I called the store and was told to speak to the manager who was in the next day. I have bought fish and a hamster through this store, and they all have died. The staff didn't seem to know much about the animals they sell. I had to determine the sex of the hamster from the internet myself. Often they don't have the materials you need like water treatment in stock. I can't blame them for the Beta, it fell on the rug twice, and the goldfish... they die. The hamster was dropped but not from a high height. It lasted less than 2 weeks. We'll take some of the onus, but that's a lot of dead animals in one year. The owner reached out to me which I appreciated. And seem very willing to help out so that's good. I appreciate that. I spoke with him and his wife they're very supportive. They heard me. Very impressive. So I'm gonna give them four stars and if they keep it up they'll keep the stars. read more

YORKTOWN PET SUPPLY PLUS is a customer service nightmare. This is your warning from me: they are happy to take your money, but consideration for their customers is sorely lacking. I ordered a dog crate pad of a specific size to fit our dog's crate along with a harness using the online order process from the YORKTOWN PET SUPPLY PLUS. It didn't take long for the email saying "your order is ready". When picking up the harness and pad, I also bought several other items bringing the total spend to around $150.00. When I got home and placed the pad in the crate it was small. I checked my order and found they gave me a smaller size than ordered. I drove the 20 miles back to the store again and requested the correct size. The clerk attempted to get the correct size but it wasn't there. So this tells me the inventory system as well as the fulfillment process is faulty. I looked for a comparable pad and the only thing they had was twice the price of what I had ordered. Given the waste of my time, their mistakes and waste of gas (another 40 miles round trip), I requested a reduced price closer to the original price. The clerk called for the manager who turned out was the owner. He refused my request saying he couldn't sell it below the listed cost. I rejected this notion and explained that his systems failed and this inconvenienced me costing time and money. I insisted he could do better after all he isn't an employee - he is the owner! He eventually offered what amounted to a $5 discount on a $55 crate pad when I had been after a $25 pad and had already spent $150.00 yesterday. He is not customer service oriented at all and I'd advise everyone to steer clear of the YORKTOWN PET SUPPLY PLUS. read more

I have ordered dog foods multiple times at discounted price online from our neighborhood Yorktown Pet Supplies for store pickup only to be notified at pickup they were not available. Checked the site again a day later and the same discounted dog food is still available for purchase. Another incident, I ordered a 40 lb bird seed for curbside pickup and waited outside for more than 15 mins. I can see the cashier from the window standing at the register without a customer in sight. I finally went inside to pick the item myself wearing a left boot cast. The nail in the coffin ... I purchased a dog food online and picked up IN STORE this time rather than wait at curbside. I mistakenly ordered the wrong type so I returned it the following day. Bag still sealed unopened receipt on hand, the cashier can not see an option to process the return for credit, sought an associate who couldn't help either. Finally a manager (?) was called in to figure it out. Tinkering on the screen for several minutes, he shook his head in dismay. So he decided to resolve it another way (his way I supposed). He had me insert my credit card and told me he will apply the credit, press a button in the screen and told me it's settled but can't issue the receipt. After waiting for several minutes holding up the line, I just decided to leave and said thanks. Four days later, I checked my credit card transaction. I showed up on time for my appointment only to find out the groomer did not show up. This was the second time this has happened to me here. Good pet store that has all the special brands of food. I used the groomer in the back for nail cutting and also the dog wash area. I am pleased with both and I have no complaints whatsoever. The owner is very nice and chatted it up a few times with her at the registers. Actually surprised the place got complaints. The dude that bought the hamster down below killed his own hamster by dropping it on its head a few times, those animals are prone to broken necks easily, maybe he should buy himself a Slinky instead, just saying. This is the only store in the area that sells the foods I feed to my dogs. The store is clean and well organized. There aren't always staff visible to help out and a few have seemed bothered that I asked or have been little rude, but others were very helpful. The only complaint I have is that their stock of natural chews is almost always very low. Empty bins are typical. Other than that, their selection of healthy treats is excellent and there is usually not a long wait to check out. I went to this store last night. I had a manufacturer's coupon for a free 5 lb bag of Nutro dog food any type. I tried to buy the food and $30 worth of dog toys. The young man at the cash register said he would not take the coupon. I left without buying anything. Went to Petsmart at the Cortlandt Town Center and guess what - I had no problem redeeming the coupon. This is not the first time this happened. Love this store, the folks here are really sweet and the prices are actually pretty much the same as at other stores of this size (store is about 3 to 4 times bigger than the smaller neighborhood pet stores.) So selection is bigger as well. Not sure how anyone could say anything negative about this place, never had anything but positive experiences here. I don't like giving 1-star poor reviews for local businesses, but after almost 2 months of problem after problem, I'm just done. Normally I wouldn't broadcast my displeasure to the world, but based on my last experience, it's best I share with other dog owners: We started going to them about a year ago. They carried our brand of turkey raw frozen food, and we'd rather support a local business than a corporation. We buy a bag per week, $125/month there. In recent months, we noticed we'd always get the last bag. Then, more frequently, it wasn't in stock all the time. This is when we started asking if there was a problem. After a couple attempts with the staff, who said they'll add us to a special order list, but still not having food in stock regularly, I finally asked to speak to the person who does the ordering -Jeff, the owner (but didn't know at time). He gave me a long explanation about how they don't like to overstock frozen raw food because there is an expiration date. I told him there's a demand for the turkey raw from more than just me, as it keeps selling out, and he should order more each week. Then he told me he didn't want to because he got burned by a customer who promised she'd buy lamb, he stocked it and then she switched and he's stuck with the product. (He kept trying to get me to buy the lamb since they're out of turkey -- ummm, doesn't he know you can't just switch proteins.) Fair enough about getting stuck, but I told we buy every week and the only risk is us going elsewhere if he doesn't stock what we buy. He finally agreed to do a standing weekly order. Next week - go in, nothing. I inquire, "Oh we didn't get it in this week, maybe next week." Ummm, meanwhile I got to figure out what to feed my dog. Next week -- nothing. I speak to Maddie, the other owner, and I start getting frustrated. I learn how they are one of hundreds of stores, and they don't get to control what they get every week -- that they can place orders, but it doesn't always come in. Well that's a problem with food. She promised to find out what's going on, she called me back to say they learned it's the company who make it aren't supplying the turkey kind for now. It took weeks for them to figure this out, instead of telling me week after week maybe it'll come in next week. Cut to her recommending another type of raw food that she says is regularly supplied. So we agreed to switch to a duck/goose kind. Buy a bag, do the transition with my remaining turkey. Go in the next week, buy another bag --it's the LAST one, again! Here we go again. Cut to getting home, open the bag, and it looks completely different than the first bag we bought from them a week ago. This time, the nuggets are almost white (vs. red like last time), there's ice crystals throughout, and it's one solid chunk. WTH? Look at the expiration date, and it was dated OCTOBER 19, 2017! We bought it in Feb 2018. Nearly 4 months expired. And clearly it's been thawed (god knows for how long) and refrozen. I immediately call Pet Supplies Plus and asked to speak to either Maddie or Jeff. I wanted to handle this discreetly to let them know they have expired food they're selling, and the food turned bad. The guy who answered the phone, Erik, wouldn't tell me if Maddie or Jeff were in the store, and he wouldn't tell me when they would be in the store next. WTH, again! I told him I am a customer that has been working with both on a food issue and I want to talk to the owners about something new that has come up. I said before I drive 20 minutes to go there, I'd like to know if they're at the store. He wouldn't tell me. He was like a bouncer at a nightclub. Are they hiding from someone? I finally asked who he was, and if he was the manager. "I am at the moment." Strange. So I told him the whole story. At first, he questioned if it was true. "Are you sure it says October 2017 and not 2018?" "Did you really buy it last week?" He kept telling me how they regularly check the frozen food expiration dates, and they rotate weekly. Well apparently you don't if this has been expired for 4 months! At this point, I'm getting mad. He finally agreed that I can return it (duh). I see him today, he checks the bar code to the receipt (as if I'm lying), "yep it matches, let me get you another bag." Ummm, no, I want a refund as I had to buy food elsewhere. He gives the refund and says "sorry for the inconvenience." Inconvenience? You mean sorry for selling me raw turkey that expired 4 months ago and turned rancid from being previously thawed, and almost feeding it to my dog! Inconvenience for the past two months would've been the least of it. Then I asked if Jeff is there. He said he's in the office, but I couldn't talk to him! He sees I'm not a bill collector, tax man, or a crazy angry person. Why should I support a local business owner if they don't treat its customers like a local? I ended up going to pet store in Croton that sells frozen raw turkey, and incredibly helpful. read more

I've been coming here forever to buy things for my class pets and 2 dogs, but will not be returning. When I walked in an employee in the aisle was screaming and cursing dropping f-bombs. I have a 2-year-old and don't need to expose him to that. When I asked for help with crickets, I was told she and her coworker were busy and had no idea how long until they could help me (they weren't doing anything). I asked another employee (the only other one and the only one working) who asked the cursing woman if she could help me. The 2 woman looked at her and just said "no, I'm not dealing with that" and went back to doing nothing. Told the manager, who wouldn't even come to the front of the store, made me walk back to him, and he said a half hearted "sorry" and that was it. The employees were extremely helpful informing me of the contents in each food and benefits of different ingredients. Plus, very good prices for high quality food. The store was extremely clean with a great variety of toys, treats, anything you may need to ensure your pet is as healthy and entertained/active as possible. I have been shopping at Pet Supplies Plus since it opened for business. I have found the staff to be friendly and cooperative. The food(s) that I use for my dog are generally in stock. Yes it is possible to not have an item, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. They receive their deliveries on Wednesdays and Thursdays and I have found that if I shop on weekends the items that I need are in stock. If I need to get an item on Tuesdays occasionally an item is on the delivery schedule for Wednesday. This is actually good and not bad! Frequent restocking means fresher foods with longer expirations. I have shopped other stores in the past and had to bring foods to the manager due to expiration date issues. Also, this store has employed people who had challenges that other employers would not have hired. Again they should be commended for doing a positive when others decline. Unlike similar stores that only have hired management present, this store usually has an owner present as well. I highly recommend this Pet Supplies Plus store for their service, cooperation and especially for their stocking process which ensures fresh product on the shelves. read more

I have been using PSP since they opened. I have 2 dogs and 2 birds and we recently lost our cat. One of the birds, my Macaw, gets special foods. Everything else I buy from them. The owners have been very helpful in pointing out new foods and items. My Lab, a male, will eat anything he can - including a lot of things he shouldn't! My female is a mix of 6 different working breeds and she can be picky. PSP has been able to steer me towards some great foods that she really enjoys. When our cat was getting older, he had a voracious appetite and was going through 3-4 full cans of food a day. The staff made sure that we found foods he liked and were helpful in getting items that we needed for him as well. In addition they have a young man, Andrew, that is always very helpful and will even help carry your items out to your car. Great products, great service, great prices. And they even have a "self-washing" station for your dogs. We have used that often after bringing the dogs to the lake. read more
