FOUND WHAT WE WANTED - While on a Road Trip with my Wife in the Houston Area, we stopped in at "Pet City Houston" (Bammel Westfield) and checked out their Dogs. We have been looking for one for our Schnoodle back home and have not found on via many 'Doggie Adoption Agencies' - which has been giving us a run-around for about a year. My Wife found several really cute and well groomed Doggies there and a couple of them were what we are looking for. She picked one out, a Miniature Schnauzer, all white, about 8 months old. The Employees there were playing with the Dogs, feeding them and caring for them. This is a good sign. We petted and held the one we are interested in and my Wife decided this is the one she wants. We both agreed, and John, the guy that was helping us, set it up for us to pay for and pick-up this Cute Little Doggie early Saturday morning before we head back home. We arrived Saturday morning and John was there a little early - and we did our processing and left with our little Baby Hairy Child. Everything in Pet City Houston store was spotless clean, including the enclosures the Doggies were in - and I checked out the store really good - could find no dust or dirt. Products on display were neatly organized and the help there were Awesome. When we returned home we had her checked out by our Vet, testing and examination, and he said she is in Perfect Health. They had 3 adult bearded dragons (on horrible substrate to begin with ) and the first two looked pretty healthy to us one Stayed in the same exact spot the whole time we were in the store we were probably there for about 2 hours it was quite literally on its death bed thinnest beardie I have EVER seen with a horrible case of MBD Metabolic Bone Disease. Is was very very sad to see I did bring it to the employees attention and asked if we could adopt this bearded dragon they said no and that they wouldn't sell it . Or give it up for adoption which means it will sit in that horrible enclosure until its death then be thrown out into the trash . That is horrible this was our first time coming here not to mention they had their bearded dragons priced at around $300 just for one . And they aren't in great shape what a shame .. I never leave horrible reviews but I can't stop thinking of that bearded dragon mine is not even one yet and is very healthy in a 4X2X2 enclosure. DO BETTER . read more

They had a big dog on the top of there cage and there was smeared poop everywhere, and then the dogs paws had poop on them. I would never again go here. and the prices for the dogs are unbelievable. I went here today because I have been thinking about getting a golden. They had one that was about 6 months and he looked to be getting too big for his cell (I don't know what else to call it). Like a lot of other reviews say, the dogs look sick or drugged. They don't take the dogs out either. That poor 6 month old golden retriever needs fresh air! Grass! Exercise! But instead he is miserable in his cell and has to go to the bathroom in his cell. Broke my heart so much that I wanted to get him out of there, but I refuse to give them my money and enable what they're doing. read more

Beware, I had to go through +$5,000 treating my puppy from Parvo. Pup was diagnosed three days after brining her from Pet City. Thankfully my pup survived after intensive care and is healthy now. Pet City simply told me that I can "return" my puppy for a refund, but how could any one do that knowing that she is suffering from parvo that requires medical attention. I also contacted Pet City's vet and they did not have a facility that offers Parvo treatment. This vet wouldn't even let me through and talk to the vet him self and kept me with the front desk. Look, I went in there without proper research and fell in love with my dog - ended up purchasing her and going through a very costly treatment. I do not regret brining her home but I would not recommend ANYONE from doing business with Pet City Houston. If you have the money to purchase a designer dog or any particular breed, please find a registered breeder - or better yet save a life from a shelter. read more

If I could give this establishment 0 stars I would. Future customers, PROCEED WITH CAUTION - if you purchase a puppy here they're more than likely sick. I bought a puppy last week on 9/10/2020 and by Monday 9/14/2020 the puppy was hospitalized because it was diagnosed with Parvovirus. This is my first time owning a puppy so I was not aware of the severity but from what the ER doctors and my vet had told me, it's highly contagious and potentially deadly. As I'm writing this review, my puppy is still currently in the hospital and fighting for his life. I've contacted PetCity and was connected to their customer service "solutions" team. Although they were friendly and polite they didn't offer many solutions besides offering to pass along my invoices to their "review team" in hopes of them reviewing my documents so I can receive reimbursement for these out-of-pocket expenses on a 9-week old puppy that I've had for LESS THAN A WEEK. To clarify, the staff at PetCity was very nice and pleasant but the fact that PetCity, the establishment, is known for selling sick puppies and they continue to be in business is unethical and whack. For anyone who purchased a puppy between the dates of 9/7/2020 - 9/12/2020, I wouldn't be surprised if you've found yourself in the same predicament as me. - In summary, don't shop here. If you are a pet lover do not buy any pets from this store. We bought a female chinchilla for $313 at this store on 03/04, and she was the only female left. She looked healthy. Chinchilla is not like a dog or cat, they need to put in the cage, so it was the reason why we did not know one of her leg had a problem before we bought her. On 03/06, we saw she walked with only one leg, so we checked on her leg, and it turned out one of the leg was very weak. She was not in pain at all, and she was eating and drinking normally, but we still let the Pet City Houston know about that. We sent them the message, and they told us they can exchange it. We brought her back to the store the same day. We exchanged her for a male chinchilla. Of course, he looked like healthy too. When we got home, we took him out, we saw in the carrier green and soft stool ( if you have chinchilla you will know their poop is dark brown and well-formed), then we sent a message to them asking if he is normal. They said that is normal due to diet or environmental changes even though he did not eat anything during the time we picked him from the store and drove back home. After few days, he ate, drank, and poop less than before. On 03/12, he could not defecate and no eating, or drinking and very tired. I contacted to let them know because they said it was normal when a chinchilla produced green and soft stool. They told us there is no refund or exchange, and their chinchillas in their store are healthy. They even sent me the picture of the food they feed their chinchillas. The picture shows the pellets have green, blue, light orange colors. I found out the food they feed their chinchillas is Kaytee brand which they picked the cheapest price of that brand for their chinchillas just around 3-4 months old, and that food contains Corn, one of the thing can poison chinchilla( You can look it up corn can cause fatal to a chinchilla). They told us if we think our pet is sick we should see a vet. (Excuse me? You sold to us a sick chinchilla, and you told us to go to the vet?) And right now Covid, when you schedule an appointment, it takes more than a week, some clinics even two weeks to get the appointment. Also, Houston does not have a lot of exotic vets. I called many clinics, and they declined his situation, and they told us to go to Emergency. We took him to ER All Pets Animal Hospital the same day 03/12, and Dr. put him on Oxygen therapy because he was breathing heavily. Dr. told us his condition was very poor, so they were not guaranteed anything besides send him home or put him down. We asked Dr. for some medication and went home with some hope. After got home, we tried to give him some medicines, but he did not even have the energy to swallow them. A few hours later, he passed away at 11 PM that day. Chinchillas hide their pain very well that was why he could last few days after I brought him home from this store. If you want any type of pets, go find reputable breeders or adopt them from a shelter or recuse. Trust me, if you buy a pet from a good breeder it will be the same price or expensive a little bit, but you will get a pet that can stay with you for many years. If you buy from this store, you may need to have extra money for vet bills and that does not mean the pet will stay with you for many years. I only had my chinchilla a week plus the hospital bill. Update: On 03/16, we found out they blocked one of us ( the one sent them messages) on Facebook after we contacted them. I'm writing this review based on what I have been through. Sold me an albino "African dwarf frog" and 2 tadpoles. Turns out, it's really a clawed frog which gets a lot bigger and eats African dwarf frogs, shrimp and fish (including Bettas). So basically all it's tankmates. Update: my son was attached to the African clawed frog and tadpoles so I now have another tank (yes I paid for a whole separate aquarium setup). However, I was informed that the tadpoles (which are still tadpoles months later) were BULLFROGS! What the hell.... I can't have bullfrogs in my house! Also, I look at my credit card statement and see I was charged 8.08$ for three 99 cent dwarf lobsters... I'm disputing the charges. This place is fraud! read more

In my opinion This place is horrible. My husband and I went in just to look and we were so shocked at the condition of the dogs. First off we have had a total of 3 English Bulldogs, got them all as tiny puppies and none of them were as skinny as the ones we saw. I'm no veterinarian but in my opinion I'm sure you aren't supposed to see ribs on these animals. Also, their area had not been cleaned and it looked like they all had bad diarrhea, which again - not normal. In my opinion The place also smelled so bad. I know this is a pet store and there will be smells. But the way this smelled actually burned the inside of my nose. My suggestion is if you want to buy a full bred dog find your own breeder and not a pet store. Unless they give you the dog because the way these dogs looked the vet bill is going to be expensive just to get them back in good health. My wife and I went in to look at ferrets. Found the pet store feeding ferrets cat food although they have ferret food on hand, what kind of trash pet store does that. The cage was not clean and was very disturbing. I bought 2 ferrets because I felt really bad about the way they were being treated. I will never go back to this pet store again. read more

Do NOT go to this business! They have inhumane practices going on. Dogs are put in small boxes the whole day and you can look at them and tell they are sick! The associates will deny the puppies are sick but you can see ticks inside their boxes. One puppy was shaking so bad and eyes looked very sick they ignored the poor puppy and continue led with business as usual. Their prices are ridiculous and the place does NOT look like their pictures one bit. My wife and I are in the market for a new dog. After visiting the local city pound and SPCA, we decided that we wanted to purchase a full blooded puppy. The next thing to decide on was a couple of breeds, both of which a phone call confirmed they had at Pet City. At my wife's urging, I looked up the reviews. I was very discouraged but we decided to swing by the store and see for ourselves. I'm not sure what the expectations were of the negative posters, but we found no evidence of the bad reviews on Yelp. We were helped by a young man named Jacob. He was friendly, seemed knowledgeable, and went out of his way to help us. He spent at least a couple of hours interacting with us(while assisting others as well) showing us the pups we requested. We left without making a purchase but it had nothing to do with the level of service or the condition of the animals. We just wanted to sleep on it. For those who said the store smelled, they have numerous dogs, rabbits, prairie dogs, etc. I've never been in a pet store that didn't smell like...........A PET STORE. So there you have it, if youre looking for a dog give them a shot, and ask for Jacob. You wont be disappointed unless you have unrealistic expectations. read more

I Iive broad and decide to buy a puppy while in Houston. Armed with the airline requirements for the dog to travel back with me I went to Pet City Houston. Shared all the details with the person helping me so ensured me everything would be in order. The first red flag was she lied about the puppy's age. When I noticed the difference on the paperwork she said just go to our vet and it will be fine. I should not have trusted her. The vet turned me down saying the puppy was too young to meet all requirements of the health certificate. Kennel's turned me down, so did all other vets. I went back to the store to get help and hold on to my Maltese for 10 days as I was traveling. THEIR ANSWER WAS NOT OUR PROBLEM. So did the "CEO" of the store, verbatim "not my problem". What an awful awful place. The staff here are not customer friendly and grossly misinformed. One of the employees told me I couldn't use my offer letter to apply for financing. When I called the financing company, however, they said of course I could use my offer letter as proof of income. I got approved for 2 loans. I live pretty far from this location, so I called ahead to see if it was ok to use 2 different loans. They said yes. After driving an hour up there, they (including the manager) said I couldn't use 2 different loans, only one. I found the staff's ignorance and incompetence to be a huge inconvenience and waste of my time. If you're looking for a fur baby, I do not recommend this business. read more

My sister and I came here for the first time to get dog food, the puppies in the back that are available for purchase (NOT for adoption, because I asked) are in TERRIBLE conditions. Diarrhea everywhere, these poor puppies were sleeping on their own feces!!! Majority of them looked sick! There was a beautiful mastiff that we saw that was in such a small cage, a little TOO small for his size, has absolutely no room to get up and stretch. They all need medical attention and better living conditions, I would love to see anyone say they would feel comfortable being stuck in a plastic cage twice as small as them and be forced to sleep and hang out in their own sh*t. read more

VERY SHADY! They will lie to your face and do not mind saying WHATEVER to cover for themselves. Friday, February 27th, my husband and I went in looking at dogs. I did not see anything I liked behind the glass; then the sales lady (Taylor) brought out some dogs in the back (in a laundry basket). We were informed the dogs had just came in that same day and had not been given a lll of their shoots... so they wouldn't be able to go home the same day. At this time they had no idea how much the dogs costed and said they would have to wait until 8:30pm (when the managers come in ) in order to figure out how much the dogs would go for. My husband hates the way the place smells and was not okay with just a "the prices are generally". So, we left our number they said they would give us a call. As we are getting into our truck a sales lady runs outside to tell us the Morkies are $799.00. We decided on a Morkie and put him on Layaway. The layaway agreement is very clear... your to pick your dog within 14 days, no exchanges or returns, and no deposits will be returned. TODAY! March 5th, 2015, a week later we go back to the store to get the dog and thats when they completely dropped the ball. THE DOG IS GONE. In fact, they had no Morkies left or no answer to where the dog was. It was obvious the dog must have been sold but instead of owning to their mistake the OWNERS SON says the dog died. My husband was extremely upset and saw that the man was lying. We were getting a different story from all of the sales people. The ones in the back with the dogs say they saw our paper work and thought we had picked the dog up already. The OWNER'S SON goes on to tell me that he did not have my name on the paperwork yet he had a copy of my drivers license, my phone number, and email address. So if the dog had died they should call the customer to tell them their dog has died and so forth. He goes on to tell us their were multiple dogs that had passed within the week and this may have been one of them. As my husband carries on in the conversation, the sales people become rude once they see we are not accepting this explanation.They questions us on saying why would they lie because it would make them look bad. But truth be told they already look bad. We ask to speak to the manager (which comes in at 8:30) but the OWNER'S SON says he can not do much more than what he can. We did not find out he was the owner's son until he was on the phone and my husband is listening and says why did you just hang up on your boss like that. He says no thats my mom. Then goes on to telling us FRANK, the co-owner is his Father. With him being the son of the owners I would expect a lot more for him in order to hold up the family business. He wanted to rush us out the store and was willing to say whatever possible to get us out of the store. The only thing he could tell us was the person who sold the dog would be fired. The sales people constantly talk on how the owners watch the cameras and any decent computer system would have a sales history to tell you what and whom sold the dog. It is no huge investigation or guessing game that needs to go on. Its a simple we messed up. Do NOT Lie and say the dog died. We later get the answers out of the sales lady Heather ... the owner is on the phone accusing her she sold the dog. She corrects the owner saying she did not sale the dog but she did sale a Morkie. In all honesty, I believe Heather as we were trying to sort through the madness on what happened to the dog. She was the only one whom did not agree with the fact they were lying saying the dog was dead. Sadlyl, this resulted in her getting off the phone with the owner, clocking out, and storming out of the store. Heather was the person who did the paper work for us and the ladies in the store remembered my husband for him humorous comments. It is horrible how they treat their employees and pets. These people are really more trouble then they are worth. I look at this situation as a learning situation. After reading the comments, I am happy ended up without a dog from this "BUSINESS". Everyone whom purchases a dog from here report some type of health problems and to lie and say a dog had died , shows that is something they deal with on a regular. UNPROFESSIONAL ! UNORGANIZED ! LIES ! LIES! LIES! DIRTY! UNTRUSTWORTHY! My biggest problem is they did not hold up their end of the contract and lied about a dog dying. This place sells sick and flea infested animals. We bought our daughter a rabbit from here 12/23 the rabbit passed away 1/2/16. If you purchase an animal from them immediately take the pet to your veterinarian for a work up. Bought a dog that has kennel cough. Stay away. When I called they would not reimburse me because I did not use their particular vet. The animals are kept in extremely small cages and not cared for properly. 12 hours agoNEW I purchased my frenchie on March 30th, 2021 for over $8,600. I took her to sunset animal hospital on April 3rd and she was diagnosed with severe pneumonia. I called pet city and they told me to bring her back to the store. An employee there told me the puppy didn't have pneumonia and that vets usually over exaggerate to get money out of you. They sent me home with the puppy and 3 doses of medication. That night her condition became increasingly severe and she could barely breathe by the morning. I then called pet city on Easter Sunday. Jerome from the solutions team told me to take her to the emergency room and that I would be reimbursed since the store was closed that day. I took her to gulf coast veterinarian specialists and they also confirmed that she had severe pneumonia and was in critical condition. The next day, (after $2,968.64 worth of medical treatment) I called pet city and they said they were going to call the owner and call me back. I ended up having to drive all the way back to the store in person since I never got a call back. Then they told me to go and get her and bring her back to the store and they kept her this time. I was then told they were not going to reimburse me like I was told. Today I gave them one last chance to make it right saying I would even be happy with store credit but it doesn't seem like they care. I do not recommend doing business here. read more

I bought my dog here over a year ago, it was spur of the moment and not planned I walked in saw her and fell in love. I didn't have my home ready for a dog so I chose the layaway option, so that I would have some more time to prepare my home and buy supplies. Dolce is a Cavalier /poodle mix and she was the last of her litter. After I left, I then read the reviews of how horrible this place was and how dogs were dying at soon as they were purchased. I was terrified of my new puppy dying, thankfully she was very healthy and still is to this day. The conditions of the establishment are questionable, I feel bad for the dogs that are there and it smells just awful, which pet stores don't have to smell like a puppy mill.
