cloths are. Which leads me to ponder whether he's work directly reflects the financial stature of his customer or he's messing up everyone's cloths rich or poor. Overall, this has been the best tailoring experience I have had in NYC so far. I brought in two blazers to be taken in at the sides and the shoulders taken in slightly at noon on a Saturday. He asked me whether I could come in on Monday to pick them up, but I told him I would not be able to, so he asked me whether I could pick them up four hours later toward closing with no additional charge. I called around 3:30 and he told me that the jackets were ready. The jackets now fit like a glove. I will definitely be going back in the future! He's the best that I've ever worked with (I've gone through quite a few tailors). He always has a great eye for what looks good on me but is always ready to pay attention to what I want, even if it differs from what he thinks is best. He never forces his opinion. He's very resourceful in how he approaches challenges. I often have crazy things for him to fix that all of the dry cleaners in my neighborhood say are impossible to fix. The solutions that he comes up with always surprise me and never disappoint me! Going over to Perry's shop is fun. He's a cool dude. He's the kind of guy that you would feel comfortable inviting to your house for dinner with the family or for parties.
