This is the first time I have ever written a review on anyone. My experience was so horrible, I feel compelled to write about it and warn other dog owners so it doesn't happen to them. On August 23, 2026, I had made an appointment for my 16 year old small breed mixed dog to have a bath and a haircut. I have taken him here prior and have never had any issues. I always try to book the first appointment of the day as my dog has anxiety when separated from me for extended periods of time. I had him booked for 815 and arrived a little earlier. he appeared to be the second dog to arrive for day. normally he would be there for 2 hours or less and I would receive a call to pick him up, so I stayed local and did some shopping in Garden City. At 1045 I decided to go to Petco to see how he was as almost 3 hours had passed. There were 3 staff members sitting at the desk talking to each other. I interrupted their conversation to inquire about the status of my dog. One of the young ladies went in the back to check. She came back out a few minutes later to report that he was not ready and that it normally takes 3 to 4 hours for a haircut. I said, then he should be done soon, I dropped him off around 8. She then became very snippy and reiterated that it would be 3 to 4 hours and they would contact me when he was done. Even though she was very rude, I left the store figuring they were just busy and that he would be ready at noon. I came back at noon and all 7 employees were sitting at the front desk, I am assuming on their break, joking and laughing. The employees listed were: Hannah, Lexi, Sage, Brooke, Richard, Izzy, and Alisha. Then I noticed customers coming in and picking up their dogs. I started asking them what time their appointments were scheduled for and the services they were receiving. They were all roughly the same services as my dog with appointments at 10, 11, and a walkin with no scheduled appointment. At this time it is 1230 and I can't even see my dog anywhere through the glass. I ask for the manager. She quickly noted that she runs the store but doesn't oversee the grooming area. When she came back she had some excuse that my 16 year old dog had an accident, he had been there over 4 and a half hours at this point and that was the reason for the delay. After she spoke with them, my phone went off which I thought indicated he was ready but I was wrong. They just wanted to give me the bill but stated they were still working on him. I went to the cashier to pay and the first thing I was asked was if I wanted to leave a tip. Absolutely not. Now it is 1 pm, my dog is finally taken out, and I do not see any other dogs being worked on. Nothing had been done prior to that time. I could visibly see him shaking from where I was standing from behind the glass. I asked to speak with the manager again, I wanted to make sure that I was sent an email so that I could leave a review. She again reiterated that she did not oversee the grooming area and that there had been many complaints filed against them. I told her that I understood that these are young people and that they are probably getting paid minimum wage but they were taking care of a family member and someone responsible should be overseeing them. And why do they have you make an appointment if they don't follow them. I finally received my poor baby around 130, 5 and a half hours later. He was shaking like a leaf. I really hope the owner or someone from Petco in Garden City Cranston reads this and something is done because I do not want this to happen to anyone else's dog. read more

I walked by this Petco location and saw a female employee scrubbing the public sidewalk outside the store with a mop, and honestly, it was uncomfortable to watch. That's not just unusual--it felt completely inappropriate. Having a retail employee mop a sidewalk is gross, unnecessary, and frankly humiliating. Sidewalk cleaning is something typically handled by proper outdoor maintenance services, not underpaid store staff. It raises serious questions about how employees are being treated and what they're being asked to do. There's a difference between keeping a storefront tidy and assigning tasks that seem degrading or outside the scope of a retail job. Watching that made me think twice about how this location is managed. read more

I was so devastated to see the lack of care for their reptiles. Leopard geckos were on sand which is not at all species appropriate and can cause impaction (and death). They were without water, adequate hides, and had uneaten crickets too large for their age/size left in their enclosures which if not removed after feeding time can bite and injure them. The bearded dragons' enclosures were absolutely filthy as well. :( I approached some of the staff to ask questions and hopefully see if someone could do something to improve their husbandry and I was met with dismissiveness and annoyance bordering on aggression. I understand the employees can't do much when corporate is giving them certain expectations, but I have seen other Petcos with better husbandry and healthier looking animals, so I don't really buy that corporate is "making them" put their animals on substrate that will kill them. Is this husbandry really a corporate standard or store specific? Petco, if you're going to sell animals, the least you can do is ensure even just the bare minimum care for your animals and educate your staff. I'm horrified and heartbroken. One day I really hope Petco listens to its customers and stops selling live animals altogether and perpetuating their neglect and abuse. In the meantime, I just hope this Petco will at least follow other stores' examples and do whatever they can to improve. These are sentient beings with unique personalities that can live up to 20 years with proper care. They're not even being given a chance at a life other than that of suffering. Make sure you check their Google reviews too. Their fish and small mammals also seem to be notoriously neglected, filthy, starving, and even dead. read more

i rate this place a 0. I had an appointment last Thursday at 11:30. they called me to let me know that they had no hot water at that time and asked me if I would come in at 12:00. I was fine with that.I go there and was told that they still didn't have hot water yet. was told it should be fixed soon and I could leave my dog there. decided to wait in the car. After 20 minutes I called them from my car to see if the hot water was fixed and was told they had no idea when it would be fixed. I was so mad. Very odd experience. We ran in for some cat food and saw 6 employees talking in a circle in the middle of the store while we waited in line to check out that a single employee was working. I was in search of bird food deals since my mother-in-law has several bird feeders. I found a good amount of choices, mostly small to medium size bags, not many 10-20 pound bags. I was surprised to see hamster and gerbils for sale here, but I guess, that is the place you would go to get one. They had a nice enclosure with lots of parakeets inside was well. My mother in law's bird feeders are used for wild birds coming to her back yard. I found the store a bit cramped, but well stocked. read more

So they hire these completely incompetent under trained groomers like Maddison whom are incapable of doing their job. I brought my 11 mouth old puppy in for grooming and Maddison tells me she was too nervous for the grooming requested. They charged me $65 for bathing a 7 pound tiny dog. No haircut whatsoever. Then there's the bad attitude!!!! I called and spoke to the grooming manager who was equally useless in explaining why Maddison couldn't deal with grooming a teacup puppy. Booked an appointment a week ago and got multiple text to confirm and a text even saying "We look forward in seeing you" I arrived 10 minutes prior to the appointment and they were in the back staring and talking about something after five minutes they come out to tell me the groomer who were supposed to groom my dogs called out and they supposedly called me yesterday but I never got the call. You would think they woulda canceled my appointment if the groomer did "call out". Waste of time and very inconsiderate on their part. Disappointed with the training I bought from here. What was supposed to be a 6-week Puppy Training 1 course turned into a 10-week course due to trainer absences. Sure, unexpected events happen but what is annoying is the seeming lack of consideration/respect for customer's time. The notice is dismal- a few minutes before the 4PM start time when we are already on our way or right at the parking lot of the store. The worst one was when we were already at the venue. We could have done something else with our time, too. Also, with training, the key is consistency. The interruptions to the supposed weekly training did not help the effectiveness of this program. The last time we showed up at the door and were informed of the same day cancellation, we were given a 20% discount off our next purchase as a service recovery. In other words, we now have to spend in the store to get this "recovery". Ugh. read more

this petco was absolutely gross and rude. in about every single tank there was more than one dead or half dead fish. they were suck to the filter, fish stuck upside down, gulping for air. baby beta fish dead ,as well, in their containers. we complained and we were told they are "just fish". we were told their fish keeper had called out for the day, while half of the fish stuck and dead to filters have obviously been there for days. The staffing was rude and your fish tanks were gross and uncared for. You're a pet store not an all around store. your main focus should be on the well being of the pets you sell. not just some animal. read more

I have been taking my baby dog for grooming for a about two years now. Petco groomers always do a great job . Over this time I have had different stylists. Ramona who has been doing my dogs hair for about a year , is a wonderful stylist . Really easy to coordinate with her for times and days of grooming . I noticed that when I used to take my pet to a groomer near by my house, he would come back shaking and not happy for a few days . At Petco he comes back normal . I like that you can se thru the glass when they are styling your pets, that really gave me an assurance that my pet wouldn't be mistreated . I really like the notes I get after my baby is done. I've visited this Chapel Hill location a few times to pick up replacement gold fish and grab random doggie toys. It is your typical big box pet store. Nothing out of the ordinary for pet product selection. However, I had my first experience with the in-house grooming here the other day and that's what I think makes this joint the cat's meow. They booked my same day appointment without a hassle. Otto is an older big gent of a guy who needs special attention. He gets a wee nervous with the bath and dryer bit. I am like a nervous mom dropping at daycare when we go to the groomers...and I can be a little too detailed (translated: neurotic) with my instructions. Loved that they really didn't seem to mind - and they actually listened! Lucy did just the right amount of sweet, baby talk to coax my big boy into the bath area. Found out later that she washed him at floor level so that he wouldn't harm his slightly achy hips and kept him under the dryer as little as possible. The result? At pick up, Otto came out of the kennel happy as a clam - and stress free! (see posted pics) They gave him a report card to let me know how he did which is a nice touch. He received a glowing "good boy" check mark...I know, I know. Sounds gimmicky but I can tell you Ginger, the cute gal getting checked out after him, got the "nervous" check mark on HER report card AND she had TICKS!! (yes - of course, I peeked). The cost of getting my handsome boy cleaned up and smelling purdy was $60 plus $10 for a tip. As an added bonus the wash, dry and brush took less than 90 minutes. They have late night hours on certain weekdays for those who don't want an all day drop-off situation. Slightly inconvenient that you can't add in the tip to the grooming bill if you're charging. Be mindful that tips are in cash only. Not the least expensive groom, but I am willing to pay a little extra for the TLC and stress-free treatment for my big guy. Will definitely go back. read more

By no means go to this store. This is my 3rd visit. I started to go every month after my first experience that was good. They confused me and made me sign up for something called viral care that I have been paying every month. Today the groomer said am not a member and did not get any discount that they promised. I trusted them and left. Just happened to check my bank transactions and I happened to see the monthly deductions. This is fraud and completely unacceptable. When I called the store, manager wasn't even sorry about it and blamed me I shouldn't have left the store without crosschecking. So, its my fault to trust them. And my pet only got wash with no haircut that they charged. Am not going to this store anymore and reporting to my bank to stop any financial transactions. Second grooming visit with both of my dogs. Claudia is the primary groomer we request and she does a fabulous job on both of my dogs. She is very flexible and understands our younger dogs anxiety. Our dogs are unique and require extra attention with their cuts and she nails it each time. Pricing is on the higher side however Petco provides several coupons and spa club. Hours are super flexible and not an issue to schedule an appointment for them. For both of my dog she takes about 4 to 5 hours. read more

I really like the store. They are so pet friendly and so people friendly. They have great sales and a wonderful selection. If you find something on their website for a lower price they will match that price which I like. They also have curbside pickup and online delivery but I prefer to go to the store because the people really have knowledge about animals in their needs. They have advised me as to what food to feed my little dog who was gaining some weight and concerns me. I fed him what they recommended for 3 months and he is back down to his normal weight. It's only a pound difference but he doesn't way too much so that's a big difference for him. Also he has horrendous breath and they have suggested cures for that as well and I have had some success with those. But I do like it here and it's convenient and the people are very nice and provide good service. read more

Despite the overpriced dog food and pet products I had a great experience with the groomers. I just brought my daughters Labradoodle up from Florida and took him in for a grooming; he is over 100 lbs and has poodle like hair. I was expecting to pay $70-$80 and they did it for $60. I made the appointment a couple of days earlier and brought in his vet records but when I showed up they didn't have any record of the appointment or copies of his records, they told me I needed to bring the copies in again before they could take him. I was a little upset but as I was driving home to get the records the manager called and told me they found their copies and apologized. They gave me the "super duper treatment" teeth cleaning, etc... for free. They corrected their mistake and made it right and for this I give them good marks! They also did an excellent job grooming the dog!!! This place is A-OK in my book and I will use them again. read more

I didn't know that I needed an appointment for this, as it was listed as a walk-in item on the Petco website. Ramona was over the top nice to both myself and my pup Copper! She took him back right away and was able to get him back to go. He had been super stinky and uncomfortable and she turned him right around! Thank you Ramona for being so sweet and helping Copper. I really want to like this location better. I really do. I am a HUGE fan of Chapel View/Garden City, so it makes my life a heck of a lot easier when I can get everything done in such a small yet effective little shopping mecca. However, I find myself more and more disappointed with this location every time we go. And, yesterday was the kicker. I brought both of my pups for an adventure to Petco. We got manis, we got pedis, we got toys...it was a heck of a spree! The store is getting a little too, um, "broken in" for my taste. In fact, when my little Roxie started sniffing a corner that she refused to walk away from, the folks there indicated that was the designated pee stop. Awesome. Anyway, the reason I'm miffed was the food selection. Now granted, it seems like every time I select a new food it is the same food I am unable to find anywhere. Luckily, Petco had it, but only small bags (11lbs) at $38 a pop! For the record, I have 2 pups whose total weight is somewhere around 150 lbs. An 11lb bag will last me about 3-4 days max, and it's much more cost effective to buy the large ones. Savings aside, I asked if there were any bags in the back (of course not), and then searched the store high and low for any signs of their beloved kibble. Nothing. Nada. Okay fine, you win Petco...I'll buy the small bag. On my way out I overheard the cashiers saying there was more in the back but they didn't feel like bringing it out. Wow. read more

I once swore I would never go back to a Petco. I had a bad experience when I first adopted my dog, which is what began my love affair with Petsmart. But then I discovered Unleashed by Petco (few locations in MA), loved it, and decided to give this new-to-me Petco a try. Yep, still don't like Petco. My experience with the staff is that they are not very friendly and borderline rude. I try not to generalize an entire store of people, but my experiences have never been good (and I have visited on a number of different occasions). I made a grooming appointment for my dog and was told it would only take a half hour. I was surprised - I had her groomed regularly at PetSmart and they always said 3-4 hours. When dropped her off, I was on a tight schedule and was planning to wait the 30 minutes. I was then informed it would be 3-4 hours. I couldn't wait, and was about to leave with her when they told me they could *squeeze* her in and be done in about an hour. They did an ok job but I wasn't as happy as I have been with Petsmart. During another trip, I bought a bag of goodies from the treat bar. When I got home, I went to give my dog one of the treats from the bag and it was stuck to another one. Figuring they had baked together (like Triscuits often do!) I pulled them apart...only to realize they had been "sewn" together by a web and a little white worm which was living inside them. Horrified, I looked closely at the other treats to see a dusty, dirty residue on them as well. Needless to say, the bag went right into the trash. Went to this relatively new location (located in the Shaw's/Ted's Montana Grill/REI shopping plaza) of Petco today. First plus, being new, it was really clean, which cannot be said of some of the other Petco locations I've been to. Second plus, the staff was really friendly and pleasant, which is always a plus in my book. Third plus, I like this location much better than the one a little further south on Bald Hill/Rt. 2, as it's much easier to get in and out of the parking lot. I was thrown off a bit by the layout of the store, which was different from all the other Petco's I've been to. The fish and aquarium supplies are all in the middle of the store, and everything else is on the walls around it; in all the other Petco's, the fish are along one of the walls. Once I figured out where everything was, though, I found this location to be pretty good for the other reasons stated above. I'll probably stop here again on occasion if I'm in the area. read more

I have brought my temperamental dog here to be groomed several times. She is a bit of a biter, but the groomers at this location have been great with her! Never an incident (but I'm not holding my breath). They are all very caring people who are gentle with my old lady. They seem to have a little bit of turnaround with staff which is tough because of my circumstance with my dogs behavior, but none of them have failed me! Store itself is clean and new. I don't shop here though, just use their grooming services. read more

Today my adorable pup came home smelling fresh and clean with a christmas bandana & a christmas card from the worlds best groomer Alissa. If she doesnt groom your dog you are missing out. Ive posted on here before expressing how much we love her and today was just above and beyond. We received a hand written card from her thanking us as customers even had our pups paw print. She also sent him home with some cookies from the petco cookie bar. Alissa is THE BEST, we love her our pup loves her so much and we will forever keep coming back! Petco please make sure alissa gets the recognition she deserves! There are not many people like her out in the world who love what they do and take such great care of our special fur babies. I can not say enough good things about the Petco grooming at Chapel Hill. We took our Min Pin mix in to have his nails trimmed. He is so awful and hates to have his nails trimmed; tries to bite and needs to be muzzled. Autumn was the groomer and she was amazing. It was like watching the dog whisperer. She was gentle and quick. We could see our dog trying his hardest to be bad and she just calmly went along and trimmed every nail seemingly with no effort. Highly recommend!! read more

I attended one of the vetco events at petco to get a rabies renewal for my dog. The event started at 4pm, so I arrived 30 minutes early to get in line. The Vetco event is a reduced price for the vaccinations so I heard that the lines could get pretty long. I was about 5th in line which seemed to be pretty reasonable. Well, i think i waited about 90 minutes to be seen. During that time, other owners with no so well behaved animals also stood in line. Honestly, I don't know that it was worth the savings, i will probably just pay the vet fee next time. For anyone who has many pets, or has a tight budget , this is a great service. They will update any shots you need and I heard another patron getting a puppy well visit. It's a great service provided. The vets were very nice and treated to animals gently and seemed very thorough. read more

I stopped by there yesterday, I had to buy some Greenies for my dog. I was surprised that there wasn't much customer service there. Actually I couldn't find a sales person any where on the floor, expect for the cashier. I use to own a pet shop a few years ago and was very surprised at the service at this location. My cat is now terrified of the groomer and my dog had bloodly paws from trying to scratch her way out of the cage! I have never had this problem anywhere else! I will never go back again ever! I have never been angrier in my life!! I am not a complainer, I work retail, I get it. But I can't keep quiet. I strongly urge everyone to STAY AWAY! NEVER TAKE YOUR FURRY FRIEND TO GET THE GROOMED HERE!! I love this place and their selection. However, Monday I took my dog to get his nails clipped and it was horrible. My dog is always well behaved, so I wasn't worried. But this woman (who turns out is the manager) put him up on the table and didn't secure him down and he tried to jump. He didn't know any better. She made a slight attempt to catch him, hurting him more in the process. He was yelping in pain!!! My heart stopped and I jumped to save him. I yelled at her to give him back and I walk out. He was limping and still crying. I put him in the car and went back in to try to talk to a manager and out walked the woman who just hurt my boy. My point in writing this is to ensure this NEVER happens to another poor dog. They should ALWAYS secure them before bringing up the table!
