I was having issues getting a hold of Lotus just juicy venison stew for my cat, she's on a novel protein diet and my local pet food express has been a pain in the butt and said they'll be discontinuing the product - I started to hoard cases when I was told of this. My partner and I adopted a rescue today, and we came to pet food express to get some essentials. Samantha was amazing and helped us on our two separate visits in today (one before adopting our dog and one after). Every time I have questions regarding my animals the staff does a very good job on answering my questions and giving me extra information I would need in the future. My first experience here was purchasing supplies for my new kitten, I was able to get everything I needed with the help of an employee named Alex. Now I am back to prep for my new puppy and the sweetest employee named Kristy help made that experience a lot easier for me. I didn't know even where to start so I was a bit overwhelmed but she helped narrow down that process and even helped prep me for 4th of July which I had forgot can be a very stressful experience for dogs. I just discovered this place when I adopted my dog from Yolo County Animal Services. Great customer service! So much better than Petco. Samantha was really helpful with helping me find everything I needed. She even went the extra mile to make sure I had "extras" I didn't even know I needed, giving me samples to try. They also have a very generous return policy and made it easy for me to return the crate I bought after my dog quickly learned how to escape from it. I have been coming here off and on for a few years. Lately there have been more frequent visits(puppy). The two factors that put them over other chain pet stores is cleanliness and kindness. The staff are always helpful, greet you, seem to genuinely want to make sure you are getting what you need. The place is clean! It's a quiet environment with sparkling floors and everything is in its place. I have not used the bathing stations yet but it's always busy with pet owners scrubbing away on their fur friends. Another big bonus is VIP pet clinic is here on Sunday mornings. The VIP folks are awesome on their own but Pet food Ex employees make it even better. A staff member even carried my pup through the (short) line for me! She didn't need to and I didn't ask but she couldn't resist cuddling up to my black lab. They offered a cart but he's high energy so I opted to hold him. It was great and Angus made a new friend. ...wish I caught her name... oh well, the prices are not low but to walk into a pleasant smelling, clean, and friendly store is worth pampering your pooch (or kitty). read more

Woohoo! An alternative to Petco is FINALLY HERE. The store is squeaky clean still, and the employees don't seem to hate their jobs. The self-serve dog wash is great and free for the next month! I have used Pet Food Express regularly since we welcomed our puppy into our family in summer of 2019. I have always been very happy with them. I recently used their delivery services since my family is trying to minimize store trips during the COVID-19 times we are in. I had one small hiccup on the deliver process. However, upon my inquiry, I was immediately contacted by the store assistant manager, who personally delivered my order the same day. The customer service was incredible. They even gave me a bag of Benji's favorite treats in my order. I can't say enough how wonderful the experience turned out to be. Went in today to get some food for my chow. Store was well organized and clean. Staff is super knowledgable, friendly, and genuinely care about the health of your dog. They aren't pushy and respect your preferences when it comes to feeding style, but they are passionate about the benefits of a good diet for your dog. I do not write many reviews but need to highlight the excellence of this store. In one example, My dog had allergies and the staff's recommendations helped tremendously. But beyond this one example, their recommendations and care for my little beasties are above and beyond. They stand by their products and stand by their knowledge of animals in general. The staff are very helpful at this store and are very knowledgable. I buy cat food, cat litter and supplies and I like their selection of their cat litters, more variety. They are also really great with returns. I bought a litter box and my cat hated it, she wouldn't go in it. They gladly accepted my return and encourage their customers to bring back items that are not working for their pet (items that are returnable). read more

This pet store is awesome! Although the prices are somewhat $$, the staff is very welcoming and gives you space. Compared to Petco, the staff at Pet Food Express is very personal and competent. I feel like I cannot really ask Petco staff members about dog products just because they always seem 1) too busy 2) not around 3) maybe they are just working their part time and might not know much about certain things. I'm sure there are employees there that do know their stuff, but the overall impression is Pet Food Express employees are more competent. The store is also very well kept. I browsed around and then a staff member approached me. I think his name is Nate. I liked how I was given space to browse at first since I do get anxious when people approach me bc I hope they are not being pushy. Turns out he's good at making small chat and tries to get to know what types of dogs I have, etc. Then from the conversation, some questions sparked so I asked about what are good chew products that dogs like since both of us have labs. I typically give my dogs nylabones..but I feel like that is getting boring. He was very informative and not pushy at all so I felt very comfortable in trying out a new chew product (Himalayan Dog Chew). I will probably go back again to try other new dog treats/etc. since the staff their, at least Nate, seems super informative (in case I have questions). I typically go in knowing what I want, but I was just browsing today and somehow left with stuff (maybe I need more shopping self-control). I will also go back to bathe my dogs. I've been to a Pet Food Express in San Jose and I'm glad there is one at Davis. Washing my dogs at Pet Food Express is very cheap for the amount of time given to wash/dry. I can usually wash both dogs with one token ($15 for about 20 minutes) and not have to mess with clogged drains at home. read more

We ended up near Davis as a result of the Kincade fire, our two dogs in tow. They tend to be anxiety-ridden and were in need of a bath. Finding Pet Food Express was such a relief! Every employee was so helpful, especially Karen. She really took the time to answer our questions, provide an abundance of knowledge, and recommend products that we're sure will benefit our pets. The whole team had such compassion and didn't charge us for the dog wash. It's comforting to know that there are still businesses that genuinely care for their customers' well-being, not just the money. Who doesn't love a pet store where workers all love pets and have their own pets? Everyone I met here had been so kind in helping me get what I need after I adopted my little cockapoo, and they carry so many things here too! I love the range of shampoo and conditioner. My dog is a stink bomb because he loves to smother himself in filth so just using oatmeal shampoo doesn't do any wonder to undo all that filth. So when one of the workers recommends me the conditioner they carry here, I was very excited to use it! My dog is like a fluff ball that smells like baby powder after every bath and I LOVE IT. It keeps his coat so smooth for a week too! They also carry a ton of medication and supplements to keep your dog healthy. I personally got some for cleaning my dog's floppy ears, supplement to boost immune system, and some grooming tools like nail clippers and brushes. I love that they carry plant-based treats. The blueberry one takes like a delicious blueberry biscuit that even I would not mind eating. There's a $15 bath station that I never had the chance to use. I'm sure it's worth it to try at least once or maybe ask a friend with a dog to come along and split the cost. If you live in South Davis, take your dog out for a walk in the park near Sorrento and then walk here to get some treats for your man's best friend! Chances are, the friendly workers here will give your dog some treats too. read more

I'm not sure if it's just this location, but this store has the BEST service I've ever experienced at a pet store. First Luis helped us while the store was closing by giving us extensive information on dog food, raw, and CBD. Then I came back after researching (he was right about everything) and Samantha was equally helpful in helping me incorporate raw food into my dogs diet and they offer self service baths, nail trimming, and all kinds of affordable vet services on sundays! My wife and I are dog people and as being such we rescued a pomeranian that my neighbor had found the previous night. The pom was in bad shape, really dirty, bone-skinny and full of fleas (the most i've ever seen). My wife and I took him to Pet Food Express to wash up and didn't realize how dirty and how many fleas he actually had. When the staff there found out that he was a rescue they gave us unlimited time on the dog wash, towels, food and the dog trainer there helped us cut his mats out. They went above and beyond what any place would do. We must have been there for about 4 hours. They even let us use the brushes, flea meds...etc before paying for it. We ended up buying everything we used and picked up pet clippers to shave him when we got home. Val was super sweet and nice and really helped us throughout our time there. Gabby was the dog trainer and even offered to help find him a home if we couldn't locate his owners. I forgot the name of the other guy (sorry) but he was pretty awesome too. We couldn't find the owners of the pom, and had him scanned for a chip with no success. We posted ads everywhere and had no response. As new kitten owners we were s little bit lost on what to get for our new friends. We spoke to an associate on the floor and he recommended a few different brands of each thing we needed so we would have different choices and price points. I work in the sciences and I was really impressed with the level of knowledge the associate had, it was clear he wasn't just dropping buzz words to make a sale but that he really knew a lot about the animals and their health. I'm not familiar with cat supply prices but it did seem a little expensive, but for me I'd like to spend a little more to get good quality items and talk to knowledgeable and caring staff. read more

Went in for the free wash today at their grand opening (and to gawk at the pups up for adoption). My dog was freezing cold because the blow dryer air was really cold, other wise she smells delicious! Employees are really nice but pushy to get you to buy their high end grain-free this that and the other free $90 dog food, but since I'm happy with my dog food (costco) and we live across the street, we'll only be looking for treats and toys anyways! read more

Awesome store! The employees are extraordinary. I've visited for lots of different reasons, and each time the staff has been extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. They know their products, or they do the research. Today two of the staff took the time to help me adjust and practice with a training collar for my dog. I love the dog scales and often we stop by just to keep tabs on my dog's weight (I usually end up buying him a treat or toy, too). The pet wash station is very convenient. One evening my dog and I had come back from a hike to find that he was covered in ticks. I arrived at the shop just 10 minutes before closing time, but the employees encouraged me to shampoo my dog anyway while they were cleaning and closing. They also MATCH ANY PRICE. It's not often you find employees who really care about their customers, and I couldn't be more pleased. read more

I have visited several Pet Food Express stores over the last few months. All have been beyond excellent! Not only with the selection and quality of products but the employees are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. When I started my dog on a raw food diet the advice and help they offered made all the difference. Now months later we are dealing with some health issues with our dog and once again they are here to help. Brandon assisted me today with some concerns about my dogs dietary needs. He also let me know that if I needed vet recommendations that they had several. I can't say enough about this place. I'm always choosing between this store and Western Feed downtown since I live in West Davis, but I'm glad I went here today. Brandon, one of the associates, helped me SO much with my flea problem. I had no idea one of the natural carpet treatments required 5 days to sit. Then recommended putting beddings and whatever else I can into the dryer; that tip doesn't even come up on the university pets FB page where owners can share tips and tricks for college living with pets. And even when I asked about the difference between the Seresto collars and the Advantix treatments I already used, he didn't push for a certain treatment as a cure-all, just explained that the major point of Advantix was the repelling ability it has over Seresto. Even took into consideration that I almost never have flea problems with my dogs, it's just ticks that we get into while hiking. Hopefully this works and I don't have to return the remaining tubes. read more

This place is fantastic! I came in with my 2 dogs after a long romp in the local farmlands and they were covered with burrs! Not only is this a GREAT place to wash your dogs (deep sinks, aprons, gentle warm sprayers with shampoo, conditioner, water), but the staff really care and help you. One of the employees BOBBY volunteered to help me remove the burrs front hem with me. This saved me a huge amount of time. He was very sweet, helpful, gentle and great with dogs. The people here love dogs and are so helpful and patient. I can't say enough about how kind and helpful Bobby was and he removed almost all the burrs from my younger dog. This was a difficult task and even though this is self serve washing, he helped me for over an hour. He is a wonderful employee. The other staff also petted and interacted with our pups and they loved it and felt very relaxed there. This experience makes me want to come back to this place for sure for washing, pet food, supplies, etc. Bobby also gave me a tip on a great place to take the dogs to run in Sacramento. What a caring guy He was so sweet with the dogs (and knows how to remove burrs). read more
