I recently visited the Petco store in Chapel Hill NC. I was shocked to see that this store sells live creatures: birds, reptiles, guinea pigs, fish, turtles, ferrets, etc. I cannot believe living creatures are still be sold for profit in the year 2024. It's so sad, disgusting and an unfortunate realization that profit comes before a living creature's well being and natural right to be free. The staff was very supportive and got me the info I needed to contact Petco customer service. There was one exception though; one staff person said, "It is what it is". Unfortunately I think the Petco company shares that staff person's opinion. I will not return to support this companies mission to profit at all cost. I took my pup for a much needed summer haircut and my experience was impeccable! Theo was so knowledgeable and comforting for my sweet boy. He explained to me the different lengths and what he was going to do and how long it would take. He took the time to get to know Gator & comfort him before he took him back! When I got Gator back 2 hours later, he looked amazing! He was super soft, had a great haircut everywhere, and smelled amazing. Theo again took the time to explain what he did and how Gator was during the process. I could not be more pleased! Definitely going back to see Theo soon! read more

For YEARS, I went to Petco, thinking them leaving a 2" dew claw on my dog was "normal" for my dog, with them telling me "Oh you'll need to come back every two weeks to have that taken care of." LIES, ALL LIES. I found a place in Lakeland, FL yesterday and it took them literally 3 or 4 minutes, for half the price and guess who's nails are now less than a half inch? Oh there's no guess really - it's my dog, with normal looking nails and normal looking dew claws. My dog has been in agony FOR YEARS because of Petco. SHOP AROUND, FOLKS. GO SOMEWHERE REPUTABLE, because it is NOT here! I am so ashamed I ever went to Petco in the first place. read more

I've been coming to this location for a few months now to pop in for aquarium fish, shrimp, and snails. I totally understand we're in covid times and staffing is probably light. No biggie completely appropriate for the times, HOWEVER today I had THE LAST poor customer service experience I could handle. Enough that I am now writing a review about it. Multiple times when I have asked to be helped in the department I have been "helped" by the same women. As of today she has blue hair but didn't have a name tag on. She barely engaged with me and she was very obviously annoyed she had to stop unpacking a shipment and come over. While she was getting some snails for me I was telling her about a small corydora I saw that I'd like to take home but couldn't find him again. I said this twice to her. Zero response. Didn't even look for him or act like I'd even said anything. At the same time another employee Ryan came over to talk to my dog. Blue hair lady handed me my bag of snails and plant and just walked away. No, " is there anything else you need"...nothing. She needs to be checked. I get it everyone has a bad day but this is more than three occasions now where she's simply just being sh*tty at her job. Ryan however saved the day by finding and securing the little panda cory and is the only reason for the 2 stars. I will 1000% be driving to Cary from now on, where everyone is enthusiastic to DO THEIR JOB. read more

NEVER EVER AGAIN. This Petco's "experienced groomers" have no idea what they are doing. My dog was so stressed when I brought him home I could tell they clearly have no idea how to handle a dog. He does not like his nails trimmed. That's a given. But he is the sweetest sweetest dog ever and responds to sweetness in return. Would never ever bite someone so that's not even the issue. They just don't know what they are doing. So the Grooming Manager calls me and tells me Buddy is ready for pickup She is the one I made the appointment with and did the work. NO MENTION AT ALL that she couldn't get his front nails trimmed. I walk into the grooming area and tell them I will go ahead and pay the bill up front first. STILL NO MENTION about Buddy's nails not being done. THEN I go back to pick up my dog and the manager's assistant, NOT THE MANAGER who did the job, tells me he was thrashing too much. What? You have two "experienced groomers" and you still can't handle a nail trim???? HORRIBLE HORRIBLE customer service. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG THERE. You will just stress them out. An experienced groomer can handle a nail trim. PETCO WAKE UP. If you want to offer grooming services hire professionals, pay them well and make sure you keep them. NEVER. EVER. AGAIN read more

An amazing pet store! Nice and clean, and everything is organized well. It's not hard to find what you're looking for since the shelves are kept neat. The employees were super helpful and patient when I was looking for some organic treats for my dogs. Christine, who was helping me, was very knowledgeable about the different brands and the advantages of one type of treat vs another type. I was happy with my purchase because I was confident that it was right for my dogs. She and her coworker also knew some great tips for training one of my dogs (he's a barker) that I really appreciated. Overall, a great shopping experience! read more

IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET DO NOT TAKE THEM TO THE GROOMERS AT PETCO. I had a morning appointment for my senior dog for a bath and nail trim and was told it would be about 90 minutes. After not hearing from the store for 2-1/2 hours I drove over there. I was told he was not finished as they had a lot of walk-ins that day. Walk-ins take priority over appointments and my poor sweet boy was made to wait over and over while they took care of walk-ins. I found him tied so closely and so tightly to the wall he was not even able to put his head down but rather sit for however long they made him wait with his head cinched up against the wall with a collar so tight there was no slipping your fingers between it and my dogs neck. He also obtained a broken nail during this entire ordeal, exposing the quick. I had entrusted my sweet sweet boy to their care and they completely broke that trust and neglected him in such a cruel way. I have reported this to Petco corporate offices as well as Orange County animal services. read more

This Petco has the cleanest animals houses that I have ever seen. It is really comforting to know that the animals there get the best care. If you go there ask for Elizabeth, she is the animal care taker and is an expert regarding dogs and many other animals. This Petco is fantastic. I visit on a weekly basis and almost every associate knows my dogs and me. The associates take the time to sit down and play with my dogs, who benefit from the extra socialization. I have also been taking my dogs to training at Petco. Whitney is an awesome trainer! She has done great work with my small, reactive terrier. She designs activities to help build my dog's confidence and has shared (positive) strategies to help reduce barking. read more

Worst haircut of my dog's ten years! Our adorable cavachon came out looking like a neglected shelter dog. Groomer claimed that he was matted (he was only a bit matted at the base of his tail and a bit tangled around his beard) but in fact was not skilled enough (or just didn't care enough) to take the time to groom him properly. I should have rescheduled when we arrived and the groomer told me he didn't have time for a full cut (the appointment was for a full cut). In fact, I should have just turned around and not come back. He even shaved off the poor dog's tail - something that no groomer has ever done, even when he was matted. $52 wasted and the first and last time our dog will ever be groomed there. Took my 5 month old Australian Shepherd in to get groomed today for the first time. Asked Suzanne for just a trim. She showed us the board to pick off of and we chose the option that looked like it would just be a trim. A couple hours later I'm picking up my dog and she is basically completely shaved. Doesn't look anything like we wanted and I didn't even recognize my once beautiful dog. I'm not sure what Suzanne was thinking but definitely will not be letting her back near my dog with anything sharp. read more

I went into Petco last week with my 9 month old puppy and we were greeted by a sales associate. He played with my dog and we were chatting about his behavior. I mentioned that I was trying to teach him to walk on a leash because he is STRONG, the associate immediately recommended a harness that attaches to the leash on their chest instead of on the back or neck. He said it was store policy to let people try collars/harnesses/etc before buying them, so we slipped the harness on and walked around the store. Almost immediately, my dogs behavior changed because when he pulls the harness forces him to turn around towards me. I've been using the harness for a week now and I swear I left petco with a different dog! He walks so calmly and almost never pulls. I appreciate the employees taking time to learn about my issues and suggest products to help resolve those issues. Plus my dog peed twice while we were in the store (he's going through the marking his territory state even though he's potty trained ) and they were so gracious about it! I took my four pound Yorkie here to get groomed and they couldn't clip her nails because "she moved too much". She's 4 pounds, how hard is it to restrain her to cut her nails?! We never have had that problem anywhere. Plus her hair cut isn't even at all. We will not be bringing her back. read more

I took my schnoodle for grooming and they did a terrible job. First, it took them nearly all day. When we finally took her home, we noticed how uneven the cut was. There were long bunches if hair sticking out, and her face is totally uneven. My dog was also anxious and stressed, as she has been there for so many hours.
