I just left the petco on college road.In wilmington, north carolina and have never been more insulted(not recently). I took my new puppy into the store in his bag and put the bag in my baby in the buggy. While I was in the aisle looking, one of the ladies came on on a cell phone at the end of the aisle, staring at me like I was stealing. Even worse worse, when I went to check out, I could tell the lady from behind the counter was wanting to look in his bag and all she had to do was ask. But instead, she wanted to be sneaky and insult my intelligence, by acting like she wanted to si hi to my puppy but instead, she just reached in and pulled him out of his bag.And I told her, if you wanted to look in my bag, all you had to do was ask.And of course, she denied it it, but it was written all over her face.I will not come back here.They treated me like I was a thief, and I had over $300 in my wallet. UNBELIEVABLE!!!! They profiled and discriminated against me because I am underweight, so they assume I am on drugs and in there stealing but have no idea that I have been very sick most of my life and this is just the way i look. I have permanent dark rings around my eyes because I am a stage four neuroblastoma cancer survivor and I can't stand when judgmental people assume the worst about somebody because of their appearance or the color of their skin, or in this case, the color under my eyes.Or the fact that I am on the thin side. Shame on them and i hope they feel the conviction weigh heavy on their judgemental hearts! I have been treated like this. My entire life and I can still see no end to it any time. Soon and I am thanking the poorly mannered " ladies" ( anything but), for reminding me how crappy ppl are but I praise Papa God for the few good WOMEN that have eyes of faith and not eyes of worldly-ness. They hurt my feelings aa i already suffer from social anxiety, hmmm i wonder why?! They are the kind of ppl that make this world hard to live in. I can't believe she just reached in and pulledmy dog up out of his bag. I never gave her permission to do that. I told her she could give him a treat and say, hello, but she was very invasive, intrusive an ugly hearted about the entire situation, very, very, very disrespectful, and if they run their cameras back and flip the audio on, they will verify what I just said. Have taken our doggies here as our previous place began having booking issues too far out. I have found that in Wilmington, you simply MUST book dog-trims out at least 2-3 weeks. If you're in a pinch for immediate appt's you'll be sincerely lucky to get anything same-week. This location was not our first choice, but has become my favorite!! The price is as-usual for the area, slightly better than the boo-gie 'boutique' places. Paula has done our doggies trim/bath the last 2 visits and she is WONDERFUL. She does fabulous trim work (we shave our pups) and I'm quite impressed at the lack of shave lines, it's actually hard to do that with larger dogs & especially our blonde girl when her coat shows everything. They are always prompt, my dogs are there maybe 3 hours, some of the prior places took 4-5 hours! The appointment text & email system is great too. Very happy we gave them a try!! read more

On Friday I took my sweet Golden Doodle to be groomed. She was happy and healthy but had a few mats behind her ears. I gave permission to cut her close if necessary. I picked her up and she was completely shaved. Groomer said that she will shake her ears/head for a couple of days because of the blood vessels that have "resurfaced" from removing the mats. This was on Friday. I called Petco on Sunday night. I spoke with the manager and let him know that I would be taking Charley to the vet on Monday. She was bleeding still from her ears, she has razor burn under most of her stomach and legs. She is constantly flapping her ears. I'm assuming and guessing not only was she shaved way to close but that the grooming tools were dirty and unsanitary. He understood and to talk to him after the vet appointment. My poor pups ears are infected and the razor burn is sever. I'll try to post pictures. This should have never happened. The groom and tip was $150. The vet bill $199. However, to see my 1 year old sweet girl in so much pain I had to let others know to do your homework. read more

Elizabeth at the grooming salon at Petco is the best part of Petco along with Cookie. There is such a gentle and kind demeanor with both of them with the care and kindness they show both of my very big babies. I am immensely sad to learn that Magic Elizabeth will no longer be there! Bought $100 fish..died.the first night. Took back to the store and they said the policy is no refund on salt fish and we should have been told.when we bought it. We.were not told they policy for different for saltfish and fresh fish. If we knew that was the policy we would have NEVER bought one for $100. This review is strictly for the groomer. I had made an appointment and was quoted a price of $39 to groom my 5 pound dog. I had no special requests and there was nothing needed more than a simple wash and cut. I picked my dog up, paid the bill and when I got to my car looked over my receipt and noticed I was charged $65 for the grooming. The groomer had added addition services that were never discuss. I also tipped $20 before I realized I was taken advantage of. I won't be going back there for grooming again. read more

I was highly disappointed in my visit tonight. Upon entering, there was a foul odor in the foyer area. Then the heat was blasting so high my kids and I felt sick. Walking around the store it just looked so run down and empty. There was a cat there for adoption that looked so sad and was begging for attention. I may even go back and adopt it. We went here with our children to get some fish for our tank, the first lady we asked to help us seemed annoyed we asked for help, then she sent over a different lady and she was rude to us the entire time. She kept mumbling complaints about our children's excitement while she was getting the fish. Also their selection was very poor, she told us several times that she had Electric Blue Jack Dempseys in stock but couldn't find them, and when we asked for one she said she didn't have any. Go to PetSmart if you want help. They are too busy moving plants around in aquariums to answer questions. I stock my pond with goldfish because they are hardy over winter. But most of the comet goldfish they had were gray. I asked if they got more colorful as they aged. The store associate didn't even look up at me and just said no. I asked if they would isolate the colorful comets for my pond. They obviously didn't want to stand up and help me. They said those are feeder fish. Well they aren't just feeder fish to me. They are part of my pond's biosphere so I wanted the bright ones. Not to mention some people have comets as pets. Go to petsmart where they are happy to help you with your pet needs. read more

I have bought 100's of dollars in saltwater fish from this location and I had a fish die within 24hours and they wouldn't refund/store credit. I've had salt tanks for 15yrs, issue was on their side and not mine. I was a loyal a local client but over $50 they lost a customer. Mind you all their employees say there is a 14day return policy. read more

Employees were helpful and knowledgeable and could answer questions about different brands. Always a good sign! The employee said they didn't have any on hand, but when I went to store later that day anyway, I found four bags in plain view on the shelf. This petco, has to be one of the grossest pet stores i have ever walked into. The first thing I had noticed was the stained "petco" table cloth when i first walked in, and i knew there was going to be more. There were bugs absolutely everywhere, the entire store smelt terrible of faeces. I understand it's a pet store but oh my god, my first concern was the living conditions of the ferrets. First off they had divided the enclosure to the ferrets by just using half of the enclosure when typically I see ferrets in a full enclosure and they were using the other half as storage. How do you put five ferrets and a half of an enclosure with no food or water and faeces everywhere. I realized that they had no knocked down their water, obviously they're ferrets they are rowdy that's going to happen but as I was in there for about 40 minutes because I was looking for a lizard I just realized more and more that the ferrets were searching for water and as I went to the front to inform a worker that there was no water she said thank you and mumbled under her breath they do it all the time and that they will be fine. As I watched her walk over to the ferrets she glanced and just walked away and did nothing about it. Another problem was that the giant day lizard didn't even have a light which is obviously something they need to live with. As well as the bearded dragon Cage there was faeces everywhere it was disgusting. I then realized that none of the cages were locked and anybody could just open up a cage in the rodent section or the reptile section and take an animal if they really wanted to. I also only saw one person that entire time working and it was the lady who i informed about the ferrets. This place is a SHIT SHOW! I called corporate, hopefully something will finally be done. I was in the College Road location in Wilmington NC on 7/27 around 7:40 PM. I returned an item and received mediocre service while in the store. As I prepared myself for my flight the next day back to New Jersey where I live, I realized the cashier did not give me back my license. That caused me a lot of stress and humiliation as I was detained in the airport for hours. In addition to having to go through a special screening, I had to produce additional documents in order to return home. When I called the location the next day a manager ( Kayla) informed me that she would next day it to me. I called on Friday after not receiving it and spoke to the same manager and was told she had given it to another manager to next day it to me but that manager was out. After requesting a tracking number when I called back I was unable to reach her. After calling again I requested the general manager contact me and she said he would be in that Sunday. I never received a call. It's been one whole week and no one has contacted me or informed me as to the status of my NJDL. This inconvenience has caused a lot of stress and disarray as I need my license to drive. In addition to that I was unable to get my car inspected because I did not have my license. I am appalled at the dismissive tone taken by this store. I contacted the customer service number that Friday and was reassured that a district manager or someone would contact me. To date no one has contacted me. I am in the process of escalating this all the way to the top because this level of service of customer service is absolutely unacceptable! I used to love and get my pet supplies here. The last few weeks they barely have anything for small pets. I called this morning to find a certain hay my rabbit and Guinea pig love. She told me a truck came last night but not the hay they love this has been going on for weeks. Please order more American pet Timothy gold hay. Purchased a "super pet" Guinea pig and it was supposed to come to me healthy. Has a nasty ringworm infection which is pricey to treat. PETCO does not offer vet care for their animals and said I'd have to return my beloved pet and get a new one. PetSmart has a much better policy for sick animals AND they don't advertise bull like "super pets" that aren't any better than the rest of the sick animals. I recently realized that I prefer this pet store over others in town. It is well lit which makes it more enjoyable to be there, and they always have what I'm looking for whether it be an extra large litter box or a plastic kennel that meets airline regulations. Today I asked the gentleman checking me out what the return policy was, as I wanted to make sure my cat would fit comfortably before travel. He assured me that I had chosen the right one and explained how their policy would let me return it (with a receipt) within 30 days even if I had already assembled the kennel, as long as it was in sellable condition. This place is an absolute joke. Brought my dog for vaccines today...TOLD 3 DIFFERENT PEOPLE WHAT VACCINES HE NEEDED. Had his shot record with me as proof and all 4 people told me they didn't need it. Well the first thing I'll say is the part of the store where VETCO is set up has bugs crawling on the floor. That hardly is an appropriate environment for shots. It's not clean or sterile. AND THEY GAVE MY DOG THE WRONG VACCINES!!!!!!!! And when I pointed it out they were not apologetic. They tried to say I didn't give the correct information. Excuse me? YOU DECLINED TO SEE HIS SHOT RECORD. They weren't apologetic, didn't offer to give him the correct ones which I would have turned down. They just tried to blame it on me. WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL?!? I would not take a pet who is already dead here. These people are awful. I pray my dog doesn't get sick from them giving him the wrong vaccines that he already had. We came to Wilmington to visit my folks and took our newly adopted 7 year old rescue pup here for a much needed bath and nail trim. We were greeted by Andy, who was instantly able to calm our anxious dog's nerves and let us know she was in good hands. When we returned to get her, Andy gave us a very detailed rundown of services performed, and let us know that not only did he trim her nails, but also filed them down so she would not be able to scratch our toddler :) He even gave her a pink Petco bandana around her collar! Petco here is amazing! Two days In a row we have visited for items needed for our Irish Setter puppy. The first day, Erik (? I think) helped us immediately to get puppy food and a crate pad. His customer service and friendly support was refreshing. Ashely at the check out was pleasant and helpful. The second day, John immediately stopped what he was doing and took me to look at crates and pads; he help me sort through the items to get what I needed. Lorin at checkout was friendly and helpful. John again helped as he watched me exit and walked with me to my car and loaded the items (one was quit heavy) into my car for me. I wish that all stores had staff like this Petco store. I'm quickly learning that Petco is extremely overpriced on there pet products as far as dog supplies and things like that. I needed to purchase a shedding tool for my dog that was $54 in the store and I got it on Amazon for $14.99. I can't say all that they all the employees are nice because some of them have attitudes but for the most part decent store. Girl in The Fish Department seems pretty knowledgeable but they always have a lot of dead fish so I'm going to start purchasing my fish elsewhere also. read more

I've shopped at Petco for years but have recently been very disappointed in their service. There seems to be a shortage of staff and those that are there are rude and not helpful. Not long ago they had sales representatives for certain dog food brands in the store. I was greeted every visit by this gentleman who answered all of my questions and gave me a coupon every visit. Now I can't even find a sales associate and if I do they have no idea how to answer my questions. And never get coupons now. read more
