With all of our experience in boating, my family and I can confirm that Wateree Marina has been the best move thus far. Their owner, his wife, and everyone else who works there knows our names. And they all go out of their way to make sure all of our needs are met. (within reason) When our boat needs repair work, which all boats do, their mechanic Randy ensures it is done correctly. For example, I'll never forget one 4th of July several years ago when Jamie, who is the sales person at Wateree, came to pick something up from work. Jamie was already aware that we were camping at the camp ground across the river that week on our vacation. He quickly found us sitting at the dock with our boat that refused to start. Even on his day off, Jamie stopped to help us. He put a new starter in our boat right then and there, just so that we could enjoy our family vacation. The Wateree Marina has consistently been a positive influence in our boating experience, and I can assure that they will provide the same for anyone who comes across the beauty of Lake Wateree. Winter was in incredible time to visit, easy parking, a chance to chat with the staff at the visitor center, and walk around. The lake is beautiful. I've heard that this area did get some hurricane/ storm damage but everything needed to drive around is up and running! Make a plan to visit next time you're nearby. It's about 1 hour drive from downtown Asheville.

This park had an impressive visitor center and restrooms were open even after it closed, though neighboring water fountains were not functioning on a hot summer day. The trail I selected was rugged and had occasional waterside views, most notably on a footbridge that offered a mountain vista. Cell service was not great for me, and while I'd hoped to do a zoom meeting on the run I had to return to more urban areas. But if you actually want to get unplugged, the people on boats here appeared to be having a good time.

Spending time along the Reedy River in Greenville is such a special experience. There are several…read morebeautiful spots to sit and relax, especially near the Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville, and the bridge is a wonderful place to stroll while enjoying the soothing sound of the river and waterfall. What makes it even more meaningful is the history behind it. Beginning in the late 1700s, water-powered industries clustered along the Reedy River, including trading posts, grist and corn mills, a sawmill, an ironworks, the Gower, Cox and Markley Coach Factory, a paper-making factory, and an armory. A century later, textile and apparel mills were established along its banks. Unfortunately, the mills discharged waste and excess dyes into the river, and the Reedy began to suffer from the spoils of progress. By the mid-20th century, downtown Greenville's stretch of the river was so severely polluted by upstream textile mills that the once pristine and popular falls became desolate and unsafe. Seeing how beautiful and vibrant the area is today makes you truly appreciate the restoration and revitalization efforts. It's peaceful, scenic, and rich with history -- definitely a must-visit when you're in Greenville. Cheers!
