Just a great overall park. What can you really say about it? Big enclosed area where your dogs can run around off leash. Sometimes there are lots of dogs. Sometimes you are alone. Sometimes there are big dogs. Sometimes there are small dogs and sometimes both. People will be people. Dogs will be dogs. It's way better than having them run around on Washington Street! The city of Boston (and surrounding areas) do a great job at making these spaces for our dogs. Peters Park is just one of the great parks in the Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, JP area. I was THRILLED to find an easy to get to secured area for my deaf puppy to play off leash ! The no-mess gravel is a plus along with doggie water fountain and double gates. My puppy has made good friends and sleeps contently after an hour of running here. I am however, incredibly frustrated with one aspect and it's not the park's fault - there are a small group of clueless and irresponsible owners here. They chat and text while ALL of their dogs mount and have inappropriate play with the other dogs and do NOTHING except laugh like it's cute. One of those dogs growled and snapped at mine and the others joined in...fine...it happens...figured their owners would correct them. Nope. Then someone's 180 lb dog comes running into the mix and tackled my 50 lb puppy. No apologies, no offer to exchange info, not a word, although they all left quickly after. Lot's of money and vet visits later and my puppy is starting to be able to walk again...just a warning to be mindful of the behavior of owners and their dogs. Otherwise, the MAJORITY of people and dogs here are respectful and lovable. We will go back when she is healed but I will not be as passive and trusting when it comes to her safety. read more

Each is a great space for pups to develop socialization skills, find their niche on the dog totem, and run, jump, run 'til exhausted. There is pea gravel, which makes poop easy to pick up, and the transmission of ticks and fleas less worrisome. Strewn about gravel are stone slabs for resting, or just looking regal. There are metal benches positioned under shade trees for the 2 legged mammals where friendly, dog talk abounds. There is a water bubbler for the thirsty dog, and a spigot offering a wide, cool stream if you prefer to fill your own bowl, or wet them down. While there are dozens of parks in and around the city, off leash dog parks are rare. 4 stars because the park is 3 season: fall, winter, and spring. Summer only if you have a hankering for the smell of urine. Otherwise, it's great. read more

One of the best dog parks I've been too....some people hate the rocks but I have to say- being at other dog runs that are sand, grass or dirt all end up being one bid dirt pile anyway (we went to one in Florida where a bath was mandatory after every play session). Peter's Park usually has a great clan of dogs in all shapes and sizes that seem to love the area. The water system is great too-- a cool, running water fountain to drink and another spout to cool the dogs off. Great place to bring your dog and meet some nice people while you're at it. read more

This place scares me. Every time I take Robert G.'s dog here he nearly gets into a fight with another dog. Dagwood is friendly and playful and tries to play with the other dogs. But for some reason the other dogs end up taking it a bit too far and nearly biting his head off. I always have to drag Dagwood away, very muddy/dusty, and escape for dear life. Go here when the park is empty or when you know the other dogs in the park. Otherwise, be careful. read more

peter's park is a great place for dog-on-dog time. my little pup, moose, loves to run around but she doesn't reliably come when called, so she can't be free in open parks. the rocks are a nice alternative to grassy parks that get muddy and hard in bad weather and there's a running fountain (that moose is afraid of...she's not too bright) so you don't have to worry about nasty old water. the only negative in my mind is that owner are not always mindful of their pooches. there is always poop left around and some dogs get aggressive while their owners just chat. but all in all, it's a great space and when there are fun dogs and people it's an awesome way to spend qt with your pup. read more

Love that I found this park! I just moved to the Ink Block residence, and have my german shepherd pup with me- he is very energetic, and I take him for longs walks everyday- but this is perfect space for him to just run free and socialize! read more

This is the best dog park I have ever been too. It's huge, and has lots of places for jumping over and seats for humans to sit. It also has a large "small" dog area as well. I'm so glad we found this place... we'll definitely be going back. There are SO many dogs!!! read more

I really like this dog park. The location is great, I love that there are usually bags if I forget to bring on, and I love that there is a section for smaller dogs. My one complaint is people that bring their unfixed or super rowdy dogs there. Last year my dog got bit by a huge unneutered Doberman that was humping everyone in the park. My dog went over to join (I was quickly behind to stop him) and the Doberman wasn't too happy about it and bit my senior dog. The owner's apologized but honestly, why would you bring your unneutered dog to the park. What do you think is going to happen? They did nothing to stop the dog fron humping others and what if an unspayed female was there. Not fixing your pets is extremely irresponsible in my opinion and it is even more irresponsible to let that pet off leash. So I guess this review should be more for pet owners because it isn't the park's fault that owners do these things. read more

GIven that there are pretty much no other fenced in dog parks in the area, Peters Park is number one in my book. My two small dogs love interacting with their fellow puppy friends here. There is even a small dog section for when my Cocker mix gets a little ahead of himself and needs to calm down after acting out his Napoleon complex. I never have to remember to bring water and rarely have to use any of my own poop bags (which is a plus since they are like a dollar a bag-- anyone else find this to be ridiculous!?) Also, the gravel is great for my Westie since he can't get as dirty as he usually likes to, and on the rare occasion he does, I can just hose him off with the water-- a win-win for everyone! read more

Love this place. This is great for my little city dog. There's always a lot of dogs there and dog owners are usually good about respecting dog park etiquette. I've only had a problem a couple of times with people who don't know how to handle they're dog at a dog park. This is a great facility though. I highly recommend it. read more

Awesome dog run, this is bigger than most of the dog runs I've seen elsewhere in Boston or New York. Sadly, I don't have a dog but I stopped by on the way through the park to watch all the dogs playing around and it was fun seeing all the dogs have a ball here with all the obstacles and the large space. This run also have a smaller section devoted for the small dogs and puppies so they don't get trampled over by the big guys, great idea. read more

Our little 4 month puppy loves this place, but always gets beat up by the other bigger dogs. There is a small dog section, but she likes the rough play. We have a Shiba inu so we don't get to let her off the leash very often and so this place is great for her! Parking is usually available right in front of the park and there's always other activities like little league going on. Lively atmosphere. read more

While it is currently half peagravel half dirt, this is a pretty good sized dog park, undergoing a major renovation. There are people here at all hours of the day and all types of dogs come to play. We go daily and have yet to see the same dog twice. Lots of friendly folks inside the play area, although at night there tends to be a homeless crowd drinking/sitting in the corner of the larger park that houses the dog play area. There are good garbage cans right outside the fenced in area, but bring your own bags for now. read more

While Boston's dog parks are pretty inadequate on the whole, I do enjoy this park more so than the others I've been to. It has plenty of seating, shade, running water for the dogs (drinking fountain, a faucet as well as sprinkler) and some running room (I have an Aussie and he likes to run...a lot...). It's fairly clean and well maintained (you wont find tons of piles of poop left from others). As other reviewers have stated, there is no grass but there is plenty of gravel. So it doesn't get that muddy/messy after rain (like most other parks in the area). I tend to find this park in particular to have the largest diversity of breeds (which allows for many different play styles for those more sensitive dogs). On the whole, the regular dogs/owners there are great. They are nice, will talk with you, show an interest in their dog and yours, etc. Every park will have the owners that are too busy with their phones and pay no attention to what's happening, but I feel this happens much less at this park. Most owners step in when a problem starts up (or if they see a potential of a problem). But at the same time, they let dogs be dogs and allow them to play. I'd tell anyone to check out this park if they are in the city limits, as it has slowly become my go to park and one of my favorites. One downside: if you have to drive, remember to bring quarters. Parking is meter only until 8pm (as well as South End resident permits). The parking attendants do walk the area routinely, so be aware (I have seen at least one attendant every time I've been there during meter hours). $25 tickets for expired meters. read more

Peter's Park is a fabulous neighborhood resource and one my dog and I have gotten tons of use out of. Most of the bases have been covered in the other reviews but I will say my girl loves visiting, especially on sunny weekends. The separation of small and large dogs is so perfect I just wish more small dog owners brought their pups out to play! read more

Great space just for dogs. It have a nice design to it and the dogs look like they have fun whenever they're there. However, theres a tennis court across of this place. This will now be a regular weekly spot for my dog to socialize! After recently adopting my dog and looking for a dog park that was leash free, and safe, meaning fenced in, and with good reviews, I decided to check out this place. Loved it and so did my Boggs!. The dog run/park is extremely large and clean. I know that some pet owners mentioned not liking the stone filled area (non grassy), but this is perfect for my dog and much easier to keep clean in my opinion. I will say I was a little surprised that people were bringing their young children (infants) into the dog park and yet seemed hesitant around some of the friendly dogs, mine included. Probably not the best idea for parents who are skiddish of others dogs to bring children here. My dog is not used to being leash free and is still getting use to me, so I loved the extra safety measure of the extended fenced/locked area outside of both of the entrances/exits so that when people are coming and going, if my dog is to bolt he has no chance of getting out into the road. I found the dog owners on this particular Sunday to be friendly and good about cleaning up after their dogs. This is a great way to get your dog socialized in a safe and contained area!!! Although I didn't have difficulty finding parking on this Sunday morning, most of the parking in the area is South End resident parking (M-Sunday) only so it could be difficult finding parking on a more busy weekday/weekend. This is the only reason I didn't give it 4 stars. PS-They have dog bags for cleaning up doggie messes as well as clean water available for the dogs at all times! read more

I really like this park. it's very clean for a DP. It's fairly large for a city park and has an area for the small dogs and puppies away from the large dogs. Not sure how I feel about the stones, but grass certainly would NOT work and would turn into a giant mud bog. It's a little hard to throw a tennis ball if you have a ball chaser. Over all the people are nice and keep to themselves and they mostly seem to watch their dogs too. read more

My husband and I decided to check out Peter's Park on a recent trip to Boston, and we were very impressed. One of our smaller, submissive dogs was mounted and drooled on by a large pitbull/bulldog mix puppy, but the owner very quickly pulled his dog off, apologized and leashed his dog for the remainder of our stay. Owners seem very responsible, and the dogs were friendly. I could see us coming here daily if we lived in the city. So glad the city dogs have a fun park to run around and enjoy. read more
