During this process we conducted consultations with several trainers throughout NYC and when we finally connected with Anna we were impressed with her extensive knowledge of dog training that was far beyond what we had encountered with other trainers. Anna has a three pronged approach of positive, corrective, and relaxation techniques which is a much more holistic approach than we encountered when we interviewed other trainers. Anna's focus on relaxation is different than any trainer we interviewed or worked with which teaches dogs how to exist in a calm state, which becomes homeostasis. This is what we wanted most with our dog so that we can all peacefully coexist together. Anna's home and dog training quarters are in a beautiful setting with a gorgeous view of Mt Ascutney. There is a lot of open outdoor area for the dogs to learn off-leash skills and to have exciting distractions such as goats and other dogs. Having a calm, natural setting is a benefit which is allowing our dog to master foundational skills without other distractions. However, because Anna knows that we will be brining our dog back to the city, she has taken our pup to busier areas to work on training with other distractions. After 10 days we met up with Anna and our dog to get some training transferred to us and it was like meeting a different dog. Our dog has already learned great leash skills and is able to be around other dogs and people without becoming overly aroused. She is immediately responsive to all major commands. Anna is also working on house training issues and helping our pup to learn to go outside. Initially our dog wasn't able to go outside because she was becoming too distracted when we were in the city. When we dropped our pup off she was newly recovering from being fixed and Anna's background as a nurse made us feel more at ease knowing that she would be attentive to her healing. Anna's depth of knowledge and clear instructions with us has already helped us learn so much about how to engage with our dog. We are so happy we found her services! I'm surprised that there aren't more 5 star reviews here that sing her praises. Thank you, Anna!

We adopted an un-trained 4 year old Olde English Bulldogge... a stubborn breed to say the least…read more.. and he liked to hump all new people... (funny but not funny) and was dog reactive to boot!! So we started looking into trainers... Thankfully I came across Upstate Canine Academy. After a very professional consult over the phone, we felt assured that this was the right place to bring our dog. We left him at the Academy for a 3 week board and train. Missed him like crazy. He came home understanding commands, don't get me wrong, it wasn't night and day, there was still a LOT of work to be done, but the work was really for us to continue the behavior instilled by the Academy trainers. We were given clear tools to work with him when they handed over the reigns. The incredible part about this facility is that they offer support for the lifetime of the dog after the board and train. (That is how assured they are of their program). Our dog has improved a lot since his initial training, and it is nice to walk him on a leash without his going ballistic when we pass by another dog... and a relief that he no longer humps our human guests when they visit our home! The staff at Upstate Academy are great. They are all dog lovers with an exceptional understanding of dog behavior. The place is clean, and you can be assured that your dog will be safe and happy while he is in training. This is a worthwhile investment.

She was recently out for a month with a serious gastrointestinal infection as well as an infection on her foot which resulted in two of her toes being removed. After reaching out to have Amber return to daycare with a veterinary clearance, we received the following e-mail: Hi, We hope you guys had a wonderful weekend. We miss Amber as well and are happy to hear that her vet doesn't have any concerns. That being said, daycare can be extremely active, and messy as well during play (when pools are out, mud, etc), and we would never want Amber to get further hurt or sick in a vulnerable state. Due to her extreme and sudden onset of medical issues, we feel as a team that we can no longer provide the level of specific care Amber needs at this time. As much as we would love to continue seeing her, we feel that it would not be the best decision for her medically. I appreciate your understanding, I apologize for the inconvenience, and wish you all the best. WTF??? Is upper management now veterinarians too? Who are you to override a veterinary clearance? We thought that is why you have EVERYONE sign a waiver which releases you from liability. What we see here is ageism plain & simple - you do not want to attend to a senior dog who can walk, run & play because you have no staff and cannot be bothered oh, by the way, this is after we, as loyal clients did not sue you after our dog was severely attacked at daycare by a bully dog who had only just joined. Yes, we are loyal clients, we came back, we recommended you to others, you used our dog as a test dog for meets & greets with potential new clients! We have never been in arrears for payment, oh wait, we actually paid in advance! This is NOT how you treat clients! We will be taking our loyalty, money & sweet girl elsewhere, this is all on you, you should be ashamed as there is no reason why she cannot come back, but after the way you just treated us, never again at UCA.

I was excited to start training here after moving to the area. I signed up for a higher level class…read moresince my pup already had multiple intermediate and advanced classes under her belt at our old facility. But they didn't communicate with me until after I had paid 190 dollars that it was required that I pay another 65 dollars for an online zoom meeting with my dog. I couldn't justify paying 2 dollars a minute for a zoom call for my dog on top of the original fee! I understand an in person consult requiring some cost but 65 dollars for 30 minutes all online was not worth it. Unfortunately I had to request a refund and am looking for other trainers in the area that might be a better fit.

And speaking of classes, we went through the family dog class, taught by Maria, with our daughter's rescue Rottweiler. It was fun, clear, and made a world of difference for a dog that is now praised as a "perfect" resident of a Denver apartment building! Both Megan and Maria are highly professional, staying current on the best evidence-based training techniques and upgrading their own knowledge. They are also both committed to positive reinforcement training that improves the bond between owner and dog. They offer a full range of classes and individual instruction. They are super!

I emailed back and said since I already paid I'll keep.the boarding and get the procedure done. Still no response. I emailed at least two or three more times before finally getting a response. They said they would throw some training in with it. Two training sessions to be exact. I was excited and felt blessed. I get out of the hospital and head straight to work on the day I was supposed to pick him up at 5:30. I live two plus hours each way from their facility. My job was halfway. So upon arrival to work I was let go. Instead of driving four hours to come back just a few hours later to pick him up I called and gave them over an hour notice by voicemail that I'd be on my way now to get him. Of course no call back. I get there and an treated poorly and quite disrespectful for being early. Mind you I'm in serious pain from just leaving a hospital procedure and lost my job. Already not a good day. With an attitude and absolutely no control over my 75 pound German shepherd who is quite happy to see me he is letting him.jump.slll over me. He scratched my face actual til it bled while Tom did nothing to hold him back. As my dog is jumping all over me and Tom isn't helping at all he's just handing over his bags of food and treats. I'm sorry I don't have three hands. Finally he helps get Loki in the car I can only assume because I was taking too long. As he was walking away he said his wife sent me videos of how well his training went. I waited three days before emailing asking for the videos he mentioned. There were two a minute a piece of my dog literally being held on a leash sniffing. That's it. I was disgusted. Disappointed. I do not recommend this place. And be aware that if you are paying for training you may want to make sure you stick around bc I'm positive Loki got zero training there. They made my bad day worse. They are horrible with communication unless it's about them getting your money. Fake people. Unorganized. Horrible experience.
