I went to Peter's hardware to go get a key cut. A spare key for a small project bike I got. I had my own blank brought it to the store simply asking they cut it for me. They looked at my key and said "Oh you have to go to our Stuart location, they cut those kinds of keys." I then went an hour later to the Stuart location. "They have a key cutter at their store why did they send you here?" Followed immediately by "Oh we don't cut outside keys and I don't have any keys similar to what you're trying to get." I asked why they can't just cut my blank I brought with me. "I can't charge you for that I don't know how." So now I've wasted my afternoon and the very few key cutting places near all close earlier than Peter's hardware. Thank you all for wasting my time. read more

Peter charges twice as much for firewood as anybody selling it. He makes good enough money already on the high prices that he sells on his product. Plus about $14 for one bundle of firewood +3.5% cause he refuses to pay the credit card fee Terrible. read more

I don't want this to sound like sour grapes, some will think it is. I am semi retired & went to work for this store and told them specific hours that I was available. I said I would like work about 12 hours a week. (2-6hr.days) They scheduled me for only 10 which was fine with me 1 short day 1longer day. Worked for me. I loved the customer service aspect of this job trying to help individuals navigate home, repair issues & being a homeowner for almost 35 years and doing everything myself I had a good understanding of most situations that arose at the store. A number of the employees came from a varied backgrounds, some with true building experience and others with life experience. I truly enjoyed the opportunity, trying my best to help customers with the many questions that they had whether they were experienced in this problem that they were trying to resolve or individuals who basically had no clue. The only true issue I could see, which I understand is they were very aware of their labor cost which they should be. Two or three different times we were overstaffed, and we were slow, since I was a new hire I was asked to leave early, which I agreed to do. When they scheduled me a few times on days that I had requested not to work I came in with a list of days I was available and days that I could not work. The two options were, 1- give me the hours that I had been working over the last month or 2- let me know right up front that my requested schedule of days to work did not fit into their business model. The schedule was usually posted and ready on Sundays for the following week Monday through Sunday. When I came into work on Monday to work my scheduled shift I saw the schedule and saw that I only had Monday (4hrs.) they said that's the way it is. I worked 9 AM to 1 PM. I clocked out and never heard from them again. I guess the points I'm trying to get to is that the one overriding theme from a number of employees at the store was the owner was very tight fisted and unwilling to pay a halfway decent wage. (my pay wasn't really the issue I just wanted to work.) When I received my last direct deposit check today knowing it was only for 4 hours when I checked on the email statement they only paid me for 3 3/4 hours. How lame & pity can you get. One employee went so far and said to me "I've been working here for over a year & and this past Christmas I wasn't expecting any type of bonus, but I did not even get a Christmas greeting or card to thank me for the time that I have put in" There are so many businesses that truly appreciate the time and effort that employees put in and realize that keeping the good ones will require doing everything in their power to keep said employees. Keeping the good ones especially in this very tight labor market should be the #1 priority of a small business owner. (ps- got a new job a week later with the hours that I wanted to work and more money) read more

Be aware. The employees in the Jensen Beach store are not required to wear masks. At this moment in time to not require masks when 4000+ people a day are dying in the US and there are very high infection rates in Florida shows a complete lack of regard for the safety of customers. I was surprised. Stopped at the Jensen Beach store when I needed something quickly. Went in about 1/2 hour before closing. The worker asked if I needed help. I asked my question, she said she doesn't have the item, then she turned and walked away. I called after her asking if she had a similar item or knew where I could find what I was looking for. She seemed very distracted and said over her shoulder "nope, not sure, sorry". I guess I expected better service than the big box stores, especially since there was nobody else in the store. read more

Went to the Peters hardware in Jensen Beach, but since yelp hasn't updated that location and I'm sure policy is the same at each location I'll leave it here. I purchased a key for my car online because it is a specific key with the chip I needed. After programming the key I brought it to Peters to have it cut. The employee said he couldn't cut, when asking why he said because he said he can't cut a customers key? So what's the point of having a key cutting machine if you cant cut my key? So now I have a brand new programmed car key that cant be cut because I didn't purchase the key there? How about a flat rate key cutting fee so you don't lose anymore business. Will find a business looking to make a customer happy with a simple key cutting! read more
