Had a bad experience tonight before they closed. The area I needed a couple of minutes in, since I have a new pet, was very busy. When it finally cleared out, two workers practically shoved their way through the aisle to straighten up. They probably have to do this duty at some point before close but they took a long time and were in my way, spent the whole time talking loud about random things. This made it very difficult for me to read and decide on pet products. :( They offered no help or greetings and made me uncomfortable and feel panicked. Touching the cans seems like a one person job Especially in already overcrowded aisles. The customer service was nonexistent. While in line a totally different worker was standing on shelving touching products in the same way... probably an end of night duty but it was very rude and uncomfortable while the line was wrapped around and full of people waiting and waiting. A very good location and whenever I'm in a new city the first thing I'm looking for is the local Petco. I was happy to find that there is one just a few blocks from me. It is a big store with a lot of inventory and white selection. Service was very good but it took them a while to find that some time to help me. I understand Waiting few minutes but not 15. At the end I took what I thought I needed and left hoping that I will come here when they will be less busy although they weren't that busy when I came here. I would return to dispatch go I just gonna do it in the earlier time of the day. read more

They never gave me credit for the grooming visit done days earlier. I spent over an hour in the store with a cashier that was overly helpful, but we had to deal with the IT/Customer Service department via the phone and she was only willing to give me a $10 credit. Terrible experience with the grooming department at this location. Highly recommend you find a more competent location for your grooming needs. We brought our Bernese Mountain dog in for a scheduled on 12/1/21 for a bathing/brushing (long hair XL $56.00) & deshedding deluxe ($40.00). When they brought my dog out I noticed that the hair between her pads had not been trimmed and asked if they could do it. They agreed but stated that it is not standard with bathing/brushing and that I would have to request it online in the future. I stated that I would have but there was no selection for that on the website. They finished and brought my dog out. I asked if they were able to get 2 matts out from behind my dogs ears and the groomer stated yes. I paid the bill and tipped $20.00 and left. Once home my dog started immediately licking her paws. Upon review we noticed that she was bleeding from 2 locations on 2 different paw pads and had obviously been nicked when trimming the hair between her pads. We also discovered that the 2 matts behind her ears were still in place. I called at 5:00 pm and spoke with someone in customer service and explained the situation and they put me on the phone with the manager. I then explained the situation again with him, stated that my dogs pads had been nicked and he said "I just checked the floor around the checkout counter and there's no blood on the floor so it didn't happen here". He repeatedly interrupted me when I was attempting to explain what occurred and when I pointed out that he kept interrupting me and I asked him if it was my turn to speak he told me "Don't get smart with me. I'll put you on the restricted list and you won't be able to come in here again" I said that's probably best and ended the call. I am completely dumbfounded at the lack of basic customer service skills, empathy or understanding. Stay as far away as possible from the grooming department at this location. read more

One star is generous. Stood for 10 minutes at grooming counter without even one person acknowledging me . Finally I asked someone for help and i was rudely told they were too busy to trim my dogs nails. I asked if they could possibly make an exception, i drove 30 minutes to get there, the worker rudely walked away saying no. Ill never come here again. read more

We brought our dog to get his nails done and had an appt already scheduled. He takes medication for his anxiety to help calm him down and they claimed they couldn't take him because he's on medication. We only give it to him to help them out so he's more relaxed and its easier to get the nails done. they completely discriminated against our dog. our dog has been there before and there hasn't been a problem. we will not be going back to petco again. they most definitely could've told us ahead of time or could have something about that for other people bringing their dog in. read more

Did business with the Canandaigua store for nearly 10 years, missed a couple appointments one due to a death in the family and when I came in to make another appointment, I was told they would not accept me any longer for missing appointments. I had to spent easily several thousand dollars in this store for food, grooming every two months, toys, snack, training classes and then they refuse grooming because of a few missed appointments over several year. I don't do any business with them after that. You should appreciate regular customers. Go someplace else. read more

My puppy is spoiled. I come here weekly for new toys/treats. The employees there are always pleasant. They always lavish Aurora with attention and biscuits. They have a great selection of all natural food and treats. I also take my puppy here for grooming. She's an Australian Shepherd so she has a nice thick coat. They do great with her. My 16-week old puppy was tied to the noose-like neck rope (standard practice?) prior to having the employee make sure he was secure on the table. He was NOT. Watching your dog fall off a table and hang from his neck is HORRIFYING to say the least! As if the first incident wasn't bad enough, we requested his nails be cut, not dremeled! You will find that blacklisting severely disabled clientele in snowy northern districts, for cancelling appointments due to harsh weather and falsely classifying no shows, will be disadvantageous to revenue. The worst customer service experience I have ever had at the Canandaigua Petco. Had scheduled my dog for grooming weeks before. Came at the time with many confirmations from Petco. Came in, was not greeted for at least 10 - 15 minutes. Some guy finally shows up and gets on the phone. The apparent groomer was rude and surly and took another dog before me. Said she had tried to contact me all week. They have my email address. I received nothing. Now she was telling me they were closing in an hour and could not possibly groom my dog. We just moved here, had all the documentation about recent vaccinations, etc. Rudest, worst example of customer service I've ever seen in retail. I suggest you do not do business there or have your dog groomed. Then I went to PetSmart in Victor. Traumatized by this experience, wanted to get treats for my dog. Greeted by the manager warmly and I said my dog needed to be groomed but knew we needed an appointment. He said, well come with me to meet the team. They were so welcoming and lovely. I shared nothing about my horrible Canandaigua Petco experience and came out to meet my dog and were scheduling an appointment in a few weeks but they had a cancellation and the manager said she could groom him right them if we could give them recent health records. We had them as well as experience with PetSmart for years. She took him immediately - he really needed grooming and could not have been more accommodating and wonderful. Taylor at PetSmart. It was night and day. She gave my dog an A+ on behavior and said her feelings would be hurt if we took him anywhere else. Every single person we encountered at PetSmart was wonderful. An indication of the management, the hiring, the training and who they hire. Every one of them were charming and wonderful. A complete polar opposite to our experience at Petco in Canandaigua. Horrible customer service, attitudes, demeanor, etc... I will never shop there again. I will drive far out of my way to not deal with these people and this organization. read more

I am more that appalled with this place right now. I made a grooming appt months ago for my dog. I've been making her grooming appts months in advanced for each quarter to keep up on the scheduling issues that have occurred through covid. I was supposed to bring her at 11:45 tomorrow morning and they just called me at 6pm to cancel due to "restrictions her groomer has". I'm sorry that she has restrictions but you mean to tell me these restrictions just occurred at 6pm tonight? No I call bs. I was nothing but rude to her on the phone and said how they require 24-48 hour notices from customers to cancel yet it's okay for them to give me less than 16 hour notice when they have to cancel on their end? That's bull shit. I will never go back here for any services on my pets nor will I ever go back to purchase anything from them! I've loved them and have done so much business with them but the lack of caring the associate had or sympathy for my matter is disturbing. I specifically made my work schedule to accommodate her appt that I made a month and a half ago and now I have to wait till the end of October to get her in somewhere else because they are all booked. I'm so glad my poor springer spaniel who already has long fur now has to wait another 3 weeks because this company could give two shits about my puppies needs! Was at petco last weekend i live at least 40 minutes away as i do from most business and they did not offer same day delivery to my location i would have had to order online which would have taken a few more days when i needed the item that day was told to put on a mask and refused for medical and was then told they offer other services well thx Sherlock i had no clue. no more petco products for me! I rather be offered to pay for something in cash not over card due to the crisis and i should not be forced to wear a mask just to get something i needed for my animals well being if you think this will drumb up business for you it won't. I like how my dog looks when she's groomed here. My issue is that it can be inconsistent depending on which groomer she sees. The other big issue is the time commitment. 5 hours for grooming is ludicrous. They either need to not book as many animals or they need to not take walk-ins, something. 5 hours is too stressful for the dog. read more

"Don't buy saltwater stuff here. They will sell you 2 fish at the same time that eat each other. Not good business practice." If you HAVE to buy saltwater life here ask EVERYTHING you need to about the livestock, "How long have they been here?" "Will they get along with my other fish?" How big of an aquarium do I need for this fish?" "What do they eat?" "Do you sell what they eat?" "Do they get diseases easily"? I've probably been to this location a dozen times in total. The place is generally kept clean and well-stocked, and most of the staff is friendly. I usually enjoy my visit. I have had some of the employees behaving like a bunch of gossiping middle schoolers, however. I've walked in to a few of them huddled together, loitering by the door, staring down customers for some reason, and finally getting behind the counter to let me buy something while giving me an extremely poor attitude. Not a single smile or greeting among the lot. I think it's mostly the cashiers who have been poorly chosen/trained for a position which requires customer service. I've only had one or two with a genuinely good attitude, and the rest have been minimally polite at best.Then there are the ones that are downright terrible, as I described. It's one thing to be unable to muster cheerfulness on a bad day, but to be outright hostile, that's pushing it. On the other hand, I have had good experiences with the groomers - the one who always does my dog, Jessie, is particularly friendly and always remembers who we are. The people who work the different departments - I've gotten fish here multiple times - are quite helpful and friendly, too. The ones I've spoken to have been able to answer my basic questions...usually. I agree with the other reviewer that this is not to the place to go to for expert advice, especially on the fish. You might as well walk into a Wal-Mart and ask for interior decorating tips from the guy who stocks the rugs and furniture. It's just not really what the store is all about, when you look past whatever the ads say in an effort to get you in there. Mostly they just make some of the specialty stuff available to you. Not many of the employees are there to become experts on anything. read more

I was at the store today and at the checkout looking through the glass at a groomer being just plain mean to her dog she was grooming, he was scared and shaking , she was yelling in his face and pulling hard on his leg to trim his foot hair, I was so upset I had to leave the store. Never do I see your groomers talking to their dogs and trying to calm them if they are scared. The employee should not be working with animals , I would never take my dog there !!!!!! read more

We got a female bearded dragon from there in a small tank with 5 other beardies. Their food dish was nothing but mealworms. No crickets nor veggies. Mealworms can cause impact to the bearded dragons stomach. Today was her second bath and she was so backed up for a baby beardie it was ridiculous. read more
