Something has changed at Polka Dot recently. In the last 4 times I have left my dog here, he's come back with kennel cough twice, and come back with serious bites twice. I probably have been more complacent than I should have and stopped taking my dog there earlier. This last time, I reached out to PD to get an explanation of what happened to my dog, and was told I would be reached out to, but never was. I had been using Polka Dot for a few years, but it's definitely different than it was not too long ago. Sadly, we will not be coming back to Polka Dot, nor will I recommend anybody bring their dog there. read more

I had a great experience with Polka Dot Dogs this past week when I brought in my unruly puppy for his first grooming experience. $60 ish including basic wash, nail trim, anal gland, and pets, along with essentially day care for the day (normally $27). I dropped him off around 7am and picked him up around 5pm. He fell asleep in my arms on the way home so I think he had a great time. Groomer Anna will be my go to as long as I'm in Houston. She called me after she was done and we had a lovely conversation about training scottys. read more

This is the best place in town to leave your dog. The owner really cares and it shows. I wouldn't trust my pup to anyone else.

We've used Polka Dot for years for both longer term vacation boarding as well as single day doggie daycare. Our babies always come home clean, happy and exhausted. I love that there is lots of green space for playtime and also love that my dogs recognize the staff (and staff recognizes them), and they happily head to the back when we drop them off! read more

It so saddens me to write this review. On Friday, November 13 when I was out of town recovering from surgery, Polka Dot Dogs called me and asked if I picked up the wrong dog. Yes, you read that correctly. I had a friend graciously volunteer to watch my two yellow Labradors while I needed to be out of town for an extended stay. As such, I purchased a package of daycare days so that she could drop the pups off during the day while she was working. Here is what I understand what happened: * Two dogs, one being mine, were given to my dog sitter * The owner of the other dog came to pick up his dog and Polka Dot learned that they had given out the wrong dog * They called me to ask if I had picked up the wrong dog * I asked if they had called my sitter, who I had given Polka Dot Dogs her name and phone number as an approved person that could pick up my dogs prior to me leaving Houston * I was told that they did not have that information * The dog they informed me that was still at the facility was incorrect * We both got in touch with my designated sitter, so they obviously found her contact details and she brought back the dog she was told that was incorrect * The other person involved with this snafu then needed to follow my friend home to retrieve his dog This is wrong on so many levels. I provided a name and phone number for a reason. They should have been checking an ID to ensure the correct person is picking up my dogs. What if one of the dogs had emotional/physical issues that could have harmed someone. How can they not know what dogs they have at the facility? Both my dogs have been going there since they were pups and I have one male and one female so informing me that the male was still there and it was actually the female, I just can't comprehend... No one called me back to let me know that the situation was resolved. I called to speak to the owner the following Tuesday and learned she was aware of the situation. As an owner, I would have thought they would reach out to both parties to apologize and ensure that policies and procedures would either be created or strengthened so that did not happen again, but again another ball was dropped. In good faith, I can not recommend Polka Dot Dogs. read more

Upon walking in they just took her by the leash and started walking her back without even asking her name or what we were there for. After explaining to her that this was our first visit and she was there to be groomed she started walking off again without asking any details about what we want done to her. I asked for a sani trim and a light trim around her eyes. They butchered my poor dog taking off way more than necessary and cut off so much around her face. I really used to love this place. They knew my dog and always showered her with love when she came in. They gave her medicine when needed, fed her on time, and always did a decent job grooming (sometimes was a little lacking but overall I was satisfied). A few weeks ago, I had left my dog there for the weekend as my husband and I were going out of town. I got a call around 10am letting me know that my dog had been injured. They said they thought it started as playing and it escalated quickly, and eventually the other dog took a chunk out of my dog's ear - but they weren't sure because the dogs were not being monitored. They were calling me to confirm if it was OK to take her to the vet, to which I said of course. I am not mad about any of this. What I AM mad about, and why I will never take her there again, is that I found out that she got attacked OVER FOUR HOURS before they called me or tried to take her to a vet. She was sitting, bleeding, with a chunk of her ear missing, for over 4 hours. I was heartbroken to find this out. Sad to say, I will not recommend this place to anyone again nor will I be taking her back. read more

We are very happy that Polka Dot Dogs is just a few minutes away from our house. We do have to travel quite a bit so we use their boarding services often. It's nice that they have separate areas for small and large dogs plus they actually don't crate the dogs at night. When dogs are boarded they also get the day care included which I'm told is not standard procedure. The staff is always really nice and attentive; they really do a great job and pay close attention to the animals. We've never had an issue where our dog has been hurt etc. In addition to boarding we drop him off on Tuesdays for doggie day care since it's only $15. Our dog loves going there and he gets his playtime and then some; he usually passes out an hour or so after we bring him back home. We've used their grooming a couple of times; prices are a bit high but they do an excellent job and I highly recommend them. read more

I've been taking my dog here for almost a year. Fantastic people, and you can tell they really love dogs here. My first time there, I was given a tour immediately upon request and the place is fantastic. Giant yard for the dogs to play in. My dog comes home so worn out from his day of play that he just passes out after dinner. A real life saver for those of us with energetic dogs! I have also used them for boarding. I love that my dog gets to spend so much time outside. Most places just crate the dogs the whole time you are gone, but not here. They play outside as part of the daycare groups. I would recommend this daycare to anyone looking to board their dog or if you just want your dog to get great exercise during the day while you work. read more

Horrible Place Never take your dog here I left my dog here for 3 days and my dog came back scared, nervous, and a huge chunk taken out of her tail. I called and tried to talk to the manager and she acted as if she could care less about my animal. There was no report and the manager on duty was incompetent. Matter of fact they didn't even give us the right collar or all of our dogs belongings. I asked to speak to the owner but they wouldn't provide me that information. We were interested in boarding our dogs here for our vacation. We went in for a temperament test which includes a day of doggy day care to see whether or not they are a good fit for polkadot - Thursday. The next day on Friday my Shih Tzu started hacking and having a terrible cough. We went to the vet on Monday and was diagnosed with kennel cough. He is up-to-date on his vaccinations and Bordetella shot, he is just a senior dog - 12 years old- and is more susceptible because he's older. I called Polkadot Dogs to cancel our upcoming grooming appointment. I asked if this happens at their facility. They said it sometimes happens. This is unacceptable. They should be more aware of the conditions of their daycare and boarding dogs. Why would they accept dogs that show signs of kennel cough? I am not comfortable boarding my dog here and do not recommend others to do so read more

Love this place. Been taking our labradoodle, Ryder, here for about 5 months. She always has a great time and comes home sleepy (see photo). She is always excited when we pull up to daycare and we also get her groomed when she is there which is very helpful - they only charge us a half day of daycare when we get her groomed (New Years photo was day after grooming). Took my dog there for grooming. Bad experience. Then I took her for day care. Half day. Just to try it out. When I took her back to go play, she fought me like a wild animal to not go in there. I don't recommend this place. Besides the horrible stories I've read on here, there's still something wrong with what goes on behind those closed doors. My pups are new to boarding, and I feel extremely lucky to have been recommended Polka Dot Dogs from the start. We have an energetic boxer/greyhound mix, and an aloof/shy chow mix, both of whom were DOG TIRED after we picked them up from a Fri-Sun stay. Like most caring pet owners, I was vigilant in my research of the boarding options available around town. I was drawn most to PDD because of the outdoor area and playrooms, of which the cost was included in the rate. I can't believe other places charge for your pup to actually get play time! The staff is also young and energetic, so I'm sure this helps encourage the playfulness. The facility has a warehouse feel, but during my tour (given immediately upon request) I noted an acceptable temperature for Houston summers. The dogs in the all of the indoor playrooms I got to see were calm, docile and not nervous - I assume because of PDD's care to assign the dogs to play groups based on their individual personalities. I cannot say enough to fully appreciate the attentiveness of the staff to my questions and concerns. I will be boarding my dogs here in the future! read more

Polka dot dogs has been amazing for my family! I am hesitant to write this review because I don't want this gem to be overcrowded.... But I guesssss I'll share. I started bringing my 2 labs, T-Bone and Ziggy, sometime last fall to get them out of the house when they started having behavioral issues out of boredom ( I assume). It is pretty close to work so the whole gang just gets in the car- more like leaps into the car- and we are on our way. I have to remind everyone not to utter the words "day care" because the boys just get insane with excitement! When we arrive most everyone knows them by name ( we come once or twice a week at most) they are cheerfully greeted and escorted to their play areas. They always leave me in the dust- which hurt a little at first, but always puts me at ease!! Then I'm free to go to work without wondering if my pups are tearing up the house in boredom, getting enough exercise or feeling blue without any humans around. When I come to pick them up, they are always pleasantly exhausted. It is really hilarious! Sometimes it does get busy and it takes a minute to get payment squared away, but my boys are usually too tired to mind. It is so wonderful to have a place that I TRUST to care for my babes- wether I need to put in some extra time at work or get them out of the house and worn out for some reason. They love the socialization and I couldn't be happier to have some peace of mind (and a day off from dog walking!) when I need it. Keep in mind- on Tuesday the place is PACKED for their discounted special. I don't recommend trying daycare on Tuesdays- your dog may need time to adjust to the thought of daycare and it is overwhelming even for me! One of my labs gets a little weird about the doubled number of dogs, while the other one seems to enjoy the crazy stimulation. It also seems that my dogs don't get as much outdoor time on Tuesdays.... for the last few times they have come out to the parking lot and taken an "Austin Powers pee" before leaving. Love the place and the deal is great but for now we are trying to stick to other days of the week. :) read more

Our dog (20 lb terrier mix) has been going here for daycare 3-5 times a week for the last year. Everyone who works there is super nice and hilarious. The location is perfect for us and is right off of 610. They also have a big parking lot which makes it easy to get in and out. Our dog is pumped to go in every morning and is tuckered out at night. Perfect. We haven't had a single issue in a year. We have had him groomed once and we were happy with the service as well. We have not used them for boarding as we usually use friends or Rover for overnights. read more

I wouldn't trust leaving my dog anywhere else. I've been taking my dog here since 2011 when I first moved to the Heights/Timbergrove area. I have since moved closer to Katy and I still regularly take my dog here on my way to my office in Montrose - the inconvenience and 10 min detour is worth it. The staff genuinely care about the dogs and seem to know all the regulars by name. Their on-site grooming services is AMAZING. My dog is absolutely terrified of getting her nails clipped, but they have done the best job ever and my dog even seemed delighted to see the groomer when she came out to the lobby. My dog has never come home with a bite, a scratch, fleas or any other sign of neglect. The daycare package seems to be on the same range as their local competitors, but the $15 all-day deal every Tuesday is a STEAL. My Olde English Bulldogge was the first regular (I like to brag on her behalf) - and have since grown to at least 5-6! So if you have an OEB, bring em here. My Pagoda will love to play :) Positive signs all around. And a happy (clean) dog is a happy owner. read more

Our Sal (50#shepard mix) always comes home clean, healthy looking, happy, and tired. We have used their boarding services twice now for long trips and they were flexible when our international flight was delayed meaning we had to leave Sal an additional day. I like that they give a report card on his diet and behavior. Prices are fair for the area and I would recommend this place for your pet boarding. I can't comment on other services because we have never used them. read more

We used Polka Dot to board our two pointers, who can definitely be a handful, while we were in Europe for a couple of weeks. They were wonderful to work with. They took measures to ensure that our 12-year-old pointer was comfortable and that the 1-year-old got plenty of exercise. They were able to take our dogs on short notice after our original pet-sitter fell through, and then gave me thorough updates on how the pups were doing when I called to check on them throughout the trip. The staff is super friendly and helpful, and their prices are very reasonable. My only complaint is that they fill up fast for holidays, but that seems to me to be a sign of a loyal customer base. When we found out that PetsHotel at PetSmart has a very narrow minded anti-bully policy we knew we were going to have to start spending our money at a facility that is not part of the breed specific bias you see reflected all of over the media. I love that Polka Dot Dogs doesn NOT assume that our very well-trained,pittie/boxer mix is some vicious beast that will attack everything. They judge dogs on a case by case basis not by breed. We just started her on doggy daycare once a week. Truly, the best money we've ever spent and the facility is awesome, too! Most vet offices and pet hotels, even the really nice ones, smell at least a little bit like urine. This places just smells clean probably because it IS extremely clean. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff who actually seem to genuinely like dogs (tragically this is more rare that you would think). But the best thing is that our baby dog (she's not really a baby since she's two years old now) comes home tired and happy from all the running and playing she does in their huge outdoor run. (When it rains they also have large rooms to play indoors as well.) Their rules also make it easy. You don't have to call in to drop off or pick up for daycare. Pick up and drop off hours are 7 am to 7 pm. So, if you often work late like we do that's a big deal. We have been taking both our dogs here for over 3 years now. We love this place! They are so good with dogs and I feel so comfortable taking them to this place for daycare or extended stays. They are even really good with our older dog who is blind and has arthritis. I would definitely recommend for daycare, boarding and grooming! read more

I've taken my dog here on two or three occasions, each time requesting a tour of the facility. I probably should have not come back after the first time but I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. On separate occasions, I've asked to see where my dog spends the majority of her day and there's always an excuse NOT to let me check the place out. The excuses have become more absurd and it's EXTREMELY frustrating as a dog owner. Would you drop your kid off at a daycare without seeing the place first?? They're nice people but it really raises cause for concern when a place, where you pay good money to take care of your dog, doesn't allow you to tour their facility. For all I know, my dog could be crated all day when I take her there. If they're smart, they'll allow pet owners to drop in at any given time to check the place out. And they'll honor requests for a scheduled tour. I'm on the hunt for a new doggie daycare - where I can check the place out and see where my dog plays/sleeps when I drop her off. Surprisingly, I've had plenty of luck finding them in this town. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. read more

I am very disappointed with Polka Dot Dogs. I just picked up my puppy from being there for the weekend. They charge a $20 pick up fee for Sunday (the lady told me it was to cover for their employees working). When I picked up my dog at 5pm and looked in her bag she had not only the extra bag of food I put in there, but her food labeled "Sunday AM". Very upset that I pay $90 for two nights and my dog was not taken care of. For her to go until 5pm without food is unacceptable and I will never trust them with my dog again. read more

About a month before my husband and I got married last month we saw a stray pup in our neighborhood. Decided to scoop her up with the intentions of fostering her. However, after a couple of hours we knew she was ours. We already have two Mastiff mix dogs and she just feel right in with them!!! I thought we would be fine with boarding her with our other pups at our vets office. However, since we had not gotten her spayed yet they wouldn't take her. (We were holding off on spaying her since we weren't sure if someone was going to come claim her and we were also doing last minute stuff for our wedding). This was a huge stressor since everyone we would trust to watch one of our babies was coming out of town with us to our wedding. We did a lot of research on places since we didn't want to send her to just anywhere. Polka dot dogs were extremely helpful right from the start of the first phone call!!!! Since she was only 7 months old they said she could stay but they would need to do an evaluation of her with the other dogs before it was official. When my husband dropped her off for this they gave him a tour of the facility and talked him through their day to day activities! And when we picked her up, they gave us her report card! She did great!!! They kept her for the weekend of our wedding and when we picked her up on Sunday she came out just as happy as she always is!!! We will be getting her spayed now that we are home from the honeymoon however whenever we need to board all 3 of of our fur babies, we will be going to Polka Dot Dogs!!! You can tell everyone that works there truly loves dogs!!!! The facility is extremely clean and all the dogs are having a blast!!!!! For anyone who is like we are, you really never want to be away from your pups...but when you have to it means SO much to know that they are in a clean and SAFE place with so many people around them that really care about their best interests! Plus, they will be worn out from playing so much with other great pups!!!! read more

This is by far the best boarding/day care for dogs we have ever used (and we gone to several places in the past few years)! Our dog is always happy to go to this place and she loves all the dog handlers. It says a lot when I mention she gets to go to Polk Dots and she perks up. This is the only place in Houston I would board my pup and just love that they take such great care. Also, I have used the grooming services as well and our dog smells great for days! We have brought our German Shepherd here for doggy day care as well as boarding. We also had her groomed and cut while she was there. This place is great! It's easy to see the staff knows what they're doing and really care about the dogs. Everyone is very helpful and friendly. The owner is wonderful and took the time to give me a full tour. The facilities are also very spacious and clean. We left our dog here for 12 days when we went to Europe and it was so comforting to know she was in good hands. After a very bad experience in The Woodlands at a very well known place, we chose Polka Dot Dogs for boarding and daycare. What a fabulous experience! Dogs love it, staff is amazing, and they also carry adorable collars and leashes which both of my pooches are sporting! They also have the most amazing candles for sale! Worth the 45 minute drive for excellent care, grooming, and boarding. Highly recommend! read more

I am so thankful for polka dot dogs! I was very hesitant to board my chihuahua anywhere because she can be quite a handful and I was concerned she might be mistreated. I told PDD about her behavior issues and the owner was very kind and explained that they'd watch her and see if she could play nicely. To my utter shock, they said she did great and had a good time. Ive boarded her and my other dog there several times now and my chihuahua LOVES playing at the dog park now. It's obvious they really care and handle dogs well. The dogs were VERY happy coming out of our first visit. For me in Midtown, it's a convenient location. I also like that they have the dogs out running around and socializing all day. I have a big dog and a small dog---they were in separate areas during the day but then were put together for the night.. Really appreciate that the boarding dogs get to go for daycare while they are there for no additional charge---refreshing how the owners do not try to "double-ding" you for this---a super plus which will contribute to this becoming our regular Doggie-Resort for when I'm out of town!. We travel a lot and always entrust Susan and Polka Dot Dogs with our beloved German Shepherd, Arbie. Arbie absolutely adores Susan and she loves getting to play with the ther dogs (both those who are staying overnight as well as the day care doggies). Perhaps the best thing about Polka Dot Dog is that Arbie always comes home EXHAUSTED and ready for some log naps because she gets constant stimulation and interaction at PDD. Having a tired doggy is really nice when you're trying to unpack from a trip! Kudos to Polka Dot Dog and Susan! I would highly recommend them o any dog owner. read more

I LOVE Polka Dot's! My 2 very active puppies have been going here 2-3 days a week for a couple of months now. On those days, they come home, plop down, and we actually have quiet evenings! They really tire them out there and a tired puppy is a happy puppy! They go crazy as soon as we let them out of the car in the parking lot; this is really their favorite place.
