I hope this can be resolved without me having to call again and be lied to *again.* I've had public-facing jobs almost my whole life, and I know how people can be. I'm not one of those people. This has just been an all-around poor experience. :/ *********** Update: Just tried calling and they insisted that no one from Petco responds to Google reviews and were kind of rude about it. Suggested that maybe corporate would respond and I said, ok, then corporate told me to call you, which they then also refuted. Went from two stars down to one. Should be zero. Avoid. See photos for his paws. I'll spare you the butt pic, ha. ------ I hate having to leave this review. I don't much care about how my dog looks (he's always cute), but because he's a mini schnauzer, he requires grooming. I don't expect perfection from a Petco groom, but I do expect someone to do their best. What I got was almost nothing done. His paws were not trimmed/cleaned up (nails were clipped but still a bunch of hair in his paw pads), it looks like he wasn't trimmed around the face or ears *at all* with the exception of his eyebrows, which is actually one of the things meant to be longer on a schnauzer. There was also no sanitary trim. He still has a ton of hair around his butt and pee area. All that said, the groomer was very nice and pleasant (the two stars are for this only), but I'd rather have someone rude that will actually do the job, ya know? read more

It's been a week since the incident. I called the provided number (which was the regular service line btw), complained about what happened, they said they'll escalate and get in touch and nothing happened, nobody called or emailed or felt responsible. I took my dog to another Petco store. And they said she's referred out!!!! So this employee not only was rude and unprofessional, he actually referred my dog out from all Petco services!!!! Extremely disappointed with the grooming department's scheduling and customer service. I booked a 2:00 PM appointment two full weeks in advance to fit my schedule. On the day of the appointment, they unilaterally rescheduled my booking to two hours earlier without my consent. When I called to confirm the address I was informed of the change in time and they completely refused to honor my original 2:00 PM time.Booking weeks ahead is useless if the salon shifts times without permission and fails to honor confirmed slots. This is unprofessional, unaccommodating, and completely disrespectful of a customer's time. I will be taking my pet elsewhere. read more

The manager here is horrible. I took my dog in and they refused to groom him because he had a tick. The manager and the groomer said he had to be tick-free, that I could remove the ticks myself or have a vet do it, and the manager stood there while a sales person sold me a tick removal kit so we could remove the ticks ourselves. We found two ticks and removed them. I made another appointment and went back a week later, and the groomer and the manager told me I had to have a letter from a veterinarian, which is not what they had told me. They insisted they had told me that, although in the discussion he changed it saying he had "suggested" going to a vet. When I reminded him that he stood right nearby when I bought a tick removal kit, he told me the grooming business is separate and he is not responsible for what the store sells me. But he stood there and saw me buy it, so he knew I planned to remove the ticks. The manager and the groomer changed the story on me. I made the appointment here because most other places were booked out for a week or more, and now I know why it was so easy to get it. My "suggestion" is that you avoid the Hartsdale, NY Petco. They treat customers abysmally. read more

Terrible experience across multiple Petco locations (Mount Kisco, Hartsdale, Yonkers). As first-time fish owners, my daughter and I were sold a full GloFish setup and given completely wrong advice--including food not meant for GloFish and no warning about cycling the tank. Our fish died overnight--twice. The Hartsdale manager was rude and blamed us, and no one across three stores ever mentioned proper tank setup. I emailed customer service hoping for help and got no response. Spent over $200 and left with dead fish and a heartbroken 12-year-old. PetSmart treated us better in 2 minutes than Petco did in a week. read more

Very disappointing - almost nonexistent - supply of cat toys and accessories. They had litter and basic condos but no toys and hardly any treats. They had a lot of stuff for birds and turtles and dogs- but, according to this petco, apparently even reptiles are more playful than cats. read more

I brought my sweet golden for grooming services and when we went to pick him up we were told that he hurt himself in the crate and he suffer a cut on his head. No excuse is acceptable for this situation. Even if the dog is stressed he should never be allowed to be placed in an unsafe crate. Avoid this place. read more

Let me begin my saying that my partner and I are loyal Petco customers with Reptile and Aquatic Vital care rewards memberships. Last night was our 3rd trip to Petco for the week. We were utterly OUTRAGED, disappointed, and concerned to notice the neglectful and uninformed care that your reptiles are receiving. Particularly the 9 young Ball Pythons that are being housed at this location. It pains us to hear that the staff at this location has expressed to us multiple times that there are animal specialists on staff. If that were true, every employee working there would know how wrong and unethical it is to house more than 1 python in 1 enclosure. To our disgust we noticed that there are 4 Baby pythons in 1 tank! 3 in another, and 2 in another. A specialist or even a staff who cared about the well being of the animals would know that ball pythons are solitary animals and do not appreciate the company of their own kind unless it is for a brief time to mate. This not only leads to the spread of illnesses amongst the snakes, but it also leads to agression, and most likely death to the smallest or weakest. This shows not only that you are practicing poor husbandry for these animals, but, you are also teaching uneducated clients that it is OK to house snakes together because let's face the truth, 80% of the clientele at a petco really are not experienced reptile keepers. We have had 15 years under our belt caring for Aquatic animals and reptiles. About almost a year ago we purchased a pied ball python at this location. When we first noticed her, she was being sold for $600! Which is outrageous to begin with but also she and all the other snakes at the time in the store were infested with mites. Had my partner and I not pointed that out to a staff member, this would have gone unnoticed and you would have kept selling the snakes with mites because this wasn't a sudden infestation, those snakes had been infested with mites for a while given the look of their conditions. So at the age of 52 I decided to go back to my childhood and get back into fishes. My wife and I decided to buy fishes at this Petco and we were very pleased. The attendant, Wilson, was very friendly and gave us great instructions on proper care of our new aquatic pets. Besides Wilson, all the other employees were very cordial and attentive. read more

I hadn't been to this store for a few years, but went here yesterday, since on my last visit, they had a good selection of store brand canned cat food that competed with Friskies. I'd checked their website and hadn't found it, but hoped they just had it as an in store option. Nope. The store had been rearranged since my last visit; the dog food was where the cat food previously had been. The store wasn't very well lit; this wasn't the store's fault, because the hurricane had shorted a circuit and caused a fire, taking out the lighting in part of the store. My luck, this was in the cat food section. So I'm trying to browse the cat food in a dimly lit section, partly closed off by storm damage, and I'm not finding what I'm looking for. did find some cat toys, so I got those, then went to the register, and while checking out, asked what happened to the store brand cat food. the cashier advised me there'd been a lot of changes in the last few years. Back to PetSmart it is. They have Little Caesar's next door, anyway, so it's a double win - I get what I want, and so does my cat. read more

I would give them no stars. Me and my friend were picking up new tank for my fish and she fell in love with one of the geckos. After I bought the tank I brought it out to my car and while I was outside an employee decided to belittle my friend and refuse to sell her the gecko. My friend explained that she is well experienced in taking care of reptiles and has a family that is also experienced. The employee said she doesn't feel comfortable selling to her because of the three gallon tank I bought for my fish not gecko (my friend has a 10gallon tank for at home). I understand being vigilant on clients buying living animals and the proper living conditions. I just don't think they have the right to belittle people for suspicions they have when they are keep 15 geckos in a at the most a 7gallon tank. I just got a perfect puppy and his nails needed to be cut immediately, they were like cat claws scratching my supple tan skin. after first stepping foot in the other local Petco in Hartsdale, I was told they had no groomers to do walk-in services. they referred me to go to the yonkers Petco. Upon arrival i was horrified. the store was a zoo. idk who was more scary, the animals running thru the store or their "human" owners. it was like walking into a jumanji nightmare with unknown mammal species growling at me. i really couldnt wait another day to get his nails cut, so i reluctantly proceeded to the grooming counter. The girl helping me was very nice. However, they again denied me, citing that my puppies rabbis vaccination did not have an expiration date listed on his papers. Their policy though is that only puppies over 16 weeks of age need a rabbis vaccine, any dogs under 16 weeks do not. My puppy is 12 weeks old and they were pleasantly surprised he had his rabbis. then they say oh theres no expiration date, we cant take him. like hello what?? am i missing something here?? he doesnt even need his rabbis according to your policy. its a PLUS that he already had rabbis, but then youre gonna deny him bc theres no expiration date?? to say i was confused is an understatement. does anyone see the logic in this?? its clear as day. HE DOES NOT NEED RABBIS. HE'S 12 WEEKS OLD. I was furious. In the end im glad they denied him bc their store is utter trash. the place needs to be burned to the ground & then dug 12 feet into the earth if you want to clean the cesspool that store harbors. petco is NOT where the pets go, its where the crazed racoon bitten creatures of america go!! read more

They've been great the very few times I've successfully gotten a grooming appointment but they very literally never answer the phone and grooming is almost always closed - no one knows where groomers are when asked, I've spent 30min-an hour waiting when the one staff member I can find has told me groomers will be right back only to never have them show up. i don't know if this is an understaffing issue but it has been going on far longer than covid. I think the haircut was a good one but I feel this time around I was very over priced. I have a small dog and didn't ask for any spa packages that would indicate such a high price for services. I Just asked for a wash, haircut and Nail trim that comes with the cut. Highest I've ever been charged. Not happy at all with the amount. I went to buy a comet fish which was 25 cents, I found one I liked and the male fish specialist told me if I choose my fish it will cost me $1.99. there were no posted signs that stated customers cannot pick their own fish, and extra charges apply. I called the corporate office and spoke with Alicia, she said there was no policy stating customers cannot pick their own fish and extras apply if they do. My boyfriend bought me a ferret from this location we noticed he didn't have his rabies shots and took him back for that. I've been calling everyday and they have been so nice to me and updating me on my ferret. I feel so annoying lol probably would've been tired of myself but whoever picks up the phone is absolutely nice and very detailed about what's going on with my swiper (my ferrets name) Amanda picked up and knew what I was calling about which made me feel really good that she didn't forget about me. This is a standard Petco, but I am bumping my usual "standard" 3 stars to 4 for these reasons: 1. The clerk was quite helpful. I don't keep track of what wattage bulb I need, but he was helpful in picking it out for me based on my tank size. 2. Clerk is willing to chat a little when you feel like chatting, and willing to be quick and ring you up quick if that's what you want too. 3. This was my first time coming here for the grooming. My blue nose pit who is 5 months old needed a good bath and nail trim since all this quarantine. I booked an appointment with Athena N. And let me tell you SHE WAS AMAZING!!! My baby hasn't been away from us in months for a grooming and he wasn't too fond of having to go with big dogs or staying with a stranger. Athena was so patient and kind dealing with Nipsey; she took the time to try and make him comfortable with her first before we left. She sat on the floor with him, she allowed him to take his time getting to know her and she even tried different methods to get him adjusted to her and the environment. When we got him to her he had the longest, sharpest nails and he had a piddle accident in his kennel on the way there so he was sticky from it. She allowed us to leave the store for an hour and when we got back, HE WAS SO HANDSOME!! His coat was shiny, his eyes sparkling, he smelled amazing and was sooooo happy to be with Ms. Athena. She also had an amazing coworker with beautiful blue hair and gages whom my baby also loved while he was being bathed. Two weeks ago I purchased some dry cat food which was on clearance. It was royal canin which is very expensive so the clearance price was a great deal at $10 cheaper. I noticed that 1 of the 2 bags on shelf had expired 6 months ago so I bought the good bag and gave the cashier the expired bag. He said he would let manager know. Last night I stopped in again to see if they had any more on clearance. It was now marked down to $17.98 (usually $32.99) which is a great price but all 3 bags on shelf have expired 6-12 months ago! 1 of the bags has the same date as the one I gave the cashier on last visit. They are more concerned with making money trying to sell expired food to customers who won't notice. Check dates on all food you buy here! We have been bringing our labradoodle here for grooming for the past couple of years. I know to leave time to make an appointment with Megan, but that's ok as she's worth waiting for. It may not be an obvious choice, but the facilities are clean, the staff is kind and do an excellent job.
