I needed to buy a new litter box, so I stopped by this Petco. As soon as you walk in, you're hit with this terrible, strong ammonia smell. It's soooo bad! The store is very spacious. Chances are they probably have what you're looking for, or you can order it on their website and pick it up for free in store. The 2 employees who helped me were very friendly. The store just has to do something about that odor. I've been in plenty of pet stores before. None ever smelled this bad. Petco has friendly staff and amazing cookie bar for dog treats. I however was a little shocked in regards to the markup. We were looking for a dog crate which should not cost much it is just Steel and Stealing is cheap. They were over $200 and on Craigslist you can get one for $20. read more

Went to Petco today for a beta fish and was tormented by the employees for a hour. They did not allow me to purchase a beta fish because they were concerned about the fish not receiving the proper care. They keep their betas in tiny cups and told me that most of them die quite fast in those cups. I told them if that is the case the fish would probably be happier in our bowl than they are in the cups. They even sell fish bowls there but you aren't allowed to put fish in them...Super rude and disrespectful and I had to listen to an hour lecture about proper beta fish care when they literally keep their beta fish in cups. I don't know the ladies name that helped me yesterday, but she was absolutely wonderful!! I was adopting a guinea pig, she was asking me some questions, giving some pointers, and was just overall so friendly during the whole interaction. I have had a guinea pig before and felt confident in what I knew about proper care, but she really helped me to learn a few extra things, forever grateful for this interaction! I know some people can get upset with employees asking questions to customers when it comes to proper care, and denying adoptions, but I think that it's wonderful to know that the animals aren't just being given to any home, and that they do their diligence to make sure the new pet owner knows how to properly care for the animal and what's expected. This Petco seems to value making sure they know the animals are going to a proper home. Although I don't agree with them selling tanks and cages that aren't actually what the species need to live happy lives, that's not the employees faults. This location of Petco is located on the site of what used to be the Tri-City Mall. What was a dated and run down strip complex is now a new modern shopping center. The storefront is easy to see from East Bay. We were told that this location has only been open approximately 6 weeks. The store was well stocked, brand new and spotless. There was a dog training going class being conducted at the time that we were there. The marine area was well stocked and clean. We walked around and were greeted by their friendly employees. We have been shopping at one of the other large chain pet stores. However, we prefer this one. If you have the chance, drop by and check them out. read more

I really like this Petco. The only reason for 4 stars versus 5 is because it's smaller than most other Petco stores. Their staff is friendly and the store is clean. Although I have noticed on a few occasions that the staff of more interested in chatting amongst themselves on the floor than helping customers. Honestly that's fine by me, I'd rather not be hounded with "are you finding everything ok" 100 times while I'm shopping. They have a cute little doggy treat buffet that you can pick and choose from based on your fur kid's tastebuds. These treats are charged by the pound and very reasonably priced too. My boy likes the mint flavored stars and moons, one of the staff members recommended that flavor as a pooch favorite and she was right! The brand variety is decent, although I recently started feeding my dog Fromm which unfortunately is not carried here. The location is convenient. read more

This is my local store, one that is convenient, they offer a service preformed by a professional, a grooming service, just as if at a restaurant and being waited on by a service professional, I am allowed to use my credit card to tip my service provider. In fact everyone we met here at this location was so kind. This is a great Petco! Awesome experience every time. Dave grooms our cat Manny, and he does an exceptional job every time. Jon checked us out, and he went above and beyond to provide excellent customer service. But more than anything, all of the employees here, especially Dave and Jon, go out of their way to make my cat feel comfortable and to make us feel like valued customers. They love our cat and treat him like they would their own, and it makes all the difference. We've been to a few pet stores for grooming before and have never been treated like we are here. We signed our dog up for training classes (Levels 1, 2, & AKC) at the Pinellas Park store, only for them to later tell us we had to take our dog to the East Bay Dr. location because they didn't have a dog trainer at Pinellas Park anymore. Well this turned out to be a blessing, because Pamela has been an amazing resource as well as a wonderful trainer. She has helped us to better understand our rescued dog, and she truly has a heart for all creatures great and small. Our Teddy has learned a lot, and is so much more manageable now. We appreciate Pamela and highly recommend her to anyone who is considering dog training. She's definitely worth the drive for us and for Teddy! read more

This review is not for the store itself, but for the dog trainer, Pamela, that runs the classes. She is wonderfully energetic and positive. She listens closely when I have had a training concern while working at home, and really seeks to help overcome the problem, or reinforce in the class what we could work on later. A friend of mine took this precious dog that we have had for over a year now to this groomer instead of the last groomer and what a mistake. At first she thought it was just the fact they shaved her ears. She have never been to a groomer who had to shave her ears but then she noticed it was much worse than that as she has a SPR around her eye and on her nose that the emergency vet said is from razor burn from the cut. Let's look past the fact that the cut itself is horrible based on every other grooming visit she has ever been to but to see her bleeding is heart breaking. Now, to be fair, the manager (Dave) took my first call and handled it very professionally and immediately suggested the animal hospital to go to and covered the $400 bill which is exactly what should have happened if not more. The more I look as these pics and try to understand how this happened or why she has to now take pain meds and antibiotics is growing increasingly frustrating even if handled correctly on a financial side. Please don't read my review as this makes the entire company bad as this may be an isolated case but I feel everyone who loves their dog as one of their own has the right to know this happened. Absolutely need to train their employees better! Bought two ferrets on two separate occasions in which two different people helped us and we got misinformed twice! They gave us the wrong gender for each ferret! It's quite frustrating to have named our ferrets something that match the gender we thought they were, only to find out they are the complete opposite! A lot of people may not think this is a big deal but for someone who went in having very little knowledge of these types of pets and expecting to speak to "experts" on the matter only to learn they didn't even give us the right gender only makes me wonder how much misinformation is being put out there by these employees! Also learned from our wonderful vet at Avian & Animal Hospital that over half the things we were told there about caring for ferrets was completely inaccurate. Thankfully, I have done my own research after the fact and managed to keep our fur babies healthy despite all the wrong information we were given. All I know is, when I got my job, I was trained enough to give out accurate information to clients and thinks that it's terrible this company does not do the same. There is NO excuse as to why they shouldn't be trained to know something as simple as the sex of an animal they sell on a regular basis. read more

We have never gone to petco for grooming so we decided to take our dog there. We asked that they treat our dog nicely and not to hurt her. Went to Petco to get my dogs groomed stylist was David apparently students worked on both of my dogs instead .was told I would get 30% off of my dogs grooming since they were getting groomed by students . They upped the amount I would normally be spending . I then picked up both of my dogs very unpleasant to see that one had been completely cut not on how I had explained to have them looking. The other has a haircut that looks like they did absolutely nothing to !! Misgiven cut looks like something that I could do at my home . Why spend 118 dollars on a haircut that I could do at my house . The buffing on the nails and shampoo does smell and look good though but other then that very very disappointed. Also called Petco right after the grooming to explain that Neither me or my family are not happy and satisfied with this and would appreciate my full money back manager was very unprofessional and seemed rude but did give me my full money back in the end I definitely will not be returning or recommend getting your dogs groomed here . read more
