Our pup absolutely loves going to "camp" twice a week to play at Doggie Shrink! She is always so excited to hop in the car and go there. She has boarded there several times as well and it's such a comfort to know we can go away and she will be in good hands with Kim, Lars and the DS team! Everyone who works there is so kind and you can tell they really love dogs. We've referred several neighbors to them as well and their dogs all love it there too. Rudy is our rescue beagle/ coon hound mix. He was found in a box at a kill shelter and had been abused. When we got Rudy, he was shy and afraid of all people. We tried hiring a trainer, speaking to the vet and had him on anxiety medication. Nothing helped. Then we heard about Doggie Shrink and decided to give it a try. When we started there, Rudy wouldn't even get out of the car. He was carried in shaking. Fast forward 8 months, it's Rudy's favorite place to be. The minute I tell him he's going to school, he runs and grabs his leash. He can't get out of the car fast enough when we get there and runs to the door. We have also brought our other dog Sammy along now and both go once a week and love it. We leave them for extended periods when we go on vacation and it's wonderful knowing they are being loved and in good hands. Rudy is still a work in progress. He frightens easily and is very leery of strangers. But the strides he has made under the care of the great team at Doggie Shrink continue to amaze me. Doggie Shrink goes beyond the standard "room and board" of other boarding facilities. They make sure the dogs are not only fed and taken out, but well exercised and healthy. Doggie Shrink is the ONLY place I will leave my 2 dogs, Butter & Penny. They are professional, caring and attentive to all my dogs needs. Historically, when we would kennel the dogs, Penny would always develop a gastronomic issue within 24 hours of being home. That has completely stopped now that they stay at the Doggie Shrink. Our two dogs have recently been fighting and my boyfriend and I have been getting mixed in the crosshairs. Kim immediately had a grasp on the situation and was telling US about some of the things we were seeing, as well as explaining why it was happening. She was able to give us some great tips as to how we can help them. She goes far beyond a typical reward based training program of "tricks for treats" and actually offers you insight into your pet's mind and behaviors. Doggie Shrink is THE PLACE to bring your dog if you want to get back a happy dog that is tired but not wired at the end of the day. My biggest challenge is to teach my dog to stop pulling on his leash so hard because he can't wait to get into the door at Doggie Shrink! Kim and Lars are wonderful as are all their employees I have met so far. They u deter and and like dogs but also take the time to teach them so that they can fit into our human world. My adolescent pup still has lots to learn but I am confident that he will become the best dog companion he can be. read more

Doggie Shrink is fantastic! I have so many great things to say about them. Kim and her staff care so much for the dogs. As a pet parent, I am so protective over my pup and I care where she is going. I have spent so much time calling other places about their facility and have just not been happy with what I hear or see on their website. My dogs health and safety is super important to me while she has fun. I brought my dog for an evaluation which was one of the things at the top of my list while looking for a place for Rosie. Kim & her staff were fantastic with my dogs evaluation and were super honest and caring about her & her needs! Rosie has the absolute best time at playcare and I am never worried about leaving her there overnight or while i'm on vacation! I can always trust the Doggie Shrink staff to take the best care of her all day! Their facility is super clean and well kept as well! I also love how I get to see what Rosie is up to on social media! She's always having so much fun. Rosie also needed some training as well and Kim is the best trainer I have ever worked with! I rarely write reviews but felt compelled to share my experience with Kim Karlon the owner of Doggie Shrink. After much research finding the right breeder, we came home with a beautiful Havanese pup Alejandra. At 8 weeks she was adorable and sweet but soon there were signs of fear aggression. Having owned dogs my whole life I knew in my gut something was wrong. She was a baby, yet growled when she was picked up, and trembled profusely in certain situations. I knew this behavior was abnormal for a puppy this young. I reached out to the breeder and asked if he'd ever seen this behavior before and he told me it was completely normal. He said she was "very smart" and an "alpha female" so I needed to let her know she wasn't allowed to be in charge. His advice was to "scruff" the dog, yell no, and stare her down in this position until she diverted her eyes. I was very uncomfortable with this but he is a professional dog handler and well known breeder in NY, I made one gentle attempt and the dog was absolutely terrified. My instincts told me this was terrible advice and i needed to find a different solution. My vet recommended Kim. Undoubtedly she is the reason we were able to transform this poor pup! We went to the evaluation and after a few minutes of seeing the puppy she told us Alie was not an aggressive or "alpha" dog. She gave a more reasonable answer explaining that she was very likely dropped before we even got her. She was terrified of being picked up and additionally was not properly socialized. I was at a loss because we never dropped her, however when we picked up her from the breeder he explained how his rough and tumble 3yr old would wrestle with the litter and put the puppies under his arms and walk around with them. The story started to come together. He told me this was great socialization for the littler. How could a well known breeder give such bad advice?? I felt relieved that our new family member would be ok the moment we started working with Kim. She analyzed Alie at length and walked us through every step. She demonstrated how she came to the conclusion and gave explicit directions on how to manage this puppy's fears and behaviors. I've met a few trainers in my life but since Kim is also a behavioralist, she goes beyond "training tips" and really understands the psyche of the dog in the the dynamic of the family. She was able to read our family's behaviors and clearly point out where our actions may hinder progress. She is honest about the time required to care for the dog, and details what needs to happen in order to get the desired behaviors that a dog should have in their new home. What struck me the most was not just Kim's technical knowledge, but her unrelenting support and dedication to keeping dog and family together. A truer animal advocate you will never find! If you are willing to put in the work, you will find her as a constant source of support, whether it's a phone call or a txt. I can only imagine how many dogs were saved because the owner was finally educated with accurate and actionable information, which apparently is not so easy to come by. We had a very negative experience at Doggie Shrink recently. Kim evaluated our dog and then told us that the PALS program would be good for him and that she could help him with some of his behavioral issues such as jumping on guests. We told her that we also hoped we could board our dog there when we went on vacation and she assured us that we could. Once we payed for the PALS program however, it was a different story. First of all, Kim was very hard to get a hold of and took a few days to respond to my phone calls and emails. After his second session, my dog was terrified to go back to Doggie Shrink. Kim literally had to carry this 78 pound dog into her facility because he wouldn't go with her. Then when I asked her how he was doing. She basically told me that he had socialization problems and she could work on that with him but that it might take more than the typical 6 sessions and that he would have to go several times a week and most likely could not board with them. I was outraged by this and how rude Kim was to us blaming us as if it was our fault for him being so afraid. She made it sound like my dog had real problems. However, I know my dog to be a very loving and sweet dog who socializes quite well with other dogs that he has been with. I told Kim that I thought he was just fearful of being separated from us but she insisted that he did not have separation anxiety. She disregarded anything that I told her about my own dog because she felt she knew him better. She did not make me feel confidant about her being able to work with him unless we paid for more lessons and I therefore decided not to send him anymore. Kim refused to refund us for the remaining 4 lessons, even though she was the one who was not hopeful that she could help him with any issues except socialization. I therefore do not recommend Doggie Shrink at all. They rope you into spending a lot of money and then if they feel their training is not working, they blame you or your dog and insist on adding more and more lessons. They are also quite nasty and don't provide feedback unless you constantly call them. They should be honest and upfront about what they can accomplish with your dog and not make claims that they cannot attain. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more
