Nice campground, park and historic area to explore. Dogs loved the pre-spring walks. Friendly staff in the camp store, wood is a tick pricey. They have kayak rentals with all the gear. Camp spots are nice when they are nice, but beware of those that are not level. As of now #34 is a bear of a challenge. We were lucky ot is off season and got to move. Rarely do we have to move a spot, thankful they could accommodate with a small upcharge. Playground is fun, trails are good and it is easily accessible from the interstate across the Stateline in South Carolina. read more

Kings Mountain State Park - Nice large level lot. Many are not. - Parks Near Me - Blacksburg, South Carolina

We camped here over 4th of July weekend. Park staff was very friendly and nice. There was a golf cart parade, free to participate, the afternoon of the 4th. Our RV spot was spacious, but not very level. We did look around at the other spots in the campground and noticed many that required multiple cinder blocks and many more that required lots of extra blockage due to being not level to the extreme. The bathhouse was clean and in good condition. Lots of large trees in the campground make it nice and shady, but also make maneuvering a bit challenging depending on the size of your RV/rig and the spot you have booked. Photos of the campground and park were slightly misleading - we thought we could swim in the lake. After checking it out on arrival, we quickly realized it was more of an algae filled pond that would be appropriate for fishing but dangerous for anything else. The water was stagnant, not overflowing or moving down to the creek bed below which was mostly dry. Lots of fishing gear was left behind on the shore area with some fish hooks abandoned in places you'd probably be walking if you tried to swim. The building in that area was in poor condition with broken windows. Hiking trails were available within the campground but Kings Mountain itself is a very long distance away. We have smaller dogs, not up for that distance and we didn't opt for a hike that long to actually get to Kings Mountain. The town of Kings Mountain itself is a 10 minute drive away. Also worth noting wi-fi is available in the campground store only, and there is almost NO cell signal in the rest of the park. I had a hard time just downloading a kindle book, which requires hardly any bandwidth. If you're looking for a remote woodsy location and you are up for the challenge of a site that is not level, here's your spot! read more

We stayed here for 3 nights in our 30' Class A. The site (77) we were on was not level at all. We had to raise the back wheels off the ground! Scary! Also our fire pit and picnic table were unusable for us because they were located behind the MH. Our neighbors (who were very close on each side) had their fire pits and tables where they aught to be, right outside their front doors. We had awesome neighbors on each side, luckily! We also had the electric junction box in our yard so we really could've had some fun with our neighbors turning off their power hahahaha. The sites are much to close together and not very private at all. Most are not level and all are gravel. Which is fine except there are small pieces of trash mixed in with all the gravel. There was a lot of trash in the woods behind our camper too but we picked up all we could get to. The park has a good variety of amenities including bathhouses, playground, pavilion, pond and a nice store. No dog park. 2 dumping stations right outside the gate. I do not know if there was a laundry. Next door is the Kings Mountain Battlefield park with lots of hiking and bike riding trails. They also offer Equestrian camping and have a large area set aside just for these campers. Lots of beautiful woods to ride through! The Parks also have a living history area. We did not visit this area but our fellow campers said it was a neat thing to experience. We didn't do it because we have visited many of these types of venues in the past and it was Saturday and the Dawgs were playing! Go Dawgs! I didn't take pictures here because I just wasn't impressed. Overall it was a nice campground but I wouldn't choose to stay here again simply because of the unlevel sites. This place far enough to explore and close enough that you can spend whole day and come back, if needed. To enter the park you pay $3/adult. They have big enough parking lot. We were trying to get here for fall leaf , but due to weather and me being not coming sooner we missed it by 2 recent rainfalls. Still it was worth making a trip here. It is very peaceful, relaxing and beautiful. It was so quiet. Loved it here. read more

I stumbled upon this place because I was looking for a snow globe. I drove two hours out where I was to get here. I didn't find a snow globe, but I did find a great place where there was a lot of history to learn! I didn't wear the right clothing nor did I have the right shoes on and I ended up walking on a trail (luckily I had water!). read more

Not impressed with the campsite at all . We were only three hours from home so we decided to forfeit our weekend . We have a 35 ft camper rented site 63 . Nothing level about it no matter how hard we tried . Very small nothing like the picture or description. We would have been lucky if we could have got all the slides out . read more

This place become ridiculously stupid. You pay $6 to enter the park and I wanted to put the kayak in to just stroll around for a couple hours and was told that you had to pay a launch fee. Is someone going to come help me carry the thing and put it in and then help me get it loaded back up?? So what's the fee for???? The launch fee I found out is another $10 so $16 total for a couple of hours?? No! Will not be going back ever! read more

Kings Mountain State Park - Parks Near Me - Blacksburg, South Carolina

Kings Mountain State Park is a bit more of a challenge for a hiker. Are you ready to accept? What I mean by that is these trails don't feature the big ending on top of a mountain that signal the end of the road. These trails can stretch for hours upon hours at a time! Here's a breakdown from my own personal treks: Recreation Trail: This one is marked by Blue Squares. This trail runs 14+ miles because it not only takes you around the state park but also to the nearby Kings Mountain National Military Park. Though it says "Recreation," it's not for the easy-going hiker. The trail can get tiny with some small fallen trees you have to climb over and you will walk through a bunch of spider webs, certain things you don't find on more manicured trails. I turned back after four miles because I was tired of ruining spiders' days. Ridgeline Trail: This one is marked by Red Squares and takes you to the North/South Carolina border and will even take you to the Kings Pinnacle side if you choose to follow it. It's a beautiful trail but it is a long one for not that much payoff. They have a historical marker at the border but besides that the border is a thin trail. However, if you go past that you can find a small little side area that has some cool boulders to climb on. To get to the border and back, I spent a good five hours so be prepared! Lake Crawford Trail: Marked by Orange Squares. Though this trail is only 0.4 miles long, I found this trail to be easily the most pleasant. It wraps around the adorable Lake Crawford. It has so many places to park your rear and look out over the waters! Also, the trail ends at a small lookout with some benches and information telling you about how the entire trail was an Eagle Project by a local Boy Scout back in 2011! Awesome! To this day, it ranks among the top Eagle Scout Projects in the entire country! WATCH OUT FOR WILDLIFE: Just walking across the trail delta in the morning, I came across a pretty big jet-black snake. He went his way and I went my way. Keep your eyes peeled! PRO TIP: Don't come to this park until at least 10 a.m. It's technically supposed to open at 8 a.m. Both of the times I've been there, however, no one was manning what I could only assume was the check-in booth at that time. Normally, I wouldn't think anything of it but there's technically a $2 entrance fee and if you don't get there while they're there and you park, you wind up with a nice little warning sticker like I got. But yeah! Definitely give this place a try! read more

The roads have a lot of washed-out areas that are unsafe for trucks pulling campers, people walking, and kids riding bicycles. There had been a lot of rain, however there should not be deep washed-out areas. Some campsites had large rutted out placed where the water ran through the sites. There are many dead trees including some on campsites that are death traps. Campsite 78 has a small dead tree that would do damage to the rv if it fell. Campsite 76 had an almost dead tree behind it that is rotten at the bottom and two dead trees across the street that are leaning towards that camper and rv on campsite 79 is right beside a dead tree. All these trees could cause fatalities and total RV's if they fell. The bathhouse was never cleaned the entire weekend. This was based on the bugs laying in the same place from Friday to Sunday. Larger rv's could not get into the dump station (including us) for fear of sliding off the road due to there not being enough gravel and the road being muddy after the rain. I am requesting my campsite reservations back as this park is in terrible condition, is unsafe, and is not worth the fees it charges to camp. read more

Great working farm. The staff are great. There are displays of bread making, black smithing and weaving. There are chickens, horses a donkey and some cows. The kids have a whole field to run in as well. read more

Just took the family for a hike this past weekend. I found King's Mountain to be quite cool with paddle boats, lot's of camping area and a quaint little general store also. One thing that was a surprise was that there is an entrance fee. I don't remember the rates but it's cash only, so be prepared for that. They have a nice park attendant at the front gate that will give you a map of the entire park and answer any questions you might have. In terms of hiking, I recall the entire loop being around 16 miles but they have smaller hikes. We took a 3.5 mile hike to the visitors center and 3.5 miles back. The visitors center was really nice actually with historical articles to read as well as merchandise relative to the park and it's history. There is also an auditorium that you can request a viewing on the history of King's Mountain. It's a nice break from the hike actually. read more

Our 1st time here.Its only an hour away from home so its close. The park seems to be an older park and isn't well suited for larger campers or trailers...Many had issues pulling in. The larger lake has been closed for months while they supposedly deal with a beaver issue. My problems with this camp is the total lack of communication.The hours that this place operates are much different from the hours anyone mans the phones... I was told no paddling in the smaller lake by a friend so I called to confirm.No answer.. but they said to leave a message and they will call back..3 days and no call Back..I did, they didn't, so now Im here without my kayaks and boards watching everyone else paddle.. On the 3rd day I went out for some supplies and didn't buy ice because they have a huge ice machine out front that says "ICE". So I drove back to camp and they have no ice.A big"NO" sign above the ice machine would be great. No communication, poorly stocked trading post. All that being said, the staff that WERE working were great, friendly and knowledgeable. The sites , while small and close, were neat and the bath houses all seemed to have been redone and are awesome...very nice...But we probably wont be back... read more

This parks entrance was a little difficult to navigate, as you pass the sign and then realize you've passed the turn to get into the campgrounds. There was no one at the guardhouse, during our entire stay here. As we pulled in, my husband met with staff at the trading post, who were very kind and helpful. As it turned out the site we picked out online was probably the worst in the park. We were pleasantly accommodated to a delightful site, with a barbecue and picnic table. The sites are covered by tall pine trees, kind of giving you a feeling of being in a rain forest. There were bathrooms here, but we use our trailer, and we didn't go an inspect them. There are also containers for trash and recycling. There are two dump stations provided. We had a lovely stay at this park and would definitely return. Real soon read more

This park used to be a top notch place. Not anymore. There is a fee to enter. Being a taxpayer, that irks me. At one time, they had a small nature museum, miniature golf, swimming and grills at every camp site and free grills at the picnic areas. Why don't they have those things still? There is a bath house down at the lake. There was a snack bar in it. That place would be packed every weekend during warm weather. As far as state parks go, this one went from great to truly sad. read more

I have to say this place was beautiful. It's kid friendly and pet friendly. Some of the site are not so level . Just make sure you bring your leveling kit . All the campers and staff is very friendly and will help with any problems that should occur . But if you are not use to backing a trailer up please get a pull though. read more

Just went hiking here this past Saturday. Had no idea all of this was so close!! Yes there is an entrance fee ($2 per adult daily visit fee/kids are free), but it's cheap. They have a small playground. Covered areas for picnics (with electrical outlets). Picnic tables and grills. A lake with paddleboat rentals. Probably mor ethat I'm leaving out. There are areas where you can camp overnight with tents or park your RV. Was a bit hot and muddy the day we went. Will definitely be back when the weather cools off! read more

This could be a great place but due to poor management and condition of the roads and campsites it's not... Grills in sites are in poor condition if you have one. If you camp there you will be eating DUST. The dust covers everything. That's what happens when you buy bottom dollar crush & run. Tons of pot holes and the shame is they have the equipment to at least try to smooth the roads out. You can't sit out unless you want grit in your teeth. The camp host are nice and friendly. How can the State of SC let this place go down so badly? Good Job South Carolina! You should be proud. What a shame... read more

I love taking my family here...we like to camp as well as visit the living history farm. It's a pretty place to hike, as well.
