Wash your dog at home or go somewhere else $60+ picked my dog up still wet and smelling the same as I dropped her off

I am new to the area and needed a new groomer for my dogs. I have 2 shih tzus and have tried SO many different groomers in the past to know that not everyone has the skill to work on shih tzus! I couldn't tell you The amount of times my dogs have ended up looking like aliens or just flat out ugly when I pick them up. Bella's hair around her face grows forward & down, while Nemo's hair grows up and back. I've had terrible experiences at other petco grooming salons so I was definitly skeptical but Nancy & Kim really showed their dedication to their work and their skill level! Nancy worked on Bella while Kim worked on Nemo. They both did such an amazing job!!! AND they were done soo quick! I was told to come back in about 4 hours but I got a call after 2 hours saying they were done!! My dogs are so stubborn, hate being bathed, and overall hate the groomers but I truly appreciate how much patience both Stylists had while also working so quickly & efficiently Bella is my little psycho princess who is a disaster when she eats and her whole face is always a mess so I started putting her hair in a pony tail/pig tails to keep her face clean. She is so stubborn & HATES her face being touched. Not only did Nancy give her the cutest haircut ever (exactly what I asked her for), she also managed to BRAID Bella's hair! I am so beyond shocked with how she was able to do that! Nancy, I may need to start coming once a week just to have her hair braided by you Thank you so so much Nancy & Kim, I will see you both again in a couple months for their next grooming apt! Can not believe how bad Petco has become, especially being the only pet store in Madera. Went with my husband to buy some Royal Canine dog food but had to use the restroom so I went in first while he got our son out of the car. As soon as I walked in I was almost knocked over with the strong smell of what smelt like ammonia; which was odd because they do not carry any cats or dogs. (Strong urine) I made my way through the very dirty walkway to the women's restroom.. To be honest it looked like the restroom had not been cleaned in years with black mold in the toilets and feces on the back of the toilets. Needless to say I decided to just hold it and just meet my husband so we could leave. On way to find dog food, I noticed how dirty the entire store was as well as the fish tanks, and reptile tanks. The smell began to give me a headache so I quickly went outside and told my husband to go ahead and go in or we could drive to Fresno but I couldn't take it and I didn't want our toddler going in. Very sad because this store used to be our go to so we didn't have to go to Fresno but like most things here you can tell the employees don't care to keep things clean.... I Went in today and waited so long to be helped with fish. And once i was helped the girl Vanessa was very rude and didn't act like she wanted to help at all. Thankfully another girl also helped, I didn't catch her name but her energy was much better than the other girls. She seemed to actually know what she was talking about and made the experience nicer. I am not big on leaving reviews because i understand everyone has bad days. I have been coming here for years, multiple dogs get groomed here some that have passed away and they've done newer dogs as well. The grooming department has been very accommodating over the years I've only had some misunderstanding as far as the hair cut i wanted but most of the time it was due to my lack of understanding on maintenance. But I've never, until recently felt like any of the groomers were solely after money and not the well being of my dog. I get asked every time if i want vital care and i keep saying no because i have too many dogs and they keep asking!! And then when i went to the register the big dark guy asked again! And made me feel like a terrible owner for not wanting it. He said "well if you don't love your dog then ok don't get it" This company has gotten very money hungry and no longer cares about pets or customers. Customer services was horrible. There was no one at the cashier and I waited for a few minutes. Then I notice there were people in the back. 2 were grooming and one girl who was tatted down was on her cell phone.. she looked up and put her head down and started sweeping. I was ignored until I said excuse me can I get help. She then made hand gestesture with a dirty look. She came out and I said is there a problem she said yea, called for assistance. The person who rang me up was no help and could of been apologetic or something. I explained what she did and all he told me was, "We don't work with the groomers"as if I was suppose to know that. This is the worst store I have ever been to! I took my 2 dogs in for a grooming service and was not one time greeted or spoken to. I had to initiate that I was there for a grooming service and in a very unprofessional and rude tone the lady said "did you bring their vaccines?" in which case I did, I showed them to her and she walked away. A new lady came out to grab my one dog who has anxiety and I mentioned to her that I had given him a calming medication an hour ago and without saying anything walked to the back room and came back to let me know they could not take my dog because of this. I have never had an issue with this before and I have taken him to many Petcos in the past. Come to find out their policy has since changed (I found this out from another store I called) had this been explained to me in a professional way I wouldn't have been so upset but from the second I walked in their doors they were rude and I seem to have been an inconvenience on their day. I will not be taking my dogs back to this establishment and recommend you don't either if they treat humans this way I can't imagine how they are treating the animals! read more

Went in to get a cat tree and some litter for my kittens. The prices for 2+ level cat trees are insane, nothing below $120... so i opted for a plastic toy/light up ball (that I thought was $10) and 30 lb of litter. My total was $47.50. For two items. My pet returned for a follow up visit as scheduled for part 2 of a 2 part new puppy vaccination series.   The Vet refused service unless we paid for an additional checkup fee of $35 for Heart Worms since my dog just turned 7 months old.   I am on a fixed income and did not have the additional funds.  The Vet said "oh well" and we had to leave.  Now my pet has only a half a vaccination series and the original funds paid wasted. Oddly, this "checkup" was not required for part 1 of the series nor was it mentioned when they scheduled the return visit. This is a Hidden Charge that equates to Blackmail. The belief is "Pay more or you won't get the second dose to make it complete, requiring you to start over elsewhere." read more

I only shop here because I hate Walmart and Petco closed the only mom & pop pet store in town so this is the only place in town I can get my dogs and cat food. They do have a lot stuff, and its priced OK. The staff is very nice. read more

Ok I love this store and the staff is always awesome, welcoming, and friendly. It's a little expensive but I love all their Halloween and starwars stuff! So cool. It also has a much better layout than the Fresno store...I can never find anything there! That being said...can you guys fix the door? I am a regular shopper at Petco. I have one dog & I get all his toys, food, grooming & other needs or wants from here. The prices are average. The staff are all friendly. I get my pups Christmas pictures here. They offer training for dogs. They do have a yearly Christmas calendar for a $15 donation to the shelter that is loaded with coupons & plenty of free coupons, very worth it in my opinion. They have fish, reptiles & birds. The SPCA & Madera Shelter have pet adoption days here monthly. The store could use a lil more dog products like the other Petco in fresno but that will not deter me from shopping here.. read more

-0 STARS !! After today, I'M DONE WITH THIS PLACE!! They sold me some Diamond tetras and a few days later sold me what was called Buenos Aires tetras. Paid $1.99 each for Buenos Aires and $3.99 each for the diamond tetras. GUESS WHAT ?? THEY ARE THE EXACT SAME FISH!! Needless to say they were picking on all my other fish so I called Petco Madera, spoke with some lady who said, "Yes you can trade them back in". So I spent 2 hours catching 10 super fast fish. Took them back and a lady (the only one working on this day) said take them to the fish room and she would call someone. A few mins. later the same guy who always waits one me came up. I laughed and said I should just move in (because I've been in there like 4 days strait). I told him what was going on and he said he needed to speak with the manager WHO WAS--GUESS WHO THAT SAME LADY. He came back and said I could GIVE THE FISH TO HIM. "WTF"?? He said he would donate them to someone, that they wouldn't be able to sell them. Again "WTF"?? When I grabbed the fish to leave I looked at the counter where the manager was just standing and she had magically disappeared. So the manager changed her mind because the fish I brought back WERE THE ONLY ONE'S ALIVE IN THE WHOLE F**KING STORE?? I'm so pissed, especially after I've spent over $300.00 in the past month. I shop here regularly for food and pet supplies and have always been happy with the options and staff. This was my first time using the grooming services. I didn't need the full groom just some basic nail trimming etc. The staff was great, it was quick, and prices are very reasonable. Plus they're open on weekends which makes everything very convenient. I have my next appointment scheduled. read more

There's a lot of things that I like about this place. Love the animals. The kittens and puppies. The varieties of different pet food. Prices are decent and employees are very helpful. Dog training - Let me begin with accolades for Ron the dog trainer. He has been great and the limited time I have had my dog at Petco, he has been great. My issue is, I purchased a prong collar at that Petco for my dog to train with, the reason being he slips his collar and is somewhat aggressive around other dogs due to his fear anxiety. For my liability and I think Petco would concur (but apparently not) for their liability, it is a smarter choice. Due to internal store issues, I was told I most likely won't be able to use the prong collar any longer a couple weeks ago and if that was my choice I would receive a refund.. I have not been able to be in class for two weeks due to my work schedule. I showed up yesterday for class. When I arrived at class, I was told absolutely not on the prong collar, but the manger had recently left the store and the interim was not giving refunds. I left my phone number yesterday and received a call from the interim manager, who indeed told me I will not receive a refund. I have not completed my dog's classes there and feel a refund is due, since Petco will not allow me to use a training tool with my dog I prefer for liability. Petco you are in breach of your contract. I have called the corporate office and filed a grievance, so will go from there. read more

I haven't had a negative experience with this Petco. Our family goes there to buy our dog food and other supplies. I can not vouch for the other departments as I only have dogs. It's the only place in town to buy Science Diet brand dog food & I believe Blue brand dog food also. Which is why we really don't have any other option. The staff in the canine department seem very knowledgeable, and have helped me every time I have asked crazy/weird questions. read more

I love the option for zippy grooming(no kennel time) Trisha was so friendly and professional. She answered all of my questions. I was very comfortable leaving my pet Sammi with her. I've been to many other pet food suppliers and yet I always find myself back at petco. I feed my cats solid gold antioxidant blend which again I've searched other pets stores for and have yet been able to find. I've just recently started ordering my dog food online and having it ship directly to my house. Shipping is free! I buy the 30lb nutro ultra senior formula for my 9 year old pit bull and my 6 year old American bulldog. Petco didn't offer the 30lb so Debbie the manager let me order from the store tablet. Now I'm hooked on just having it shipped you even get a discount for signing up for repeat orders. I also get cat litter, toys, wet food, frozen raw, refrigerated fresh food & training accessories Ron, the dog trainer is AMAZING! He has many years in working with strong breed dogs. He has continued to be a huge support in my dogs training. The training costs are reasonable and if your shopping at petco. Get a petco card!! They will send coupons even for training. Check for clearance bins!!! The deals are too good to pass up. Today (6/14/18) I went in to petco (Madera) to buy a goldfish, I went to the fish area and waited. A lady was there with her two kids and the employee helped with 20 feeder goldfish and went and checked them out. I was still standing there waiting for her to come back and help me, she just looked at me and went in to a room up front. This has happened more than once. I live a mile away, but I think I'm better off going to Fresno or Merced than go through this again. read more

There are very seldom any cashiers. The gals in grooming always have to stop what theyre doing and call someone to the front! The tall white boy is always on his phone and never knows what hes doing. One girl seemed ok but wouldn't help because she was "in class" . The only people who ever greet customers are the ones in grooming. Ive never taken my pets to them but they seem to do a good job from what ive seen. The team on the floor needs help. The younger Mexican boy with the ear piercings is the only one that goes out of his way to help people. read more
