When reviewing chain stores I am reviewing the individual location and not the company as a whole. This location is conveniently located in the Town East Mall "Mega-Complex" in Mesquite. This location is a pared down version of a full sized location but still offers most everything you may need. They have a large and well arranged aquatic area. No dead fish! Well, maybe one, but certainly better than other places that offer fish. They offer the refillable cat litter in jugs or 30 pound containers. Current price for a 30 pound refill is $9.99 which I find excellent and the litter quality is good without any annoying scents added. Please don't take your dog to this place. Their incompetence led to the extreme suffering of my dog prior to her death later that day. I can't stand it when people write ridiculously negative reviews, but this place truly deserves it. I took my senior chihuahua for a simple bath. When I picked her up, she was lethargic and her breathing was EXTREMELY LABORED. She was clearly in distress. The staff was utterly uncaring. unsympathetic and far worse UNCONCERNED about her condition. Either that or they were unaware. I'm not sure which is worse. They didn't even bother to inform me that something was clearly wrong with her as they moved her from the cage to her carrier and handed her off for me to pay the bill. When I asked if there was a vet nearby, no one could even answer my question definitively. Seriously! When I got her to the vet, she had to be put to sleep due to heart failure. Yes, she was a senior dog and I signed the paperwork required basically saying that I wouldn't sue them if something happened. I understand that she had heart failure, but she arrived there healthy and happy, so the jury is still out on what they may have done to her to cause such distress. I'm REALLY upset because I wasn't notified of the problem my phone prior to my arrival to pick her up or when I did so she was made to SUFFER because of the staff's utter disregard my pet's health or well-being. I even tipped the "person" who carelessly allowed my dog suffer before I ascertained how sick she actually was. It's been over a year since this happened so I've had plenty of time to heal and move on, but now I feel obligated to make other potential victims of their CRUELTY TO ANIMALS aware of my experience on behalf of Thelma and any other beloved pets they have traumatized and/or victimized. I've been into several different Petco locations and it always seems that they let me down in one way or another with this location not being any different. They are always overpriced, the employees aren't very helpful and they have policies that in my opinion hurt their bottom line for profit. The only reason I even still occasionally visit a Petco is the minimal convenience factor that they sometimes offer but other than that I generally go out of my way to shop elsewhere. read more

Oh Petco... I absolutely love the ease of use online and my repeat orders are a Godsend, not only to save a few bucks but if you forget that Fido is running low on his beefy bits you may be pleasantly surprised when they arrive at your door because you had a lil brain fart and forgot to go shopping for him! My pups recently enjoyed their birthdays and we stopped at the Rockwall location which feels much larger and brighter than this one. The cashiers are all good and the new lady taking over grooming was awesome. A lil disappointed with the hair cuts- quite choppy though I can only imagine how the pups may have been a lil difficult, y'all know my experience with groomers! Sadly for the $79 each ($49 basic pkg + choose 3 spa add on) we are gonna stick with the 30 mile trek back to Furry Tails for $50 a pop because they really know their furbaby-doos! Anyhoo hopefully this location improves the feng shui a lil and works on restocks, been buying allergy bites for my older baby and they twice now have only had one option (and one item left). read more

Came in to get a large feeder and saw the ferrets and asked to see one and the ferrets begin crawling up my arm and employee named Krystal was rushing and very unpleasant. We used Vetco for our 3 yorkies rabies shots. Their prices are great and the vet gives them a quick check up. The same as a full service vet but without the $52 per animal fee. Our 9 year old female was having issues breathing after her injection and the Manager instructed us to go to a full service Vet ASAP. Petco provided us with a list with the rabies tags. We took her to the ER and it turns out she (6lb drama Queen) had a panic attack. Thank goodness! He also told us we can ask for a waiver for rabies next time because of her age and breed, who knew?! Thank you!! We live in Rockwall and will forever travel to Mesquite Petco with our business. Oh, the Manager picked up the tab at the ER too way above and beyond!! read more

I'm not sure how am I supposed to start rating this place. First of all, I had to ask my aunt to take my schnauzer for a hair cut... Personnel is very... VERY RUDE. I have to Work and I needed someone to take my schnauzer to this place so I asked My aunt who is visiting me from México and I asked my little cousin to go with her in order to help her with any translation... She just closed the door when the lady (the skinny one) said: "No Spanish!" And my aunt told her -that's why she is here with me- after that first impression she continued being rude and that's because my aunt forgot the vaccine records and she yelled at her saying: the dog can't stay if you're leaving!!! She took my pet and went back with the records. First of all... she is not supposed to act like that. But that's not all, the other person told her if your dog bites I'm going to stop and call you to pick her up. So... they called and my dog was half done and they said she was aggressive, NEVER knew about my pet biting someone else before, plus I called and they promised to call me again to reschedule the appointment to try again, and I'm still waiting for that call. Bad service and very unprofessional attitude, the only person with good manners is Dean he was very kind and also said 3 people speak Spanish in the store so... that was really disappointing. I give this place a 5 star rating! On 6/1/17 I purchased 2 harnesses for my 2 Doberman Pinschers from this exact store, and they did not fit them because of their chests were simply too big for their XL Harness size. I called and spoke with someone at this location that stated that they were the Manager, and informed that they Harness did not fit them and I could not find my receipt, well the lady that I spoke with informed that I could bring back the Harnesses and get a voucher card. With my life being sooooo busy I had all intention to bring them back but, "LIFE GOT BUSY" and I procrastinated. So, today I brought them back, and spoke with The Manager "APRIL" who informed that they do not reimburse for harnesses because they could've been stolen (mind you she wasn't saying that I was a thief she was just explaining in a VERY professional way that this is the reason why, so I wasn't at all offended) I understood and offered to show proof from my online bank statement. I did and being that the totals for the two harnesses didn't match ( because I had bought other things for my pooches with that harness) she informed that there wasn't a match. Ok...so I panicked because those harnesses was $35 bucks a piece!!!!! I could NOT allow that money to go down the drain!!! NO WAY, NO HOW!!! So as a not so happy customer I informed that I was going to fight this by calling Corporate!!! But the Manager in her soft spoken, kind, professional voice said you can call corporate, and we will allow this return but please know that we do not allow this. We also spoke about my dog breed and weight, she was very informative and engaging. She gave me my return and I bought my pooches their Natural Balance dog food and some treats and Sara walked my dog food to my car for me... I usually shop at Petsmart because it's closer to home, but with this type of customer service, I wouldn't mind making the drive back over here!!! Pets Mart has never offered to carry my dog food for me to my car!!! Great customer service Clean store April is a Great Manager and Represents this company in a fabulous way!!! OMG. Saw this Petco before hitting freeway back to dallas and stopped by to save time. Immediately upon walking in you are awash in this odor of ??? Urine and?? Hay? Something it was just awful. Venturing in further it got even worse, so heavy and bad I could hardly breathe. People were actually buying stuff in all this. I couldn't take it and left. Dog was running out of store. People inside must live with livestock to handle the smell, only one problem, Petco to my knowledge doesn't sell livestock! read more

This place has what you need.everything from fishfood to ferrite food.. You name it they have it. They recently upgraded the fish department and aquarium and did a fantastic job. The employees there are a great help finding things for you and with any questions you might have. Check out the reptiles and birds. They have cats for adoption but there are no dogs..plenty of food for them though. Dog grooming and training is available. Toys for the cats and dogs galore here with treats for both. Its a nice place for you and fido with plenty of parking. This place is nice...lots of things discounted so you can save a little money and who doesn't want that. Came in here last week to buy a neck wrap for my dog who was recovering from surgery. It's a much better option than those stupid funnels that make dogs run into walls and prohibit them from seeing anything. It was about $37. Also picked up some treats and toys for my baby. The sexy guy working was very helpful and showed me and my mom where to find what we needed. We ended up not needing the neck wrap after all and the very next day came in to return it. Same sexy guy was working the cashier and processed my refund with no questions and no hassle. I really appreciate that! I also LOVE the fact that they let people shop with their animals. So many happy dogs were roaming the aisles with their owners and it made me so happy. The only reason I give 4 stars and not 5 is because the stuff in here is extremely expensive. The treats were so ridiculously high and I feel like Petco is really ripping people off when you can buy the same darn things at Walmart for half the price. However, they do have some items you can't typically buy in a Walmart so I give them props for that. The staff is very rude. I felt like I was interrupting their gossip session by wanting to get checked out. I spent over 40 bucks on science diet cat food. There was a big sign that said it was 10 dollars off. The cashier told me the sale expired. I told her there was a sign that said otherwise. She shrugged her shoulders. The fish tanks looked filthy. The cat toy I bought rang up for 12.99 but they meaning more than 6 of the same toy were on a shelf that said 4.99. That item I passed on. Huge eye roll from the cashier. The grooming staff are awesome! They are good to work us in if they can and always pleasant. They are great with my older dog who hates baths. They are sometimes a bit short staffed in the store and it makes it a little hard to get help, but most of the staff are really nice and help as soon as they can. read more

The Petco store at 1500 N Town E Blvd in Mesquite Texas runs-off customers routinely, that store is horribly managed. Again today same routine as many times during the past couple of years: This time it was 5/6/2021 Thurs 5:05 pm I waited in fish area for 20 minutes after I had to frequently flag down store employees asking them to please get someone to net fish I want to buy. But then all the employees in that store each still stood around register doing nothing & not many customers were in the store. Employees there at that time included 2 girls & 1 guy, despite 20 minutes of my asking to please net fish, they each continued walking away into breakroom after each paging to please net fish. After 20 minutes waiting despite almost no customers in the store, frustrated I left. I walked by those 3 lazy employees near the register & I said "20 minutes waiting, I guess you're closed!" Then the male employee there said "it wasnt 20 minutes, it was more time than that". I left the store almost empty of customers, just lazy employees. First time visit to a Petco..The the outside and inside are very dated. The layout of the store is like a maze. There is an awful odor that hits you in the face upon entering...like the store is a huge hamster cage, and navigating it will make you feel like one on a wheel. Took my malit-poo for grooming 4 days ago and he's still traumatized. The groomer nicked his ears, penis and scrotum with the clippers. Groomer had his clipped fur laid out on a table like a trophy animal hide. Very weird. I had to schedule a vet visit to make sure my boy is OK. The service is very poor, and way overpriced, but that's not the issue here. The wellbeing of the pet should be the main focus and that's not the case. DO NOT HAVE YOUR DOG GROOMED HERE. read more

From the start, it was very badly organized. I dropped off my 8 month old puppy and almost immediately received two calls. The first call asked my where my dog was, even though I already took him there. The second call asked if I wanted any extra services, even though I said I didn't when I first walked in. Just as I was pulling into the driveway, I received a third call stating that I needed to pick my dog up. I asked why and was told that my dog was rolling around on the floor and would not calm down when they would try to bathe him. Okay so a couple days ago, I decided to purchase a male veiltail from this Petco as it was close to towneast and I've always been fond of fishes. I bought a Betta that was all crammed in a tiny container, with much love and care though the betta became beautiful. Anyways, later on I decided I wanted to return the tank I bought their (because I got a bigger tank elsewhere) and they accepted my return so I decided to exchange it towards a hamster cage for my boyfriend, while we where their I decided to purchase a couple corydoras catfish for my tank, the worker was 80? and he was very very rude towards me. when I was trying to pick out which fish I wanted he disregarded the one I wanted and gave me another one instead and he was very rough to the fish and then he still had the nerve to yell at me saying "WHAT ELSE?" after each fish he put in the bag. this experience was horrible, the workers looked too old to work their and they were all grumpy. When I asked advise on fish care, she didn't help me at all. All in all, this store STINKS (literally, it smells like urine.) they sell animals in poor condition (the corydoras I purchased were starving when they got home as well as my betta) and the workers have HORRIBLE customer service. the rats, hamsters and guinea pigs are also crammed into small quarters and they all look pretty sick. if I were you people I would spend a couple more bucks at Petsmart or Pet Supplies Plus and get some DECENT animals, and products read more

Decided after 2years to try again, Came in for a collar for a rescue that had never been groomed before,and has anxiety. I felt comfortable enough that I decided to try. I took my Old English Sheepdog puppy in to be groomed at 9am and stopped by to pick her up at 4pm, the groomer yelled at me "that she's not ready" in a very angry tone. I said ok I will come back. I went back an hour later the groomer was still very rude, also I told her I didn't want anything but a bath and brush only, no cut. Well the groomer cut her beautiful long ears all the way to the skin and a bunch of hair on her face. Not only did she cut it when I told her not to but it was so choppy and uneven that it looked like a two year cut her hair, and her eyes were filled with goop and not clean.
