First of all the price is great in my opinion. Their facility has plenty of play space and the livery room we got was large. We always want, maybe even need, to be able to check in on them. While on past stays we would look and find them pacing and awooing all night. Something about this place made them zen. They looked out the windows, climbed and snuggled in their bed. We signed up for both of them to get a bath before pick up but due to some error with their system only our little guy got his, which was sad because if we had to pick we would have picked her. For our two dogs it was $115 a day for the luxury suite. When we arrived to pick them up we expected our Dachshund to scream like he does when we come home and our Auggie to go crazy and we were so disappointed when they came up to us like okay cool, summer camp is over? Not one cry or bark, no jumping or crazy tail wags. Next time we hope to board them for training. Our dogs would have required 3 weeks and that just didn't work for us right now.

In addition, Bailey had a massive skin infection, Giardia, impacted anal glands, both ears infected, and Mange to name just a few. We needed help urgently as this poor guy never even wore a collar. Once his neck was healed enough and we had our vet's approval, we needed to get him use to wearing one since we had no control using a harness. Bailey went nuts when he saw other dogs, children, iguanas, squirrels, and any leaf or piece of paper that moved. He also picked everything up, and had the puppy mouthing and nipping going on. Because of his medical conditions, no one would assist us. Melania was a godsend. Although her schedule was pretty full, she took us early in the morning. Her instructions and advice worked wonders. We can walk Bailey without having our arm pulled out of the socket. The day that he watched a squirrel a few feet away was a miracle. Melania not only taught Bailey how to behave, but alsotaught uswhat to do. I think we were as much the problem as was Bailey. We wish i could take Melania back to Chicago with us to continue Bailey's training. Although we'll continue training once we get home, I doubt we'll find someone as wonderful as she was. I talked to John on the phone about the type of training he thought she would need. Just through the phone conversation I learned a lot about what he was able to do for our family but also for my pup. He gave me some advice over the phone that I could start practicing with her. Even though my zip code was a few miles out of what their website says they cover, he still was willing to travel down to my house for training. He has a package of 3 initial trainings(which he says is usually all most people need) and then additional ones if needed. I was looking around at petco/petsmart trainings but they did not seem like they'd be helpful since theres only one person with up to like 5 dogs and the things they were teaching seemed like stuff I could just find online myself. After our first hour and a half of private session and consultation, my little Ellie has shown tremendous( if not the most I've seen in this short amount of time) improvement! I also actually have a structure of a training regimen I can practice with her now until the next two sessions which are flexible in timing. ALSO, he brought toys, treats, and chews for Ellie to use for her training and to keep afterwards! Great surprise! HIGHLY recommend their in home training with John. He has extensive knowledge on training and understands the way dog's minds work and how they communicate which is very important when bonding and training your dog. It is also private 1 on 1 training so the whole hour and a half is all focused on your dog and it's needs unlike the retail store training. It is all positive reinforcement training so nothing negative! I am already confident that this was worth the time and money only after our first session and about as much as I would've spent on the petco or petsmart training! Sure it is half the amount of classes I'd be getting but the quality covers down. Not trying to knock the big chains, but the training just isn't the best out there. I recently…read moreadopted my beautiful pitbull Pepper and I wanted to keep her active, healthy, and socialized with other dogs. That's when I found Natural Instincts on a Google search and decided to give it a shot. I signed up for the agility classes. For 99$ you can attend agility class either Saturday or Sunday morning for 6 sessions. The sessions expire within 12 weeks so when Pepper had to take a break because she got spayed, it was absolutely no issue. The majority of the class is focused on doing the agility course, but they also practice other things such as proper leash walking. The owner runs the class but there are always atleast 2-3 other trainers around to help. Pepper loves agility! She is a couch potato at heart but when she's at agility class she is always having a blast running and just being around dogs. A lot of obedience classes and dog day cares unfortunately discriminate against pitbulls but at Natural Instincts they are extremely bully friendly. Oh and they always have someone with a professional camera taking amazing pics of you & your dog. It's definitely nice having all these wonderful pictures of my dog (it's not like my camera isn't already full of pics of her). I have one week left from this 6 week package but I'll definitely purchase a new 6 week pass next class.

As we begin to talk to Darrel, we begin to analyze and evaluate the person standing in our house due to his strange/ eccentric behavior and his way of speaking. There was an immediate concern and red flags began to go up in the beginning of our conversation. We were very concerned right out of the gate but we wanted to see where this conversation would take us. First we would like to say that Darrel tried to use a shock collar without our permission on our golden. I immediately stated to him "No Shock Collar as we do not condone fear training!" This is not humane nor recommended to build trust. Darrel asked if could take our golden down the sidewalk. I gave him the lead. Darrel began to pull our golden down the sidewalk slowly. Darrel then switched our halter lead for his Choke leash. Darrel then began to pull our golden with the choke leash. Our golden began to choke violently. I immediately spoke up and said "No More.. We're Done!" Darrel pulled upwards hard on the choke leash to get our golden to sit. This is extremely dangerous to the wind pipe of any dog so is not recommended. Hurting the dog is never an acceptable training method. His training methods are flawed and fear based. We didn't get a good vibe from Darrel at all. Also he asked to bring his dog into our home which is strange in itself. Needless to say won't be using his services. People.. please be aware of who you hire for training your pet.

When she became aggressive toward our older dog, we thought about taking her back to the shelter, but decided to try calling Darrel. I'm so glad we did! He had her behaving by the end of our first lesson, and she got better and better over the next month of working with her weekly. His calm demeanor is catching, and dogs respond so well. He also taught us a few tricks! After a mini-bootcamp, she was a different dog. Our two girls get along now, and we don't have to worry. I chose this business because of its reviews and proximity. I explained that my German Shepherd puppy had service-dog potential but I couldn't train him myself due to health reasons. The owner seemed knowledgeable, so I invested over $2,400 for their basic obedience board-and-train. From the start, there were red flags. The contract included extra charges--such as several hundred dollars for potty training--despite those services being advertised as included. They also charged a mandatory $55 bath fee. (This is important later on) During his stay, communication was minimal and our dog rarely appeared on their social media until we specifically requested more updates. At pickup, the trainer demonstrated commands using a prong collar fitted far too loosely and incorrectly. When my puppy hesitated, the trainer harshly snapped the leash, making him yelp, cry, and visibly shut down in fear. Despite this, he continued applying hard corrections until he got up from the ground. After returning home, we discovered they never gave back his collar and he smelled strongly of urine and feces, despite the bath charge. While settling him in after bathing him ourselves, we also found a 5-6 inch injury on his thigh. A vet confirmed it was rope burn and that he also had a staph infection--both of which occurred during his time there. None of this was disclosed to us when it happened or at the end of his stay. Previously, they had refused to give me a tour of their facility. After everything that happened, I contacted animal control to get more information. Anyone considering this facility should know that their animal control records are public and free to request. The reports include dogs dying in their care, kennels covered in feces and urine, roach infestations, unsafe kennel wiring, and reports of dogs yelping like they're being hit. From the notes, it looks like they often refuse access to animal control during surprise visits until they can temporarily clean their facility to meet code. The only positive was that my dog came back with a good heel and place. Nothing else with his training stuck despite daily reinforcements of what they taught him since being back. Cons: Collar not returned Returned dirty and smelling of urine/feces despite bath fee Upcharged for services listed as included Came back with a staph infection Came back with a 5-6 inch rope-burn injury Now fearful of men raising their voices Had to provide all his food/treats (You'd think with board and train, the price would cover that?) Richard was pleasant when we were potential clients and made us feel comfortable leaving our Shepherd in his care. I told Richard that my German Shepherd was skittish and afraid and very leery of men. After the first week I called for an update and his wife was abrupt, sharp and every time I tried to speak, she raised her voice and spoke over me. When I spoke to Richard, I asked for a picture of my dog to see her and they told me there would be a charge for a picture. Richard told me to watch the website and there would be pictures of her regularly. Truth is, they only post pictures of dogs that look happy and my dog, Daisy, was never happy so her picture was almost never on the website. Possibly 2 pictures in 10 weeks? A few weeks later, I got a call that Daisy "broke 2 kennels" and I had to pay for it. I don't believe that happened, Daisy was not aggressive. In the end, they charged me $8,000 for the training, the 2 kennels and an e-collar. I was overcharged for everything but had no recourse, I had to pay. When my dog came home, I took her to the vet because she was alarmingly skinny and more skittish and afraid than ever. The vet put Daisy on Prozac and told me she lost 21 lbs. I shared Daisy's "graduation video" with everyone at the vet's office and everyone agreed that she seems as though she was abused. Richard's training methods may work on some dogs but not all. He was determined to make Daisy comply to his methods and refused to alter, even when she kept losing weight and shutting down. Halfway through her training, he told me she is "stubborn and a bitch and he has had 1 other dog as difficult as Daisy". But even though his methods did not work, he never altered his training methods, and I believe he abused my dog to try and make her comply. He kept Daisy for 95 days, telling me he can't send her home till she "accepts and complies because she is a representation of him". In the end, after 95 days, he gave up. Richard and his wife and children run the business, and I would never recommend him to anyone.

I knew the price was going to be expensive especially since it was happening the week of Thanksgiving. However, I did get a nice discount by showing them my teacher ID which saved me $100 on my total, so that was nice. The staff here seemed pretty nice. I had no issue with check in or dealing with the staff. They seemed knowledgable and friendly. The facility has cameras all over where you can tune in for free via their webcams and see what your dogs are up to when they are at play time. When we dropped them off on Thursday I saw them on the webcam outside hanging out with other dogs. I felt pretty good when I saw my dogs having fun with the other doggies. Unfortunately, this was the last time I ever saw them on the webcams. I was on a cruise from Friday till Monday. I bought the internet package on my cruise specifically so I could check in on my dogs to see how they were doing. I did not have a schedule for when my dogs would be outside for play time to check in on them. Therefore, it was all chance and luck. Well, either I was very unlucky or something fishy was going on. On Friday morning, I logged in at 6 AM and did not see my dogs outside, but did see other dogs outside with one of the handlers. Later on in the day, I checked in again around 10 AM and 11 AM--still did not see my dogs. I continued this process for the next several days at random times, (6, 7, 10, 11, 1, 3, 4, & 5 PM) and I still never saw any of my dogs on any of the webcams. I thought it was really strange though that I kept seeing the same batches of dogs other than my own. On Monday, I came to pick up my dogs. They looked and acted fine, but I still wonder to this day why I never had the chance to see them on webcam. It just left a weird feeling in my gut. On top of that, I only received one report card about how my dog did while I was gone. The responses to how my dog did felt very AI-generated and not personable. So at the end of the day I have no idea what happened with my dogs' stay at Pet Paradise. Hopefully they were treated well and got plenty of time to run around outside and socialize with other dogs because I never witnessed it besides day one.
