Out of all the florist shops I've visited- whether in Westchester's swankiest towns or in The Bronx's- even my local shop in Woodstock, none of them have blooms where you can actually self-select your own cuttings. You know the drill: you let the person know which pieces you want and then they'll get them from the flower glass fridge. But there's something about hand-picking your stems yourself. Petalos, on Fair St. in Kingston, hit that nail on the head! I met the man behind Petalos- who's bringing a whimsical and cozy oasis to the space. Brian's love of flowers is on full display throughout his shop. Whether my visit on an early Saturday morning was spontaneous or not, the succulents, house plants, pots, gardening items and loose bloom selections here are almost endless. The several stems I selected to create my own arrangement at home all varied in prices from $3-$5 He'd mentioned the names of my individual cuttings- but their names escaped me. I was here for one thing only and Brian made my day. My stems were gathered in a bouquet, wrapped in heavy duty brown paper, lined in green tissue paper and tied elegantly with a navy blue ribbon (with attached care notes). My visit started and ended in a high note. Everything about Petalos- from the wonderful and pleasant customer service, design and product, will lead me to repeat. read more

He designed all of the floral arrangements for our wedding and surpassed our expectations with unique, beautiful arrangements that he had somehow crafted from our indecisive and vague descriptions. My sister is getting married tomorrow! I had to pick up the last minute flowers today. When I arrived at Petalos and mentioned my sister's name, a delightful woman emerged from behind a curtain and told me she was still working on them, wanting the arrangements to be as fresh as possible and could I please come back at the time my sister had told her, maybe another 30 minutes from now? When I returned, the floral arrangements were stunning. Absolutely beautiful. And then another woman came and both loaded up the car with attention and energy and care: four standing vases, a bouquet, boutonnière, and a bag of flowers to be petals tomorrow. Boxes and plastic bubbles and strategically placed, all those flowers made it to my sister's home unscathed. And when my sister saw them, well they were more beautiful than she had imagined. This tiny shop is full of surprises. First of all, Brian (the proprietor) is AWESOME and has unbelievably fabulous taste in unusual blooms. His taste is extremely identifiable, and his extensive knowledge is extraordinary. From flower boxes to arrangements for events, everything that comes out of his shop is divine. Walking by his place, you may not realize it but when you step inside, you'll find a host of fabulous floral finds. My boyfriend and I got an awesome corsage and boutonniere from Brian for a special event that turned out to be better than we dreamed. Brian's flower boxes that adorn the area have created such a fantastic added ambiance to Kingston's stockade district. I'm also a tremendous fan of Brain's flower arrangements. Lucky me, being his neighbor, I have seen countless groupings of flowers leave his shop that are simply gorgeous, unique and extremely tasteful. We're definitely planning on having Brian put together the arrangements for my son's Bar Mitzvah next year, and if my bf pops the question, there's NO question who's doing the flowers. read more

I phoned up Petalos on my wife's birthday desperate to find something beautiful at the last minute (so what else is new?). A lovely woman took the order even though she told me she was working on a deadline for another customer. I asked for a simple dozen red roses. She said come back in a half hour. I went back in the car after a half hour, she put them into the back of the SUV, and said "They're exquisite! They're Explorer roses! I added some berries". I laughed, thanked her, and headed back home. When I put them in an old antique watering can and gave them to my wife I finally took a good look at them. Exquisite is the word. I mean stunningly beautiful. Just a dozen roses and some berries - but a work of art. That was 3 days ago. Today they are just as beautiful as the day I picked them up. read more

I've been a customer of Petalos and a friend of Brian's for years. I'm pretty sure this is my first Yelp review, not just of Petalos but ever. A friend of mine has been estranged from his Mother and not a day goes by that he doesn't mention, usually in tears, how this is slowly killing him. I suggested he should send flowers this Mother's Day. He's not in a good place and can't afford a meal let alone flowers to his Mom so I offered to pay for an arrangement. She lives about an hour away so I went to an 800 Flower place and ordered a small arrangement. This past Saturday evening I logged onto the 800 site making sure the flowers were delivered. They were not, I had mistakenly requested the delivery date the following Saturday. I called customer service and was told there is nothing they can do. I understand that it was to late to make the delivery that weekend but they would also not cancel/refund the order saying it was already being processed. I was mad at the 800 mega Corp but was more upset that because of my screw up the anticipated flowers were not going to make it to his Mom. I emailed Petalos that Saturday night, explained my predicament and asked Brian if he would happen to be working tomorrow, Sunday, Mother's Day morning. He replied 1st thing Sunday, said he was in the shop and could help. He gave us an idea of what he could do and my friend said it sounded perfect. We arrived an hour later and with masks and distancing in place he revealed an elegant, one of a kind, amazing Petalos arrangement. Trying not to trip over Thank You's we got in the car and headed to his Mom's. My friends family situation is sensitive, to say the least, so I had to deliver the gift while he waited in the car. His Dad, who didn't know me. answered the door. We slowly drove away, friend in tears, trying to get a glimpse of his Mom through a house window. The afternoon dragged on until I received a text... It was a screen shot of a Facebook post from his Mom's timeline. Her post was a picture of the arrangement and these words... "This arrangement is quite special to me. You see I've always emphasized and stressed uniqueness and defined symbolism as a meaning of true expressed emotion. When I received this arrangement my eyes became immediately fixed on on it's heartfelt message. I knew immediately who the sender was. To be continued..." He and his Mom also exchanged texts that afternoon, still do. Needless to say he was over the moon. I've tried here but words can't describe what Brian did that Mother's Day morning, Brian, your talents go so far beyond being a brilliant florist and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. read more

What a beautiful little shop.. with the kindest of gentleman owning & running it!!! My 14yo daughter has been expressing her interest in succulents, as we walked passed his shop he had many on display... he took so much time to explain and converse with my teenager on the care & display of succulents. He was so generous by giving my daughter some succulents that have grown a bit too large for him, my daughter is thrilled. She did buy one because she felt "bad" that he was just giving them to her... momma taught her right!! She came home to go scouting for moss to make a new display for them!!! By using a tool box she made in shop class a few years back.. It is the kindness and the time this kind man took to encourage my teenagers interest in growing plants and her love of nature and the abundance of it in the area we live in that you don't find all too often!!
